The Role of Music Therapy in Supporting Intellectually Disabled Youth in Senegal

Introduction: Music therapy is a practice for helping and supporting people with intellectual and relational difficulties. This study illustrated the benefits of music therapy for young people living with intellectual disabilities (YLID) in an African context. Methodology: This study investigated six young individuals with intellectual disabilities who had undergone three years of music therapy. They were participants in the inclusive non-academic training program at the National School of Arts in Dakar from 2017 to 2019. Data collection utilized individual interviews with the youths, evaluation grids from teachers and psychiatrists. Guardians provided informed consent along with the assent of the young participants. Results: The six young were aged between 18 and 30 years old, with an average age of 24.6 years. Four of the YLID were male. Three young people with intellectual disabilities had delayed psychomotor development. Observations revealed the beneficial influence of music therapy on the health and well-being of young individuals. Music played a role in alleviating stress and anxiety among youth with intellectual disabilities (YLID), enhancing their mood and mental health. It assisted in navigating challenging situations and heightened alertness among YLID. Additionally, music therapy contributed to improvements in dyslexia, fine and gross motor skills, and memory development among intellectually disabled youth, ultimately facilitating their integration into society. Conclusion: In light of our results, music therapy makes a major contribution to the empowerment of YLID. Engaging in musical activities helps young people connect with others through instrumental expression and a sense of accomplishment. By facilitating music therapy, it becomes possible to combat discrimination and stigmatization, thus promoting the social inclusion of intellectually disabled youth. Therefore, it is important to promote music therapy in Senegal to meet the needs of YLID.

Russian Music of the Soviet Era: For Archive or Forever

The purpose of the article is to present several topics in Russian music of the Soviet era(roughly 1920-1990).The time that has passed since the fall of the Iron Curtain allows us to rethink and revise the cultural treasures of seven decades and reassess new research of the last decade,carried out both by people who previously gained a reputation as an authority in Soviet culture,and by scientists who came from this environment and began sharing their vision of the subject after acquiring the skills of a Western scholar.The article is based mainly on the latter research and tries to see its subject as a complete picture,albeit with missing details,so to speak,a postmodern picture that requires the reader to participate in its refinement.The methodological basis of this study is working with published sources through the critical lens of cultural anthropology as it has developed and presently looks.

Effect of music therapy on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in gastrointestinal cancer:A systematic review and metaanalysis

BACKGROUND Chemotherapy is the primary treatment for patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer,but it has many adverse reactions,particularly nausea and vomiting.Music therapy can reduce anxiety symptoms,avoid the response to the human body under various stress conditions through psychological adjustment,and improve the adverse reactions of chemotherapy.AIM To investigate the impact of music therapy on relieving gastrointestinal adverse reactions in chemotherapy for patients with digestive tract cancer by metaanalysis.METHODS EMBASE,PubMed,OVID,WoS,CNKI,CBM,and VIP database were all used for searching relevant literature,and the efficacy after treatment was combined for analysis and evaluation.RESULTS This study included seven articles.The results of meta-analysis indicated that music therapy could reduce the nausea symptom score of patients after chemotherapy[mean difference(MD)=-3.15,95%confidence interval(CI):-4.62 to-1.68,Z=-4.20,P<0.0001].Music therapy could reduce the vomiting symptom score of patients after chemotherapy(MD=-2.28,95%CI:-2.46 to-2.11,Z=-25.15,P<0.0001).Furthermore,music therapy could minimize the incidence of grade I and above nausea or vomiting in patients after chemotherapy(odds ratio=0.38,95%CI:0.26-0.56,Z=-4.88,P<0.0001).Meta-regression analysis found that publication year was not a specific factor affecting the combined results.There was no significant publication bias(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Music therapy can significantly improve the scores of nausea and vomiting symptoms in patients with digestive system cancer during chemotherapy and reduce the incidence of grade I and above nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy,making it an effective psychological intervention method worthy of clinical promotion.

改进MUSIC算法的超声波测风方法研究

针对传统超声波测风装置测风精度不高、抗噪声能力弱,提出了一种改进多重信号分类(multiple signal classification,MUSIC)算法的超声波测风方法。采用一种弧形6阵元超声波传感器阵列的测风结构,推导其阵列流型;在此基础上,添加小波阈值降噪算法提高信号信噪比,降低噪声信号协方差矩阵的秩;再使用PHAT加权广义互相关时延估计算法以提高时延估计的准确性,同时根据时延关系对传统MUSIC算法矢量矩阵进行改进;最后通过MUSIC算法实现对风速风向的测量。理论分析与仿真结果表明:改进后的MUSIC算法具有较好的抗噪性能和较高的风参数测量精度,测量风速绝对误差达到0.15 m/s,风向绝对误差达到2°,可以应用于对风参数要求较高的场景。

Potential impact of music interventions in managing diabetic conditions

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases,characterized by an insufficiency in insulin secretion as well as chronic hyperglycemia and disturbances in carbohydrate,lipid,and protein metabolism.The major aim of this study was to conduct a literature review on the impact of music intervention on the management of diabetic conditions among patients.Available studies on the impact of music interventions on the management of diabetic conditions were reviewed and analysed using descriptive literature review approach.This review showed that music intervention plays a dual role in managing patients'diabetic conditions.First,music intervention is impactful in managing the health condition of diabetic patients through enhancing the patient’s compliance with exercise,improving lower limb blood circulation,and enhancing health parameters that increase autonomous balance among diabetic patients.Second,music therapy is impactful in the management of diabetic conditions through lowering blood sugar,heart rate,glucose levels,and stress among patients.However,with the number of empirical studies available in this regard,the impact of music intervention is still growing,and longer-term studies and randomised controlled trials with robust sample size are recommended to reach a more valid conclusion.

一种奇异值分解与子空间加权联合的改进MUSIC算法

在低信噪比、小快拍数等非理想条件下,经典DOA估计算法对邻近目标的分辨率严重下降,甚至失去分辨能力。针对这一问题,提出了一种将重构的接收信号协方差矩阵进行奇异值分解并与改进的加权子空间方法相结合的改进算法。该算法充分利用互相关信息构建新的接收信号协方差矩阵,并对噪声子空间信息采用新的校正方法,对噪声特征值进行改造,之后对噪声子空间进行加权,最后与信号子空间加权技术相联合。仿真实验证明,改进算法在低信噪比和小快拍数条件下可以分辨间隔4°的相邻目标,统计分析表明该算法的分辨率明显优于经典MUSIC算法。

Differential advantages of musical backgrounds on binaural integration and interaction skills in instrumentalists,vocalists,and non-musicians

Background:Musical perception requires a host of skills.Instrumental musicians place greater emphasis on motor coordination,whereas vocal musicians rehearse vocal sounds.The study explored the differential advantages of musical background on binaural integration and interaction in musicians(instrumentalists,vocalists)and compared them with age-matched non-musicians.Methods:Eight six participants aged 20e40 y with normal hearing sensitivity were subjected to binaural tests using a standard group comparison research design.The participants were segregated into three groups e Group 1 included instrumentalists(n?26,mean age:17.73±2.83 y),while Group 2 and Group 3 consisted of vocalists(n?30,mean age:19.30±2.47 y)and non-musicians(n?30,mean age:18.20±3.02 y)respectively.The binaural processes namely integration(Dichotic syllable test,DST;and virtual acoustic space identification-VASI)and interaction(Interaural difference thresholds for time and level:ITD&ILD),were administered on all the participants.Results:Statistical analyses showed the main effect of musicianship.Bonferroni pair-wise test revealed that the musicians(instrumentalists and vocalists)outperformed(p<0.05)non-musicians in all the tests.The differential advantage of the musical background was seen on the binaural integration test with instrumentalists performing better in the VASI test compared to vocalists,and vice-versa for DST.No difference was observed in interaction tasks(ITD&ILD)between vocalists and instrumentalists(p>0.05).Conclusion:Musical background-induced differential advantages can be reasonably noted in the binaural skills of instrumentalists and vocalists(compared to non-musicians).

Effects of Physical Exercise and Music Therapy on Cognitive Aspects in Tunisian Patients with Mild Alzheimer’s Type Dementia

Aim: The objective of this research is to highlight the effectiveness of physical exercise and music therapy in older patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods: Patients with a mild level of AD were included in this study, divided into the therapy group (TG;N = 30, aged 68 ± 3.2 years) and the control group (CG;N=30, aged 65 ± 2.6 years). The therapy group was enrolled in an exercise-training program (walking, resistance and balance exercises) combined with musical therapy for 10 weeks (three sessions of 60 minutes per week). The Control group was instructed to follow their daily rhythm of life (e.g., rest, reading) under the same conditions. The intervention program was enrolled under the supervision of;one psychologist;a neurologist;two music therapists, and two physiotherapists, all belonging to the same hospital unit. After 10 weeks of participation in the combined program, cognitive parameters were improved in the therapy group measured with the Behavior Pathology in Alzheimer Disease (BEHAVE-AD), (p < 0.05) for activity disturbance, diurnal rhythm disturbances, anxieties and phobias, affective disturbance. The percentage range of improvements is 1.07% to 2.96%. Results: Our results demonstrate that physical exercise combined with music therapy improves cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Conclusions: Physical exercise and music therapy are beneficial combined treatments for improving life quality in older patients. This approach may be useful to help patients with a mild level of Alzheimer’s disease improve their behavioral and psychological parameters.

Effect of music on colonoscopy performance: A propensity scorematched analysis

BACKGROUND Music has been used to reduce stress and improve task performance during medical therapy.AIM To assess the effects of music on colonoscopy performance outcomes.METHODS We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent colonoscopy performed by four endoscopists with popular music.Colonoscopy performance outcomes,such as insertion time,adenoma detection rate(ADR),and polyp detection rate(PDR),were compared between the music and non-music groups.To reduce selection bias,propensity score matching was used.RESULTS After one-to-one propensity score matching,169 colonoscopies were selected from each group.No significant differences in insertion time(4.97 vs 5.17 min,P=0.795)and ADR(39.1%vs 46.2%,P=0.226)were found between the two groups.Subgroup analysis showed that the insertion time(3.6 vs 3.8 min,P=0.852)and ADR(51.1%vs 44.7%,P=0.488)did not significantly differ between the two groups in experts.However,in trainees,PDR(46.9%vs 66.7%,P=0.016)and ADR(25.9%vs 47.6%,P=0.006)were significantly lower in the music than in the nonmusic group.CONCLUSION The current study found that listening to music during colonoscopy did not affect procedure performance.Moreover,it suggested that music may distract trainees from appropriately detecting adenomas and polyps.

Construction of Psychological Adjustment Function Model of Music Education Based on Emotional Tendency Analysis

In the face offierce competition in the social environment,mental health problems gradually get the attention of the public,in order to achieve accurate mental health data analysis,the construction of music education is based on emotional tendency analysis of psychological adjustment function model.Design emotional tendency analysis of music education psychological adjustment function architecture,music teaching goal as psychological adjust-ment function architecture building orientation,music teaching content as a foundation for psychological adjust-ment function architecture and music teaching process as a psychological adjustment function architecture building,music teaching evaluation as the key of building key regulating function architecture,Establish a core literacy oriented evaluation system.Different evaluation methods were used to obtain the evaluation results.Four levels of psychological adjustment function model of music education are designed,and the psychological adjust-ment function of music education is put forward,thus completing the construction of psychological adjustment function model of music education.The experimental results show that the absolute value of the data acquisition error of the designed model is minimum,which is not more than 0.2.It is less affected by a bad coefficient and has good performance.It can quickly converge to the best state in the actual prediction process and has a strong con-vergence ability.

Women in the Musical Culture of Danzig in the First Half of the 20th Century

The musical culture of pre-war Danzig/Gdansk remains an area that is not well enough recognized in the scholarly literature.Numerous traces of this musical life are preserved in the collections of the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences.The collection ranges from scholarly publications and scores to an extensive number of concert programs and posters.The collection testifies to the dynamism and diversity of the city’s pre-war musical life.Notable among the collected materials is the role of female figures-composers,singers,and instrumentalists who made significant contributions to the shape of Gdansk musical life.In this article,I will present forgotten profiles of musically committed women:Martha Reincke,Ella Mertins,and Lotte Prins.In light of the surviving materials,it can be assumed that they were significant figures in the musical culture and social life of the city.

Application Research of Music Therapy in Mental Health of Special Children

A healthy psychological state is the premise for children to carry out various activities.Previous surveys have shown that children with special needs are affected by their own obstacles and are more prone to psychological problems such as sensitivity,low self-esteem,and impulsiveness.Therefore,it is necessary to provide more sys-tematic mental health education support for special children.Mental health education programs are an efficient form of maintaining children’s mental health.However,in thefield of special education,the number of mental health education courses developed according to the physical and mental characteristics and developmental needs of special children is relatively small,and there are many difficulties in the implementation process.Autism dis-order(ASD)is a kind of pervasive developmental dysfunction that is relatively common and representative in clinical practice.In recent years,the number of autistic children has continued to surge,and has gradually expanded from a family problem to a serious social problem.At present,the evaluation of the effect of autism intervention mainly relies on various behavioral scales,which are subjective to a certain extent.At the same time,due to the unclear pathogenesis of autism,the treatment of autism cannot be predicated on the right medicine,and can only be intervened in various ways.The purpose of this paper is to explore the difference between the EEG signals of autistic children and typically developing control(TD)children through the analysis method of EEG signals,and based on the analysis of EEG signals from an objective point of view,to study whether the music therapy method of Chinese Zither playing training can effectively Improving the brain functional status of chil-dren with autism yields positive therapeutic outcomes.The experimental results show that the complexity of brain electrical signals of ASD children is much lower than that of TD children,and there is a significant difference in the brain functional state between the two.The music therapy method based on Chinese zither playing training can improve the brain function of autistic patients,and there is a positive therapeutic effect.And with the exten-sion of the training period,the effect may be more significant.Chinese zither playing training can provide a new direction for the intervention of autism.

Significance of music therapy in treating depression and anxiety disorders among people with cancer

Globally,cancer cases and mortality have recently escalated and have attracted global concern.The clinical diagnosis and manifestation of cancer can result in significant mental health issues like depression and anxiety disorders.The tendency of people with cancer to suffer from psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression is usually high.A significant number of deaths related to cancer may likely not be from the killer disease but from psychological disorders associated with the illness.The utilization of music as a remedial approach to healing mental disorders cannot be overstated.Thus,identifying the impacts of music therapy in dealing with depression and anxiety disorders among people with cancer is relevant,as the majority of methods used in treating cancer have some side effects which may trigger psychological disorders in cancer patients.Ultimately,this study explored the significance of music therapy in treating depression and anxiety disorders among people with cancer.To achieve the aim of this study,the authors employed a narrative literature review to investigate the significance of music therapy in addressing depression and anxiety disorders among people with cancer.The type of literature review employed in this study is to provide an understanding of the selected research papers.The review found that music therapy significantly reduces depression and anxiety disorders among breast cancer,lung cancer,prostate cancer,and colorectal cancer patients.It is needful for healthcare providers to incorporate music therapy interventions while treating people with cancer.This will help reduce cancer deaths resulting from psychological disorders rather than the killer disease,cancer.However,the standardized procedures and evaluation criteria for applying music-based intervention strategies in oncology medicine still need to be further established and improved.

Inheritance and Development of Guangxi Minority Musical Instruments and Their Integration With Operas

The traditional musical instrument of minorities converges the evolution of ethnic group culture and history,and ethnic musical instruments are a core component of minority culture.The traditional instruments of Guangxi minorities are rich and varied,and an all-round cultural inheritance and protection mechanism should be used for ethnic musical instruments,so that the performance form of classical musical instruments of minorities can be more widely understood and mastered.Therefore,in this paper,we discuss the specific practice idea of the inheritance and development of classical musical instruments of Guangxi minorities,and facilitate the innovation of development path of ethnic musical instruments by taking the inheritance form of integrating musical instruments with operas.

Edgar Lawrence Doctorow’s Ragtime:Ragtime Music and the Musicalization of Fiction

The purpose of the present paper is to explore Edgar Lawrence Doctorow’s novel Ragtime(1975)as a masterful adaptation of musical form in fiction.It demonstrates the ways in which the use of musical devices of Ragtime shapes the rhythmic/narrative structure of the novel.The article offers the reading of the novel as a musicalized fiction,or,in other words,as a form of musico-literary intermediality.It focuses on the chief characteristics of Doctorow’s novel such as a plurality of independent consciousnesses and a diversity of simultaneous points of view/voices.The novel by its very design is polyphonic.Manipulating polyrhythmic effects,mixed rhythms,repetitive phrases and leitmotifs,Doctorow is experimenting with the rhythm both on micro and macro textual levels.

A Study on the Inheritance Path of Red Music in Universities Under the Multicultural Background

Red music culture is a cultural form created by the people led by the Communist Party of China(CPC)in the process of revolution,construction,and reform.The inheritance and dissemination of this cultural form in universities,especially in the context of multiculturalism,has important social and cultural value.This study takes the red music culture in Shanghai as the research carrier,and explores the inheritance path of red music in universities through background investigation,theoretical research,specific practice,and achievement display.The research results show that red music culture can be effectively inherited and promoted by strengthening the construction of the red music culture cloud platform in universities,integrating red music culture resources into the campus environment,and promoting it in Chinese,English,and Japanese on social media.In addition,this study also explores the effective role of red music culture in establishing correct ideals and beliefs among college students.

基于DSP的快速MUSIC测角算法

基于阵列信号处理的MUSIC算法,由于其超高的角分辨率和角精度,受到广泛的关注。但是其高运算复杂度,较大地限制了算法的硬件实现。为此,基于MUSIC算法的基本原理,文中分析了该算法在DSP(TI1843)硬件系统实现中关键子步骤的运行时长。针对最为耗时和占用内存最大的空间谱构建和谱峰搜索子步骤,分别提出了便于工程实现的简化方法,并通过硬件平台移植验证了算法的可行性,对比发现该方法大大减少了运算时间和内存空间,具有较高实际应用价值。

利用改进MUSIC方法进行洋流方位估计

洋流能够调节全球热量的分布,降低航运成本。以往的洋流方位估计方法未对洋流信号源之间的相关性进行完全消除,导致估计效果较差。因此,本文设计了基于改进MUSIC方法的洋流方位估计方法。首先,以采集到的洋流信号为基础,构建洋流阵列信号模型,并对洋流信号进行降噪处理,提高信号数据的质量。然后,为减少洋流信号源之间相关性对估计结果的影响,利用改进MUSIC方法及协方差矩阵,对洋流信号源相关性进行消除,通过计算信号源的相关参数,构建洋流方位估计模型。最后,通过对洋流信号源的转换,实现洋流方位的估计。在仿真试验中,以南海部分海域为试验对象,对不同谱点下估计方法的估计效果进行评价,与以往的洋流方位估计方法相比,设计的基于改进MUSIC方法的洋流方位估计方法精度高达97.2%,应用效果更好。
