It is well-known that the asteroids in the main belt trapped in the 3:1 Mean Motion Resonance (MMR) with Jupiter (at semi-major axes -2.5 AU) are few in number, forming one of the so-called Kirkwood Gaps. Wisdom pointed out that chaotic motion of such aster- oids can increase their eccentricities and make them approach and cross the orbit of Mars (or even the Earth). We numerically investigated the orbital evolution of the asteroids involved in 3:1 MMR (NEOs) over millions of years and revisited the dynamical mechanisms of trasporitng such asteroids into the NEO region. The results show that the dynamical evolution of the asteroids around 2.5 AU is mainly dominated by the 3:1 resonance, the v5 and v6 secular resonances and the Kozai resonance, and these bodies can evolve into NEOs through several of the dynamical mechanisms, so indicating possible dynamical origin of the NEOs. 展开更多

This paper summarizes a few cases of spacecraft orbital motion around asteroid for which averaging method can be applied, i.e., when central body rotates slowly, fast, and when a spacecraft is near to the resonant orbits between the spacecraft mean motion and the central body's rotation. Averaging conditions for these cases are given. As a major extension, a few classes of near resonant orbits are analyzed by the averaging method. Then some resulted conclusions of these averaging analyses are applied to understand the stabil- ity regions in a numerical experiment. Some stability conclu- sions are obtained. As a typical example, it is shown in detail that near circular 1 : 2 resonant orbit is always unstable. 展开更多

In this paper based on [1]we go further into the study of chaotic behaviour of theforced oscillator containing a square nonlinear term by the methods of multiple scalesand numerical simulation. Relation between the chaotic domain and principal resonance curve is discussed. By analyzing the stability of principal resonance curve weinfer that chaotic motion would occur near the frequency at which the principalresonance curve has vertical tangent. Results of numerical simulation confirm thisinference. Thus we offer an effective way to seek the chaotic motion of the systems which are hard to he investigated by Melnikoy method. 展开更多

In highly populated urban centers, traditional seismic survey sources can no longer be properly applied due to restrictions in modern civilian life styles. The ambient vibration noise, including both microseisms and microtremor, though are generally weak but available anywhere and anytime, can be an ideal supplementary source for conducting seismic surveys for engineering seismology and earthquake engineering. This is funda- mentally supported by advanced digital signal processing techniques for effectively extracting the useful information out from the noise. Thus, it can be essentially regarded as a passive seismic method. In this paper we first make a brief survey of the ambient vibration noise, followed by a quick summary of digital signal processing for passive seismic surveys. Then the applications of ambient noise in engi- neering seismology and earthquake engineering for urban settings are illustrated with examples from Beijing metro- politan area. For engineering seismology the example is the assessment of site effect in a large area via microtremor observations. For earthquake engineering the example is for structural characterization of a typical reinforced con- crete high-rise building using background vibration noise.By showing these examples we argue that the ambient noise can be treated as a new source that is economical, practical, and particularly valuable to engineering seis- mology and earthquake engineering projects for seismic hazard mitigation in urban areas. 展开更多

A novel reference-driven method for MR image reconstruction based on wavelet sparsity and nonlocal total variation(NLTV)is proposed.Utilizing the sparsity of the difference image between the target image and the motion-compensated reference image in wavelet transform domain, the proposed method does not need to estimate contrast changes and therefore increases computational efficiency.Additionally,NLTV regularization is applied to preserve image details and features without blocky effects. An efficient alternating iterative algorithm is used to estimate motion effects and reconstruct the difference image.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly reduce sampling rate or improve the quality of the reconstructed image alternatively. 展开更多

The phonon-assisted process of energy transfer aiming at exploring the newly emerging frontier between biology and physics is an issue of central interest. This article shows the important role of the intramolecular vibrational modes for excitation energy transfer in the photosynthetic systems.Based on a dimer system consisting of a donor and an acceptor modeled by two two-level systems,in which one of them is coupled to a high-energy vibrational mode,we derive an effective Hamiltonian describing the vibration-assisted coherent energy transfer process in the polaron frame. The effective Hamiltonian reveals in the case that the vibrational mode dynamically matches the energy detuning between the donor and the acceptor, the original detuned energy transfer becomes resonant energy transfer. In addition, the population dynamics and coherence dynamics of the dimer system with and without vibration-assistance are investigated numerically. It is found that, the energy transfer efficiency and the transfer time depend heavily on the interaction strength of the donor and the high-energy vibrational mode,as well as the vibrational frequency. The numerical results also indicate that the initial state and dissipation rate of the vibrational mode have little influence on the dynamics of the dimer system. Results obtained in this article are not only helpful to understand the natural photosynthesis, but also offer an optimal design principle for artificial photosynthesis. 展开更多

Functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)is one of the most commonly used methods in cognitive neuroscience on humans. In recent decades,fMRI has also been used in the awake monkey experiments to localize functional brain areas and to compare the functional differences between human and monkey brains.Several procedures and paradigms have been developed to maintain proper head fixation and to perform motion control training. In this study,we extended the application of fMRI to awake cats without training, receiving a flickering checkerboard visual stimulus projected to a screen in front of them in a block-design paradigm. We found that body movement-induced non-rigid motion introduced artifacts into the functional scans, especially those around the eye and neck.To correct for these artifacts,we developed two methods:one for general experimental design, and the other for studies of whether a checkerboard task could be used as a localizer to optimize the motioncorrection parameters. The results demonstrated that, with proper animal fixation and motion correction procedures,it is possible to perform fMRI experiments with untrained awake cats. 展开更多
