A two-dimensional inviscid solver applies finite volume method and unstructured quadrilateral grids were employed to simulate the flow. Theoretical analysis was also conducted to understand the phenomenon. Both numerical and theoretical results indicate a wall-jet penetrating forward is responsible for the occurrence of Mach stem protrusion. The protrusion degree seems to depend on the thermal energy buffer capacity of the testing gas. Approaches to increase the energy buffer capacity, such as vibrational relaxation, molecular dissociation, and increase of frozen heat caoacitv, all tend to escalate the orotrusion effect.展开更多

It is demonstrated numerically that electrons emitting from a point source in the n + region will experience total internal reflection through the interface of the junction. The reflection becomes stronger and the transmission becomes weaker with decrease of the local potential in the right graphene ribbon. It is also found that when a nonideal interface is considered in the junction, the electron-reflection effect is enhanced due to interracial backseattering.展开更多

Experimental research and computer simulations were combined to reveal a great enhancement in LOP from either the top or bottom surface of Ga N-based LEDs, which are prepared on patterned sapphire substrates(PSS-LEDs). Furthermore, the results were compared to those of the conventional LEDs prepared on the planar sapphire substrates(CSS-LEDs). A detailed theoretical analysis was also presented to further support the explanation for the increase in both the effective reflection and transmission of PSS-Ga N interface layers and to explain the causes of increased LOP values. Moreover, the bottom-surface of the PSS-LED chip shows slightly increased light output performance when compared to that of the top-surface. Therefore, the light extraction efficiency(LEE) can be further enhanced by integrating the method of PSS and flip-chip structure design.展开更多

In this paper, we propose a method to enhance SHE with the guided-wave surface-plasmon resonance(SPR). By covering a dielectric with high refractive index on the surface of silver film, the photonic SHE can be greatly enhanced, and a giant transverse shift of horizontal polarization state is observed due to the evanescent field enhancement near the interface at the top dielectric layer and air. The maximum transverse shift of the horizontal polarization state with 11.5 μm is obtained when the thickness of Si film is optimum. There is at least an order of magnitude enhancement in contrast with the transverse shift in the conventional SPR configuration. Our research is important for providing an effective way to improve the photonic SHE and may offer the opportunity to characterize the parameters of the dielectric layer with the help of weak measurements and development of sensors based on the photonic SHE.展开更多
