BACKGROUND Evaluating the psychological resilience of lung cancer(LC)patients helps understand their mental state and guides future treatment. However, there is limited research on the psychological resilience of LC patients with bone me-tastases.AIM To explore the psychological resilience of LC patients with bone metastases and identify factors that may influence psychological resilience.METHODS LC patients with bone metastases who met the inclusion criteria were screened from those admitted to the Third Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. The psychological scores of the enrolled patients were collected. They were then grouped based on the mean psychological score:Those with scores lower than the mean value were placed in the low-score group and those with scores equal to or greater than the mean value was placed in the high-score group. The baseline data(age, gender, education level, marital status, residence, monthly income, and religious beliefs),along with self-efficacy and medical coping mode scores, were compared.RESULTS This study included 142 LC patients with bone metastases admitted to our hospital from June 2022 to December 2023,with an average psychological resilience score of 63.24±9.96 points. After grouping, the low-score group consisted of 69 patients, including 42 males and 27 females, with an average age of 67.38±9.55 years. The high-score group consisted of 73 patients, including 49 males and 24 females, with a mean age of 61.97±5.00 years.χ2 analysis revealed significant differences between the two groups in education level(χ2=6.604,P=0.037),residence(χ2=12.950,P=0.002),monthly income(χ2=9.375,P=0.009),and medical coping modes(χ2=19.150,P=0.000).Independent sample t-test showed that the high-score group had significantly higher self-efficacy scores(t=3.383,P=0.001)and lower age than the low-score group(t=4.256,P<0.001).Furthermore,multivariate logistic regression hazard analysis confirmed that self-efficacy is an independent protective factor for psychological resilience[odds ratio(OR)=0.926,P=0.035,95%confidence interval(CI):0.862-0.995],while age(OR=1.099,P=0.003,95%CI:1.034-1.169)and medical coping modes(avoidance vs confrontation:OR=3.767,P=0.012,95%CI:1.342-10.570;resignation vs confrontation:OR=5.687,P=0.001,95%CI:1.974-16.385)were identified as independent risk factors.A predictive model based on self-efficacy,age,and medical coping modes was developed. The receiver operating characteristic analysis showed an area under the curve value of 0.778(95%CI:0.701-0.856,P<0.001),indicating that the model has good predictive performance.CONCLUSION LC patients with bone metastases are less psychologically resilient than the general population.Factors such as self-efficacy,age,and medical coping modes influence their psychological resilience.Patients with low self-efficacy,old age,and avoidance/resignation coping modes should be closely observed. 展开更多

Background:Emerging adulthood is a pivotal life stage, presenting significant psychological and social changes, such as decreased sociability, depression, and other mental health problems.Previous studies have associated these changes with an unhealthy lifestyle. The 24-h movement guidelines for healthy lifestyles have been developed to promote appropriate health behaviors and improve individual wellness. However, the relationship between adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines and different characteristics of Chinese emerging adults is yet to be explored. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the association between adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines and four characteristics(self-exploration,instability,possibilities,and responsibility)of Chinese emerging adults.Methods:Overall,1,510 Chinese emerging adults aged 18–29 years were included in this study. Each participant completed a self-administered questionnaire that included questions on adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines(physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep)and the inventory of dimensions of emerging adulthood.Multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to investigate the associations between adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines and each of the four characteristics. Results:The proportion of participants who adhered to the 24-h movement guidelines was 31.72%.Multiple regression analysis revealed a significantly negative relationship between adhering to more guidelines and instability(β=−0.51,p<0.001).A statistically significant association was observed between instability and meeting only sedentary behavior(β=−1.27,95%confidence interval[CI]:[−2.32,−0.24],p=0.02),sedentary behavior+sleep(β=−1.30,95%CI:[−2.24,−0.35],p<0.01),and physical activity+sedentary behavior(β=−1.08,95%CI:[1.94,−0.21],p=0.02)guidelines.Further,positive and significant associations were observed between possibilities and meeting the guidelines for only physical activity(β=0.70,95%CI:[0.14,1.27),p=0.01),only sleep(β=0.61,95%CI:[0.01,1.21],p=0.04),physical activity+sedentary behavior(β=0.56,95%CI:[0.04,1.07),p=0.01),and physical activity+sleep(β=0.76,95%CI:[0.23,1.27],p=0.01).Conclusions:These findings suggest that adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines was associated with instability in Chinese emerging adults.Future studies are warranted to verify our findings to highlight the importance of maintaining a heath lifestyle to promote health in emerging adulthood. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate the relationship between benign essential blepharospasm(BEB)symptoms and depression/anxiety/sleep disorder in a prospective manner and to determine whether treatment the BEB with botulinum toxin type A(BoNT/A)can impact psychological symptoms.METHODS:This prospective interventional case series recruited 61 adults with evidence of BEB.Patients were administered the Jankovic Rating Scale(JRS),the Blepharospasm Disability Index(BSDI),Personal Health Questionnaire Depression Scale(PHQ-8),Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale(GAD-7)and the Athens insomnia scale(AIS)to evaluate the severity of BEB symptoms, depression, anxiety and sleep disorder before and 1wk,1,3mo after the BoNTA treatment.Statistical analysis was performed to assess the relationships between changes in the survey scores.RESULTS:The mean score for JRS,BSDI,PHQ-8,and GAD-7 improved significantly(P<0.0001),respectively,compared to the initial visit at follow-up.At baseline, worse BSDI scores were correlated with worse GAD-7 and PHQ-8,but not with worse AIS.At 1mo follow-up visit, there was no correlation between change in BSDI and PHQ-8/AIS,the change in GAD-7 showed a mild association with change in BSDI.The change in BSDI was correlated with the change in both PHQ-8 and GAD-7 in the subgroup of patients without a prior diagnosis of depression or anxiety.Patient satisfaction with BoNT/A treatment reached the highest at 1mo of follow-up(83.6%,51/61).CONCLUSION:BEB may lead to psychological diseases.BoNT/A can significantly improve motor and non-motor symptoms of BEB,which emphasize the effectiveness of BoNT/A and therefore pave the way for its use in the field of psychiatry. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings and understand the underlying mechanisms. 展开更多

Introduction: Psychological distress can affect every worker’s mental health or working ability, and specifically the healthcare workers. It is essential to prevent and treat it in order to anticipate predictable consequences. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of psychological distress among the healthcare workers in the city of Douala. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out during the 1st semester of 2023 in two reference hospitals of the city of Douala. All volunteer staff from the targeted hospitals were involved. We collected data using a mixed questionnaire that included the working conditions, as of the socioprofessional and psychological characteristics of the healthcare workers. We measured the level of psychological distress using the Kessler scale. Analysis was performed using the Chi-2 test and multivariate analysis. Threshold value was & = 5%, p Results: The participation rate was 86.3%. Women (81.7%) and nurses (77.6%) predominated in the sample. The mean age was 35.38 ± 8.9 years, and individuals in their thirties accounted for 46.79% of the sample. The prevalence of psychological distress was 19.5%. The psychological distress was categorized as mild (48.72%), moderate (18.46%) or severe (32.82%). Risk factors for psychological distress included being of the catholic faith (OR = 3.6, p = 0.04), poor sleep quality (OR = 3.9, p = 0.001) and long working hours (OR = 2.2, p = 0.002). Overtime was the only protective factor identified (OR = 0.6, p = 0.04). Conclusion: Nearly 1 out of 5 healthcare workers suffered from psychological distress exacerbated by poor working and living conditions. There is an urgent need to improve their working conditions to prevent the development of more severe consequences. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Psychological intervention nursing(PIN)has been considered to have a curative effect on cesarean section(CS)post-operative recovery. However, the therapeutic mechanisms remain obscure.AIM To explore the effects of PIN combined with acupressure massage on CS postoperative recovery.METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 150 pregnant women admitted to an obstetrics department between January 2020 and January 2023.The control group(CG)received acupressure therapy(n=73),and the intervention group(IG)received acupressure therapy and PIN therapy(n=77).Postoperative recovery time was assessed by anal-exhausting,defecation,bed activity, breastfeeding, and hospital stay times.Adverse effects, including infection, bleeding, limb numbness, intrauterine hematoma, urinary retention, and venous thromboembolism, were recorded.the pain visual analogue scale(VAS)was used to evaluate the degree of pain.Anxiety and depression status were qualitatively assessed using the selfrating anxiety scale(SAS),self-rating depression scale(SDS),and Edinburgh postpartum depression scale(EPDS).The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)was used to compare sleep quality between the groups.RESULTS The baseline data and SAS,SDS,EPDS,and PSQI scores did not significantly differ before CS(P>0.05)and neither did complication rates between the two groups after CS(P>0.05).However,anal-exhausting,defecation,waking up,breastfeeding, and hospitalization times were significantly shorter for participants in the IG than those for participants in the CG(P<0.05).The VAS,SAS,SDS,EPDS,and PSQI scores of the IG were significantly lower than those of the CG(P<0.05).CONCLUSION PIN,combined with acupressure massage, effectively promotes maternal recovery, reduces post-CS pain, and improves post-operative negative emotions and sleeping quality. 展开更多

The severity of the current global mental health situation and the importance of maintaining psychological well-being call for more powerful, convenient, and efficient solutions for addressing psychological issues and relieving mental stress.Physical activity not only effectively improves physical fitness and reduces negative emotions such as anxiety and depression but also increases the improvement of psychological health and sense of well-being.At the same time, physical activity interventions for mental health have unique advantages, including reducing the side effects of psychological interventions and increasing necessity, convenience, and cost-effectiveness,as well as flexible adaptability across multiple methods, groups, and age ranges, providing stronger support for relieving psychological stress and addressing psychological issues.Although physical activity is an important intervention measure in relieving psychological stress, its value and role in mental health care seem to have not yet received sufficient attention, and its potential remains to be further revealed.Given the significant advantages and effectiveness of physical activity in mental health intervention practices,it is necessary to stimulate its potential in relieving psychological stress through various means in future studies to better safeguard the public’s physical and mental health.Developing guidelines for physical activity for improved mental health, enhancing organic integration with other intervention measures, and providing necessary respect, encouragement, and support are important directions to consider. 展开更多

Background:With the rapid aging of China’s population and the increasing prevalence of comorbidities in the elderly, psychological crises have become more common. This study aims to investigate the present status of psychological vulnerability, aging attitudes, and life meaning in elderly patients with comorbidities. Methods:A total of 685 elderly inpatients and outpatients at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between July and December 2022 were selected using the simple random sampling method.Social demographic data were collected, and the Attitudes to aging Questionnaire(AAQ),the Chinese Life Meaning Questionnaire(C-MLQ),and the Psychological Vulnerability Scale(C-PVS)were used for the analysis.A total of 685 questionnaires were received, and 602 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective rate of 87.88%.Data analysis was performed using SPSS V25.0 and AMOS V24.0.Results:The total scores of psychological vulnerability, aging attitudes, and life meaning were 69.4±12.8,80.2±13.5 and 39.2±8.3,respectively.The psychological vulnerability was significantly negatively correlated with life meaning and aging attitudes(r=-0.351,-0.264;p<0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between aging attitudes and life meaning(r=0.515;p<0.01).Life meaning played a partial mediating role between psychological vulnerability and aging attitudes(β=3.070,p<0.05).Conclusion:This study found that the psychological vulnerability in elderly patients with comorbidities was at the lower level, which was related to the elderly patients’aging attitudes and their current status of life meaning. The level of psychological vulnerability in elderly patients with senile-related comorbidities needs to be further improved.Medical workers should pay attention to the psychological vulnerability of elderly patients and improve the identification of psychological crises of such patients. 展开更多

Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition that affects approximately 1%of the worldwide community.Originally thought to be confined mostly to the small intestine, resulting in villous atrophy and nutrient malabsorption,it has more recently been implicated in systemic manifestations as well, particularly when undiagnosed or left untreated.Herein, the physical and psychological symptoms of celiac disease are described and explored. An emphasis is placed on efforts to query prospective and confirmed celiac disease patients via the use of surveys.Suggestions are made regarding the development of efficacious surveys for the purpose of screening for celiac disease in undiagnosed persons, and monitoring efficacy of the gluten-free diet in persons diagnosed with celiac disease. There are broad categories of physical and psychological symptoms associated with celiac disease. There is also an essential interaction between such physical and the psychological symptoms. It is important to capture the association between symptoms, via queries directed toward suspected and confirmed persons with celiac disease. The use of anonymous online surveys can be helpful to determine the qualities and characteristics which may be associated with this condition. It is suggested that personal surveys should be given a greater role in screening and to lessen the time for diagnosis.Querying the subject directly via a survey can provide clues as to the types of symptoms being experienced by those with celiac disease currently,as well as to determine the salient aspects of the symptomatology, which will be useful for rapid screening and monitoring in future work. 展开更多
