The generalized eigenvalue equation is obtained by the relation of the mechanic and electric fields as well as the Bloch-Floquet theorem. The band structures of both the in-plane and anti-plane modes are calculated for a rectangular lattice by the planewave expansion method. The effects of the lattice constant ratio and the piezoelectricity with different filling fractions are analyzed. The results show that the largest gap width is not always obtained for a square lattice. In some situations, a rectangular lattice may generate larger gaps. The band gap characteristics are influenced obviously by the piezoelectricity with the larger lattice constant ratios and the filling fractions.展开更多

Analytical calculations were carried out to determine the critical antenna dimensions and the design was optimized using a 3D electromagnetic finite-element solver. The measured results were in good agreement with the designed results. The proposed antenna array exhibits multi-band capabilities which can be potentially used for applications that require a multi-band end-fire radiation pattern.展开更多

Gain around 7 dBi was obtained for DRA with air gap(DRAAG) over a broad bandwidth in upper X, Ku, and K bands. Further enhancement in gain could be obtained by placing a metal wall parallel to the length of DRA. However, due to the presence of metal wall, bandwidth was reduced. These structures with the metal wall are capable of operating over a wide band extending from Ku band to lower K band with the gain of around 10 dBi. CST Microwave Studio Software was used to simulate all these structures.Performance parameters of DRA with air gap were compared with several broadband DRA structures reported in recent literature. The proposed DRAAG with the metal wall in this paper is capable of operating over a wide bandwidth along with a significant gain.展开更多

The time-varying spectrum of the residual noise is retrieved by Bark-scale piecewise constant magnitude estimates along with random phases. In the proposed noise model, Bark bands information is obtained by short-time FFT method and window overlap-add technique is exploited to remove boundary discontinuities. SVQ is also incorporated into parameter quantization process for the low bit-rate coding demand. Simulation results and informal listening tests show that when the sinusoidal model is combined with the Bark-band noise model, better synthesis audio quality can be achieved compared with the original sinusoidal modeling audio codec.展开更多

Flexural wave band structures of such a plate with infinite structure are calculated with the plane-wave expansion (PWE) method, and directional band gaps are found in the ΓX direction. The acceleration frequency response in the ΓX direction of such a plate with finite structure is simulated with the finite element method and verified with a vibration experiment. The frequency ranges of sharp drops in the calculated and measured acceleration frequency response curves are in basic agreement with those in the band structures. Thin plate is a widely used component in the engineering structures. The existence of band gaps in such periodic structures gives a new idea in vibration control of thin plates.展开更多

In this design, however these simpler approximations of slot length against the frequency do not give closer results for different slot lengths and there positions inside the patch. In this paper, the modal variations of slot cut patch antennas over wide frequency range are studied. It is observed that the slot does not introduce any mode but reduces the higher order mode resonance frequency of the patch and along with the fundamental mode realizes dual band response. The formulations of the resonant length for the mode introduce by the slots in these antennas are proposed. The resonance frequencies calculated using proposed formulations agree well with the simulated results with an error of less than 5%.展开更多

This work is focused on rectangular microstrip transceiver integrated with innovative metamaterial structure at a height of 3.276 mm from the ground plane. Two rectangular microstrip transceiver is designed for transmitting and receiving purpose. This work is mainly focused on increasing the potential parameters of rectangular microstrip transceiver. RMT along with the proposed innovative metamaterial structure is designed to resonate at 2.259 GHz. Simulation results showed that the impedance bandwidth of the RMT is improved by 575%, return loss is reduced by 391% and efficiency is improved by 28% by incorporating the proposed innovative metamaterial structure. For verifying that the proposed innovative metamaterial structure possesses negative values of Permeability and Permittivity within the operating frequency range, Nicolson-Ross-Weir method (NRW) has been employed. An op-amp and comparator is used to compare the return loss of transmitting and receiving RMT. An indicator is used to indicate difference of return loss and power of transmitting and receiving rectangular microstrip transceiver. For all simulation purpose, computer simulation technology-microwave studio (CST-MWS) software has been used.展开更多
