To promote the application of AM in aerospace and other engineering fields, developing a fatigue strength evaluation method suitable for AM materials based on their unique fatigue behaviours and fatigue life distributions is necessary. In this paper, a novel Detail Fatigue Rating(DFR) method was developed to evaluate the fatigue strength of DED Ti-6.5Al-2Zr-1Mo-1V based on a bimodal Weibull distribution and the excessive restriction on the allowable stress of potential was improved. Meanwhile, a Bimodal Weibull distribution model for fatigue life and its parameter estimation method were established based on a twoparameter Weibull distribution. The fatigue life at a specific reliability level and confidence level was calculated by using the bootstrap method. The calculation results showed that fatigue life estimated by using the bimodal Weibull distribution at the high reliability level and high confidence level is higher than that estimated by using the two-parameter Weibull distribution. Furthermore,The S-N curve at the specified confidence level and reliability level was fitted.展开更多

To get a clearer topological configuration, by introducing the discrete condition of topological variables and integrating with the original objective, an optimal model with multi-objectives is formulated to make the topological variables approach 0 or 1 as near as possible, and the model reduces the effect of deleting rate on the result. The image-filtering method is employed to eliminate the checkerboard patterns and mesh dependence that occurred in the topology optimization of a continuum structure. The computational efficiency is enhanced through selecting quasi-active displacement constraints and a design region. Numerical examples indicate that this algorithm is robust and practicable, though the number of iterations is slightly increased with respect to the original algorithm.展开更多

However, the settlement located on a hill with steep hillsides has suffered from rockfall events, causing the destruction of some historical buildings. The rockfall risk in the region continues to create a serious danger today for land users and visitors during uncontrolled tourist visits. This paper offers an assessment of rockfall hazard for the ancient Kilistra settlement based on experimental investigation and numerical analyses. For the study, comprehensive field studies were carried out, including the identification of slope profiles, scanline surveys on discontinuities and stability analysis of the slopes. The location and size of the fallen, detached and hanging blocks were also identified. Geomechanical properties of the geological units were determined, and also the rockfall risk rating method was applied for the evaluation of the rockfall hazard risk. Runout distance, bounce height, kinetic energy as well as the velocity of the detached and hanging blocks were determined by using twodimensional rockfall analyses. Based on the results from the rockfall analyses, possible rockfall-based danger zones have been defined for the ancient Kilistra settlement and its close vicinity. High slope angle, weathering, dense rainfalls, and anthropogenic impacts are generally reported as the most important triggering factors in the region. Following the portal slope excavations in the entrance section of Cankurtaran tunnel, located in the region, where the highly weathered andesitic tuff crops out, a circular toe failure occurred. The main target of the present study is to investigate the causes and occurrence mechanism of this failure and to determine the feasible remedial measures against it using finite element method(FEM) in four stages. These stages are slope stability analyses for pre-and postexcavation cases, and remediation design assessments for slope and tunnel. The results of the FEM-SSR analyses indicated that the insufficient initial support design and weathering of the andesitic tuffs are the main factors that caused the portal failure. After installing a rock retaining wall with jet grout columns and reinforced slope benching applications, the factor of safety increased from 0.83 to 2.80. In addition toslope stability evaluation, the Rock Mass Rating(RMR), Rock Mass Quality(Q) and New Austrian Tunneling Method(NATM) systems were also utilized as empirical methods to characterize the tunnel ground and to determine the tunnel support design. The performance of the suggested empirical support design, induced stress distributions and deformations were analyzed by means of numerical modelling. Finally, it was concluded that the recommended stabilization technique was essential for the dynamic long-term stability and prevents the effects of failure. Additionally, the FEM method gives useful and reasonably reliable results in evaluating the stability of cut slopes and tunnels excavated both in continuous and discontinuous rock masses.展开更多

PCE was estimated based on the assumption that the rate at which a queue of vehicles clears the intersection is a function of its composition. Results of this method were compared with the results estimated by some popular techniques. A fourqegged intersection was simulated in VISSIM software and different techniques were used to convert the traffic mix into a uniform one. Parameters of VISSIM were modified to closely reflect the traffic behaviour under heterogeneous traffic conditions. All approaches of the intersection were loaded to saturated conditions and accuracy of estimated PCEs were established by comparing converted flow (PCE/h) with the capacity of an all-car traffic stream. Method based on saturation flow delivered the best result, but its use was limited to traffic composed only of two types of vehicles. Results of regression and optimization techniques were almost similar and the converted flow was close to the capacity of all-car stream. However, accuracy of these methods strongly relied on the correct measurement of saturation flow. Queue clearance rate method did not require value of saturation flow and yielded good estimates of PCE throughout the simu- lation runs. The maximum difference between the converted flow and capacity estimated with all car situations was found to be less than 10% in all cases considered in this study.展开更多

This study focused on bacterial growth dynamics in the series dilution of water samples with TOC(total organic carbon) values determined beforehand. The results showed that the specific growth rate of Pseudomonas fluorescens P17 varied dramatically and irregularly with TOC value when TOC concentrations were low enough during the initial periods of incubation under given conditions. According to this relationship between bacterial growth rate and TOC, a dilution incubation method was designed for the study of water biostability. With the method under a given condition, a turning-point TOC value was found at a relatively fixed point in the curve between bacterial growth rate and TOC of water sample, and the variation of growth rate had different characteristics below the turning-point TOC value relative to that over this value. A turning-point TOC value similarly existed in all experiments not only with tap water, but also with acetate and mixed solutions. And in the dilution incubation method study, the affections were analyzed by condition factors such as inoculum amount, incubation time and nature of the organic carbon source. In very low organic carbon water environments, the variation characteristics of bacterial growth rate will be useful to further understand the meaning of water biostability.展开更多

This paper discusses and estimates the ecological water requirements (EWRs) of typical areas in the Huaihe Basin to determine rational allocations of water resources and pro- mote regional improvements of the ecological environment. The main river course, including Hongze Lake and Nansi Lake, was selected as the study subject. Calculational methods for the river and lake EWRs were based on the reasonableness of the results and data availability. The monthly guarantee rate method was used to calculate monthly, flood period, non-flood period, and annual EWRs for the main river course and the main tributaries at two different guarantee rates. The minimum water level method was used to calculate annual EWRs for Hongze Lake and the upper and lower Nansi Lake of 1.521×10^9 m^3, 0.637×10^9 m^3, and 0.306×10^9 m^3. The results were used to evaluate the rationality of the quantity of water resources allocated to ecological uses in the Huaihe Basin during 1998-2003. The result shows that the present water resource allocations in the Huaihe Basin cannot satisfy the basic ecological requirements for some years, especially years with less precipitation.展开更多

The maximum difference between the converted flow and capacity estimated with all car situations was found to be less than 10% in all cases considered in this study.

文摘Water biostability is of particular concern to water supply as a major limiting factor for heterotrophic bacterial growth in water distribution systems. In very low organic carbon water environments, the variation characteristics of bacterial growth rate will be useful to further understand the meaning of water biostability.

文摘Aquatic ecosystems require ecological water allocation to prevent from being damaged by natural disasters and undue exploitation. The result shows that the present water resource allocations in the Huaihe Basin cannot satisfy the basic ecological requirements for some years, especially years with less precipitation.
