Worldwide, scarce water resources and substantial food demands require efficient water use and high yield.This study investigated whether irrigation frequency can be used to adjust soil moisture to increase grain yiel...Worldwide, scarce water resources and substantial food demands require efficient water use and high yield.This study investigated whether irrigation frequency can be used to adjust soil moisture to increase grain yield and water use efficiency(WUE) of high-yield maize under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation.A field experiment was conducted using three irrigation intervals in 2016: 6, 9, and 12 days(labeled D6, D9, and D12) and five irrigation intervals in 2017: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days(D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15).In Xinjiang, an optimal irrigation quota is 540 mm for high-yield maize.The D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15 irrigation intervals gave grain yields of 19.7, 19.1–21.0, 18.8–20.0, 18.2–19.2, and 17.2 Mg ha^-1 and a WUE of 2.48, 2.53–2.80, 2.47–2.63, 2.34–2.45, and 2.08 kg m-3, respectively.Treatment D6 led to the highest soil water storage, but evapotranspiration and soil-water evaporation were lower than other treatments.These results show that irrigation interval D6 can help maintain a favorable soil-moisture environment in the upper-60-cm soil layer, reduce soilwater evaporation and evapotranspiration, and produce the highest yield and WUE.In this arid region and in other regions with similar soil and climate conditions, a similar irrigation interval would thus be beneficial for adjusting soil moisture to increase maize yield and WUE under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation.展开更多
Proportional, integral and derivative (PID) control strategy has been widely applied in heating systems in decades. To improve the accuracy and the robustness of PID control, self-tuning radial-basis-function neural n...Proportional, integral and derivative (PID) control strategy has been widely applied in heating systems in decades. To improve the accuracy and the robustness of PID control, self-tuning radial-basis-function neural network PID (RBF-PID) is developed and used. Even though being popular, during the control process both of PID and RBF-PID control strategy are inadequate in achieving simultaneous high energy-efficiency and good control accuracy. To address this problem, in this paper we develop and report an enhanced self-tuning radial-basis-function neural network PID (e-RBF-PID) controller. To identify the superiority of e-RBF-PID, following works are conducted and reported in this paper. Firstly, four controllers, i.e., on-off, PID, RBF-PID and e-RBF-PID are designed. Secondly, in order to test the performance of the e-RBF-PID controller, an experimental water heating system is constructed for being controlled. Finally, the energy consumption for the four controllers under the three control scenarios is investigated through experiments. The experimental results indicate that in the three scenarios, the developed e-RBF-PID controller outperforms on-off controller as having higher accuracy. Compared to the PID controller, the e-RBF-PID controller has higher speed in control, and the experimental results show that settling time savings is between 12.6% - 49.0%. Most importantly, less control energy consumption is obtained if using the e-RBF-PID controller. It is found that up to 28.5% energy consumption can be saved. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed e-RBF-PID is capable of enhancing energy efficiency during control process.展开更多

The application of self-reconfigurable batteries can resolve the challenge of efficient renewable storage in solar-powered installations. In this paper, the problem of solar panel’s Maximum Power Point (MPP) tracking utilizing self-reconfigurable batteries is explored through modeling. The efficiency of energy storage is improved by removing the intervening DC/DC converter, which is usually necessary for solar PV applications. To make such a system functional, a Switching Battery Management System (SBMS) is proposed instead of a traditional couple of DC/DC converter and usual BMS. This system allows the series connection of multiple battery modules of different sizes, States-of-Charge (SoC), and States-of-Health (SoH). Two main challenges arise by the proposed implementation: tracking MPP of solar panels through battery cell switching and maintaining an equal (balanced) SoC of the separate cells/modules. The theoretical investigation includes developing the distinct software parts: digital twins of the battery module and solar PV modules that interact with the SBMS and the algorithm according to which the proposed SBMS will operate. The SBMS algorithm, based on sorting the battery cells according to their SoC, resolves both challenges. Having this promising theoretical starting point, a working prototype was developed. The prototype worked as expected and was tested under field conditions, being integrated into the power grid as part of a virtual power plant.展开更多
AIM:To investigate the clinical advantages of the stent-laparoscopy approach to treat colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with acute colorectal obstruction(ACO).METHODS:From April 2008 to April 2012,surgeryrelated paramete...AIM:To investigate the clinical advantages of the stent-laparoscopy approach to treat colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with acute colorectal obstruction(ACO).METHODS:From April 2008 to April 2012,surgeryrelated parameters,complications,overall survival(OS),and disease-free survival(DFS)of 74 consecutive patients with left-sided CRC presented with ACO who underwent self-expandable metallic stent(SEMS)placement followed by one-stage open(n=58)or laparoscopic resection(n=16)were evaluated retrospectively.The stent-laparoscopy group was also compared with a control group of 96 CRC patients who underwent regular laparoscopy without ACO between January 2010 and December 2011 to explore whether SEMS placement influenced the laparoscopic procedure or reduced long-term survival by influencing CRC oncological characteristics.RESULTS:The characteristics of patients among these groups were comparable.The rate of conversion to open surgery was 12.5%in the stent-laparoscopy group.Bowel function recovery and postoperative hospital stay were significantly shorter(3.3±0.9 d vs 4.2±1.5 d and 6.7±1.1 d vs 9.5±6.7 d,P=0.016 and P=0.005),and surgical time was significantly longer(152.1±44.4 min vs 127.4±38.4 min,P=0.045)in the stent-laparoscopy group than in the stent-open group.Surgery-related complications and the rate of admission to the intensive care unit were lower in the stent-laparoscopy group.There were no significant differences in the interval between stenting and surgery,intraoperative blood loss,OS,and DFS between the two stent groups.Compared with those in the stentlaparoscopy group,all surgery-related parameters,complications,OS,and DFS in the control group were comparable.CONCLUSION:The stent-laparoscopy approach is a feasible,rapid,and minimally invasive option for patients with ACO caused by left-sided CRC and can achieve a favorable long-term prognosis.展开更多

Increasing complexity of distributed hydrological model (DHM) has lowered the efficiency of convergence.In this study,global sensitivity analysis (SA) was introduced by combining multiobjective (MO) optimization...Increasing complexity of distributed hydrological model (DHM) has lowered the efficiency of convergence.In this study,global sensitivity analysis (SA) was introduced by combining multiobjective (MO) optimization for DHM calibration.Latin Hypercube-once at a time (LH-OAT) was adopted in global parameter SA to obtain relative sensitivity of model parameter,which can be categorized into different sensitivity levels.Two comparative study cases were conducted to present the efficiency and feasibility by combining SA with MO(SA-MO).WetSpa model with non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-Ⅱ (NSGA-Ⅱ) algorithm and EasyDHM model with multi-objective sequential complex evolutionary metropolis-uncertainty analysis (MOSCEM-UA)algorithm were adopted to demonstrate the general feasibility of combining SA in optimization.Results showed that the LH-OAT was globally effective in selecting high sensitivity parameters.It proves that using parameter from high sensitivity groups results in higher convergence efficiency.Study case Ⅰ showed a better Pareto front distribution and convergence compared with model calibration without SA.Study case Ⅱ indicated a more efficient convergence of parameters in sequential evolution of MOSCEM-UA under the same iteration.It indicates that SA-MO is feasible and efficient for high dimensional DHM calibration.展开更多

Consequently, in this paper a self-interference elimination by physical feedback channel in CCFD for 3-D Beamforming communication scheme is proposed to improve the over-all system performance in terms of energy and spectrum efficiency. Self healing exploring secondary precipitation in the Al-Mg-Si alloy and use of low melting metallic...Experimental studies to demonstrate self healing potentials of Al-Mg-Si alloy were undertaken in this research work. Self healing exploring secondary precipitation in the Al-Mg-Si alloy and use of low melting metallic alloy reinforcement (60Sn-40Pb alloy) were used as basis for the investigation. For the precipitation study, the Al-Mg-Si alloy was under-aged at temperature of 160oC for 10 minutes and then subjected to second step ageing treatment at four different temperatures within the range of 25oC and 70oC. In the 60Sn-40Pb alloy reinforced Al-Mg-Si alloy study, the samples were prepared in pre-cracked state and then subjected to healing heat-treatment at 250oC. For all cases tensile test and healing efficiency was used to analyze the results generated. It was observed that a second step thermal ageing at 50oC resulted in peak improvement in tensile strength, yield strength, toughness and percent elongation while ageing above this temperature lead to a drop in the tensile properties in comparison to that of the sample not subjected to a second ageing treatment. Also the use of 60Sn-40Pb alloy as reinforcement in the Al-Mg-Si alloy resulted in a healing efficiency of 91% after pre-cracking and heat-treatment. The satisfactory bonding between the 60Sn-40Pb alloy and the Al-Mg-Si alloy matrix contributed to the high healing efficiency observed.展开更多

Currently, the latest FD media access control(MAC) protocols mainly focus on how to convert the physical layer gains of FD nodes to the throughput gain of wireless FD networks, but pay little attention to the energy consumptions of FD nodes. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient FD MAC protocol. According to the values of self-interference cancellation coefficients corresponding to the nodes of each FD pair and the signal propagation attenuation, the proposed protocol can adaptively select the communication mode of the FD pair between the full-duplex and half-duplex. Also, the minimum transmit power for FD nodes can be obtained to achieve high energy efficiency. We develop an analytical model to characterize the performance of our protocol. The numerical results show that the proposed MAC protocol can optimize the system throughput and reduce the transmission energy consumptions of nodes simultaneously as compared with those of the existing works.展开更多

The parameters of coefficient of mineral self-desiccation-effect ka nd efficient water to binder ratio r(e) were proposed, and experimental results were fitted non-linearly and analyzed using these proposed parameters. The experimental results indicate that ARH reduction of concrete at different ages increases with the decrease of m(W)/m(B). The ARH changes laws of concrete with m(W)/m(B) lower than 0.4 can be expressed with a non-linear equation. The extent of the effect of types and addition content of mineral admixures on ARH reduction of concrete resulting from self-desiccation can be reflected by the non-linear equation with the parameter of efficient water to binder ratio r(e) effectively.展开更多

Adeno-associated virus (AAV), a nonpathogenic human parvovirus, has gained attention as a potentially safe vector for gene transfer and gene therapy. The AAV genome is a single-stranded DNA, which is transcriptionally inactive. It has been reported that viral second-strand DNA synthesis is the rate-limiting step in AAV-mediated transgene expression. Self-complementary adeno-associated viral(scAAV) vectors bypass the requirement for viral second-strand DNA synthesis, and lead to a significant increase in transduction efficiency, scAAV vectors have been successfully constructed by Xiao and Smulski in the USA in 2003. 文摘Increasing complexity of distributed hydrological model (DHM) has lowered the efficiency of convergence.In this study,global sensitivity analysis (SA) was introduced by combining multiobjective (MO) optimization for DHM calibration.Latin Hypercube-once at a time (LH-OAT) was adopted in global parameter SA to obtain relative sensitivity of model parameter,which can be categorized into different sensitivity levels.Two comparative study cases were conducted to present the efficiency and feasibility by combining SA with MO(SA-MO).WetSpa model with non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-Ⅱ (NSGA-Ⅱ) algorithm and EasyDHM model with multi-objective sequential complex evolutionary metropolis-uncertainty analysis (MOSCEM-UA)algorithm were adopted to demonstrate the general feasibility of combining SA in optimization.Results showed that the LH-OAT was globally effective in selecting high sensitivity parameters.It proves that using parameter from high sensitivity groups results in higher convergence efficiency.Study case Ⅰ showed a better Pareto front distribution and convergence compared with model calibration without SA.Study case Ⅱ indicated a more efficient convergence of parameters in sequential evolution of MOSCEM-UA under the same iteration.It indicates that SA-MO is feasible and efficient for high dimensional DHM calibration.

文摘The 3-D beamforming scheme has elite as evolving interest because of its efficiency to empower assorted techniques such as vertical and horizontal domains and emanation beamforming according to subscriber's provisions. Usually, 3-D beamforming communication is set up on FDD/TDD approach those effects on the performance of spectrum and energy efficiency. Co-frequency and CoTime Full Duplex(CCFD) is an effective solution to improve the spectrum and energy efficiency by transmitting and receiving simultaneously in frequency and time domain. While, CCFD communication often face the self-interference issue when communication occurs, simultaneously. Consequently, in this paper a self-interference elimination by physical feedback channel in CCFD for 3-D Beamforming communication scheme is proposed to improve the over-all system performance in terms of energy and spectrum efficiency. The simulation and analytical outcomes demonstrated that the proposed system is superior than the traditional one.

文摘This paper describes the self—adjustment of some tuning-knobs of the generalized predictive controller(GPC).A three feedforward neural network was utilized to on line learn two key tuning-knobs of GPC,and BP algorithm was used for the training of the linking-weights of the neural network.Hence it gets rid of the difficulty of choosing these tuning-knobs manually and provides easier condition for the wide applications of GPC on industrial plants.Simulation results illustrated the effectiveness of the method.
文摘Experimental studies to demonstrate self healing potentials of Al-Mg-Si alloy were undertaken in this research work. Self healing exploring secondary precipitation in the Al-Mg-Si alloy and use of low melting metallic alloy reinforcement (60Sn-40Pb alloy) were used as basis for the investigation. For the precipitation study, the Al-Mg-Si alloy was under-aged at temperature of 160oC for 10 minutes and then subjected to second step ageing treatment at four different temperatures within the range of 25oC and 70oC. In the 60Sn-40Pb alloy reinforced Al-Mg-Si alloy study, the samples were prepared in pre-cracked state and then subjected to healing heat-treatment at 250oC. For all cases tensile test and healing efficiency was used to analyze the results generated. It was observed that a second step thermal ageing at 50oC resulted in peak improvement in tensile strength, yield strength, toughness and percent elongation while ageing above this temperature lead to a drop in the tensile properties in comparison to that of the sample not subjected to a second ageing treatment. Also the use of 60Sn-40Pb alloy as reinforcement in the Al-Mg-Si alloy resulted in a healing efficiency of 91% after pre-cracking and heat-treatment. The satisfactory bonding between the 60Sn-40Pb alloy and the Al-Mg-Si alloy matrix contributed to the high healing efficiency observed.

文摘The wireless full-duplex(FD) nodes can transmit and receive at the same time using the same frequency-band. Currently, the latest FD media access control(MAC) protocols mainly focus on how to convert the physical layer gains of FD nodes to the throughput gain of wireless FD networks, but pay little attention to the energy consumptions of FD nodes. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient FD MAC protocol. According to the values of self-interference cancellation coefficients corresponding to the nodes of each FD pair and the signal propagation attenuation, the proposed protocol can adaptively select the communication mode of the FD pair between the full-duplex and half-duplex. Also, the minimum transmit power for FD nodes can be obtained to achieve high energy efficiency. We develop an analytical model to characterize the performance of our protocol. The numerical results show that the proposed MAC protocol can optimize the system throughput and reduce the transmission energy consumptions of nodes simultaneously as compared with those of the existing works.
文摘Effects of water to binder ratio (m(W)/m(B)), types and addition content of mineral admixtures ont he autogenous relative humidity (ARH) change of concrete resulting from self-desiccation were studies. The parameters of coefficient of mineral self-desiccation-effect ka nd efficient water to binder ratio r(e) were proposed, and experimental results were fitted non-linearly and analyzed using these proposed parameters. The experimental results indicate that ARH reduction of concrete at different ages increases with the decrease of m(W)/m(B). The ARH changes laws of concrete with m(W)/m(B) lower than 0.4 can be expressed with a non-linear equation. The extent of the effect of types and addition content of mineral admixures on ARH reduction of concrete resulting from self-desiccation can be reflected by the non-linear equation with the parameter of efficient water to binder ratio r(e) effectively.

文摘Gene therapy is a form of molecular medicine that promises to provide new treatments for a large number of inherited and acquired diseases. One of the biggest stumbling blocks to successful widespread application of genetic treatments is the development of safe and effective vectors with which to ferry genetic material into cells. Adeno-associated virus (AAV), a nonpathogenic human parvovirus, has gained attention as a potentially safe vector for gene transfer and gene therapy. The AAV genome is a single-stranded DNA, which is transcriptionally inactive. It has been reported that viral second-strand DNA synthesis is the rate-limiting step in AAV-mediated transgene expression. Self-complementary adeno-associated viral(scAAV) vectors bypass the requirement for viral second-strand DNA synthesis, and lead to a significant increase in transduction efficiency, scAAV vectors have been successfully constructed by Xiao and Smulski in the USA in 2003. Recently, we have developed and packaged scAAV, and reported as following.
