The compression deformation experimental data of commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) were mapped to be a T vs lg diagram in which data fall into three distinct regions, i.e., three-stage work hardening, two-stage work hardening and flow softening, which can be separated by border lines at 17.5 and 15.4 for lg Z, where Z represents the Zener-Hollomon parameter. The deformation twin is found to have higher Z-value corresponding to the work hardening region. The differences in microstructures and mechanical properties for two kinds of billets indicate that forged billet consists of deformation twins and some twin intersections, and many twins cross the grain boundaries. However, nearly no twins can be seen in the microstructure of billet formed by rolling under optical microscope (OM), but there are equiaxed and platelike grains. Tensile tests and Vickers hardness test indicate that yield strength, tensile strength and microhardness of the samples after forging are higher than those after rolling.展开更多

The closure and growth of crack and the contact pressure on surfaces of the crack in contacting zone between slab and roll during rolling process were analyzed. The results showed that during vertical rolling process, when the groove vertical roll is used, the maximum contact pressure on surfaces of the crack is 115 MPa, and the closure of crack is stable when the flat vertical roll is used, the maximum contact pressure on surfaces of the crack is 70 MPa, and it fluctuates greatly. The results show that the specimens with fast cooling after hot rolling exhibit very good mechanical properties, and the improvement of the mechanical properties can be attributed mainly to the ferrite-grain refinement. The mechanical properties increase with decreasing final cooling temperature within the range from 670 ℃ to 570 ℃ due to the finer interlamellar spacing of pearlite colony. The specimen with fast cooling after low temperature rolling shows the highest values of the mechanical properties. The effect of the ferrite grain size on the mechanical properties was greater than that of pearlite morphology in the present study. The mechanical properties of specimens by controlled rolling and cooling process without thermal treatment were greatly superior to that of the same specimens by the conventional rolling, and their tensile strength reached 490 MPa grade even in the case of low temperature rolling without controlled rolling. It might be expected to realize the substitution medium-carbon by low-carbon for 490 MPa grade cold forging steel with controlled rolling and cooling process.展开更多

Generally, some defects such as large size cracks exist due to insufficient deformation in the center of traditionally rolled plates. Compared with the traditional rolling process, gradient temperature rolling(GTR) process can effectively increase deformation inside heavy plates. In this study, the effect of GTR on crack healing was analyzed through a comparison experiment with the uniform temperature rolling(UTR). The results show that the GTR process could increase the plastic strain inside the heavy plate and effectively promote the healing process of the preset cracks. The degrees of crack healing at the center and quarter thickness position of the steel plate via GTR were greater than twice those of the plate via UTR. The GTR process can significantly reduce the internal defects of heavy plates and improve the defect detection level of heavy plate products. Also, The GTR process results in the formation of new crystal grains in the crack region, which is crucial to crack healing.展开更多

First, the thermal simulation experiments for pure titanium TA1 were carried out to investigate the hot deformation behaviors of pure titanium in the temperature range of 700-800 ℃ with strain rate range of 1-20 S-1, and the processing map was established to determine optimized deformation parameters. Then, the finite element model has been constructed and used to analyze the effect of process parameters on the direction and severity of head curvature of pure titanium sheet. The process parameters considered in the present study include workpiece temperature, work roll diameter, pass reduction, oxide scale thickness of workpiece surface, and interface friction coefficient. The simulation results show that the workpiece temperature and the interface friction coefficient are the two main factors. The proposed controlling means was carried out on a hot rolling production line and solved the head curvature problem effectively. The rolling practices indicate that the rolling yield is improved greatly.展开更多

The billet is dragged into the passes by contact friction force between the billet and rollers. The rollers and billet are represented by respectively rigid and deformable bodies, and three-dimensional models are developed for the billet and rollers. The distribution of deformation field, effective strain, rolling force and temperature field are accurately calculated for the whole rolling process (including unstable and stable stages). In addition, the rolling pressure on the width symmetry center is compared with that in the in-situ experimental measurements. It is revealed that various heat exchange phenomena among the billet, rollers and surroundings can result in unbalanced temperature distribution on the cross section. Rolling force and strain can change significantly when the billet is moved towards or away from the roller gap, and keep almost invariable in the stable stage. It is expected that the simulation results would be useful for practical manufacture and provide the theoretical foundation for improvement of process planning and optimization of process parameters.展开更多

The influences of rolling parameters on superconducting characteristics of Bi(2223)/Ag tapes were analyzed qualitatively with a statistical method. The results demonstrate that roll diameter and reduction per pass significantly influence the properties of Bi(2223)/Ag superconducting tapes while roll speed does less and working friction the least. In cases where the field has a weak time dependence, one may desire to estimate the present-time value of the field using a time window of data that rolls forward as new data become available, leading to a sequence of solution updates. We introduce “rolling GPR” (or moving window GPR) and present a procedure for implementing that is more computationally efficient than solving the full GPR problem at each update. Furthermore, regime shifts (sudden large changes in the field) can be detected by monitoring the change in posterior covariance of the predicted data during the updates, and their detrimental effect is mitigated by shortening the time window as the variance rises, and then decreasing it as it falls (but within prior bounds). A set of numerical experiments is provided that demonstrates the viability of the procedure.展开更多

Severe strain was imposed into the surface layer and strain gradient was formed through the thickness of the sheet. The microstructure and texture in as-strained state were investigated by optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction technique On the surface of the sheets, ultra-fine grains were found to have a sharp texture with a preferred orientation strongly related to the FRSP direction. The evolution of microstructure and crystallographic texture of FRSPed samples during recrystallization were also studied by electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique after being annealed at selected temperatures and time. The results indicated that the preferred orientations resulting from FRSP and annealing in the surface layer were formed during rolling and its recrystallization textures were reduced by FRSP. In addition, the texture evolved stably without change in main components during the annealing.展开更多

文摘Based on the theory of elastic-plastic finite element method, the high-speed hot continuous rolling process of a billet is simulated and analyzed in vertical and horizontal passes. It is expected that the simulation results would be useful for practical manufacture and provide the theoretical foundation for improvement of process planning and optimization of process parameters.
文摘Ag-sheathed (Bi,Pb)(2)SoCa(2)Cu(3)O(x) tapes were prepared by the powder-in-tube method. An optimized rolling process was therefore achieved according to the above results.

文摘The hot-plate rolling(HPR)process is adopted to achieve the optimal strength-ductility for the in-situ nano-TiC_(P)/Al-Mg-Si composites. There was no crack in the sheet by single pass of hot-plate rolling with a thickness reduction of 80%,while there were numerous cracks in the sheet by two passes of conventional hot rolling to achieve a total reduction of 50%.The microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites subjected to 80%thickness reduction of hot rolling at 540℃were investigated by tensile tests, scanning electron microscopy, and electron backscatter diffraction. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of in-situ nano-TiC_(P)/Al-Mg-Si composites after the hot-plate rolling process and T6 heat treatment increased significantly due to the dislocation strengthening and precipitation strengthening.

文摘Rolling process based on the plastic deformation as a surface strengthening treatment was employed, aiming to improve the wear resistance ability and functional performance of the high carbon equivalent gray cast iron(HCEGCI).The microstructures and tribological performance of the untreated and rolled samples were characterized. In addition, the wear mechanism of HCEGCI samples was also studied via pin-on-disc tests. The experimental results show that the as-rolled samples possess the structure-refined layer of 15μm and work-hardened layer of 0.13 mm.In comparison with the surface hardness of untreated samples, the surface hardness of as-rolled samples increases by 84.6%(from 240HV0.1 to 443HV0.1)and the residual compressive stresses existed within the range of 0.2 mm.The wear rates of as-rolled samples were decreased by 38.4%,37.5%,and 44.4%under different loads of 5 N,10 N,and 15 N,respectively. The wear characteristics of the untreated samples mainly exhibit the peeling wear coupled with partial adhesive and abrasive wear. However,as for the as-rolled samples, the adhesive wear was limited by the structure-refined layer and the micro-crack propagation was controlled by the work-hardened layer. Therefore, the wear resistance of as-rolled samples can be improved significantly due to the low wearing degree of the friction contact zone.

文摘Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) can be applied to the problem of estimating a spatially-varying field on a regular grid, based on noisy observations made at irregular positions. A set of numerical experiments is provided that demonstrates the viability of the procedure.

文摘Commercial purity and high purity titanium sheets were initially strained by a new technique, named as friction roll surface processing (FRSP). In addition, the texture evolved stably without change in main components during the annealing.

文摘The effect of set-back distance on the thermo-mechanical behavior of the strip during twin roll casting(TRC)of an AZ31 magnesium alloy was modeled using finite element method(FEM).Model validation was done by comparing the predicted and measured exit strip surface temperature as well as the secondary dendrite arm spacing(SDAS)through the thickness of the sheet to those measured during experiments.Model results showed as the set-back distance increases, the strip exit temperature decreases and the solidification front moves toward the entry of the roll gap.The cast strip also experiences more plastic deformation and consequently, the normal stress on the strip surface and effective strain at the strip center-line increase. Moreover, higher separating forces were predicted for longer set-back distances.Model predictions showed that changing the set-back distance by varying the final thickness has a more significant effect on the temperature and stress-strain fields than altering the nozzle opening height.
文摘This paper employs simple rolling process plus annealing to refine the grain size of magnesium alloy ZK60. This goal is effectively achieved, obtaining grains as fine as -3.7 um. Such a specimen shows an elongation of 642%, and its ultimate fracture surface exhibits intergranular separation and significant grain growth. Additionally, the effects of the specimen's geometry and tensile test axis with respect to the rolling direction on superplastic elongation is studied, which has not been done before.
