This paper proposes an improved method for the prediction of radial vibration in switched reluctance motor(SRM)considering magnetic saturation. In this paper, the basic modeling principle is briefly introduced,it is based on the derivation that the peak acceleration is dependent on the product of phase current and current gradient idi/dt.However,the derivation may cause errors due to saturation effect. Thus in this paper, the discrete sample data are firstly acquired based on DC pulse measurement method,by which electromagnetic, torque and peak acceleration characteristics can all be acquired. Then the entire peak acceleration characteristics are obtained by improved Least Square Support Vector Machine(LSSVM).Based on the obtained static peak acceleration characteristics, the time-varied radial vibration model is established based on superposition of natural oscillations of dominant vibration modes. Finally,a simulation model is built up using MATLAB/Simulink.The good agreement between simulation and experiment shows that the proposed method for modeling is feasible and accurate, even under saturation. In addition, since LSSVM does not need any prior knowledge,it is much easier for modeling compared with other existing literatures. 展开更多

Results from a series of studies on the stream-wise vibration of a circular cylinder verifying Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers Standard S012-1998, Guideline for Evaluation of Flow-induced Vibration of a Cylindrical Structure in a Pipe, are summarized and discussed in this paper. Experiments were carried out in a water tunnel and in a wind tunnel using a two-dimensional cylinder model elastically supported at both ends of the cylinder and a cantilevered cylinder model with a finite span length that was elastically supported at one end. These cylinder models were allowed to vibrate with one degree of freedom in the stream-wise direction. In addition, we adopted a cantilevered cylinder model that vibrated with two degrees of freedom in both the stream-wise and cross-flow directions under the same vibration conditions as an actual thermocouple well. The value of the Scruton number (structural damping parameter) was changed over a wide range, so as to evaluate the value of the critical Scruton number that suppressed vibration of the cylinder. For the two-dimensional cylinder, two different types of stream-wise excitations appeared in the reduced velocity range of approximately half of the resonance-reduced velocity. For the stream-wise vibration in the first excitation region, due to a symmetric vortex flow, the response amplitudes were sensitive to the Scruton number, while the shedding frequency of alternating vortex flow was locked-in to half of the Strouhal number of vibrating frequency of a cylinder in the second excitation region. In addition, the effects of the aspect ratio of a cantilevered cylinder on the flow-induced vibration characteristics were clarified and compared with the results of a two-dimensional cylinder. When a cantilevered circular cylinder with a finite length vibrates with one degree of freedom in the stream-wise di-rection, it is found that acylinder with a small aspect ratio has a single excitation region, whereas a cylinder with a large aspect ratio has two excitation regions. Furthermore, the vibration mechanism of a symmetric vortex flow was investigated by installing a splitter plate in the wake to prevent shedding of alternating vortices. The vibration amplitude of acylinder with a splitter plate increased surprisingly more than the amplitude of a cylinder without a splitter plate. For a cantilevered cylinder vibrating with two degrees of freedom, the Lissajous figure of vibration of the first excitation region shows the trajectories of elongated elliptical shapes, and in the second excitation region, the Lissajous trajectories draw a figure “8”. The results and information from these experimental studies proved that Standard S012-1998 provides sufficient design methods for suppressing hazardous vibrations of cylinders in liquid flows. 展开更多

This paper presents a binary gravitational search algorithm (BGSA) is applied to solve the problem of optimal allotment of DG sets and Shunt capacitors in radial distribution systems. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained single-objective optimization problem where the total line loss (TLL) and the total voltage deviations (TVD) are to be minimized separately by incorporating optimal placement of DG units and shunt capacitors with constraints which include limits on voltage, sizes of installed capacitors and DG. This BGSA is applied on the balanced IEEE 10 Bus distribution network and the results are compared with conventional binary particle swarm optimization. 展开更多

Ayurvedic and other alternative medical practi-tioners throughout the world have been using pulse diagnosis to detect disease and the organ at distress by feeling the palpations at three close yet precise positions of the radial artery. This paper presents a robust electro-mechanical system, ‘Nadi Yantra’ which uses piezoelectric based pressure sensors to capture the signals from the radial artery. Morphology of the waveforms obtained from our system concurs with standard physiological arterial signals. Reproducibility and stability of the system has been verified. Signal processing techniques were applied to obtain features such as amplitude, power spectral density, bandpower and spectral centroid to reflect variations in signals from the three channels. Further, wavelet based techniques were used to process the pressure signals and percussion peaks were identified. The interval between the percussion peaks was used to calculate Heart Rate Varibility (HRV), a useful tool for assessing the status of the autonomic nervous system of the human body non-invasively. Time domain indices were calculated from direct measurement of peak-peak (PP) intervals and from differences between the PP intervals. Frequency domain indices such as very low frequency (VLF) power, low frequency (LF) power, high frequency (HF) power, LF/HF ratio were also calculated. Thereafter, nonlinear Poincare analysis was carried out. A map of consecutive PP intervals was fitted to an ellipse using least squares method. Results from 7 datasets are depicted in this paper. A novel pressure pulse recording instrument is deve loped for the objective assessment of the ancient sci-ence of pulse diagnosis. The features calculated using multi resolution wavelet analysis show potential in the evaluation of the autonomic nervous system of the human body. 展开更多

Experimental measurements made in this study on human and porcine eyes suggest that the resonant frequency for both cornea and sclera varies from 130 to 150 Hz and increases slightly with increasing intraocular pressure. The values of the moduli calculated using the experimental values of the thickness are close to 2 MPa. Similar values of the modulus for cornea and sclera suggest that there is very little stress concentration at the cornea-scleral junction and that any stress concentration that occurs probably resides at the scleral attachment laterally and posteriorly. These moduli are close to those measured in vivo on human skin suggesting that the mechanism of tensile deformation of skin, cornea and sclera are similar. Our results suggest that the modulus of cornea and sclera can be measured non-invasively and non-destructively using vibrational OCT. Results of these studies will assist clinicians to better understand the influence of biomechanics on the outcome of corneal refractive surgery as well as the pathogenesis of eye disorders such as glaucoma, myopia and keratoconus. 展开更多

Background: Fracture of distal radius with involvement of the ulnar styloid process is a common clinical problem. It can be treated conservatively, usually involving wrist immobilization in plaster cast or surgically. A key method of surgical fixation is external fixation by distractor. Distractor can be applied either only on the radial side or on both ulnar and radial sides. Materials and Methods: A prospective randomized and comparative study of 1 year duration was conducted on 32 patients admitted in the Department of Orthopaedics of BSMC & H in the age group of 20 to 75 years old with AO types B and C distal radius fracture along with involvement of the ulnar styloid process. The parameters studied were restoration of radial length, restoration of radial angle, intracarpal step-off and palmar tilt which were statistically evaluated and Fisher’s exact test was performed. The two tailed P-value was calculated and both the groups were statistically compared. Results: In our study, 37.5% patients in Group A and 81.25% in Group B had a radial difference Table 1, Chart 1). 43.75% patients in Group A and 87.5% in Group B had radial angle Table 2, Chart 2). 31.25% in Group A and 75% had intra carpal step off Table 3, Chart 3). 62.5% had an abnormal palmar tilt in Group A while only 6.25% had an abnormal palmar tilt in Group B which is extremely statistically significant. On an average, 2 mm of distraction was required in 75% patients of Group A while only 30% patients in Group B required distraction (Table 4, Chart 4). Conclusion: In our study, the radial difference, radial angle, intra carpal step off and palmar tilt returned significantly to normal in the patients treated with distractor on radial side only when compared with distractor application on both radial and ulnar sides for distal radius fracture with ulnar styloid process involvement. Also post-operative distraction required under image intensifier was higher in the group treated with distractor on either side than those with distractor only on radial side. 展开更多

Objective: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) via the radial artery access has more advantages than that of femoral artery access, while radial or (and) brachial artery have tendency to be spasmodic. We sought to investigate the effectiveness and safety of guiding catheter crossing over spasmodic radial or (and) brachial artery segments by the aid of PCI wire and balloon compared with traditional anti-spasmodic approach. Methods: The clinical data of 168 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) (group A), whose PCI was performed via radial artery access with radial or (and) brachial artery spasm or (and) dissection and guiding catheter passing through spasmodic segments successfully by the aid of PCI guiding wire and balloon were analyzed retrospectively, simultaneously, the other 73 patients (group B) who used conventional approach to cross over the spasmodic radial or (and) brachial artery segments were treated as the control. The success rate, the time consumption and the complication were compared between the two groups. Findings: There was no significant difference in the spasmodic site between the two groups (all p value > 0.05). The success rate in group A was significantly higher than that in group B (168(100%) vs 28 (38.4%), p (4.2%) vs 14 (19.2%), p Conclusions: It is more effective and safer for guiding catheter crossing over spasmodic or (and) dissected radial or (and) brachial artery segments by the aid of PCI guiding wire and balloon than using the routine approach of administration of anti-spasm drugs for trans-radial PCI. 展开更多

Numerical solution of a radiative radial fin with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity is presented. Calculations are implemented along the lines of a boundary integral technique coupled with domain discretization. Localized solutions of the nonlinear governing differential equation are sought on each element of the problem domain after enforcing inter-nodal connectivity as well as the boundary conditions for the dependent variables. A finite element-type assembly of the element equations and matrix solution yield the scalar profile. Comparison of the numerical results with those found in literature validates the formulation. The effects of such problem parameters as radiation-sink temperature, thermal conductivity, radiation-conduction fin parameter, volumetric heat generation, on the scalar profile were found to be in conformity with the physics of the problem. We also observed from this study that the volumetric heat generation plays a significant role in the overall heat transfer activity for a fin. For relatively high values of internal heat generation, a situation arises where a greater percentage of this energy can not escape to the environment and the fin ends up gaining energy instead of losing it. And the overall fin performance deteriorates. The same can also be said for the radiation-conduction parameter , whose increases can only give physically realistic results below a certain threshold value. 展开更多

We investigate the cross-sectional buckling of multi-concentric tubular nanomaterials, which are called multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), using an analysis based on thin-shell theory. MWNTs under hydrostatic pressure experience radial buckling. As a result of this, different buckling modes are obtained depending on the inter-tube separation d as well as the number of constituent tubes N and the innermost tube diameter. All of the buckling modes are classified into two deformation phases. In the first phase, which corresponds to an elliptic deformation, the radial stiffness increases rapidly with increasing N. In contrast, the second phase yields wavy, corrugated structures along the circumference for which the radial stiffness declines with increasing N. The hard-to-soft phase transition in radial buckling is a direct consequence of the core-shell structure of MWNTs. Special attention is devoted to how the variation in d affects the critical tube number Nc, which separates the two deformation phases observed in N -walled nanotubes, i.e., the elliptic phase for N Nc. We demonstrate that a larger d tends to result in a smaller Nc, which is attributed to the primary role of the interatomic forces between concentric tubes in the hard-to-soft transition during the radial buckling of MWNTs. 展开更多

This paper studies the problem applying Radial Basis Function Network(RBFN) which is trained by the Recursive Least Square Algorithm(RLSA) to the recognition of one dimensional images of radar targets. The equivalence between the RBFN and the estimate of Parzen window probabilistic density is proved. It is pointed out that the I/O functions in RBFN hidden units can be generalized to general Parzen window probabilistic kernel function or potential function, too. This paper discusses the effects of the shape parameter a in the RBFN and the forgotten factor A in RLSA on the results of the recognition of three kinds of kernel function such as Gaussian, triangle, double-exponential, at the same time, also discusses the relationship between A and the training time in the RBFN. 展开更多

Many animals possess actively movable tactile sensors in their heads,to explore the near-range space.During locomotion,an antenna is used in near range orientation, for example,in detecting, localizing, probing, and negotiating obstacles.A bionic tactile sensor used in the present work was inspired by the antenna of the stick insects. The sensor is able to detect an obstacle and its location in 3 D(Three dimensional) space. The vibration signals are analyzed in the frequency domain using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) to estimate the distances.Signal processing algorithms,Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and Support Vector Machine(SVM) are used for the analysis and prediction processes. These three prediction techniques are compared for both distance estimation and material classification processes. When estimating the distances, the accuracy of estimation is deteriorated towards the tip of the probe due to the change in the vibration modes.Since the vibration data within that region have high a variance, the accuracy in distance estimation and material classification are lower towards the tip.The change in vibration mode is mathematically analyzed and a solution is proposed to estimate the distance along the full range of the probe. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of presence of fluid within and around a poroelastic circular cylindrical shell of infinite extent on axially symmetric vibrations. The frequency equation each for a pervious and an impervious surface is obtained employing Biot’s theory. Radial vibrations and axially symmetric shear vibrations are uncoupled when the wavenumber is vanished. The propagation of axially symmetric shear vibrations is independent of presence of fluid within and around the poroelastic cylindrical shell while the radial vibrations are affected by the presence of fluid. The frequencies of radial vibrations and axially symmetric shear vibrations are the cut-off frequencies for the coupled motion of axially symmetric vibrations. The non-dimensional phase velocity as a function of ratio of thickness to wavelength is computed and presented graphically for two different types of poroelastic materials for thin poroelastic shell, thick poroelastic shell and poroelastic solid cylinder. 展开更多

The current investigations primarily focus on using advanced suspensions to overcome the tradeo design of ride comfort and handling performance for mining vehicles. It is generally realized by adjusting spring sti ness or damping parameters through active control methods. However, some drawbacks regarding control complexity and uncertain reliability are inevitable for these advanced suspensions. Herein, a novel passive hydraulically interconnected suspension(HIS) system is proposed to achieve an improved ride-handling compromise of mining vehicles. A lumped-mass vehicle model involved with a mechanical–hydraulic coupled system is developed by applying the free-body diagram method. The transfer matrix method is used to derive the impedance of the hydraulic system, and the impedance is integrated to form the equation of motions for a mechanical–hydraulic coupled system. The modal analysis method is employed to obtain the free vibration transmissibilities and force vibration responses under di erent road excitations. A series of frequency characteristic analyses are presented to evaluate the isolation vibration performance between the mining vehicles with the proposed HIS and the conventional suspension. The analysis results prove that the proposed HIS system can e ectively suppress the pitch motion of sprung mass to guarantee the handling performance, and favorably provide soft bounce sti ness to improve the ride comfort. The distribution of dynamic forces between the front and rear wheels is more reasonable, and the vibration decay rate of sprung mass is increased e ectively. This research proposes a new suspension design method that can achieve the enhanced cooperative control of bounce and pitch motion modes to improve the ride comfort and handling performance of mining vehicles as an e ective passive suspension system. 展开更多

On the basis of the thin-shell theory and on the use of the transfer matrix approach, this paper presents the vibrational response and buckling analysis of three-lobed cross-section cylindrical shells, with circumferentially varying thickness, subjected to uniform axial membrane loads. A Fourier approach is used to separate the variables, and the governing equations of the shell are formulated in terms of eight first-order differential equations in the circumferential coordinate, and by using the transfer matrix of the shell, these equations are written in a matrix differential equation. The transfer matrix is derived from the non-linear differential equations of the cylindrical shells with variable thickness by introducing the trigonometric series in the longitudinal direction and applying a numerical integration in the circumferential direction. The natural frequencies and critical loads beside the mode shapes are calculated numerically in terms of the transfer matrix elements for the symmetrical and antisymmetrical vibration modes.
