Highly reliable and selective ethanol sensor based on α-Fe2O3 nanorhombs working in realistic environments

A highly reliable and selective ethanol gas sensor working in realistic environments based on alpha-Fe2O3(α-Fe2O3)nanorhombs is developed. The sensor is fabricated by integrating α-Fe2O3 nanorhombs onto a low power microheater based on micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS) technology. The α-Fe2O3 nanorhombs, prepared via a solvothermal method, is characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM), Raman spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction(XRD), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The sensing performances of the α-Fe2O3 sensor to various toxic gases are investigated. The optimum sensing temperature is found to be about 280℃. The sensor shows excellent selectivity to ethanol.For various ethanol concentrations(1 ppm-20 ppm), the response and recovery times are around 3 s and 15 s at the working temperature of 280℃, respectively. Specifically, the α-Fe2O3 sensor exhibits a response shift less than 6% to ethanol at280℃ when the relative humidity(RH) increases from 30% to 70%. The good tolerance to humidity variation makes the sensor suitable for reliable applications in Internet of Things(IoT) in realistic environments. In addition, the sensor shows great long-term repeatability and stability towards ethanol. A possible gas sensing mechanism is proposed.

A Realistic Model for Observing Spin-Balanced Fulde-Ferrell Superfluid in Honeycomb Lattices

The combination of spin-orbit coupling （SOC） and in-plane Zeeman field breaks time-reversal and inversion symmetries of Fermi gases and becomes a popular way to produce single plane wave Fulde-Ferrell （FF） superfluid. However, atom loss and heating related to SOC have impeded the successful observation of FF state until now. In this work, we propose the realization of spin-balanced FF superfluid in a honeycomb lattice without SOC and the Zeeman field. A key ingredient of our scheme is generating complex hopping terms in original honeycomb lattices by periodical driving. In our model the ground state is always the FF state, thus the experimental observation has no need of fine tuning. The other advantages of our scheme are its simplicity and feasibility, and thus may open a new route for observing FF superfluids.

A REALISTIC MODEL OF NEURAL NETWORKS

A realistic model of neural networks was proposed in this paper.The dynamicprocess of neural impulse discharging was considered.The equations of the model correspondto postsynaptic potentials,receptor potentials,initial segment graded potentials and the impulsetrain along the axon respectively.To solve the equations numerically,a recurrent algorithm and itscorresponding flow chart was also developed.The simulation results can imitate adaptation,post-excitation inhibition,and phase locking of sensory receptors;they can also imitate the transientresponses of lateral inhibitory network and Mach band phenomenon when they trended to besteady.The simulation results also showed that the lateral inhibitory network was sensitive tomoving objects.

Comparison between Equivalent Charge Model and Equivalent Dipole Model on Realistic Head Model

Equivalent source layer （ESL） imaging is an important kind of high-resolution electro- encephalogram （EEG） imaging. It consists of two categories： equivalent dipole layer （EDL） and equivalent charge layer （ECL）. Both of them are assumed to be located on or near the cortical surface and have been proposed as high-resolution imaging modalities or as intermediate steps to estimate the epicortical potential. Here, EDL and ECL based on a realistic head model are presented, both simulations and real data experiment are done to compare these two models. The results show that ECL can provide higher spatial resolution about source location than EDL does.

Through the analysis of the STL file format, in VC＋＋6.0 programming environment, class if stream in the standard IO library was used for object class definition. Theoretical efficiency limit and realistic losses of indoor organic and perovskite photovoltaics [Invited]

Indoor organic and perovskite photovoltaics(PVs)have been attracting great interest in recent years.The theoretical limit of indoor PVs has been calculated based on the detailed balance method developed by Shockley–Queisser.However,realistic losses of the organic and perovskite PVs under indoor illumination are to be understood for further efficiency improvement.In this work,the efficiency limit of indoor PVs is calculated to 55.33%under indoor illumination(2700 K,1000 lux)when the bandgap(E_(g))of the semiconductor is 1.77 eV.The efficiency limit was obtained on the basis of assuming 100%photovoltaic external quantum efficiency(EQ_(EPV))when E≥E_(g),there was no nonradiative recombination,and there were no resistance losses.In reality,the maximum EQEPV reported in the literature is 0.80–0.90.The proportion of radiative recombination in realistic devices is only 10^(−5)–10^(−2),which causes the open-circuit voltage loss(ΔV_(loss))of 0.12–0.3 V.The fill factor(FF)of the indoor PVs is sensitive to the shunt resistance(R_(sh)).The realistic losses of EQE_(PV),nonradiative recombination,and resistance cause the large efficiency gap between the realistic values(excellent perovskite indoor PV,32.4%;superior organic indoor PV,30.2%)and the theoretical limit of 55.33%.In reality,it is feasible to reach the efficiency of 47.4%at 1.77 eV for organic and perovskite photovoltaics under indoor light(1000 lux,2700 K)with V_(OC)=1.299 V,J_(SC)=125.33μA/cm^(2),and FF=0.903 when EQE_(PV)=0.9,EQE_(EL)=10^(−1),R_(s)=0.5Ωcm^(2),and R_(sh)=10^(4) kΩcm^(2).

Interictal Electrophysiological Source Imaging Based on Realistic Epilepsy Head Model in Presurgical Evaluation:A Prospective Study

Invasive techniques are becoming increasingly important in the presurgical evaluation of epilepsy.Adopting the electrophysiological source imaging(ESI)of interictal scalp electroencephalography(EEG)to localize the epileptogenic zone remains a challenge.The accuracy of the preoperative localization of the epileptogenic zone is key to curing epilepsy.The T1 MRI and the boundary element method were used to build the realistic head model.To solve the inverse problem,the distributed inverse solution and equivalent current dipole(ECD)methods were employed to locate the epileptogenic zone.Furthermore,a combination of inverse solution algorithms and Granger causality connectivity measures was evaluated.The ECD method exhibited excellent focalization in lateralization and localization,achieving a coincidence rate of 99.02%(p<0.05)with the stereo electroencephalogram.The combination of ECD and the directed transfer function led to excellent matching between the information flow obtained from intracranial and scalp EEG recordings.The ECD inverse solution method showed the highest performance and could extract the discharge information at the cortex level from noninvasive low-density EEG data.Thus,the accurate preoperative localization of the epileptogenic zone could reduce the number of intracranial electrode implantations required.

MetaCity: An Edge Emulator with the Feature of Realistic Geospatial Support for Urban Computing

The edge computing paradigm is an important supplement to the traditional cloud computing paradigm in current IoT application scenarios.However,edge computing is highly related to a specific application scenario,in which the mobility of edge devices and the geographical distribution of edge infrastructure are strongly correlated.However,it is expensive to deploy the solution in the real world and most current edge computing emulators lack realistic scenario support and mobility support.Therefore,it is challenging to evaluate whether an edge infrastructure deployment solution can satisfy the QoS(Quality-of-Service)requirement of an edge application in a cost-effective manner.In this paper,we propose and implement an edge emulator,MetaCity,which is able to effectively enforce edge computing policies and construct realistic application scenarios.MetaCity can leverage geographical data to establish an emulation environment according to the realistic infrastructure deployment strategy and emulate the mobility process of edge devices based on the actual urban road network.MetaCity can also provide an extensible network QoS monitoring module that supports the concurrent execution of various QoS monitoring in an emulated environment.In addition,MetaCity provides a user-friendly web-based graphical user interface instead of text-based configuration files.For evaluation,three smart transportation-based experiments are conducted to validate the functionality,scalability,and emulation accuracy of MetaCity.
