An Intrusion Alarming System Based on Self-Similarity of Network Traffic

Intrusion detection system ean make effective alarm for illegality of networkusers, which is absolutely necessarily and important to build security environment of communicationbase service According to the principle that the number of network traffic can affect the degree ofself-similar traffic, the paper investigates the variety of self-similarity resulted fromunconventional network traffic. A network traffic model based on normal behaviors of user isproposed and the Hursl parameter of this model can be calculated. By comparing the Hurst parameterof normal traffic and the self-similar parameter, we ean judge whether the network is normal or notand alarm in time.

On the Self-Similarity in Biological Processes

We show that the processes described by Avrami functions are self-similar. A comparative function characterizes a self-similar process by a certain Avrami exponent. We define the self-similar categories of some well-known biological processes. The method to determine the Avrami exponent by choosing the comparative function is demonstrated on the diffusion model of the growth of nuclei. We generalize the results.

EXTENDED SELF SIMILARITY OF PASSIVE SCALAR IN RAYLEIGH-BNARD CONVECTION FLOW BASED ON WAVELET TRANSFORM

Wavetet transform was used to analyze the scaling law of temperature data (passive scalar) in Rayleigh-Bénard convection flow from two aspects. The first one was to utilize the method of extended self similarity, presented first by Benzi et al., to study the scaling exponent of temperature data. The obtained results show that the inertial range is much wider than that one determined directly from the conventional structure function, and find the obtained scaling exponent agrees well with the one obtained from the temperature data in an experiment of wind tunnel. The second one was that, by extending the formula which was proposed by A. Arneodo et al. for extracting the scaling exponent ζ(q) of velocity data to temperature data, a newly defined formula which is also based on wavelet transform, and can determine the scaling exponent ξ(q) of temperature data was proposed. The obtained results demonstrate that by using the method which is named as WTMM (wavelet transform maximum modulus) ξ(q) correctly can be extracted.

Study of Self-Similarity in Variable Bit Rate Video Sources

Variable bit rate(VBR)video will be the predominant application in the future's multimedia communication networks.Understanding the characteristics of VBR video is important for us to utilize network resources effectively.A brief description of MPEG 1 video sources is given.The essentials of self similarity and long range dependence are also presented.Furthermore,some methods of estimating Hurst parameter are described in details.We analyze an hour long MPEG 1 video trace,and the details of statistical results are discussed.The results highlight that the trace generated by MPEG 1 code has both the short range dependence and long range dependence structures.

Measurement of Characteristic Self-Similarity and Self-Diversity for Complex Mechanical Systems

Based on similarity science and complex system theory,a new concept of characteristic self-diversity and corre- sponding relations between self-similarity and self-diversity for complex mechanical systems are presented in this paper.Methods of system self-similarity and self-diversity measure between main system and sub-system are studied.Numerical calculations show that the characteristic self-similarity and self-diversity measure method is validity.A new theory and method of self-similarity and self- diversity measure for complexity mechanical system is presented.

A MODEL OF RANDOM PARTICLES CONSTRUCTED BY THE PRINCIPLE OF SELF-SIMILARITY AND ITS APPLICATION

A model of random particles constructed by the operation of self-similarity in fractalgeometry is presented.The correlation function of the number density has been obtained andcan be used conveniently in theoretical study and computer simulation for wave interaction withrandom media.As an example,this model has been applied to calculate analytically the rangedependence of volume scattering in radar echoes.The result agrees with that of Rastogi andScheucher’s simulation.

Some Results on the Upper Convex Densities of the Self-Similar Sets at the Contracting-Similarity Fixed Points

In this paper, some results on the upper convex densities of self-similar sets at the contracting-similarity fixed points are discussed. Firstly, a characterization of the upper convex densities of self-similar sets at the contracting-similarity fixed points is given. Next, under the strong separation open set condition, the existence of the best shape for the upper convex densities of self-similar sets at the contracting-similarity fixed points is proven. As consequences, an open problem and a conjecture, which were posed by Zhou and Xu, are answered.

Self Similarity of the Spherical C-S-H Particle in Cement Paste

Cement paste with low water/cement ratio of 0.3 was observed using AFM. It is found that C-S-H has self similarity trait from scanning scale 20 um×20 um down to 300 nm× 300 nm, and the feature of C-S-H at large scale is very similar to those smaller scales. It can be concluded that C-S-H is composed with some fundamental spherical globule, the fundamental globules agglomerate into bigger ones, moreover the bigger ones agglomerate into even bigger one. A C-S-H globule fractal model was put forward to describe the self similarity of the C-S-H globule, which can be used to reveal how the C-S-H globule contacts with each other.

Self-similarity Based Editing of 3D Surface Textures Using Height and Albedo Maps

This paper presents an inexpensive method for self-similarity based editing of real-world 3D surface textures by using height and albedo maps. Unlike self-similarity based 2D texture editing approaches which only make changes to pixel color or inten- sity values, this technique also allows surface geometry and reflectance of the captured 3D surface textures to be edited and relit us- ing illumination conditions and viewing angles that differ from those of the original. A single editing operation at a given location affects all similar areas and produces changes on all images of the sample rendered under different conditions. Since surface height and albedo maps can be used to describe seabed topography and geologic features, which play important roles in many oceanic proc- esses, the proposed method can be effectively employed in applications regarding visualization and simulation of oceanic phenom- ena.

SIMILARITY SOLUTION OF SELF-WEIGHT CONSOLIDATION PROBLEM FOR SATURATED SOIL

A more general assumption than that in the classical one-dimensional large strain consolidation theory is adopted and the exact analytical solution of nonlinear finite strain self-weight consolidation based on this assumption is obtained. By applying the same experimental data, the comparison of the solutions of linear and nonlinear finite strain theory, as well as the numerical calculating results based on finite element method is presented. The results of the comparison show that the analytical solution obtained here takes on better agreement with practical cases than that of linear one, and they also show that, compared with the solutions based on nonlinear theory, the settlement and the consolidation degree based on linear theory are smaller.

Another Important Parameter’s Research on Estimating Self-Similarity

It is convincingly demonstrated by numerous studies that the self-similarity of modern multimedia network traffic is presented by Hurst parameter (H). The specific performance is that the similar degree is higher along with the increase of H when H is between 0.5 and 1. However, it is doubtable that whether the complicated process of self-similarity can be described comprehensively by the parameter H only. Therefore, another important parameter cf has been proposed based on the discrete wavelet decomposition in this paper. The significance of the parameters is provided and the performance of the self-similarity process is described better.

MERGING AND SPLITTING SECOND-ORDER SELF-SIMILAR PROCESSES (TRAFFICS)

Recent traffic measurements in corporate LANs, Variable Bit Rate (VBR) video sources, ISDN control channels, and other communication systems, have indicated traffic behavior of self similar nature, which has implications for design, control and analysis of high speed networks. Merging and splitting are two basic networking operations. This paper gave the necessary and sufficient conditions for that merging of second order self similar traffic streams also results in a second order self similar stream. It shows that splitting traffic streams of the second order self similar stream are still self similar streams by the independent splitting operation.

Spatiotemporal self-similar solutions for the nonautonomous (3+1)-dimensional cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation

With the help of similarity transformation, we obtain analytical spatiotemporal self-similar solutions of the nonautonomous （3＋1）-dimensional cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation with time-dependent diffraction, nonlinearity, harmonic potential and gain or loss when two constraints are satisfied. These constraints between the system parameters hint that self-similar solutions form and transmit stably without the distortion of shape based on the exact balance between the diffraction, nonlinearity and the gain/loss. Based on these analytical results, we investigate the dynamic behaviours in a periodic distributed amplification system.

ON THE SELF-SIMILAR SOLUTIONS OF THE MAGNETO-HYDRO-DYNAMIC EQUATIONS

In this paper, we show that, for the three dimensional incompressible magnetohydro-dynamic equations, there exists only trivial backward self-similar solution in L^p（R^3） for p ≥ 3, under some smallness assumption on either the kinetic energy of the self-similar solution related to the velocity field, or the magnetic field. Second, we construct a class of global unique forward self-similar solutions to the three-dimensional MHD equations with small initial data in some sense, being homogeneous of degree -1 and belonging to some Besov space, or the Lorentz space or pseudo-measure space, as motivated by the work in [5].

MULTIRESOLUTION ANALYSIS, SELF-SIMILAR TILINGS AND HAAR WAVELETS ON THE HEISENBERG GROUP

In this article, the properties of multiresolution analysis and self-similar tilings on the Heisenberg group are studied. Moreover, we establish a theory to construct an orthonormal Haar wavelet base in L^2（H^d） by using self-similar tilings for the acceptable dilations on the Heisenberg group.

SELF-SIMILAR SOLUTIONS TO THE HYPERBOLIC MEAN CURVATURE FLOW

This article concerns the self-similar solutions to the hyperbolic mean curvature flow （HMCF） for plane curves, which is proposed by Kong, Liu, and Wang and relates to an earlier proposal for general flows by LeFloch and Smoczyk. We prove that all curves immersed in the plane which move in a self-similar manner under the HMCF are straight lines and circles. Moreover, it is found that a circle can either expand to a larger one and then converge to a point, or shrink directly and converge to a point, where the curvature approaches to infinity.
