Enhancing Evidence-Based Practice and Critical Thinking Skills of Nursing Students: Lessons from the Review of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Curriculum of the University of Zambia

Background: Making changes in the existing curriculum aims, objectives, course contents learning outcomes and assessment strategies have become a fact of life for nurse educators. Purpose: To enhance the existing Bachelor of Science (BSc) in nursing curriculum through integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) and teaching of critical thinking skills. Materials and Methods: A needs analysis was conducted using a five-phased approach to review the BSc in nursing Curriculum. Kern’s six-step model was adapted and introduced through a series of workshop exercises that highlighted the application of each step: 1) Desk review of the BSc curriculum offered globally;2) Administration of the needs assessment questionnaire to key informants;3) Strengths, weakness, opportunities and threat analysis;4) Consultative meeting with major stakeholders;5) Curriculum review. Results: The five-phased approach established some gaps in existing curricula, and identified critical core competences and best practices in integrating EPB and critical thinking in the BSc undergraduate curriculum and some “A” level content that was not in tandem with the practice of nurses. New courses were developed to support students in academic writing and enhance professionalism and duration of training was reduced from 5 to 4 years. Conclusion: The process demonstrated that BSc curriculum review, in fact, should be thoroughly scrutinized to encourage positive changes to the curriculum, provide opportunities for team building and the development of leadership skills and a whole-of course perspective on the curriculum.

Reform and Practice of the Course“Introduction to Computer Science”in Universities Based on the Cultivation of Computational Thinking and Systematic Abilities

Introduction to Computer Science,as one of the fundamental courses in computer-related majors,plays an important role in the cultivation of computer professionals.However,traditional teaching models and content can no longer fully meet the needs of modern information technology development.In response to these issues,this article introduces the concept of computational creative thinking,optimizes course content,adopts exploratory teaching methods,and innovates course assessment methods,aiming to comprehensively enhance students’computational thinking and innovative abilities.By continuously improving and promoting this teaching model,it will undoubtedly promote computer education in universities to a new level.

Integration of Climate Change into the Senior Secondary School Agricultural Science Curriculum in Nigeria

The study was carried out to identify content areas of climate change for integration into the senior secondary school agricultural science curriculum in countries such as Nigeria. Two research questions were developed and answered by the study while two null hypotheses were formulated and tested. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 441 while the sample was 249. A 34-item structured questionnaire was developed for data collection. The questionnaire items were face-validated by five experts while Cronbach alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency of the items. The copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents with the help of two research assistants. Weighted mean was used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance and 240 degrees of freedom. The findings of the study revealed that four clusters with 23 items were required for integration in the curriculum while 11 materials were identified to help teach the content areas. It was also found that there was no significant (p > 0.05) difference in the mean responses of Lecturers and extension agents on each item in the content areas of climate change and materials for teaching them. The study recommended among others that the clusters and 23 items with the materials identified by the study should be integrated into the agricultural science curriculum for teaching in secondary schools, especially in Nigeria.

Teaching Locally, Engaging Globally to Enhance the Undergraduate Curriculum： A Social Science Research and Evaluation Perspective

The purpose of this project is to reach more students in food, agricultural, and environmental sciences with a globalized undergraduate curriculum, by providing contextually-rich reusable learning objects （RLOs） and authentic case studies that address multidisciplinary issues. Reusable learning objects （RLOs） are self--contained, digital learning activities that range in length from 2 to 15 minutes. RLOs can contain a wide array of media, including text, web sites, charts, maps, models, PowerPoint presentations, photos, case studies, simulations, video clips, audio clips, and assessments, Food and agricultural sciences faculty at the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, and Texas A＆M University have been selected to be part of a Faculty Learning Community that Will work together in curriculum and RLO development, and will participate in an international study experience funded by this project. For each experience, a group of approximately ten faculty and three project team members will spend roughly two weeks in a Latin American/Caribbean basin country. Various social science data collection processes and evaluation strategies will be the focus of the presentation. The use of preflective and reflective instruments to measure initial attitudes or beliefs about the context-rich multidisciplinary experience and expected gains from participating in the curricula development will be demonstrated.

Construction and Quality Assurance of Outstanding Applied Horticultural Talent Training Curriculum System under the Background of New Agricultural Science:A Case Study of Huaiyin Institute of Technology

Huaiyin Institute of Technology is taken as the research object.The content of horticulture curriculum system under the background of new agricultural science is constructed and elaborated,including theoretical curriculum system of"three platforms and seven curriculum groups"and practice system of"two platforms,three levels and four modules".Moreover,the quality assurance strategy of the curriculum system is discussed from three angles of enhancing professional emotion,enhancing professional practice and strengthening innovation ability,to reach the training objective of outstanding applied horticultural talents under the background of new agricultural science.

A research on the school-based curriculums development in collage public art education construction

Based on an analysis of the existing problems of collage public art education in China, the paper discussed the connotation ofXi＇ an physical education University constructing a ＂one foundation and two supplements ＂ public art education curriculums system with its own characteristics and personality, and generalized the principles and concrete measures we should pay attention to during development of school-based curriculum of public art education.

China is the country with pluralistic cultural background of 56 ethnic groups,Manchu is China’s second largest minority,the population is over 10 million.The history of Manchu can be traced back earliest to 7000 years ago,even so,there are not more than 100 Manchu people can speak the Manchu language,the inheritance and development of Manchu culture are in jeopardy.The article focused on how to educate Manchu culture to pupils in Manchu primary school,especially in Manchu schoolbased curriculum,exploring the present situation and effective ways of the development of Manchu school-based curriculum.

本文以对１９９１ 至１９９４ 年到美国作访问学者的中国教育家的调查所得资料为基础，报告了对美国和中国中学理科教育的目标和课程设计所作比较研究的结果。两国理科教育的理想目标相似，但在两国学校里的真正重点颇有差异。在课程设计上，美国理科教育的范围比中国的大，但深度远不如中国。这些差异也反映在课本及课堂活动上。本文还讨论了两国中学理科教育变革的有关问题。

国际科学课程教学方法研究的新世纪图景——基于2000-2016年Web of Science数据库的统计和知识图谱分析

科学课程对于学生理解科学的本质、提高公民科学素养具有重要作用。选取Web of Science数据库2000-2016年4127篇有关科学课程教学方法的论文,运用文献计量学和科学知识图谱的方法,对国际科学课程教学法的研究现状进行统计与可视化分析。研究表明,新世纪以来,科学课程教学方法研究的热点主要围绕概念教学,研究前沿主要围绕科学论证、有意义评价以及学生合作。美国在科学课程研究方面具有绝对的强势地位,而中国尚未形成足够的国际学术影响力。

Continuity of Natural Science Education in the System of“School-University”

At the present time,new state compulsory standards for school education,standard curricula,and curricula have been developed.The programs of higher and postgraduate education do not take into account changes in educational curricula of secondary education.The future specialists of pedagogical universities are teachers of the school.Therefore,graduates of universities on pedagogical specialties,including scientific direction,should be profoundly aware of the content of subjects studied in secondary education.It is very important to understand the need to ensure the continuity of educational curricula of higher pedagogical and general secondary education in conditions of updating the content of education.The relevance of the research topic is due to the lack of continuity in the educational programs of higher pedagogical and general secondary education in conditions of updating the content of education;discrepancy of professional competences of young pedagogical staff,graduates of higher educational institutions,to the conditions of the updated content of school education;the lack of fundamental and applied research to date,considering the theoretical and methodological foundations for ensuring the continuity of natural science education in the“school-university”system in the context of updating the content of education;the need for the research in the context of the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2016-2019,which indicates an increase in the prestige of the profession of teachers and an increase in their quality.These theoretical and methodological bases for ensuring the continuity of educational programs of higher pedagogical and secondary education in conditions of updating the content of education will make it possible to introduce changes in the educational curricula of higher and postgraduate education for the training of pedagogical personnel.

Curriculum and Teaching Reform From the Perspective of Media History

The development history of education is actually a history of the change of media technology.From the perspective of historical development,different periods of media technology have different forms of education.As the two core elements of education,curriculum and teaching are also deeply influenced by the development of media technology.With the continuous emergence of new media,especially in the context of artificial intelligence,the curriculum has experienced the change from attaching importance to subject knowledge to the cultivation of students’innovation ability and core literacy;from static,paper-based,single to dynamic,online and network-based curriculum form;from fixed,unified,limited to personalized,unlimited and open curriculum change is tolerated.Teaching has also experienced two major changes:the optimization of teaching forms and the adjustment of teaching subject role.In order to actively cater to the development of the future science and technology society,the future curriculum and teaching should focus on sustainable development education;focus on the cultivation of key abilities in the 21st century;focus on improving the“three scientific and technological literacy”education;and strengthen the humanistic care of curriculum and teaching.

新农科背景下生物化学与分子生物学“根植三农聚焦融合”的课程思政教学实践

“根植三农聚焦融合”是河南牧业经济学院服务区域农牧产业发展,实现高水平应用型大学发展的重要抓手。生物化学与分子生物学课程是我校涉农专业的学科基础课程,新农科建设过程中学科融合的重要载体。为了新农课背景下课程思政目标的实现,课程组在思政案例凝练上,从学科发展史、三农实践应用、校友优秀案例、生态文明、职业道德与生物伦理等方面,搭建学生“三农”情怀的培养平台;在课程思政案例和实践项目安排上,对接行业发展、三农实践、教师科研、校企合作项目和学生自主创新项目等,建立学生知识应用的“融合”平台,从而实现对学生“根植三农”的情怀培养和“聚焦融合”的能力提升。授课过程中以线上线下混合式教学为主线,将单一的课堂讲授改造为人才培养全周期的参与。在课前的线上布置任务、课中的“六环节”教学和课后的第二课堂等环节中融入思政元素,通过具有一定挑战度、高阶性和创新性的知识应用达到思政目标。通过课程改革,学生在三农行业一线的就业率明显提升,利用学科融合解决三农问题的能力得到有效提升,增强了学生服务“三农”的意识,强化了学生的专业思想,激发了学生利用课程知识服务“三农”实践的内生动力。

基于“课程思政+知识图谱”的材料专业高质量课程建设探索与实践

该研究基于国家级一流本科课程、全国工程专业硕士学位研究生教育在线课程建设项目,和西北工业大学“课程思政”示范课程建设项目以及知识图谱,面向材料专业学生,针对航空航天用高性能金属材料课程,教学过程中的课程思政进行探索与实践,有望从基于知识图谱的新形态课程内容建设、思政内容的挖掘、教学模式和考核方式等几方面,为探索“课程思政+知识图谱”在高等学校工科类材料专业课程中的实现途径提供理论参考。
