It has been found that the large velocity pulse is one of the most important characteristics of near-fault strong ground motions. Some statistical relationships between pulse period and the moment magnitude for near-fault strong ground motions have been established by Somerville (1998); Alavi and Krawinkler (2000); and Mavroeidis and Papageorgiou (2003), where no variety of rupture velocity, fault depth, and fault distance, etc. were considered. Since near-fault ground motions are significantly influenced by the rupture process and source parameters, the effects of some source parameters on the amplitude and the period ofa forward-directivity velocity pulse in a half space are analyzed by the finite difference method combined with the kinematic source model in this paper. The study shows that the rupture velocity, fault depth, position of the initial rupture point and distribution of asperities are the most important parameters to the velocity pulse. Generally, the pulse period decreases and the pulse amplitude increases as the rupture velocity increases for shallow crustal earthquakes. In a definite region besides the fault trace, the pulse period increases as the fault depth increases. For a uniform strike slip fault, rupture initiating from one end of a fault and propagating to the other always generates a higher pulse amplitude and longer pulse period than in other cases. 展开更多

Identification of nuclear pulse signal is of importance in radioactive measurements,especially in recognizing adjacent overlapping nuclear pulses.In this article,we propose an estimation method for parameters of typical overlapping nuclear pulse signals.First,the nuclear pulses are regarded as individual genes and the norm is set as the fitness function.Second,the global optimal solution is found by searching the population of genetic algorithm,so as to estimate the parameters of nuclear pulse.With high precision,this method can identify parameters of overlapping nuclear pulses in the Sallen-Key Gaussian signal decomposition experiments.This pulse recognition method is of great significance to improve the precision of radioactive measurement and is suitable for serious overlap of nuclear pluses. 展开更多

In this research, pulverization plate and base of a fuel injector in an automobile electronic-controlled engine was joined by pulsed laser welding. The different welding parameters were evaluated and effect of process parameters on joint characteristics was analyzed. The optimal process parameters were obtained as follows: welding current 120 A, welding speed 600 ram/rain, pulse duration 1.80 ms and pulse frequency 60 Hz. The microstructure of weld metal was investigated. Results show that the fusion zone is austenitic dendrite, the weld center is equiaxed grain, while the transition zone between fusion zone and weld center is mixed crystal with austenitic dendrite and equiaxed grain. The weld layered phenomenon was observed, and eddy caused by keyhole effect is the main reason for the formation of layered structure in molten pool. 展开更多

Pulsed dielectric barrier discharge is a promising technology for ozone generation and is drawing increasing interest. To overcome the drawback of experimental investigation, a kinetic model is applied to numerically investigate the effect of gas parameters including inlet gas temperature, gas pressure, and gas flow rate on ozone generation using pulsed dielectric barrier discharge. The results show that ozone concentration and ozone yield increase with decreasing inlet gas temperature, gas pressure, and gas flow rate. The highest ozone concentration and ozone yield in oxygen are about 1.8 and 2.5 times higher than those in air, respectively. A very interesting phenomenon is observed: the peak ozone yield occurs at a lower ozone concentration when the inlet gas temperature and gas pressure are higher because of the increasing average gas temperature in the discharge gap as well as the decreasing reduced electric field and electron density in the microdischarge channel. Furthermore, the sensitivity and rate of production analysis based on the specific input energy (SIE) for the four most important species 03, O, O(1D), and O2(b1∑) are executed to quantitatively understand the effects of every reaction on them, and to determine the contribution of individual reactions to their net production or destruction rates. A reasonable increase in SIE is beneficial to ozone generation. However, excessively high S1E is not favorable for ozone production. 展开更多

To evaluate the effect of pulse parameters on the formation of electrodeposits in concrete cracks, five different types of pulse current were set up, and ZnSO_4 and MgSO_4 solutions were used as the electrolytes. The rate of weight gain, rate of surface coating, rate of crack closure and crack filling depth were measured. Scanning electron microscopy was used to assess the morphology of the electrodeposits, and energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to analyze the mineral composition of the electrodeposits in the cracks. The experimental results demonstrate that, among five different pulse parameters, when T_(on)/T_(off)=0.8 ms/0.8 ms, the healing effect of electro-deposition is the best. The pulse mode hardly affects the mineral composition of the electrodeposits but changes the micromorphology. In addition, for both ZnSO_4 and MgSO_4 solutions, when T_(on)/T_(off)=0.8 ms/0.8 ms, the crystal structure of the electrodeposits is the most uniform and the densest. 展开更多

By comparing the numerical analyses with the experiments, a proper numerical model was obtained. From the results of the numerical analyses and the experiments, the effects of process parameters on entrance diameters of drilled holes, shapes of the holes, taper angles of the holes and temperature distributions in the vicinity of the holes were examined quantitatively. In the present work,pulsed gas–liquid hybrid discharge plasma coupled with graphene/Cd S catalyst was evaluated to eliminate bisphenol A(BPA)in wastewater.The optimization of a series of process parameters was performed in terms of BPA degradation performance.The experimental results demonstrated that nearly 90%of BPA(20 mg l^(-1))in the synthetic wastewater(p H=7.5,σ=10μS m^(-1))was degraded by the plasma catalytic system over 0.2 g l^(-1)graphene/Cd S at 19k V with a 4 l min^(-1)air flow rate and 10 mm electrode gap within 60 min.The BPA removal rate increased with increasing the discharge voltage and decreasing the initial BPA concentration or solution conductivity.Nevertheless,either too high or too low an air flow rate,electrode gap,catalyst dosage or initial solution p H would lead to a decrease in BPA degradation.Moreover,optical emission spectroscopy was used to gain information on short-lived reactive species formed from the pulsed gas–liquid hybrid discharge plasma system.The results indicated the existence of several highly oxidative free radicals such as·O and·OH.Finally,the activation pathway of O_(3)on the catalyst surface was analyzed by density functional theory. 展开更多

To achieve this, it is necessary to know thedetailed characteristics of APWs in different states of an organism, which would allowAPW parameters (APW- Ps) to be assigned to particular (patho)physiological conditions.Therefore, our work aimed to characterize 35 APW- Ps in rats under the influence ofisoflurane (ISO) and Zoletil/xylazine (ZO/XY) anesthesia and to study the effect of rootextract from Acanthopanax senticosus (ASRE) in these anesthetic conditions.Methods : The right jugular vein of anesthetized rats was cannulated for the administrationof ASRE and the left carotid artery for the detection of APWs from which 35APW- Ps were evaluated.Results : We obtained data on 35 APW- Ps, which significantly depended on the anesthesia,and thus, they characterized the cardiovascular system under these two conditions.ASRE transiently modulated all 35 APW- Ps, including a transient decrease insystolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) and heart rate or increases in pulse BP, d P /d t max , and systolic and diastolic areas. Whereas the transient effects of ASRE weresimilar, the extract had prolonged disturbing effects on the cardiovascular system inrats under ZO/XY but not under ISO anesthesia. This negative effect can result fromthe disturbance caused by ZO/XY anesthesia on the cardiovascular system.Conclusions : We characterized 35 APW- Ps of rats under ISO and ZO/XY anesthesiaand found that ASRE contains compounds that can modulate the properties of thecardiovascular system, which significantly depended on the status of the cardiovascularsystem. In a pulsed vacuum discharge,the ejection performance of a metal plasma jet can be effectively improved by preventing charged particles from moving to the anode.In this paper,the effects of resistance and capacitance on the anode side on the discharge characteristics and the generation characteristics of plasma jet are investigated.Results show that the existence of a resistor on the anode side can increase the anode potential,thereby preventing charged particles from entering the anode and promoting the ejection of charged particles along the axis of the insulating sleeve nozzle.The application of a capacitor on the anode side can not only absorb electrons at the initial stage of discharge,increasing the peak value of the cathode hump potential,but also prevent charged particles from moving to the anode,thereby improving the ejection performance of the plasma jet.In addition,the use of a larger resistance and a smaller capacitance can improve the blocking effect on charged particles and further improve the ejection performance of the plasma jet.Results of this study will provide a reference for the improvement of the ejection performance of plasma jets and their applications. 展开更多

As the size of satellites scales down, low-power and compact propulsion systems such as the pulsed plasma thruster(PPT) are needed for stabilizing these miniature satellites in orbit. Most PPT systems are operated at 2 J or more of discharge energy. In this work, the performance of a PPT with a side-fed, tongue-flared electrode configuration operated within a lower discharge energy range of 0.5-2.5 J has been investigated. Ablation and charring of the polytetrafluoroethylene propellant surface were analyzed through field-effect scanning electron microscopy imaging and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. When the discharge energy fell below 2 J, inconsistencies occurred in the specific impulse and the thrust efficiency due to the measurement of the low mass bit. At energy ≥2 J, the performance parameters are compared with other PPT systems of similar configuration and discussed in depth. 展开更多

Photodetachment of H- irradiated by linearly polarized few-cycle laser field is investigated by time-dependent SchrSdinger equation numerically. The photo-electron left-right asymmetry parameter as a function of carrier-envelop (CE) phase of few-cycle pulses is attained. We confirm the asymmetry of photoelectron distribution in H- photodetachment and find that the maximal asymmetry parameter of H- is equal to that of H atom under the same conditions but the corresponding CE phases are quite different. Thus a CE phase shift appears. Compared to that of H atom and field free electron, the zero asymmetry CE phase shift is sensitively affected by Coulomb field. The Coulomb effect on the asymmetry of H- photodetachment mainly behaves in the CE phase shift of H- instead of the amplitude of asymmetry parameter curve. 展开更多

From the plots of (α- η)/N, we have derived the limiting field strength, (E/N)nm, which is valid for the analysis of insulation characteristics and applications to power equipment. This article proposed a new methodology and the principle of sinusoid modulated pulse MIG welding, and systematically established the universal mathematical model of computation of the parameters of the sinusoid modulation pulse, achieving that the welding energy input can be effectively controlled and precisely regulated, the transition of pulse change is smooth and the welding process is stable and reliable. With the characteristics of sinusoidal waveform, such as infinite derivative continuity, eternal periodicity and limited control parameters, this article established the theoretical foundation for choiceness, unification and optimization of the parameters during the new sinusoid modulated pulse MIG welding. Bead-on-plate overlay welding is carried out on the pure aluminum sheet test sample for the test. The result indicated that during the welding process, the real-time current waveform is stable and clear; both the corresponding voltage and the instant welding energy waveform are very stable; the repeatability of the U-I graph plotted is high; its family of lines is clear, neat, and its distribution is concentrated showing that the welding process is stable and the neat and high quality ripple weld seam may be produced. 展开更多

Offshore drilling has attracted more attention than ever before due to the increasing worldwide energy demand especially in China. High cost, long drilling cycles, and low rate of penetration (ROP) represent critical challenges for offshore drilling operations. The hydraulic pulse generator was specifically designed, based on China offshore drilling technologies and parameters, to overcome problems encountered during offshore drilling. Both laboratory and field tests were conducted to collect the characteristics of the hydraulic pulse generator. The relationships between flow rate and pressure amplitude, pressure loss and pulse frequency were obtained, which can be used to optimize operation parameters for hydraulic pulse jet drilling. Meanwhile a bottom hole assembly (BHA) for pulse jet drilling has been designed, combining the hydraulic pulse generator with the conventional BHA, positive displacement motor, and rotary steerable system (RSS) etc. Furthermore, the hydraulic pulse jet technique has been successfully applied in more than 10 offshore wells in China. The depth of the applied wells ranged from 2,000 m to 4,100 m with drilling bit diameters of 311 mm and 216 mm. The field application results showed that hydraulic pulse jet technique was feasible for various bit types and formations, and that ROP could be significantly increased, by more than 25%. 展开更多

The regulation of memory effect that the residual charges generated during and after discharge act on the initiation and development of subsequent discharge is explored by adjusting the pulse parameters,which have an influence on the discharge characteristics.The memory effect is quantified by the measurement of‘wall voltage’through a series of reference capacitors.The influences of memory effect on the discharge properties corresponding to rising/falling time50–500 ns,pulse width 0.5–1.5μs,and frequency 200–600 Hz are analyzed.It is found that the‘wall voltage’increases from 1.4 kV to 2.4 kV with rising/falling time from 50 ns to 500 ns,it varies in the range of 0.18 kV with frequency of 200–600 Hz,and 0.17 k V with pulse width of 0.5–1.5μs.The propagation velocity of wavelike ionization under the negative pulse slows down from 2184 km s-1to 1026 km s-1 as the rising/falling time increases from 50 ns to 500 ns due to the weakening of the electric field by the surface memory effect.More intense and uniform emission can be achieved through faster rising/falling time and higher frequency based on the volume memory effect,while pulse width has less influence on the emission uniformity.Furthermore,similar laws are obtained for spectral and discharge intensity.Therefore,the memory effect is most effectively regulated by rising/falling time,and the discharge properties are affected by the surface and volume memory effect. 展开更多

A sub-nanosecond pulse discharge tube is a gas discharge tube which can generate a rapid high-voltage pulse of kilo-volts in amplitude and sub-nanoseconds in width. In this paper, the sub-nanosecond pulse discharge tube and its working principles are described. Because of the phenomenon that the deformation process of the mercury film on the electrode surface lags behind the charging process, the mercury film deformation process affects the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube directly. The deformation of the mercury film is observed microscopically, and the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube is messured using an oscillograph. The results show that all the parameters in the charging process, such as charging resistance, charging capacitance and DC power supply, affect the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube. Based on these studies, the output pulse amplitude can be controlled continuously and individually by adjusting the power supply voltage. When the DC power supply is adjusted from 7 kV to 10 kV, the dynamic breakdown voltage ranges from 6.5 kV to 10 kV. According to our research, a kind of sub-nanosecond pulse generator is made, with a pulse width ranging from 0.5 ns to 2.5 ns, a rise time from 0.32 ns to 0.58 ns, and a pulse amplitude that is adjustable from 1.5 kV to 5 kV. 展开更多

A dielectric barrier discharge(DBD) reactor is introduced to generate H2O2 by non-thermal plasma with a mixture of oxygen and water mist produced by an ultrasonic atomizer.The results of our experiment show that the energy yield and concentration of the generated H2O2 in the pulsed discharge are much higher than that in AC discharge,due to its high energy efficiency and low heating effect.Micron-sized liquid droplets produced by an ultrasonic atomizer in water mist have large specific surface area,which greatly reduces mass transfer resistance between hydroxyl radicals and water liquids,leading to higher energy yield and H2O2 concentration than in our previous research.The influence of applied voltage,discharge frequency,and environmental temperature on the generated H2O2 is discussed in detail from the viewpoint of the DBD mechanism.The H2O2 concentration of 30 mg l^-1,with the energy yield of 2 gkW^-1h^-1 is obtained by pulsed discharge in our research. 展开更多

Physical qualities of dusty plasma in the pulsed radio-frequency C_2H_2/Ar microdischarges are carefully investigated by a one-dimensional hydrodynamic model and aerosol dynamics model.Since the thermophoretic force has a great effect on the nanoparticle density spatial distribution,the neutral gas energy equation is taken into accounted.The effects of pulse parameters(dust ratio,modulation frequency) on the nanoparticle formation and growth process are mainly discussed.The calculation results show that,as the duty ratio increases,the mode transition from the sheath oscillation(a regime) to the secondary electron heating(7 regime) occurred,which is quite different from the conventional pulsed discharge.Moreover,the effect of modulation frequency on the width of sheath and plasma density is analyzed.Compared with the H_2CC^-ions,the modulation frequency effect on the nanoparticles density becomes more prominent. 展开更多
