This paper presents an investigation of temperature, displacement, stress, and induced magnetic field in a half space perfectly-conductive plate. Finite element equations regarding generalized magneto-thermoelasticity...This paper presents an investigation of temperature, displacement, stress, and induced magnetic field in a half space perfectly-conductive plate. Finite element equations regarding generalized magneto-thermoelasticity problems with two relaxation times (i.e., the G-L theory) are derived using the principle of virtual work. For avoiding numerical complication involved in inverse Laplace and Fourier transformation and low precision thereof, the equations are solved directly in time-domain. As a numerical example, the derived equation is used to investigate the generalized magneto-thermoelastic behavior of a semi-infinite plate under magnetic field and subjecting to a thermal shock loading. The results demonstrate that FEM can faithfully predict the deformation of the plate and the induced magnetic field, and most importantly can reveal the sophisticated second sound effect of heat conduction in two-dimensional generalized thermoelastic solids, which is usually difficult to model by routine transformation methods. A peak can be observed in the distribution of stress and induced front and the magnitude of magnetic field at the heat wave the peak decreases with time, which can not be obtained by transformation methods. The new method can also be used to study generalized piezo-thermoelastic problems.展开更多

The colorless transparent single crystals were grown from the high temperature solut...A new nonlinear optical crystal of sodium terbium borate (Na2.67Tb2.11B3O9, Mr = 573.14) was synthesized by solid reaction method. The colorless transparent single crystals were grown from the high temperature solution by employing NaBO2 as flux. The structure was deter- mined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Amm2 with a = 5.0744(10), b = 10.990(2), c = 6.9078(14) A, V = 385.24(13) A3, Dc = 4.941 g/cm3, F(000) = 250, Z = 2, μ= 9.205 mm-1, the final R = 0.0253 and wR = 0.0610. Its three-dimensional network structure is constructed from isolated BO33-, Na(1)O8, Na(2)O6, Na(3)O6 and Tb(1)O9 polyhedra. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements show the compound is paramagnetic (μj = 7.04 μb). The intensity of the second harmonic generation of Na2.67Tb2.11B3O9 is 2.5 times that of KDP.展开更多
By utilizing the first order behavior of the device,an equation for the frequency of operation of the submicron CMOS ring oscillator is presented.A 5-stage ring oscillator is utilized as the initial design,with differ...By utilizing the first order behavior of the device,an equation for the frequency of operation of the submicron CMOS ring oscillator is presented.A 5-stage ring oscillator is utilized as the initial design,with different Beta ratios,for the computation of the operating frequency.Later on,the circuit simulation is performed from 5-stage till 23-stage,with the range of oscillating frequency being 3.0817 and 0.6705 GHz respectively.It is noted that the output frequency is inversely proportional to the square of the device length,and when the value of Beta ratio is used as 2.3,a difference of 3.64%is observed on an average,in between the computed and the simulated values of frequency.As an outcome,the derived equation can be utilized,with the inclusion of an empirical constant in general,for arriving at the ring oscillator circuit’s output frequency.展开更多
The real-time second harmonic generation was employed to investigate the[2+2]photodimerization of styrylquinoline(SQ) derivatives in Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) monolayers deposited from aqueous subphases with differen...The real-time second harmonic generation was employed to investigate the[2+2]photodimerization of styrylquinoline(SQ) derivatives in Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) monolayers deposited from aqueous subphases with different acidity.It was discovered that the photodimerization rate constant significantly decreased upon the addition of acid.The additional atomic force microscopy measurements revealed that surface morphologies were correlated to the photodimerization kinetics.These experimental results provide direct evidence for the topo-chemical mechanisms of[2+2]photodimerization in LB films.The current study demonstrates that the intermolecular interactions and aggregation structures play important roles in the photochemical properties at surfaces.展开更多
