The accumulation and transfer of Pb,Zn,Cu,and Cd along a soil-plant-insect-chicken food chain at contaminated sites were investigated.The study site nearing the Pb/Zn mine had been contaminated by heavy metals severely.Cadmium and Pb concentrations steadily declined with increasing trophic level(p 〈 0.01),but concentrations of Zn and Cu slightly increased from plant to insect larva(p 〉 0.05).The concentrations of heavy metals were the highest in chicken muscle,with lower values in liver and blood.The bioaccumulation of Pb was observed in chicken livers.The eliminations of Pb,Zn,Cu,and Cd via insect and chicken feces avoid metal bioaccumulation in insect and chicken body.These results suggest that the accumulation of heavy metals in specific animal organ of tissues could not be neglected,although transfer of metals to chicken from plant and insect was limited. 展开更多

Giao Thuy and Hai Hau coasts are located in Nam Dinh province, Vietnam, with a total coastline of 54.42 km in length. The sea-dike system has been seriously damaged and there have been many dike breaches which caused floods and losses. This situation is considered of a general representative for coastal area in the northern part of Vietnam. A variety of studies have shown that the gradient in the longshore sediment transport rate and the offshore fine sediment lost are the main mechanisms causing the beach erosion. This study presents a field investigation of the beach profiles at Giao Thuy and Hai Hau beaches. Three types of empirical functions for the equilibrium beach profile are applied and compared with the observations. Results show that all observed beach profiles can be described by a single function. However, one specific equilibrium profile equation is not sufficient to assess all beach profiles. In Section 1 of Giao Thuy and Section 3 of Hai Thinh beaches, beach profiles are consistent with the logarithmic function, while the exponential function fits well in Section 2. This difference is explained with respect to coastal morphology, sediment characteristics and hydrodynamic conditions which vary in site. An analysis of the validity of the beach profile functions is recommended for the numerical modeling and engineering designs in this area. 展开更多

Time-lapse seismic data is studied to improve the oil recovery for this field, This feasibility study analyzes the possible time-lapse seismic attribute spatial distribution using dynamic data and the reservoir model to determine the optimum time to acquire a new seismic survey. Based on the study, it is found that the time-lapse seismic response for this unconsolidated sand has a strong signature due to solution gas when the reservoir pressure is below the bubble point. This indicates that acquiring a new survey after 10 years of production is appropriate for a time-lapse seismic application. 展开更多

Gaseous detonation propagating in a toroidal chamber was numerically studied for hydrogen/oxygen/nitrogen mixtures. The numerical method used is based on the three-dimensional Euler equations with detailed finiterate chemistry. The results show that the calculated streak picture is in qualitative agreement with the picture recorded by a high speed streak camera from published literature. The three-dimensional flow field induced by a continuously rotating detonation was visualized and distinctive features of the rotating detonations were clearly depicted. Owing to the unconfined character of detonation wavelet, a deficit of detonation parameters was observed. Due to the effects of wall geometries, the strength of the outside detonation front is stronger than that of the inside portion. The detonation thus propagates with a constant circular velocity. Numerical simulation also shows three-dimensional rotating detonation structures, which display specific feature of the detonation- shock combined wave. Discrete burning gas pockets are formed due to instability of the discontinuity. It is believed that the present study could give an insight into the interest- ing properties of the continuously rotating detonation, and is thus beneficial to the design of continuous detonation propulsion systems. 展开更多

Kunming,a city in southwest China,has a climate that is different from most of the other places in the world because of its unique geographical characteristics.Due to its temperate climate,most of the residential buildings in this region are naturally ventilated.Accordingly,a winter thermal comfort study was conducted in Kunming to reveal the thermal response of residents.Indoor and outdoor environmental parameters were measured,and participants were investigated about their clothing,thermal sensations,thermal preferences,and thermal acceptance using online questionnaires.Data from 162 valid questionnaires were collected in the survey.Although the climate is referred to as“mild”,the survey showed that the indoor temperature during winter was lower than the typical comfort range.Nevertheless,the participants responded that most of them felt neutral and comfortable.The neutral temperature of participants living in Kunming was determined to be 16.96℃.The acceptable thermal sensation vote(TSV)range of the residents is-0.72 to 1.52.The acceptable indoor air temperature range is 15.03℃ to 19.55℃,and the optimum indoor air temperature is 17.2℃.According to this study,the existing thermal comfort evaluation models can hardly predict residents’thermal responses in Kunming well. 展开更多

This is a numerical study of a falling droplet surrounding by air under the electric field modeled with finite volume method by means of CFD.The VOF method has been employed to model the two-phase flow of the present study.Various capillary numbers are investigated to analyze the effects of electric field intensity on the falling droplet deformation.Also,the effects of electric potential on the heat transfer coefficient have been examined.The obtained results showed that by applying the electric field at a capillary number of 0.2 the droplet tends to retain its primitive shape as time goes by,with a subtle deformation to an oblate form.Intensifying the electric field to a capillary number of 0.8 droplet deformation is almost insignificantwith time progressing;however,further enhancement in capillary number to 2 causes the droplet to deform as a prolate shape and higher values of this number intensify the prolate form deformation of the droplet and result in pinch-off phenomenon.Ultimately,it is showed that as the electric potential augments the heat transfer coefficient increases in which for electric potential values higher than 2400 V the heat transfer coefficient enhances significantly. 展开更多

Background: Radiation therapy should not only be directed to improve the local control, which has a survival benefit, but also should be directed to minimize the risk of complications, which may develop in critical organs. Several studies have reported that field-in-field (FiF) radiotherapy technique improves the dose homogeneity, decreases doses to lungs, heart and contralateral breast compared with conventional wedged technique. Purpose: compare the dosimetry for the left breast cancer radiotherapy using three different radiotherapy techniques, tangential wedged fields (TW), segmented field (FiF) and inverse planning IMRT (IP-IMRT). Material and Methods: Twenty patients have undergone left breast-conservative surgery and received a prescribed dose of 50 Gy/25 fractions. Results: The mean PTV receiving >105% (V105) dose was1.75% for IP-IMRT, 2.03% for FiF, and 4.82% for TW. The mean V95% was 92.1% for TW, 96% for FiF, and 95.1% for IP-IMRT;these differences regarding V105% and V95% are statistically significant through paired comparison between FiF vs TW and IP-IMRT vs TW, with no statistically significant difference between FiF and IP-IMRT. Better conformity and homogeneity indices for FiF and IMRT compared to TW with statistical significant difference. Regarding organs at risk, left lung and heart have higher values of V5, V10, and V20 for IP-IMRT compared to TW and FiF;the differences are statistically significant, lower coronary artery regionV30 vules for IPIMRT compared to TW and FiF but no difference in the Dmean between IPIMRT and FIF. FiF and TW decrease the contralateral breast dose significantly compared to IP IMRT. Conclusion: FiF technique is an efficient and reliable method for achieving a uniform dose throughout the whole breast resulting in improved coverage, sparing of organs at risk and reduction of acute and late toxicities. 展开更多

Solar Photovoltaic is a very promising solution that can greatly contribute in solving the increasing global energy demand. In both rural and urban areas, photovoltaic modules are in some instances installed close to telecommunication antennas or voltage transformers which generate important magnetic fields in their vicinity. The question is whether or not these magnetic fields affect the performances of the photovoltaic installations. This article presents a modelling study of external magnetic field effect on the electrical parameters of a photovoltaic module. The photocurrent, the photovoltage, the electric power, the series and the shunt resistances of the photovoltaic module, made up of ideal cells, are deduced from those of a silicon solar cell. Then, the I-V and P-V curves are plotted and the theoretical values of the electrical parameters of the photovoltaic module are deduced. The series and shunt resistances of the photovoltaic module are calculated using well known equations and the previous electrical parameters. The results show the negative effect of magnetic field on the performance of a solar photovoltaic module. 展开更多

Earthquakes result from continuous geodynamic processes.A topic of significant interest for the scientific community is to elaborate on the phenomena governing the faulting and fracturing of crustal rocks.Therefore,in this study,uniaxial compressive shear failure experiments were conducted on Fangshan marble rock samples with a prefabricated slot to simulate thrust faulting.The center of each marble plate(105 mm × 80 mm × 5 mm) was engraved with a 30-mm long double-sided nonpenetrating slot(depth:2 mm,width:0.5 mm).The deformation and destruction processes of the rock surface were recorded using a high-speed camera.The digital image correlation method was used to calculate the displacement and strain distribution and variation at different loading stages.The accumulative and incremental displacement fields u and v,strain field exand e_(y),and shear strain e_(xy) were analyzed.When the loading level reached its ultimate value,the strain field was concentrated around the prefabricated slot.The concentration reached a maximum at the ends of the prefabricated slot.The magnitude of shear strain reached 0.1.This experiment contributes to our understanding of the dynamic process of active faulting. 展开更多

Adjacent treatment fields are commonly employed in external beam radiation therapy, such as the mantle and inverted-Y fields for the treatment of Hodgkin's disease. In some cases, the adjacent fields are orthogonal, such as the craniospinal fields used in the treatment of medulloblastoma. Another example is the irradiation of head and neck tumors when the lateral neck fields are placed adjacent to the anterior supraclavicular field. In each of these situations, there is a possibility of introducing very large dosage errors across the junction. Consequently, this region is at risk for tumor recurrence if it is underdosed or severe complications if it is overdosed. Four millimeter overlap and gap resulted in an unacceptable dose in homogeneity in the junction. As a result of this study, the magnitudes of hot and cold spots might be clinically acceptable for 3 mm gap between photon fields. 展开更多

The influence of external stress σ33, misfit strain μm and domain wall energy on the adiabatic temperature change ( △ Tσ) at room temperature are carried out. The calculation results indicate that |△Tσ| increases as |σ33| or |μm| increases. The largest △ Tσ wlue of--7.81( is obtained at σ33 = 2 GPa and Um =-0.02. Furthermore, the domain switching behaviors under different gradient coeffcients are different, and finally affect the elastocaloric effect in PTO thin films. These results could provide a guide to choose the substrate and the preparation process in experiments. 展开更多

A Study on Remediation Technologies for Cadmium Contamination in Greenhouse Vegetable Fields

Based on the literature and experimental results, three kinds of amendments, namely, rice biochar, hydroxyapatite and potassium dihydrogen phosphate(KH2PO4), and deeper ploughing were selected to evaluate the field application effect of soil amendments and agronomic measures on the remediation of Cd contamination in greenhouses. Cd-contaminated greenhouse screening was conducted from 2015 to 2017. In September 2017, comparative tests of eight treatments were performed in September 2017, and a selective test was performed in September 2018. The results of the screening of contaminated areas indicated that the distributions of over-standard sites and Cd content were significantly different. Greenhouse No. 4, in which the highest over-standard rate was 83.33% and the average content of Cd in soil was 0.535 mg/kg, was used as a comparative test experimental site for eight treatments. Greenhouse No. 1 was selected as the optimum test greenhouse for selective testing, with three plots having average Cd concentrations of 0.530, 0.568 and 0.792 mg/kg. The 8 months following comparative treatment showed that the content of available Cd following the treatment of rice biochar+hydroxyapatite+deeper ploughing(treatment T6) was reduced by 32.55% and 24.96% compared with the CK(the control) and 2 months following treatment, respectively. The content of available Cd using rice biochar+KH2PO4+deeper ploughing(treatment T7) treatment decreased by 47.88% and 31.00% compared with the CK and 2 months following treatment. The selective test results showed that in rice biochar+hydroxyapatite+deeper ploughing: the total Cd content of decreased from 0.489 to 0.372 mg/kg(23.86% lower), compared with the CK, and the mean content of available Cd decreased by 10.71% after 8 months, which was the lowest available Cd measured(0.133 mg/kg). In addition, the bean plant Cd content, bioconcentration factor(BCF) and translocation coefficient(TF) decreased by 15.86%, 23.68% and 25.77%, respectively. Rice biochar+hydroxyapatite+deeper ploughing is a favoured technology for the remediation of Cd-contaminated protected vegetable fields. 展开更多

Feasibility study on technical process of welding has been experimentally considered as a hopeful joint method for suppression of post-welding deformation and reduction of over-heating. Meanwhile the final range of stress intensity and the stress intensity factor (K) for pre-cracks of welding structure have been determined by using J-integral. These related results are optimistic and have shown that there's no problem in strength and fracture toughness at the vicinity of the pre-crack tip. To optimize the technological parameter of underground coal gasification (UCG), the experimental results of air gasification, air-steam gasification, oxygen-enrichment steam gasification, pure oxygen steam gasification and two-stage gasification were studied contrastively based on field trial at the Huating UCG project. The results indicate that the average low heat value of gas from air experiment is the lowest (4.1 MJ/Nm3) and the water gas from two-stage gasification experiment is the highest (10.72 MJ/Nm3). The gas productivity of air gasification is the highest and the pure oxygen steam gasification is the lowest. The gasification efficiency of air gasification, air-steam gasification, oxygen-enriched steam gasification, pure oxygen steam gasification and two-stage gasification is listed in ascending order, ranging from 69.88% to 84.81%. Described a contract study on results of a field test using steam and various levels of oxygen enrichment of 21%, 32%, 42% and 100%. The results show that, with the increasing of O2 content in gasifying agents, the gas caloricity rises, and the optimal O2 concentration range to increase the gas caloricity is 30%-40%. Meanwhile, the consumption of O2 and steam increase, and the air consumption and steam decomposition efficiency fall. 展开更多

Three types of previously used numerical methods are revisited for computing the streamfunctionψand velocity potentialχfrom the horizontal velocity v in limited domains.The first type,called the SOR-based method,uses a classical successive over-relaxation(SOR)scheme to computeψ(orχ)first with an arbitrary boundary condition(BC)and thenχ(orψ)with the BC derived from v.The second type,called the spectral method,uses spectral formulations to construct the inner part of(ψ,χ)-the inversion of(vorticity,divergence)with a homogeneous BC,and then the remaining harmonic part of(ψ,χ)with BCs from v.The third type,called the integral method,uses integral formulas to compute the internally induced(ψ,χ)-the inversion of domain-internal(vorticity,divergence)using the free-space Greenꞌs function without BCs and then the remaining harmonicψ(orχ)with BCs from v minus the internally-induced part.Although these methods have previously been successfully applied to flows in large-scale and synoptic-scale domains,their accuracy is compromised when applied to complex flows over mesoscale domains,as shown in this paper.To resolve this problem,two hybrid approaches,the integral-SOR method and the integral-spectral method,are developed by combining the first step of the integral method with the second step adopted from the SOR-based and spectral methods,respectively.Upon testing these methods on real-case complex flows,the integral-SOR method is significantly more accurate than the integral-spectral method,noting that the latter is still generally more accurate than the three previously-used methods.The integral-SOR method is recommended for future applications and diagnostic studies of complex flows. 展开更多
