This study case is a rural school in La Pampa, Argentina, where we compare two energy efficiency systems for construction: the local traditional building type and a proposed one, based on passive system design during its life cycle. In addition, we assume that savings of emissions of greenhouse-gases are valued in terms of Argentina’s energy matrix. The efficiency, in terms of energy, involves the consumption for its manufacture (extraction, transport and assembly of materials), construction, maintenance and dismantling, recycling and final disposal of waste. Knowing this information at the preliminary stage can be advantageous to evaluate the selected materials in terms of energy and cost savings to amortize its value over the life cycle, and introduce other types of design. At present, there are significant problems of resource scarcity. The implementation of the analysis of life cycle (LC) should be a significant contribution in the field of construction in reference to awareness about energy conservation and efficiency, and therefore contributing to the sustainable development of societies. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study is to evaluate the theoretical knowledge and psychomotor skill acquisition of basic life support(BLS) by a group of secondary school students in Nigeria pre and post BLS training. METHODS: This was quasi-experimental study design with 210 participants. They were taught on adult BLS and all the participants practiced BLS on a Resusci-Anne manikin immediately after the training. Data were collected using American Heart Association(AHA) structured questionnaire and psychomotor skills checklist for BLS at baseline, and post BLS training.RESULTS: The pre-training knowledge score was 1.9±1.4. This increased after the BLS training to 11.4±2.4, and the mean difference between the pre and post BLS training scores was 9.48571. Pre-training psychomotor skill score was 0.00±0.00, this increased to 8.9±1.9 after the training, and the mean difference was 8.90000. The knowledge and psychomotor skill difference between pre and post BLS training was signifi cant(P<0.000).CONCLUSION: Most Nigerian secondary school students were not knowledgeable about BLS. Therefore, there is need for the creation of more awareness among the students. 展开更多

The effects of increased dietary fiber intake on the self-reported quality of life of school-age children

The aim of this community-based, randomized-controlled prospective nutrition intervention study was to assess the impact of serving high-fiber snacks twice a day to a sample of school-age children on their dietary fiber intake and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores. Participants (n = 81) were children aged 7-11 years. Children were randomized to receive two high-fiber snacks per day for eight weeks (intervention) or to continue eating their regular snacks (control). At baseline and post-intervention, usual dietary intake data were collected via repeated 24-hour dietary recalls and HRQOL was assessed using the PedsQL? Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory. Statistical analysis to assess significant changes in dietary intake as well as self-reported quality of life was conducted using two-sided student’s t-tests;significance level was set at p < 0.05. Dietary fiber intake increased significantly by 2.41 grams/day in the intervention group. The mean increase in the physical scale score of the PedsQL from baseline to post-intervention was significantly greater for the intervention as compared to control group. This study indicates that providing high-fiber snacks to elementary-school children can effectively increase dietary fiber consumption and may lead to an improved physical quality of life. Further research is needed regarding the impact of nutrition on health-related quality of life. 展开更多

The Effects of a Community and School Sport-Based Program on Urban Indigenous Adolescents’ Life Skills and Physical Activity Levels: The <i>SCP</i>Case Study

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a community and school sport program (SCP) on Indigenous adolescents’ life skills and physical activity levels within program sessions. A secondary aim was to determine the acceptability of the SCP. Participants in the SCP (n = 34;89%) participated in a 10-week case study (age = 13.7 ± 1.16;58% girls). Systematic observations of SCP sessions were conducted to determine physical activity levels and a life skills questionnaire was implemented. Acceptability measures included retention, implementation, attendance rates, and interviews with participants [n = 18] and key stakeholders [n = 6]. Systematic observations indicated that Indigenous students were engaged in MVPA for 58% of lesson time. Participants’ life skills remained unchanged (p = 0.93). Interview data showed that Indigenous students and key stakeholders believed the SCP was acceptable. This study highlights the need for partnerships between Indigenous community organisations and schools to design sport-based programs to promote Indigenous adolescents’ MVPA. 展开更多

This research investigates the effectiveness of life skills training on enhancing the self-esteem of 8-16 years-old students with hearing impairment in inclusive schools. The sample was included of 54 students with hearing impairment from inclusive school whom their age and IQ were matched. They were randomly divided into an experimental and a control group (27 students in each group). The participants were assessed by Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (58-items version). The gathered data were analysed using the t-test method through the SPSS package. The results showed that training life skills to students with hearing impairment promote their self-esteem. In other words, life skills training is effective for enhancing the self-esteem of hearing impaired students in inclusive schools. 展开更多

Objective To evaluate the impact of sex and reproductive health education using lifeplanning skills training among senior high school students in a rural county. Methods The study was conducted in three senior high schools of Shangcai County with comparable socio-cultural, economic, and demographic characteristics, two as intervention sites and one as the control. A three-month life-planning skills training course was conducted among all grade one students in the intervention schools. The baseline survey was conducted prior to the intervention, once again three months after the intervention was initiated. Data were collected through questionnaires, FGDs and 1Dis to evaluate the effect of the intervention program. Results After the intervention, the median score of reproductive health knowledge was higher in the intervention group (55.66) than that in control group (38.68). Students from the intervention group were also more comfortable with their developmental changes which were going through, In the end line survey, 92.70% of the students in the intervention group suggested that reproductive health education should be carried out among all middle school students in Shangcai County. Multivariate analysis also indicated that peers and family had a significant effect on students' sex-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. Conclusion Sex and reproductive health education via provision of life-planning skills training can significantly increase students' sex and reproductive health knowl- edge and was welcomed by students, teachers and parents. 展开更多

目的探讨自我管理联合家庭管理干预模式对学龄期支气管哮喘患儿1年内再入院的影响。方法选择2021年5月1日—2023年5月1日医院收治的200例学龄期支气管哮喘患儿及家属作为研究对象,按照组间基于特征可比的原则分为观察组和对照组,各100... 目的探讨自我管理联合家庭管理干预模式对学龄期支气管哮喘患儿1年内再入院的影响。方法选择2021年5月1日—2023年5月1日医院收治的200例学龄期支气管哮喘患儿及家属作为研究对象,按照组间基于特征可比的原则分为观察组和对照组,各100例。对照组应用常规护理干预,观察组采用自我管理联合家庭管理干预模式,观察并比较两组患儿1年内哮喘发作频次与再入院次数、哮喘症状控制情况、儿童哮喘生活质量评分及护理满意度。结果实施自我管理联合家庭管理干预模式后,观察组一年内哮喘发作频次与再入院次数均低于对照组,哮喘症状控制评分高于对照组,差异比较有统计学意义(P<0.05)。干预前,两组儿童哮喘生活质量各维度评分比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);干预后,观察组儿童哮喘生活质量各维度评分均高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。观察组患儿家属护理满意度高于对照组,比较差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论应用自我管理联合家庭管理干预模式,可以有效降低学龄期支气管哮喘患儿1年内哮喘发作频次和再入院次数,并进一步提高患儿哮喘症状控制效果、提升儿童哮喘生活质量和家属的护理满意度。 展开更多

民族地区中学生中华民族认同与生活满意度的关系:积极心理资本的中介作用

中华民族认同既是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的基石,也是促进个体福祉的关键因素。为探索民族地区中学生中华民族认同的特点,中华民族认同与生活满意度的关系及其作用机制,本研究采用《中华民族认同量表》《积极心理资本量表》《生活满意... 中华民族认同既是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的基石,也是促进个体福祉的关键因素。为探索民族地区中学生中华民族认同的特点,中华民族认同与生活满意度的关系及其作用机制,本研究采用《中华民族认同量表》《积极心理资本量表》《生活满意度量表》,通过整群抽样的方法对四川省民族地区三所中学1232名中学生施测。结果表明:民族地区中学生的中华民族认同总体较高,高中生的认同水平显著高于初中生;中华民族认同对民族地区中学生的生活满意度有显著正向预测作用,积极心理资本在二者关系间起部分中介作用,中介效应占比46.15%。可见,中华民族认同不仅能直接改善民族地区中学生的生活满意度,还可以通过提升积极心理资本间接影响民族地区中学生的生活满意度,强化中华民族认同为促进民族地区学生整体福祉铺设了坚实的心理与文化基础。 展开更多

休闲娱乐是中国儿童校外生活的重要组成部分。2023年,中国儿童中心联合首都师范大学中小学生校外教育研究院、北京大学中国社会科学调查中心,在全国范围内开展了儿童校外生活状况调查。基于调查数据,本研究发现:(1)儿童线下休闲娱乐活... 休闲娱乐是中国儿童校外生活的重要组成部分。2023年,中国儿童中心联合首都师范大学中小学生校外教育研究院、北京大学中国社会科学调查中心,在全国范围内开展了儿童校外生活状况调查。基于调查数据,本研究发现:(1)儿童线下休闲娱乐活动丰富多彩,超七成的儿童参与了线下休闲娱乐活动,参与比例最高的是体育锻炼和去公共场所(小区、公园等)玩,参与时长较长的是休息、社会交往和观看表演;(2)儿童线上休闲娱乐活动参与情况值得关注,超六成的儿童参与了线上休闲娱乐活动,参与比例最高的是看视频(电视、电影、动画片、短视频等),参与时长最长的是玩网络游戏;(3)近五成儿童在父母陪同下参与线下休闲娱乐活动;(4)线下和线上休闲娱乐活动普遍受到儿童喜爱,家长则更重视线下休闲娱乐活动;(5)不同性别、学段、地区和家庭背景的儿童参与线下和线上休闲娱乐活动比例和时长具有显著差异性。因此,应加强顶层设计,倡导科学的休闲娱乐方式;关注农村儿童休闲娱乐活动质量改善;重视线下休闲娱乐活动中的同伴交往;加强对儿童线上休闲娱乐活动的监管。 展开更多
