Comparison of rare earths doping(neodymium and samarium) on structural and magnetic properties of Ni-Zn-Bi nanoferrites

Excellent magnetic properties in ferrites are required for high-frequency applications and for wastewater treatment. Thus, the present study shows the comparison of magnetic and structural properties of Nd and Sm substituted Ni-Zn-Bi ferrites with the series Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Bi_(0.04)Nd_(x)Fe_(1.96-x)O_4(with step size 0.002)and Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Bi_(0.04)Sm_(x)Fe_(1.96-x)O_4(with step size 0.02) prepared using citrate precursor method. The impact of the substitution of rare earth ions(Nd and Sm) on magnetic properties of the synthesized samples is observed using a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM). The saturation magnetization values enhance considerably from 52 to 58 emu/g for Nd^(3+)ions and 39 to 57 emu/g for Sm^(3+) ions, thus, making these materials magnetically hard. Further, the higher value of coercivity is also observed ranging from133 to 167 Oe for Nd^(3+)ions and 81 to 155 Oe for Sm^(3+) ions. The shape of hysteresis loops indicates a super paramagnetic and ferromagnetic behavior in the obtained samples. The squareness ratio value is<0.5, suggesting the uniaxial anisotropy of particles and hence, these ferrites are suitable for microwaveabsorbing and in permanent magnetic materials. The X-ray diffraction(XRD) pattern shows the formation of pure cubic crystallites, where, lattice parameters range from 0.840 to 0.839 nm and from 0.838to 0.839 nm for Nd^(3+)and Sm^(3+) ions substitution, respectively. The crystallite size ranges between 28.63to 29.89 nm and 18.33 to 26.23 nm, for substitution of Nd^(3+)and Sm^(3+) ions, respectively. Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) shows the formation of homogeneous grains, whereas, energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS) counts describe the purity of the samples. The Sm concentration x = 0.10has the maximum surface area with value of 42.6 m^(2)/g which proves to be having good data storage application due to high surface area. The zero-field cooled(ZFC) and field cooled(FC) data show that Nddoped Ni-Zn-Bi nanoferrites show superparamagnetic behaviour in the room temperature range which makes them suitable for practical applications. 展开更多

The effects of rare earths with different contents on anti-degradation of Y base heavy rare earths-magnesium and cerium base light rare earths-magnesium nodular cast iron were studied. Curves of the relationship between the spheroidization grade of liguid iron treated by different nodulizers and holding time were obtained. The results show that the more the remains of the rare earth, the longer the anti-degradation time, the liquid iron was treated either by Y-Mg-Si or by Ce-Mg-Si nodulizer. When the rare earth remains are above certain quantity, the spheroidization grade starts to decline. When liquid iron treated by either Y-Mg-Si or Ce-Mg-Si nodulizer with proper remains of rare earths about 0.04% 0.06%(mass fraction), the anti-degradation is the best, and the remains of Mg being about 0.04% -0.07% (mass fraction). Rare earths-Mg nodulizer with moderate RE remains is better than that of Mg-Si nodulizer in anti-degradation property. However, Y-Mg-Si nodulizer with moderate remins of Re is better than Ce-Mg-Si nodulizer. Sometimes Ce-Mg- Si nodulizer can be used for the production of heavy section nodular cast iron. 展开更多

The mechanical properties of Al-Cu-Mn casting alloy mainly depend on the morphology, distribution, size, and number ofθ′(Al2Cu) precipitates. In this study, we have analyzed the effect of rare earth samarium (Sm) addition on the kinetics of precipitation in the Al-Cu-Mn casting alloy by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Thermal ef-fect peaks that are attributed to the formation and the dissolution of Guinier-Preston (GP) zone andθ′phase were identified from the DSC curves. The activation energy ofθ′formation was calculated by using both the Kissinger method and the analytical model, and the corre-sponding results were compared. Results suggest that the activation energy ofθ′formation in Al-Cu-Mn alloy is dramatically higher than that in Al-Cu-Mn-Sm alloy. Accordingly, it is concluded that the addition of rare earth Sm decreases the activation energy ofθ′formation and promotes the formation ofθ′precipitates. 展开更多

The results show that the survival rate, body length and weight of the shrimp treated by RE and its complex with extract from seaweed are higher than those of the control, and that the activities of the phenoloxidase (PO), lysozyme (LSZ), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), acid phosphatase (ACP) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in the shrimp treated by RE and the complex are also much higher than those from the control. 展开更多

Behaviors of Rare Earths during Fluid-Rock Interaction and Its Significance of Geochemistry

Rare earths in ores, altered and unaltered sericite phyllite, altered and unaltered dacite porphyry were determined in order to examine behaviors of rare earths in hydrothermal alteration associating with ore-forming processes of Yinshan deposit. It is not sufficient to show the mobility only by the absolute abundance of trace elements changes before and after alteration. This can simply result from dilution or concentration if other elements are added to or removed from the rock. As shown by that in Yinshan deposit, less than 20% of the increment of RE was caused by the 'condensed' of leaching some of major elements (e.g. Si, Na) from the rock. The principal factor which should be responsible for the higher contents of RE in altered rock is the addition of RE into the rock by hydrothermal fluids. Eu is selectively leached from the altered sericite phyllite by a mild acidity and reducing fluid which is characterized by much lower LRE/HRE ratio and a large positive Eu anomaly. A major effect on the RE patterns is the tendency to develop relatively flatter chondrite-normalized patterns. The RE characteristics may be used to distinguish between small and large ore bodies at a later stage of exploration. 展开更多

P507 (HEH [EHP]) is an important extractant for the separation of rare earth and is widely used in industry. Since the complexes of heavy rare earth ions with saponified P507 are so stable that the rare earth ions a... P507 (HEH [EHP]) is an important extractant for the separation of rare earth and is widely used in industry. Since the complexes of heavy rare earth ions with saponified P507 are so stable that the rare earth ions are difficult to be exchanged and stripped by H^+ ions. Thus, the cycled extractant loads certain amount of heavy rare earth ion after stripped by acid. This amount of rare earth ions loaded in blank organic phase is named as the "cycling loaded rare earth ions (CLREs)". In the separation process of Tm^3+, Yb^3 +, and Lu^3 + , the amount of CLREs carl be more than 10% of the normal capacity of saponifiedorganic phase. In fact, CLREs affect the separation efficiency and decrease the purity of the products. Based on the extracting-stripping equilibrium and mass balance, the influence of different process parameters on the amount of CLREs was studied by computer simulation. The results indicate that higher acid consumption and more stripping stages are required to eliminate CLREs. For an industrial practice, however, the acid consumption and the number of stripping stage can be designed by choosing an economic process and controlling CLREs at a reasonable level. 展开更多

The voltammetric and polarographic behaviours of 14 rare earth elements were investigated in anhydrous acetone.The influence of residual oxygen on their waves was examined.At a concentration lower than 6× 10^(-4)mol/L,Eu^(3+),Yb^(3+)and Sm^(3+) produce two waves and other rare earth ions exhibit only one wave. When the concentration is greater than 8×10^(-4)mol/L,two waves could be observed on the reduction of Yb^(2+),Sm^(2+)and other RE^(3+)ions except for Eu^(3+).By adding 0.6% H_2O(or 1×10^(-4)mol/L NH_4ClO_4) one well-defined wave appears instead of two.The phenomenon is explained that a thin deposit film may be formed at electrode surface owing to the interaction of RE^(3+) with O_2^-,which is the reduction product of trace oxygen in aprotic solvent.In the presence of a proton donor such as H_2O or NH_4^+,oxygen reduces directly to H_2O_2 and eliminates the appearance of two waves. 展开更多
