Crystalline@amorphous NiCo_(2)S_(4)@MoS_(2)(v-NCS@MS)nanostructures were designed and constructed via an ethylene glycol-induced strategy with hydrothermal synthesis and solvothermal method,which simultaneously realized the defect regulation of crystal NiCo_(2)S_(4) in the core.Taking advantage of the flexible protection of an amor-phous shell and the high capacity of a conductive core with defects,the v-NCS@MS electrode exhibited high specif-ic capacity(1034 mAh·g^(-1) at 1 A·g^(-1))and outstanding rate capability.Moreover,a hybrid supercapacitor was assembled with v-NCS@MS as cathode and activated carbon(AC)as anode,which can achieve remarkably high specific energy of 111 Wh·kg^(-1) at a specific power of 219 W·kg^(-1) and outstanding capacity retention of 80.5%after 15000 cycling at different current densities. 展开更多

Interrelationships between Length of the Day, Moon Distance, Phanerozoic Geodynamic Cycles, Tidal Dissipation and Earth’s Core: Review and Analysis

The rotation of the Earth and the related length of the day (LOD) are predominantly affected by tidal dissipation through the Moon and the growth of the Earth’s core. Due to the increased concentration of mass around... The rotation of the Earth and the related length of the day (LOD) are predominantly affected by tidal dissipation through the Moon and the growth of the Earth’s core. Due to the increased concentration of mass around the rotation axis of the spinning Earth during the growth of the core the rotation should have been accelerated. Controversially the tidal dissipation by the Moon, which is mainly dependent on the availability of open shallow seas and the kind of Moon escape from a nearby position, acts towards a deceleration of the rotating Earth. Measurements of LOD for Phanerozoic and Precambrian times open ways to solve questions concerning the geodynamical history of the Earth. These measurements encompass investigations of growth patterns in fossils and depositional patterns in sediments (Cyclostratigraphy, Tidalites, Stromatolites, Rhythmites). These patterns contain information on the LOD and on the changing distance between Earth and Moon and can be used as well for a discussion about the growth of the Earth’s core. By updating an older paper with its simple approach as well as incorporating newly published results provided by the geoscientific community, a moderate to fast growth of the core in a hot early Earth will be favored controversially to the assumption of a delayed development of the core in an originally cold Earth. Core development with acceleration of Earth’s rotation and the contemporaneous slowing down due to tidal dissipation during the filling of the ocean may significantly interrelate. 展开更多

To study the effects of low dose radiation (LDR) on tumor apoptosis, cellcycle progression and changes of apoptosis-related protein Bcl-2 in tumor-bearing mice. Methods:Male mice of Kunming strain were implanted subcutaneously with S180 sarcoma cells in the left inguenas an in situ experimental animal model. Seven days later, the mice were subjected to 75 mGywhole-body γ-irradiation. At 24 and 48 h after the irradiation, all mice were sacrificed. The tumorsizes were measured, and tumor cell apoptosis and cell cycle progression were analyzed by flowcytometry. The expression of apoptosis-related protein Bcl-2 and the apoptotic rate of tumor cellswere observed by immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Results: Tumors grew significantlyslower after LDR (P 【 0.05). The tumor cells were arrested in G1 phrase and the expression of Bcl-2protein decreased at 24 h. Apoptotic rate of tumor cells was increased significantly at 48 h afterLDR (P 【 0.01). Conclusion: LDR could cause a G1-phase arrest and increase the apoptosis of tumorcells through the low level of apoptosis-related protein bcl-2 in the tumor-bearing mice. Theorganized immune function and anti-tumor ability are markedly increased after LDR. Our studyprovides practical evidence of clinical application to cancer treatment. 展开更多

Neurodegenerative diseases are caused by the progressive loss of specific neurons.The exact mechanisms of action of these diseases are unknown,and many studies have focused on pathways related to abnormal accumulation and processing of proteins,mitochondrial dysfunction,and oxidative stress leading to apoptotic death.However,a growing body of evidence indicates that aberrant cell cycle re-entry plays a major role in the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration.The activation of the cell cycle in mature neurons could be promoted by several signaling mechanisms,including c-Jun N-terminal kinases,p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases,and mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase cascades;post-translational modifications such as Tau-phosphorylation;and DNA damage response.In all these events,implicated Cdk5,a proline-directed serine/threonine protein kinase,seems to be responsible for several cellular processes in neurons including axon growth,neurotransmission,synaptic plasticity,neuronal migration,and maintenance of neuronal survival.However,under pathological conditions,Cdk5 dysregulation may lead to cell cycle re-entry in post-mitotic neurons.Thus,Cdk5 hyperactivation,by its physiologic activator p25,hyper-phosphorylates downstream substrates related to neurodegenerative diseases.This review summarizes factors such as oxidative stress,DNA damage response,signaling pathway disturbance,and Ubiquitin proteasome malfunction contributing to cell cycle re-entry in post-mitotic neurons.It also describes how all these factors are linked to a greater or lesser extent with Cdk5.Thus,it offers a global vision of the function of cell cycle-related proteins in mature neurons with a focus on Cdk5 and how this protein contributes to the development of Alzheimer’s disease,Parkinson’s disease,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,and Huntington’s disease by cell cycle activation. 展开更多

The Bunsen reaction is the center reaction for both the sulfur–iodine water splitting cycle for hydrogen production and the novel hydrogen sulfide splitting cycle for hydrogen and sulfuric acid production from the sulfur-containing gases.This paper reviews the research progress of the Bunsen reaction in recent 10–15 years.Researches were initially focused on the optimization of the operating conditions of the conventional Bunsen reaction requiring excessive water and iodine to improve the products separation efficiency and to avoid the side reactions and iodine vapor deposition.Alternative methods including electrochemical methods,precipitation methods,and non-aqueous solvent methods had their respective advantages,but still faced challenges.In development of the technology of H2S splitting cycle,dissolving iodine in toluene solvent could render the Bunsen reaction to occur with the flowable I2 stream at ambient temperature such that the side reactions and iodine vaporization can be avoided and the corrosion hazard lessened.It also prevented the Bunsen reaction from using excessive iodine and water.The products from the Bunsen reaction including HI,H2SO4,H2O,and toluene could be directly electrolyzed. 展开更多

This paper reports the absorption, accumulation, distribution and cycle of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr and Ni in S. apetala + S. caseolaris, mangrove community at Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve of Shenzhen. The Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr and Ni contents in forest soil increase from bottom to surface layers, and the storage of the five heavy metals in the surface layer (depth 0 ~ 30 cm) is Zn > Pb > Ni > Cr > Cu. The concentration ability is S. caseolaris > S. apetala > K. candel. The existing accumulation of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr and Ni in the community μis 23 019.63g/m2μ, 23 429.66g/m2μ, 117 870.42g/m2μ, 6 835.80g/m2μ, and 12 995.22g/m2μ, respectively. The annual absorption is 6 592.57g/m2μ, 2 664.80g/m2μ, 23 123.56g/m2μ, 853.24g/m2μ, and 1 990.95g/m2, respectively. The annual return is μ3 179.50g/m2μ, 1 300.65g/m2μ, 7 401.31g/m2μ, 398.99g/m2μ, and 646.20g/m2, respectively. The annual net retention accumulation of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr and Ni in the community is 3 413.07μg/m2, 1 364.15μ g/m2, 15 722.25μg/m2, 454.25μg/m2, and μ1 344.75g/m2, respectively. This study investigated the effect and mechanism of cell cycle reentry induced by 6-hydrodopamine (6-OHDA) in PC12 cells. By using neural differentiated PC12 cells treated with 6-OHDA, the apoptosis model of dopaminergic neurons was established. Cell viability was measured by MTT. Cell apoptosis and the distribution of cell cycle were assessed by flow cytometry. Western blot was used to detect the activation of extracellular regulator kinasel/2 (ERK1/2) pathway and the phosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein (RB). Our results showed that after PC12 cells were treated wtih 6-OHDA, the viability of PC12 cells was declined in a concentration-dependent manner. Flow cytornetry revealed that 6-OHDA could increase the apoptosis ratio of PC12 cells in a time-dependent manner. The percentage of ceils in G0/G1 phase of cell cycle was decreased and that in S phase and G2/M phase increased. Simultaneously, ERK1/2 pathway was activated and phosphorylated RB increased. It was concluded that 6-OHDA could induce cell cycle reentry of dopaminergic neurons through the activation of ERK1/2 pathway and RB phosphorylation. The aberrant cell cycle reentry contributes to the apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons. 展开更多

Summary: The underlying mechanism of deguelin regulating the cell cycle in human Burkitt's lym phoma cell line Raji cells in vitro, and the cytotoxicity of deguelin to Raji cells and human peripheral blood monocular cells (PBMCs) were investigated. The effects of deguelin on the growth of Raji cells were studied by 3-(4, 5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium (MTT) assay. Apoptosis was detected through Hoechst 33258 staining. The effect of deguelin on the cell cycle of Raji cells was studied by a propidium iodide method. The expression levels of cyclin D1, P21 and pRb were examined by using Western blotting. The results showed that the proliferation of Raji cells was inhibited in the de guelin-treated group, with a 24-h IC5o value of 21.61 nmol/L and a 36-h IC50 value of 17.07 nmol/L. Proliferation in Raji cells was inhibited significantly by deguelin, while little change was observed in PBMCs. Deguelin induced G2/M arrest in Raji cells. The expression of cyclin D1, P21 and pRb was dramatically down-regulated by deguelin in a dose-dependent manner. It was concluded that deguelin could inhibit the proliferation of Raji cells by arresting the cells at GE/M phase and inducing the cell apoptosis. Moreover, deguelin selectively induced apoptosis of Raji cells with low toxicity to PBMCs. The antitumor effects of deguelin were related to the down-regulated expression of cyclin D1, P21 and pRb proteins. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Anoctamin 5(ANO5)/transmembrane protein 16E belongs to the ANO/transmembrane protein 16 anion channel family.ANOs comprise a family of plasma membrane proteins that mediate ion transport and phospholipid scrambling and regulate other membrane proteins in numerous cell types.Previous studies have elucidated the roles and mechanisms of ANO5 activation in various cancer types.However,it remains unclear whether ANO5 acts as a plasma membrane chloride channel,and its expression and functions in gastric cancer(GC)have not been investigated.AIM To examine the role of ANO5 in the regulation of tumor progression and clinicopathological significance of its expression in GC.METHODS Knockdown experiments using ANO5 small interfering RNA were conducted in human GC cell lines,and changes in cell proliferation,cell cycle progression,apoptosis,and cellular movement were assessed.The gene expression profiles of GC cells were investigated following ANO5 silencing by microarray analysis.Immunohistochemical staining of ANO5 was performed on 195 primary tumor samples obtained from patients with GC who underwent curative gastrectomy between 2011 and 2013 at our department.RESULTS Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and western blotting demonstrated high ANO5 mRNA and protein expression,respectively,in NUGC4 and MKN45 cells.In these cells,ANO5 silencing inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis.In addition,the knockdown of ANO5 inhibited G1-S phase progression,invasion,and migration.The results of the microarray analysis revealed changes in the expression levels of several cyclin-associated genes,such as CDKN1A,CDK2/4/6,CCNE2,and E2F1,in ANO5-depleted NUGC4 cells.The expression of these genes was verified using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR.Immunohistochemical staining revealed that high ANO5 expression levels were associated with a poor prognosis.Multivariate analysis identified high ANO5 expression as an independent prognostic factor for 5-year survival in patients with GC(P=0.0457).CONCLUSION ANO5 regulates the cell cycle progression by regulating the expression of cyclin-associated genes and affects the prognosis of patients with GC.These results may provide insights into the role of ANO5 as a key mediator in tumor progression and/or promising prognostic biomarker for GC. 展开更多

AIM: To determine the effect of cis -9, trans -11-conjugated linoleic acid (c9, t11-CLA) on the cell cycle of gastric cancer cells (SGC-7901) and its possible mechanism in inhibition cancer growth. METHODS: Using cell culture and immunocytochemical techniques, we examined the cell growth, DNA synthesis, expression of PCNA, cyclin A, B(1), D(1), p16(ink4a) and p21(cip/waf1) of SGC-7901 cells which were treated with various c9, t11-CLA concentrations (25, 50, 100 and 200 micromol.L(-1))of c 9, t 11-CLA for 24 and 48h, with a negative control (0.1% ethane). RESULTS: The cell growth and DNA synthesis of SGC-7901 cells were inhibited by c9, t11-CLA.SGC-7901 cells. Eight day after treatment with various concentrations of c9, t11-CLA mentioned above, the inhibition rates were 5.92%, 20.15%, 75.61% and 82.44%, respectively and inhibitory effect of c9, t11-CLA on DNA synthesis (except for 25 micromol.L, 24h) showed significantly less (3)H-TdR incorporation than that in the negative controls (P【0.05 and P【0.01). Immunocytochemical staining demonstrated that SGC-7901 cells preincubated in media supplemented with different c9, t11-CLA concentrations at various times significantly decreased the expressions of PCNA (the expression rates were 7.2-3.0%, 24h and 9.1-0.9% at 48h, respectively), Cyclin A (11.0-2.3%, 24h and 8.5-0.5%,48h), B(1) (4.8-1.8% at 24h and 5.5-0.6% at 48h)and D(1) (3.6-1.4% at 24h and 3.7%-0 at 48h) as compared with those in the negative controls(the expressions of PCNA, Cyclin A, B(1) and D(1) were 6.5% at 24h and 9.0% at 48h, 4.2% at 24h and 5.1% at 48h, 9.5% at 24h and 6.0% at 48h,respectively)(P【0.01), whereas the expressions of P16(ink4a) and P21(cip/waf1), cyclin-dependent kinases inhibitors(CDKI), were increased. Two dynamic grey models DGM (1, 1) for the verification cycle and the lifecycle of measuring instrument based on time sequence and frequency sequence were set up, according to the statistical feature of examination data and weighting method. By a specific case, i.e. vernier caliper, it is proved that the fit precision and forecast precision of the models are much higher, the cycles are obviously different under different working conditions, and the forecast result of the frequency sequence model is better than that of the time sequence model. Combining dynamic grey model and auto-manufacturing case the controlling and information subsystems of verification cycle and the lifecycle based on information integration, multi-sensor controlling and management controlling were given. The main challenges in development of traditional liquid lithium-sulfur batteries are the shuttle effect at the cathode caused by the polysulfide and the safety concern at the Li metal anode arose from the dendrite formation.All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries have been proposed to solve the shuttle effect and prevent short circuits.However,solid-solid contacts between the electrodes and the electrolyte increase the interface resistance and stress/strain,which could result in the limited electrochemical performances.In this work,the cathode of all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries is prepared by depositing sulfur on the surface of the carbon nanotubes(CNTs@S)and further mixing with Li10GeP2S12 electrolyte and acetylene black agents.At 60℃,CNTs@S electrode exhibits superior electrochemical performance,delivering the reversible discharge capacities of 1193.3,959.5,813.1,569.6 and 395.5 mAhg^-1 at the rate of 0.1,0.5,1,2 and 5 C,respectively.Moreover,the CNTs@S is able to demonstrate superior high-rate capability of 660.3 mAhg^-1 and cycling stability of 400 cycles at a high rate of 1.0 C.Such uniform distribution of the CNTs,S and Li10GeP2S12 electrolyte increase the electronic and ionic conductivity between the cathode and the electrolyte hence improves the rate performance and capacity retention. 展开更多

The fatigue fracture behavior of four ultrahigh strength steels with different melting processes and therefore different inclusion sizes were studied by using a rotating bar two-point bending fatigue machine in the high-cycle regime up to 107 cycles of loading. The fracture surfaces were observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). It was found that the size of inclusion has significant effect on the fatigue behavior. For AtSI 4340 steel in which the inclusion size is smaller than 5.5 μm, all the fatigue cracks except one did not initiated from inclusion but from specimen surface and conventional S-N curve exists. For 65Si2MnWE and Aermet 100 steels in which the average inclusion sizes are 12.2 and 14.9 μm, respectively, fatigue cracks initiated from inclusions at lower stress amplitudes and stepwise S-N curves were observed. The S-N curve displays a continuous decline and fatigue failures originated from large oxide inclusion for 60Si2CrVA steel in which the average inclusion size is 44.4 pro. In the case of internal inclusion-induced fractures at cycles beyond about 1×10^6 for 65Si2MnWE and 60Si2CrVA steels, inclusion was always found inside the fish-eye and a granular bright facet (GBF) was observed in the vicinity around the inclusion. The GBF sizes increase with increasing the number of cycles to failure Nf in the long-life regime. The values of stress intensity factor range at crack initiation site for the GBF are almost constant with Nf, and are almost equal to that for the surface inclusion and the internal inclusion at cycles lower than about 1×10^6. Neither fish-eye nor GBF was observed for Aermet 100 steel in the present study. 展开更多

In contrast to typical planktonic hydromedusae,Cladonema medusae are mostly benthic,with specialised adhesive branches to adhere to the substrate.In this study,a Cladonema species discovered in a laboratory aquarium in Fuzhou,China,was confirmed as a new species,based on morphological and molecular analyses.The species was named Cladonema multiramosum sp.nov.Its medusa is distinct from that of congeners possessing substantially more adhesive branches(8-24,rarely 5-7),and tiny branches on the upper radial canals.The validity of C.multiramosumum sp.nov.was also supported by molecular phylogenetic analyses based on the mitochondrial 16S rDNA sequence.However,C.multiramosum sp.nov.medusa also displayed considerable phenotypic plasticity with respect to its radial canals,tentacles,stinging branches per tentacle,oral tentacles,manubrium,and gonads,hindering species identification based solely on morphology.Although some morphological characteristics of hydroids(filiform tentacles and medusa buds)and nematocysts could also be used as diagnostic characters in the genus Cladonema,this information is unavailable for some Cladonema species.Thus,the taxonomy within the genus Cladonema was re-evaluated based mainly on the morphological characteristics of the medusa.Further revision of the genus Cladonema should be made when supplementary information on the life cycle and DNA barcoding are updated. 展开更多

Very high cycle fatigue(VHCF) behaviors of bridge steel(Q345) welded joints were investigated using an ultrasonic fatigue test system at room temperature with a stress ratio R = -1. The results show that the fatigue strength of welded joints is dropped by an average of 60% comparing to the base metal and the fatigue failure still occurred beyond 10~7 cycles.The fatigue fracture of welded joints in the low cycle regime generally occurred at the solder while at the heat-affected zone(HAZ) in the very high cycle regime.The fatigue fracture surface was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy(SEM),showing welding defects such as pore,micro-crack and inclusion were the main factors on decreasing the fatigue properties of welded joints.The effect of welding defects on the fatigue behaviors of welded joints was discussed in terms of experimental results and finite element simulations. 展开更多

The effects of S86019, an active component from Puralia lobata, on the induction of cell differentiation and cell cycle traverse of HL-60 cells were described. It was shown that cell proliferation of HL-60 cells was inhibited by S86019 in vitro. Under the action of S86019 the HL-60 cells were induced to differentiate into metamyelocytes, myelocytes and much matured cells with banded or segmented nucleus. Flow cytometry demonstrated that the cell population of HL-60 cells was blocked at G1 phase which resulted in the elevation of percentage of G1 cells and decrease of percentage of cells in S phase. Experimental results demonstrated that S86019 is an active inducer of cell differentiation in HL-60 cells. 展开更多

Background:Many disease-specific factors such as muscular weakness,increased muscle stiffness,varying postural strategies,and changes in postural reflexes have been shown to lead to postural instability and fall risk in people with Parkinson's disease(PD).Recently,analytical techniques,inspired by the dynamical systems perspective on movement control and coordination,have been used to examine the mechanisms underlying the dynamics of postural declines and the emergence of postural instabilities in people with PD.Methods:A wavelet-based technique was used to identify limit cycle oscillations(LCOs) in the anterior–posterior(AP) postural sway of people with mild PD(n = 10) compared to age-matched controls(n = 10).Participants stood on a foam and on a rigid surface while completing a dual task(speaking).Results:There was no significant difference in the root mean square of center of pressure between groups.Three out of 10 participants with PD demonstrated LCOs on the foam surface,while none in the control group demonstrated LCOs.An inverted pendulum model of bipedal stance was used to demonstrate that LCOs occur due to disease-specific changes associated with PD:time-delay and neuromuscular feedback gain.Conclusion:Overall,the LCO analysis and mathematical model appear to capture the subtle postural instabilities associated with mild PD.In addition,these findings provide insights into the mechanisms that lead to the emergence of unstable posture in patients with PD. 展开更多
