Revenue management method and critical techniques of railway passenger transport

Purpose–Revenue management(RM)is a significant technique to improve revenue with limited resources.With the macro environment of dramatically increasing transit capacity and rapid railway transport development in China,it is necessary to involve the theory of RM into the operation and decision of railway passenger transport.Design/methodology/approach–This paper proposes the theory and framework of generalized RM of railway passenger transport(RMRPT),and the thoughts and methods of the main techniques in RMRPT,involving demand forecasting,line planning,inventory control,pricing strategies and information systems,are all studied and elaborated.The involved methods and techniques provide a sequential process to help with the decision-making for each stage of RMRPT.The corresponding techniques are integrated into the information system to support practical businesses in railway passenger transport.Findings–The combination of the whole techniques devotes to railway benefit improvement and transit resource utilization and has been applied into the practical operation and organization of railway passenger transport.Originality/value–The development of RMRPT would provide theoretical and technical support for the improvement of service quality as well as railway benefits and efficiency.

Influence of wind-blown sand content on the mechanical quality state of ballast bed in sandy railways

During the operation of sandy railways, the challenge posed by wind-blown sand is a persistent issue. An in-depth study on the influence of wind-blown sand content on the macroscopic and microscopic mechanical properties of the ballast bed is of great significance for understanding the potential problems of sandy railways and proposing reasonable and adequate maintenance and repair strategies. Building upon existing research, this study proposes a new assessment indicator for sand content. Utilizing the discrete element method(DEM) and fully considering the complex interactions between ballast and sand particles, three-dimensional(3D) multi-scale analysis models of sandy ballast beds with different wind-blown sand contents are established and validated through field experiments. The effects of varying wind-blown sand content on the microscopic contact distribution and macroscopic mechanical behavior(such as resistance and support stiffness) of ballast beds are carefully analyzed. The results show that with the increase in sand content, the average contact force and coordination number between ballast particles gradually decrease, and the disparity in contact forces between different layers of the ballast bed diminishes. The longitudinal and lateral resistance of the ballast bed initially decreases and then increases, with a critical point at 10% sand content. At 15% sand content, the lateral resistance is mainly shared by the ballast shoulder. The longitudinal resistance sharing ratio is always the largest on the sleeper side, followed by that at the sleeper bottom, and the smallest on the ballast shoulder. When the sand content exceeds 10%, the contribution of sand particles to stiffness significantly increases, leading to an accelerated growth rate of the overall support stiffness of the ballast bed, which is highly detrimental to the long-term service performance of the ballast bed. In conclusion, it is recommended that maintenance and repair operations should be promptly conducted when the sand content of the ballast bed reaches or exceeds 10%.

Research on safety control technology of high-speed railway combined test based on threatening event analysis

Purpose–Safety management is a key point and poses a challenge in joint testing.To detect and address potential accidents’hidden dangers early,this paper conducts research on the safety control technology for high-speed railway joint tests by incorporating the concept of hazardous events.Design/methodology/approach–Aiming at ensuring the safety of high-speed railway combined inspections and trials,this paper starts from the dual prevention mechanism.It introduces the concept of threatening events,defines them and analyzes the differences between threatening events and railway accidents.The paper also proposes a cause model for threatening events in high-speed railway combined inspections and trials,based on three types of hazard sources.Furthermore,it conducts research on the control strategies for these threatening events.Findings–The research on safety control technology for high-speed railway combined operation and testing,based on the analysis of threatened events,offers a new perspective for safety management in these operations.It also provides theoretical and practical support for the transition from passive prevention to active risk pre-control,which holds significant theoretical and practical value.Originality/value–The innovation mainly includes the following three aspects:(1)Building on the traditional dual prevention mechanism,which includes risk hierarchical management and control as well as hidden danger investigation and management,a triple prevention mechanism is proposed.This new mechanism adds the management of threatening events as the third line of defense.The aim is to more comprehensively identify and address potential security risks,thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of security management.(2)In this paper,the definition of a railway threatening event is clarified,and the causative model of a high-speed railway threatening event based on three kinds of danger sources is proposed.(3)This paper puts forward the control strategy of the high-speed railway combined operation and trial,which includes five key links:identification,reporting,analysis,rectification and feedback,which provides a new perspective for the safety management of the high-speed railway combined operation and trial and has important theoretical and application value.

Study on the "Going out" Strategy in Reform of the Supply Front for Agriculture

The three rural issues have been always valued by all circles. At present,the main conflict of agriculture in China has been changed from insufficient total amount to structural conflict. Thus,deeply promoting the reform of agricultural supply front has become a primary work in rural areas. It is required to follow the national grain security strategy based on domestic supply and moderate imports,to ensure production capacity. Besides,China should make full use of domestic and foreign markets and resources to protect the domestic agricultural consumption demand,which is favorable for resolving the current structural conflict and also favorable for sustainable agricultural development.

＂Going Global＂ Strategies of Chinese Culture from the Audience＇ s Perspective

This paper revealed American students'interest in Chinese culture potentially due to China's recent development.Moreover,participants reported that understanding Chinese culture would broaden their perspective to include customs which were perceived as quite different from their own.Unsurprisingly,all of the participants were interested in superficial experiences with Chinese culture,like eating Chinese food.More than half of the participants indicated a desire to visit historical sites,such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.Half of the participants would like to travel in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai,if they were to visit China.Not a few of Chinese descendants were eager to go to China for tracing roots.According to the results of the research,some"going global"strategies of Chinese culture were provided.The results may impact on Chinese culture's"going global"trend and offer support to the spread of Chinese culture.

In spite of its acknowledged achievements and contributions in recent years,it is still necessary to review the diplomacy of Chinese culture going global.Approached from the perspective of cognition and affection,the main reason leading to the low efficiency of Chinese official cross-cultural communication is that the collectivism implied in the governmental institutes is in conflict with the individualism schema in Western mainstream discourse,making it difficult to invoke empathy from Western audience.By contrast,some popular culture spread through the Internet is empathy-provoking only because it contains two schemata of nostalgia and individualism that have been embedded in many Western netizens’cognition.In other words,popular culture has little communicating power to transmit the essence of Chinese culture.Given the limitations of these two ways,China should at least make adjustments on four aspects to improve the effect of its culture going out:(1)integrate more mutually shared schemata into the selected Chinese culture;(2)modernize the cultural contents and transmission methods;(3)reduce the role of the government and insist on diversifying and individualizing communication subjects;(4)encourage the creation of fine culture.

基于GO-FLOW方法的转辙机部件预防性维修策略研究

为解决目前转辙机因采用固定时间间隔的预防性维修导致的维修资源浪费及潜在人为失误造成的安全隐患,提出一种基于GO-FLOW方法的转辙机部件预防性维修策略;依据转辙机的组成结构和工作流程,建立转辙机GO-FLOW模型,在设备整体可靠性约束下,利用故障统计数据,计算在不同服役时间段内转辙机主要部件的可靠度,据此确定维修时间间隔变化的转辙机部件预防性维修方案,以实施针对性维修,更好地平衡维修经济性和安全性。

Study on Urbanization Development Strategy along Wuhan to Xianning Intercity Rail

As the development of＂two-oriented society＂ in Wuhan urban agglomeration, the intercity railway will be an important way of driving the development of urbanization in Wuhan urban agglomeration. Intercity railway shortens the time in traffic between surrounding cities of Wuhan and it brings a lot of people, materials and information. It has also brought opportunities and challenges to the areas along intercity railway. The question is how to seize the development opportunities and coordinate the contradiction between development and environmental protection, and taking a new type urbanization. The paper, studying on the areas along Wuhan to Xianning intercity railway, made a summary of the objective law of urbanization and the influence to the along areas by the intercity railway, meanwhile, had experienced from the developed areas which along the intercity railway both in China and abroad. Then the paper proposed the urbanization development strategy from the aspect of land use, industry, population and transportation on the basis of analysis to be economic base and development conditions of the areas.
