Because customers usually lack surface modelling ba...In product concept design, not only designers with professional CAD skills, but also final customers take part in the design and evaluation of product shape styling. Because customers usually lack surface modelling background and are not familiar with concrete operations of commercial CAD systems, it is difficult for them to express their change intentions of product shape through professional CAD tools if they are not satisfied with the current shape design. This paper puts forward a method for creating, dragging and manipulating constraint and load represented in form of icon entity in interactive sculpting of product shape in virtual environment. The method supports customers manipulation of sculpting constraints or loads on sculpting shapes in virtual reality interaction to control the deformation of product shape. Constraints management based on icon entity is similar to spline lofting operation that is familiar to engineers, so users do not need to know surface details or have any professional knowledge of surface modelling, by only using their physical and engineering experience, they can manipulate the sculpting of product shape intuitively.展开更多

The purpose of this work has been to carry out a didactic exhibit at the Botanical Museum of the Department of Life and Environment of the University of Cagliari devoted to vegetal endemic or threatened species presen...The purpose of this work has been to carry out a didactic exhibit at the Botanical Museum of the Department of Life and Environment of the University of Cagliari devoted to vegetal endemic or threatened species present at the Mediterranean Basin. The Ceroplastics （wax sculpting） plays a very important role in this project. Species that have become rare or are somehow threatened in the natural environment and have fortunately been preserved ＂ex situ＂ at the Botanical Garden of Cagliari are reproduced as wax models. Models are made by cutting and shaping wax sheets over the flame of an alcohol lamp. Each model has been created by copying a real specimen cultivated at the Botanical Garden and as a ＂unique piece＂ without using preparatory moulds. The result has been to have at our disposal a collection of very realistic models and magnified particulars as for example the pollen grains. The accuracy of the representation gives visitors the chance to know the considered species by means of the models. In order to preserve the natural heritage it is of the utmost importance that divulgation and information be made available to everyone. The Botanical Museum of the University of Cagliari rediscovers the noble art of wax sculpting, which has been strongly linked to the spreading of scientific knowledge since the XVII century and nowadays it may contribute to raise the citizens＇ awareness of the most common environmental issues.展开更多
Exercise is an essential contributor to both physical and mental health and is a significant part of a person’s overall lifestyle.With the increasing popularity of exercise trackers,researchers were interested in the...Exercise is an essential contributor to both physical and mental health and is a significant part of a person’s overall lifestyle.With the increasing popularity of exercise trackers,researchers were interested in the effects of sham exercise trackers on perceptions of workouts and affect.Researchers predicted participants wearing a sham Fitbit band would report greater perceptions of workout intensity,challenge,and satisfaction compared to those without sham Fitbit bands.In addition,those wearing sham Fitbit bands were predicted to report greater positive affect and lower negative affect than those without bands.One hundred twenty student participants(60 in each group;one group with a sham Fitbit and one group with no Fitbit)were recruited from campus workout classes of Zumba,spinning,and body sculpting.Participants worked out and completed a PANAS survey,plus other workout perception questions.When using a sham Fitbit,participants believed the workout was more intense,physically challenging,and they were more satisfied with their workout.However,presence of a sham Fitbit band did not significantly affect mood.Results suggest that knowledge of wearing an exercise tracker,even without any workout data feedback,has an effect on workout perceptions,but has little effect on mood.展开更多
