Utilization of recycled solid waste as ecological reclamation materials based on plant growth experiments and soil quality analysis

During the highway construction,a large number of spoil areas will be generated while a large amount of waste slag and soil could not be rationally utilized.Besides,the vegetation recovery is slow in the spoil areas due to the soil depletion.Aiming at recycling the solid waste,the sieved engineering waste slag with local red clay and corn straw biochar was supplied to solve the problem of insufficient nutrients in engineering waste slag and soil.In addition,planting experiments of alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.)and Amorpha fruticosa L.combined with physical and chemical experiments were carried out to prove the feasibility of the novel improved substrate for the reclamation of spoil areas.The results show that the substrate's improvement effect is mainly affected by the soil to slag ratio and the biochar content.The improvement effect of soil matrix in highway spoil area decreases with the increase of the waste slag content,especially when the soil-slag ratio is less than 3,and the promotion of plants is limited.On the contrary,the improvement effect is proportional to the biochar content(3%-8%).But it is noted that the Cu and Pb in the soil will exceed the clean limit corresponding to the Nemero soil pollution index level when the biochar content is 8%.Therefore,it is recommended that the soil-slag ratio should be≥3,and the biochar content should reach 3%-5%.This research provides experimental basis and technical support for utilizing solid waste resources in the reclamation of highway spoil areas. 展开更多

It is well known that the mining industry produces a large amount of derelict land, and causes pollution of water loss and soil erosion as well as other environmental damage in China. As land is under pressure in China, it is now policy to restore or reclaim land despoiled by mining, the aim being to develop sustainable and healthy arable land ecosystems. This paper outlines the principles and approaches of ecological restoration, which have been adopted in Shanxi Province with reference to three typical surface mines. In the research, the principles of ecological engineering and ecological succession are considered as the critical theories of ecological restoration in mine degraded land. Meanwhile, the paper made a comparative research on main links of ecological rebuilding in three surface mines in Shanxi Province, which include new land construction, treatment of toxic substances, control of soil erosion, fertility management, irrigation, ecological planning and the establishment of legislation systems. As the research demonstrated, for successful restoration, new land construction is the fundamental framework, but it must be integrated with ecological engineering including ecological planning, the control of soil erosion and vegetation establishment and ecosystem creation in order to optimise land productivity and soil fertility. In addition, the establishment of the legislation systems and organization of administration are also indispensable aspects of ecological rebuilding in mined land. 展开更多

Understanding the connotation and principles of ecological compensation in water source reserve areas is the basis and guarantee for establishing and improving the ecological compensation mechanism of water source reserve areas.First,this paper reviews the three stages of ecological compensation research progress.Based on the review,using the theory of externality,the ecological environment system of water source reserve areas is then analyzed.This paper argues that the connotation of ecological compensation in water source reserve areas is a kind of institutional arrangement,which is designed to internalize externalities.Finally,based on the understanding of the connotation of ecological compensation in water source reserve areas,five principles for establishing and improving the ecological compensation mechanism are proposed,including the principle of fairness and justice,the principle of equivalence of equality and responsibility,the principle of flexibility and effectiveness,the principle of "earmark funds,and implementation by law," and the principle of government compensation supplemented with market compensation. 展开更多

The agro-pastoral ecotone has been recognized as the main distribution area of reserved land resource for cultivation. Accordingly, clarifying this assumption, as well as concerting land reclamation and ecological restoration, is important to ensure food security and environmental improvement in the agro-pastoral ecotone. We selected Horqin Left Back Banner(HLBB) as the subject of our case study. The landscape ecological security pattern of this area was determined using the minimum cumulative resistance model. Over-cultivation, quantity of reserved land resource for cultivation, and changes in landscape indexes before and after land use adjustment were then analyzed. Over-cultivation is a serious problem in the agro-pastoral ecotone. Reserved land resource for cultivation is less than that considered previously, and the area of reserved land resource for cultivation in HLBB only accounts for 11.50% of total uncultivated land. With regard to changes in landscape indexes, the adjusted land use pattern is effective for anti-desertification. The compensation standard for abandoned cultivated land should be improved and the comprehensive results of ‘Grain for Green' should be evaluated to further implement ecological restoration in the agro-pastoral ecotone. 展开更多

An ecological optimization project(semi-closed reclamation project)was implemented to control the invasion of Spartina alterniflora,and optimize the habitat of the Chongming Dongtan wetland,in the Changjiang(Yangtze)River Estuary.After project implementation,a macrobenthic ecological survey was conducted in a natural tidal flat and a semi-closed reclamation restoration area within the Chongming Dongtan wetland from 2019 to 2020.Compared with historical data before reclamation,findings showed that the groups,numbers,and species diversity of the macrobenthos increased significantly,and the ecological optimization project resulted in good ecological benefits.In addition,compared to the natural tidal flat,the number of collected macrobenthic phyla,and the macrobenthic density and biomass were significantly lower in the restoration area.Furthermore,the biodiversity index and functional redundancy of natural tidal flats were generally higher,indicating that the community composition and function of natural tidal flats were relatively more stable.Even though the species composition differed between a number of restoration areas and natural tidal flats,there was no difference in functional diversity,indicating that the effect of restoring ecological functions in restoration areas was optimal.Among them,the biodiversity and functional redundancy of Site S2 were significantly reduced,and the ecosystem function was extremely unstable.Habitat heterogeneity,vegetation community and decreasing salinity were the main factors that affected the ecological functions of macrobenthos.The ecological quality was also evaluated;the Transects N3 and N4 showed good quality.The overall ecological quality of the restoration area was generally high,but that of Site S2 was poor and that of Site S2E was merely good,which was mainly due to modifications of the ecological function of macrobenthos.It is suggested that reeds mowing and freshwater species release should be adopted in restoration areas to improve the community function and the environmental disturbance resistance of the macrobenthos. 展开更多

The related advanced experience abroad is summarized from mainly four aspects, namely policy, system as well as subject development, planning guidance, design method of project planning and engineering study, and practical countermeasures to China's ecological environment construction in land reclamation are proposed. In terms of policy, system and subject, relevant regulations, policies and system construction should be strengthened and the framework of policy, system and subject development in ecological landscape construction of China's land reclamation should be proposed, integrating ecological environment construction into land reclamation. At the level of strategic planning, the spatial layout and construction key points of green infrastructure in land reclamation of "urban multi-functional developing region, eastern economic developed region, central modern agricultural region and northwestern ecological fragile region" should be achieved. At the level of project planning design, ecological principles, sustainable landscape design principles and vernacular landscape design methods are to be integrated into the planning procedure to form operable technique regulations or introductions. At the level of engineering design, engineering technique system, standards and regulations of ditches, roads, forests and channels with local distinctions should be formulated according to the characters and strategic demands of urbanization, industrialization, agriculture modernization and ecological environment preservation in different regions. 展开更多

In this paper, the design principles for ecological revetments and the factors that need to be considered in the selection of revetment plants were summarized; and the types of ecological revetments commonly used in water conservancy projects were summarized and classified according to the proportion of natural materials in revetment materials through domestic and foreign research and engineering examples, and their applicable scope and relevant merits were introduced. Based on the analyses of the character of the exploitation of the iron ore resource and its destruction of eco-environment in Tangshan area, this paper puts forward the patterns of land reclamation which fits for this area. The patterns include the reclamation of ecological agriculture, planting directly on the tailing bin without covering soil, reclamation of mine tailings in the pool, and improvement of the soil quality by using tailings etc. Now, over 700hm^2 land has been reclaimed by taking advantage of the pattern in Tangshan and eight typical reclamation districts have been built. The rates of reclamation exceed 80% and have reached the advanced level of the world. Practice has proved that the eco-environment of the ore area has been greatly improved and the remarkable economic and social benefits have been gained. 展开更多

The test panels have been set for one year in the waters of Daguanban reclamation area of Luoyuan Bay to investigate the ecology of fouling community. 39 species of animals and 8 species of algae have been recorded during the investigation. The main period of settlement extends from May to October. The peak periods of biomass and covered area rate of the panels have been observed from Juneto September Balanus reticulatus, Bugula neritina, Molgula manhattensis, Tubularia mesembryanthemun and Enteromopha interstinalis are the dominant species in the fouling community. Species diversity index, species richness, species evenness and environmental factors are determined, the results of which indicate that water flow speed is the most important factor influencing the species and quantity composition of the fouling community.As to the mariculture production in the reclamation area, the main harmful period ranges from June to September. 展开更多

From the analysis on the problem of selection, data acquisition, quantification and accuracy check in the indicators to desertification degree both at home and abroad, one might conclude that in the existing assessment of desertification degree there is a prevailing tendency which is the substitution of absolute landscape for relative land degradation, namely, assessment of desertification degree is that of absolute landscape state to some extent. As a result the reassessment accuracy of desertification scope, damaging degree and control effect are affected. The regaining and establishment of the initial and final ecological datum level of land degradation are the prerequisite to the establishment of normal scientific indicator system. From the viewpoint of this three design principles of indicators to the desertification degree are put forward: the zonal principle of indicator systems decided by the ecological datum level corresponding to their bioclimatic zones, the hierarchical principle of indicator systems decided by different spatial scales and the resolutions of different sensors and principle of landscape types based on the 3S as core-indicator. 展开更多

Over the past several decades,large scale of tidal flat reclamation developed fast along the Chinese coastline.Tidal flat reclamation can earn profits for local economy but also produce significant negative influences on marine ecosystems.By using relative indexes of landscape science,this article makes quantitative research on reclamation indexes of Zhejiang Province,China from1990to2000in a macro-region perspective,and the results shows that:(1)within20years,the total area of reclamation in Zhejiang Province had reached108760ha,and the reclamation area of Ningbo city was the largest while Jiaxing city is the smallest;(2)the patch area,quantity,density and variable coefficients of all types of lands were markedly different,and lands in different regions also differed distinctly;(3)average form index and fragmentation index of patch of lands of different types and functions were positively correlated,and the indexes of Taizhou city and Ningbo city were relatively high while Jiaxing city and Shaoxing city were lower;(4)under the influence of factors like topographic conditions,develop needs,human activities and so on,the degree of aggregation of the types of reclamation was relatively high;(5)because of the differences in reclamation area,coast length,land type and so on,the average intensity index and diversity index of the all coastal cities were different distinctly. 展开更多

在实现“碳达峰与碳中和”目标的背景下,煤炭作为国家能源安全的基石,其绿色开发对我国经济建设和社会发展起到了至关重要的作用。然而,在煤矿开采及分选加工过程中,煤矸石作为煤炭主要伴生副产物,已成为我国急需处理的大宗固废之首。然... 在实现“碳达峰与碳中和”目标的背景下,煤炭作为国家能源安全的基石,其绿色开发对我国经济建设和社会发展起到了至关重要的作用。然而,在煤矿开采及分选加工过程中,煤矸石作为煤炭主要伴生副产物,已成为我国急需处理的大宗固废之首。然而,目前煤矸石的综合利用率仍处于较低水平,尚未形成较为规范可行的研究体系。因此,针对煤矿开采与煤矸石堆积所造成的水、大气与土壤环境污染问题,通过煤矸石在生产能源、有价金属回收、建筑材料生产与其他方向的资源化利用的相关研究进展,结合煤矸石在防止重金属污染、土壤修复、防止水土流失等方面的应用,最后提出了煤矸石资源化利用未来的发展方向,根据整体进行规划与资源整合,不仅有大量用于常规目的的煤矸石资源化利用方向,同时还有用于生产高附加值产品的特殊用途,通过两者相结合,实现煤矸石的综合化和资源化利用,为其“减量化、资源化、循环化”发展提供借鉴。总之,煤矸石资源化利用是我国煤炭产业转型升级的重要方向,也是实现绿色可持续发展的必由之路。只有通过不懈的努力和持续的创新,才能更好地解决煤矸石堆积问题,推动煤矸石资源化利用向更加高效、环保、可持续的方向发展,为我国经济社会可持续发展做出更大的贡献。 展开更多

Today’s water infrastructures are the outcome of an industrial revolution-based design that are now at odds with the current sustainability paradigm.The goal of this study was to develop a vision for engineering sustainable water infrastructures.A list of 99 ecological design principles was compiled from eleven authors and grouped into three themes:(1)human dimension,(2)learning from nature(biomimicry),and(3)integrating nature.The biomimicry concept was further divided into six sub-themes;(1)complex system properties,(2)energy source,(3)scale,(4)mass and energy flows,(5)structure,and function,and(6)diversity and cooperation.The implications of these concepts on water infrastructure design suggested that water infrastructure should be conceptualized in a more holistic way by not only considering water supply,treatment,and storm water management services,but also integrating into the design problem other provisioning,regulating,cultural,and supporting ecosystem services.A decentralized approach for this integration and innovation in adaptive design are necessary to develop resilient and energy efficient water infrastructures. 展开更多

科学揭示不同复垦模式土壤细菌群落稳定性及其潜在互作关系对于复垦土地差异化管理及可持续利用至关重要。本文以挖深垫浅、煤矸石充填和粉煤灰充填3种模式复垦土壤为研究对象,基于高通量Illumina Miseq 16S rRNA测序技术,采用方差分析... 科学揭示不同复垦模式土壤细菌群落稳定性及其潜在互作关系对于复垦土地差异化管理及可持续利用至关重要。本文以挖深垫浅、煤矸石充填和粉煤灰充填3种模式复垦土壤为研究对象,基于高通量Illumina Miseq 16S rRNA测序技术,采用方差分析、Spearman相关性等分析方法,研究不同复垦模式下的土壤细菌群落结构和多样性。通过构建分子生态网络模型,揭示不同复垦模式下土壤细菌群落的稳定性及菌群间潜在互作关系,明晰对细菌群落结构稳定性起关键作用的微生物种群。结果表明:①不同复垦模式土壤细菌群落的多样性与丰富度水平有显著差异(P<0.05),均表现为挖深垫浅>煤矸石充填>粉煤灰充填;不同复垦模式土壤细菌群落组成相似,变形菌门、酸杆菌门、放线菌门和拟杆菌门是所有模式土壤中的优势菌门,在各复垦模式土壤细菌群落中的占比之和均达70%以上。②不同复垦模式下土壤细菌群落的显著影响因子不同,部分优势细菌门与影响因子间的变化趋势不同,有机质含量是影响挖深垫浅复垦土壤细菌群落组成的主要影响因素,pH是影响煤矸石与粉煤灰充填复垦土壤细菌群落组成的主要影响因素。③挖深垫浅复垦土壤细菌网络复杂,群落联系紧密,能更好地传递物质、能量和信息;煤矸石充填复垦土壤细菌网络内部节点间的连通度低,但菌群信息交换速度慢,拥有4个关键节点,网络相对稳定;粉煤灰充填复垦的土壤细菌网络规模最小,节点连通度不高,在外界环境发生变化时反应快,网络稳定性最差。3种复垦模式土壤细菌群落间关系均以协同合作为主导,煤矸石充填复垦土壤细菌群落间的协同合作关系占比最高。本文揭示了3种不同复垦模式下土壤细菌群落结构与分子生态网络差异,研究结果可为高潜水位采煤塌陷区土地复垦模式的优选以及人为干预方式的选择提供支撑。 展开更多
