Analysis of the Current Situation and Influencing Factors of Psychological Well-Being of Elderly People in the Community

Objective:To investigate the current psychological well-being of older people in the community and analyze its influencing factors.Methods:A total of 265 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 and above in Baoding City,Hebei Province,were selected through convenience sampling from November 2023 to March 2024.They were surveyed using a general information questionnaire and a comprehensive well-being questionnaire,with results analyzed statistically using SPSS 27.0.Results:Six dimensions of the psychological well-being scale for community older adults were identified:life vitality(P50=4.83),health concern(P50=4.6),self-worth(P50=5.6),friendly relationships(P50=5.33),altruistic behavior(P50=5.2),personality growth(P50=4.67),and comprehensive well-being(P50=161).Multivariate regression analysis showed that social isolation(β=-0.021,P<0.001),type of work(β=-0.142,P<0.001),chronic disease history(β=0.004,P<0.001),need for mobility aid(β=0.192,P<0.001),and monthly income(β=0.381,P<0.001)were factors influencing psychological well-being.Conclusion:The psychological well-being of the elderly is slightly above moderate and requires improvement.Enhancing factors such as reducing social isolation,addressing chronic disease history,and improving financial support could improve psychological well-being in older adults.

The Relationship Between Social Isolation and Psychological Well-Being Among Older Adults in the Community

Objective:To investigate the psychological well-being of the elderly in Baoding City,Hebei Province,and analyze its influencing factors,with a focus on exploring the relationship between social isolation and psychological well-being.This study aims to provide a reference for effective interventions that promote the physical and mental health of elderly individuals in the community.Methods:A total of 265 elderly individuals from six communities in Baoding City,Hebei Province were surveyed between November 2023 and March 2024 using the general information questionnaire,the Social Isolation Scale for the Elderly,and the Comprehensive Happiness Questionnaire.Results:The total score of the Social Isolation Scale for the elderly in the community was(14.15±3.73)points,indicating a moderate level of social isolation.The average score of P50 on the Psychological Well-being Scale was 4.88,suggesting that the psychological well-being of the elderly in the community was moderate to high.Multivariate regression analysis showed that the level of social isolation significantly influenced the psychological well-being of the elderly(P<0.05),with social isolation negatively correlated with psychological well-being.Conclusion:Healthcare professionals should pay attention to the social isolation of elderly individuals in the community and develop targeted interventions to improve their psychological well-being and quality of life.

The Relationship Between Mothers’Psychological Well-Beingand Their Attitudes Towards Their Children

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of mothers’psychological well-being on their parental attitudes towards their children.The study was conducted using the general survey model.The study sample consists of 140(N=140)mothers aged between 20 and 41 and above whose children attended preschool education institutions affiliated to Konya Provincial Directorate of National Education.In the study,personal information form was used to determine the mothers’demographic features;Psychological Well-Being Scale was used to measure the mothers’psychological well-being and Family Life and Child Rearing Attitude Scale(Parental Attitude Research Instrument-PARI)was used to determine their attitudes towards their children.The data obtained from the study were analyzed using the AMOS 16 program according to“Structural Equation Modeling”in order to reveal the predictive relationships between psychological well-being and sub-dimensions of the family life and child-rearing attitude scale.The data obtained as a result of the study were discussed in the light of relevant literature.

Exploring the Impact of Crisis and Trauma on the Mental Health and Psychological Well-Being of University Students in Northern Haiti

In recent decades,Haiti has been subject to man-made and natural disasters that have left its citizens vulnerable to a range of shocks.With a weak state unable to protect its populace,Haitians are exposed to some of the highest levels of poverty and violence in the Western Hemisphere.In recent years,Haitians have experienced two crises that this study analyzes:the instability and political violence of“peyi lòk”as well as the global pandemic of COVID-19.This community-based assessment explores the impact of these two crises on the mental health and psychological well-being of 38 Haitian university students in the understudied northern part of the country.Results indicate that both crises had similarities related to their psychological effects on young people,most notably in terms of traumatic experiences related to threats or violence,forced confinement,and large increases in population-wide uncertainty.Additionally,the extreme violence of“peyi lòk”and the widespread unpredictability of COVID-19 and its effects in the early days of the pandemic resulted in high levels of stress and fear.Both crises also resulted in extreme economic hardship for students,with many reporting difficulties accessing basic needs such as food and water.This study highlights how converging population-level crises in“complex emergencies”can heighten trauma and compromise mental health.

Voice More and Be Happier: How Employee Voice Influences Psychological Well-Being in the Workplace

The recently recognized core construct of employee voice has been demonstrated to be related to various out-comes.However,to date,the impact of employee voice over time and on important employee well-being has been rarely tested.In the present research,we studied in particular how employee voice behavior is related to psycho-logical well-being.Employing the theory of self-determination,we developed three hypotheses pertinent to this relationship,including the mediating role of authentic self-expression and the moderating role of collectivist orientation.We tested our hypotheses using data from 217 employees in China' Mainland over two time periods.As we hypothesized,we found positive relationships between the employee voice and psychological well-being.Our results also verified that these relationships are fully mediated by authentic self-expression and partially moderated by collectivist orientation.

Psychological Well-Being of Adolescents in South Western Nigeria: Its Association with Sociodemographic Characteristics and Perceived Food Insecurity

Psychological well-being (PWB) which is a measure of life satisfaction in adolescence plays a great role in their behavioral lifestyle. The aim of this study was to assess the adolescents’ psychological well-being, its association with perceived food insecurity, and their sociodemographic characteristics. Using multistage random sampling, 352 students from three secondary schools in Ado Local Government in Nigeria were recruited. A self-administered questionnaire adapted from existing literature was used for data collection. About fifty-six percent of the adolescents had high psychological well-being. Most of the students studied had a high estimate of themselves in their self-autonomy and personal growth development. While Tribe (p = 0.032), type of family (p < 0.001), present class (p = 0.039) and class repetition (p = 0.018) were significantly associated with psychological well-being of adolescents, most adolescents had a medium to high food insecurity. Self-autonomy and personal growth development in adolescents are associated with the type of family structure, the higher the social class of the family and the lower of the occurrence of repetition of a class shall be. A stable family environment is beneficial to adolescents.

Comparison of Caregivers of Schizophrenia and Chronic Renal Failure Patients in Terms of Family Burden, Social Support and Psychological Well-Being

Objective: Schizophrenia is a lifelong chronic psychiatric disorder with a relatively early onset. Renal failure, a chronic physical disorder has also negative effects on the families and causes a serious burden in a similar manner. It is aimed in this study to investigate to what extent the burden, social support and psychological wellbeing among the caregivers of schizophrenic patients compare to those of the caregivers of chronic renal failure patients. Methods: Relatives of patients with schizophrenia and chronic renal failure were included in the study. Each group consisted of 30 volunteers. The volunteers completed demographical information questionnaire, Burden Interview Scale (BIS), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and General Health Questionnaire (GSA). Results: A dominance of female caregivers was found in the study. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of burden. Among the caregivers of chronic renal failure was a positive correlation both between age and burden and education and social support respectively. It was found out that relatives of chronic renal failure got less social support and reported a poorer psychological wellbeing when compared to the relatives of schizophrenic patients. A negative correlation was found between social support and burden in both of the study groups. Conclusion: The results of this study underline the importance of social support in alleviating the burden of the caregivers of chronic patients. The monitarisation of the psychological states of caregivers of both the schizophrenic and renal failure patients has to be taken into consideration.

How Do Family Structure and Family Process Matter?A Comparative Study on the Impacts of Military Deployment and Single Parenthood on Children’s Psychological Well-Being

Children from two-parent families have better outcomes,on average,than children from single-parent families.Yet the mechanisms associated with family structure and family process that produce divergent outcomes are less well understood.Based on data from the 2011-2015 National Health Interview Survey(N=26,783),I leverage the case of military families with deployment and examine the impacts of parenting quality,economic capital,and social capital on children’s psychological well-being.The regression results show that single parenthood produced by divorce,separation,and birth out of wedlock leads to worse child outcomes than single parenthood produced by military deployment,and family process partially explains the variation in children’s well-being beyond family structure.Married families,military or civilian,deployed or not,enjoy advantages that translate into positive child outcomes.Marriage,therefore,emerges as the primary axis of inequality,and maintaining a healthy marriage better promotes children’s well-being.

Effect of Resistance Training,Aerobic Exercise Before Doula-Assisted Delivery on the Psychological Well-Being and Labor Duration of Parturients

Objective:To investigate the impact of resistance training and aerobic exercise before doula-assisted delivery on the psychological well-being and labor duration of parturients.Methods:105 cases of parturients who gave birth in our hospital from February 2021 to April 2023 were included in this study.The patients were divided into a control group of 52 cases and an observation group of 53 cases.The patients in the control group received no particular intervention before delivery and only received doula assistance.The patients in the observation group received resistance training,aerobic exercise,and doula assistance prior to giving birth.After delivery,the mothers were observed for 2 hours in the delivery room and then returned to the maternal and infant ward.The observation indicators of the two groups were compared.Results:In comparison to the control group,the observation group exhibited shorter durations in the first,second,and third stages of labor,as well as the total delivery time.Additionally,the amount of postpartum blood loss at 2 hours was smaller in the observation group.The rate of cesarean section was lower,and the rate of vaginal natural delivery was higher in the observation group.Following the intervention,both groups of postpartum women showed decreased SAS and SDS scores compared to before the intervention.Moreover,the observation group had lower scores than the control group.These differences were all statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:Resistance training and aerobic exercise before doula-assisted delivery can effectively improve the psychological state of parturients,shorten labor duration,increase the rate of natural vaginal delivery,and reduce pain and postpartum hemorrhage.

Intensiveness of Mothering in China and Its Relationship with Preschoolers’Emotional and Behavioral Competence:The Suppression Effect of Maternal Psychological Well-Being

Intensive parenting is becoming a prevalent parenting style in China.Parents invest tremendous time,energy,and money in childrearing,whereas the effectiveness of intensive parenting in helping children obtain developmental advantages remains controversial.Using the questionnaire survey,the present study investigates 388 mothers of preschoolers in Shanghai and Jinan,Shandong province,to explore the associations between the intensiveness of mothering,maternal psychological well-being,and preschoolers’emotional and behavioral competence.Four distinct patterns of the intensiveness of mothering are identified using latent profile analysis:high-endorsement&high-practice,medium-endorsement&medium-practice,low-endorsement&lowpractice,and selective-endorsement-and-practice.Maternal psychological well-being suppresses the relationship between the intensiveness of mothering and preschoolers’emotional and behavioral competence.The intensiveness of mothering is positively related to preschoolers’emotional and behavioral competence after excluding the indirect effect of maternal psychological well-being.In addition,mothers from profiles showing higher levels of the intensiveness of mothering have worse psychological wellbeing,and their preschoolers have lower levels of social-emotional development.The two pathways counteract each other,resulting in a non-significant overall relationship between the intensiveness of mothering and preschoolers’emotional and behavioral competence.The present study suggests that mothers may adjust their attitudes and practices toward intensive parenting,actively mediate their psychological well-being,and create a supportive environment for children’s social-emotional development.Families,preschools,and society as a whole are recommended to establish collaborative mechanisms to support mothers’childrearing and reduce their parenting stress.

Progress in Research on the Impact of Religious Psychological Coping on the Holistic Well-Being of Cancer Patients and Relevant Factors

This study reviews the historical development,current applications,and multifaceted impacts of religious psychological coping on the physical and mental health of cancer patients.As a method for coping with life’s pressures through religious beliefs or activities,religious psychological coping has been proven to alleviate the negative emotions of cancer patients and enhance their spiritual well-being and quality of life(QOL).Research indicates that religious faith can alleviate the physical symptoms of cancer patients,extend survival time,reduce the fear of death,assist in coping with treatment side effects,and improve self-efficacy and overall quality of life.Additionally,this study explores factors influencing religious psychological coping,including demographic and sociological characteristics,the faith status of caregivers,types of religion,the relationship between the course of the disease and the duration of belief,and psychological factors.Considering the cultural differences between China and other countries,this study calls for further research into the real experiences of cancer patients with religious beliefs and provides theoretical guidance for clinical nursing practices to achieve holistic care for the body,mind,and spirit of cancer patients.

Investigation of perceived stress and psychological well-being in liver recipients having immunosuppressive therapy

Background and aims:In this study,the relationship between perceived stress and psychological well-being was analyzed in liver transplant recipients having immunosuppressive therapy.Methods:This study was performed as descriptive research with 134 patients who had liver transplantation at the organ transplantation institute of a training and research hospital(n?134).The Perceived Stress Scale and the Psychological Well-Being Scale were used for the data collection.The research data were analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Science 25.0.Results:Of all participant liver transplant recipients,22.4%were aged 18–27 years and 48–57 years and 80.6%were males.Besides,the participant liver transplant recipients used immunosuppressive drugs such as prednisolone(92.53%),tacrolimus(61.9%),and mycophenolate mofetil(52.98%).It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between psychological well-being and perceived stress.Conclusion:In this study,it was discerned that perceived stress affected psychological well-being negatively.It is of importance to realize the stress experienced by liver transplant recipients and enhance their psychological wellbeing.In the process following transplant surgery,the liver transplant recipients should be carefully followed and efforts to improve patient outcomes should be made.

Integration of wearable electronics and heart rate variability for human physical and mental well-being assessment

Heart rate variability(HRV)that can reflect the dynamic balance between the sympathetic nervous and parasympathetic nervous of human autonomic nervous system(ANS)has attracted considerable attention.However,traditional electrocardiogram(ECG)devices for HRV analysis are bulky,and hard wires are needed to attach measuring electrodes to the chest,resulting in the poor wearable experience during the long-term measurement.Compared with that,wearable electronics enabling continuously cardiac signals monitoring and HRV assessment provide a desirable and promising approach for helping subjects determine sleeping issues,cardiovascular diseases,or other threats to physical and mental well-being.Until now,significant progress and advances have been achieved in wearable electronics for HRV monitoring and applications for predicting human physical and mental well-being.In this review,the latest progress in the integration of wearable electronics and HRV analysis as well as practical applications in assessment of human physical and mental health are included.The commonly used methods and physiological signals for HRV analysis are briefly summarized.Furthermore,we highlighted the research on wearable electronics concerning HRV assessment and diverse applications such as stress estimation,drowsiness detection,etc.Lastly,the current limitations of the integrated wearable HRV system are concluded,and possible solutions in such a research direction are outlined.

Impact of 222-nm ultraviolet disinfection combined with psychological care on the emotional and hospital infection of critical patients

BACKGROUND Empathetic psychological care improves mood and enhances the quality of life in critically ill patients.AIM To study the impact of combining 222-nm ultraviolet(UV)disinfection with empathetic psychological care on emotional states,nosocomial infection rates,and quality of life in critically ill patients.METHODS A total of 202 critically ill patients admitted to Beijing Ditan Hospital(December 2023 to May 2024)were randomly assigned to control(Ctrl,n=101)or observation groups(Obs,n=101).The Ctrl group received 222-nm UV disinfection and routine care,while the Obs group received 222-nm UV disinfection with empathetic psychological care.Emotional states[Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)],hospital infection rates,quality of life(36-Item Short Form Health Survey),and patient satisfaction were evaluated.RESULTS At baseline,there were no significant differences in SAS and SDS scores between the groups(P>0.05).Following care,both groups demonstrated reductions in SAS and SDS scores,with the Obs group exhibiting a significantly greater reduction(P<0.05).The Obs group also experienced a significantly lower overall hospital infection rate(P<0.05).Similarly,while baseline 36-Item Short Form Health Survey scores did not differ significantly between the groups(P>0.05),post-care scores improved in both groups,with a greater improvement observed in the Obs group(P<0.05).Additionally,the Obs group reported higher patient satisfaction ratings(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The combination of 222-nm UV disinfection and empathetic psychological care improves emotional states,reduces hospital infection rates,enhances the quality of life,and increases patient satisfaction among critically ill patients.

Correlation between psychological,family social support,and home nursing quality for an implanted venous access port

BACKGROUND Cancer patients with an implanted venous access port(IVAP)often manage their care at home during chemotherapy intervals,including maintaining the device,monitoring complications,and following medication instructions.Home care ensures continued support after discharge.However,due to factors such as age,gender,culture,psychological status,and family support,the quality of home care varies significantly.Understanding these factors can help provide targeted guidance to improve the care of cancer patients.AIM To explore IVAP chemotherapy on home care quality and its association with mental health and family support for cancer patients.METHODS This investigative study was based on a medical records system.It investigated the relationship between psychological status,family support,and home care quality in 180 patients with cancer undergoing IVAP chemotherapy.Psychological status was assessed using the State Anxiety Inventory(S-AI);family support was assessed using the Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS),and home care quality was evaluated using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-C30).Pearson’s correlation and Structural Equation Modeling were used to analyze the interplay between these factors.RESULTS The average S-AI score was 47.52±14.47,PSSS was 52.48±12.64,and EORTC QLQ-C30 was 70.09±17.32.A substantial inverse relationship was observed between the EORTC QLQ-C30 and S-AI scores(r=-0.712).A significant positive correlation was found between the EORTC QLQ-C30 and the PSSS,with a correlation coefficient of(r=0.744).The multiple linear regression analysis indicated that family social support,psychological status,and average monthly family income were the main factors influencing the variation in the quality of home care,explaining 71.9%of the variation.The Structural Equation Modeling results indicated that psychological status acted as a partial mediator in the association between family social support and home care quality of life,explaining 32.78%of the mediation effect.CONCLUSION Psychological status and family social support positively impacted cancer patients’home care quality,with psychology partially mediating this effect.

Humanistic and graded psychological nursing care for patients undergoing endoscopic submucosal dissection of gastrointestinal tumors

BACKGROUND Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)has become a widely accepted,minimally invasive treatment for gastrointestinal submucosal tumors.It has been reported that humanistic nursing care with graded psychological interventions can effectively enhance patients’physical activity in patients,reduce postoperative complications,and improve their postoperative quality of life.AIM To investigate the effects of combining humanistic care with graded psychological support on nursing satisfaction and quality of life in patients undergoing ESD for gastrointestinal submucosal tumors.METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 180 patients who underwent ESD surgery for gastrointestinal submucosal tumors at our hospital between March 2021 and February 2023.Patients were allocated into groups based on the nursing care they received:The control group,which received routine care(n=90),and the observation group,which was subjected to humanistic nursing care in combination with graded psychological support(n=90).Patient anxiety and depression were assessed using the self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS).Quality of life was evaluated using the shortform 36 health survey,and additional indications such as time to first food intake,surgery duration,length of hospital stay,nursing satisfaction,and adverse reactions were also recorded.Data was analyzed using SPSS22.0,with t-tests employed for continuous variables andχ2 tests for categorical data.RESULTS Patients in the observation group experienced significantly shorter times to first postoperative meal,surgery,and hospital stay compared to the control group.After the intervention,the SAS score of the observation group was 43.17±5.68,and the SDS score was 41.57±6.52,both significantly lower than those of the control group,with SAS score of 52.38±5.21 and SDS score of 51.23±8.25.In addition,the observation group scored significantly higher in daily living,physical function,psychological well-being,and social functioning(80.01±6.39,83.59±6.89,81.69±5.34,and 85.23±6.05,respectively).Moreover,the observation group also exhibited higher satisfaction and selfefficacy scores and a lower incidence of adverse reactions compared to the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION For patients undergoing ESD for gastrointestinal submucosal tumors,humanistic nursing care in combination with graded psychological nursing care significantly shorten the times to first postoperative meal,surgery,and hospital stay,effectively alleviates anxiety and depression,improves quality of life and nursing satisfaction,and mitigate the incidence of adverse reactions.

An overview of studies on psychological well-being in children born following assisted reproductive technologies

Over the course of the past 35 years,assisted reproductive technologies(ARTs)have been increasingly used worldwide,while debates on their safety have been generated.Birth defects and imprinting disorders were reported in previous research.Thus,the psychological development of children born following ARTs has become a major concern nowadays.This review gives a systematic view of psychological well-being of children conceived by different types of ART,including in vitro fertilization,intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI),preimplantation genetic diagnosis/screening,and in vitro maturation.The previous studies are analyzed in three sections:(1)cognitive,motor,and language developments,(2)behavior problems and socio-emotional development,and(3)parent-child relationship.We conclude that although the majority of the studies on cognitive,motor,and language developments reported comparable achievements in the ART group vs.the naturally conceived group,lower intelligence quotient(IQ)scores,worse visual-motor ability or locomotor development,and delayed receptive language competence were found in the ART group.The results on the socio-emotional development were reassuring.As for the behavior problems,a higher prevalence of behavior problems existed in ART children;moreover,ICSI children were found to be at a higher risk of autism than the general population.Meanwhile,ART parents tended to have positive parental attitudes and be more protective of their children.Some suggestions for further research are also given in this review.

The relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being in Chinese college students: the mediating role of psychological resilience and the moderating role of peer influence

Objective:To explore the influence of physical exercise,psychological resilience,and peer influence on subjective well-being,and then build a model of moderated mediation.Methods:Physical Activity Rating,Connor Davision Resilience Scale,Peer Influence Scale,and Index of Well-Being were used.This paper investigated 790 undergraduates.Results:(1)Physical exercise has a significant positive predictive effect on subjective well-being(β=0.43,P<0.001);(2)Psychological resilience plays a part in mediating the relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being.The mediating effect value is 0.18;(3)The relationship between physical exercise and psychological resilience moderated by the peer influence.Compared with the low peer influence(β simple=0.01,t=0.06,P>0.05),physical exercise has a stronger positive predictive effect on psychological resilience in college students with high peer influence(β simple=0.87,t=2.07,P<0.05).Conclusion:Physical exercise affects college students'subjective well-being through psychological resilience,and peer influence moderates the mediating effect of psychological resilience.
