Edge computing oriented virtual optical network mapping scheme based on fragmentation prediction

As edge computing services soar,the problem of resource fragmentation situation is greatly worsened in elastic optical networks(EON).Aimed to solve this problem,this article proposes the fragmentation prediction model that makes full use of the gate recurrent unit(GRU)algorithm.Based on the fragmentation prediction model,one virtual optical network mapping scheme is presented for edge computing driven EON.With the minimum of fragmentation degree all over the whole EON,the virtual network mapping can be successively conducted.Test results show that the proposed approach can reduce blocking rate,and the supporting ability for virtual optical network services is greatly improved.

Since humanity entered the 20th century,diversity has become a key feature that manifests itself in all aspects of society.As a venue for people and ideas to meet,universities face ever-increasing challenges in fulfilling their cultural mission.With unprecedented human connectivity,cultural competence is more than a goal.It has become an essential skill for students and a key concern for policymakers and practitioners across the world.Considering the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches to cultural competence education,this article aims to elucidate the significance of the notion of cultural self-awareness proposed by Fei Xiaotong,China’s premier social anthropologist.It explores how Fei’s insights can facilitate universities to rethink their conception and delivery of cultural competence education.By challenging the tendency for cultural competence education to be segregated among a range of disciplines and moving it to the core of the university’s curricular offerings,the article promises an approach whereby all students,regardless of their disciplinary backgrounds,can benefit from the full development of their cultural capability,as can the institution,wider community,and society as a whole.

The Evolution of Theory of Mind in the Human Evolution

Despite almost half a century of research for theory of mind, its evolutionary origin is largely unknown. This paper proposes that the evolutionary origin of theory of mind starts from the beginning of the human evolution to form hominins through bipedalism and the mixed habitat. The feet of the early hominins were still adapted for grasping trees rather than walking for long distances and running fast on the ground. The early hominins lived in the mixed habitat of grassy woodland with patches of denser forest, and freshwater springs. The difficulty of walking in the mixed habitat leads to division of labor for the home specialist group (small children, old people, and mothers with small children, and pregnant women) in the safe forest area and the exploration specialist group (young people without the care of small children) in the dangerous open area. The different tasks, attitudes, and mentalities in different specialist groups produce theory of mind as the ability to attribute different mental states to different specialist groups. (Uniformity of mind instead of theory of mind is for generalists without division of labor). The early Homo species with the open habitat developed theory of mind for hunter specialist group and gatherer specialist group. The middle Homo species with complex stone tools developed theory of mind for the cooperative specialist groups in the large production of complex stone tools. The late Homo species with complex social interaction developed theory of mind for mind reading to enhance cooperation and to detect cheaters in complex social interaction. For religion, the unusually harsh Upper Paleolithic Period developed theory of mind for imaginary specialists in terms of supernatural power, guidance, and comfort. Therefore, the three general types of theory of mind are for specialists in division of labor, mind reading in complex social interaction, and imaginary specialists in imaginary division of labor under harsh conditions. Self-awareness in the mirror self-recognition test is also explained.

A Study on Order Reconstruction via Dialogue in The Joy Luck Club

While much research on The Joy Luck Club has been studied through grand lens,like feminism,or cultural factors,trauma,etc.,little research has been conducted to highlight self-consciousness and conflicts that are reflected in their seemingly endless dialogues between the four mothers and their daughters throughout the novel.Using dialogue from Bakhtin’s polyphony theory,the present study investigates precisely how it works to awaken self-consciousness in all of them;how their understanding and connection are restored,and eventually how exactly right decisions are made for their daughters in marriage.The findings show that,after numerous dialogues between mothers and daughters,their self-awareness has become clearer,their relations are mended,the right decisions are made,and eventually the order in every aspect is reconstructed.The study calls for greater attention to the embodiment of dialogues in The Joy Luck Club,and how they work effectively and profoundly at every level,and at last how they fulfill the reconstruction of orders in certain aspects.

Numerous studies conducted on educational leadership have generally emphasized the role of principal,whereas,research on middle leadership remains limited[1].The purpose of this paper is to explore and investigate the development of middle leadership and seeks to fill in the gap by providing the analysis from a Chinese context.The author found that middle leaders are positioning at a challenging role,in which they are required to take charge of responsibilities of both a leader and a teacher,and in the meantime,they also need to negotiate between the senior leader,the colleagues.and subordinates.Furthermore,personal factors such as self-awareness and resilience are discovered to be pivotal for middle-leadership development.Apart from that,the principal plays a critical role in establishing collaborative school culture that facilitates the development of middle leaders based on the influences from the school’s history,culture,and policies.

Cross-cultural education is often understood to mean acquiring cultural knowledge about different cultural groups in order to serve people from diverse groups equitably.However,this article argues that to work effectively in cross-cultural situations,we need to learn about our own culture and develop an approach of respectful curiosity.The first goal of cross-cultural education is to understand how culture influences our thoughts,perceptions,biases,and values at an unconscious level.The second goal is to understand the nature of individual cultural identity as a multidimensional and dynamic construct through exploration of our own cultural identity.This exploration helps us understand the limitations of learning about‘others’through learning categorical information and helps us limit the effect of our implicit biases on our interactions.The approach of respectful curiosity is recommended to question our assumptions,understand each unique individual patient,connect with each patient,and build the therapeutic relationship.

Network parameters awareness for routing discovery in autonomic optical Internet

The article proposes a network parameter-awareness （NPA） method and applies it to routing discovery algorithms in autonomic optical Internet. This NPA method can perceive the main parameters of the network, such as delay, jitter and traffic, which can represent the current situation of the network. And these parameters enable network to determine the appropriate nodes for routing discovery. The simulation results of evaluating performance of a network with NPA method and its routing applications show that the method and its applications in routing improve the performance of the network significantly with quality of service （QoS） guaranteed.

Numerical Investigation of Ultrasonic Guided Wave Dynamics in Piezoelectric Composite Plates for Establishing Structural Self-Sensing

This article presents a numerical investigation of guided wave generation, propagation, interaction with damage, and reception in piezoelectric composite plates for the purpose of establishing structural self-awareness.This approach employs piezoelectric composite materials as both load bearing structure and sensing elements.Finite element modal analysis of a plate cell with Bloch-Floquet boundary condition(BFBC) is performed to understand the wave propagation characteristics in piezoelectric composite plates. A comparative study is carried out between a standard composite plate and a piezoelectric composite plate to highlight the influence of piezoelectricity on guided wave dispersion relations. Subsequently, a transient dynamic coupled-field finite element model is constructed to simulate the procedure of guided wave generation, propagation, interaction with damage, and reception in a piezoelectric composite plate. Active sensing array is designed to capture the structural response containing the damage information. Three engineering scenarios, including a pristine case, a one-damage-location case and a two-damage-location case, are considered to demonstrate the ultrasonic sensing capability of the piezoelectric composite system. Finally, time-reversal method is utilized to locate and image the damage zones. This research shows that piezoelectric composite material possesses great potential to establish structural self-awareness, if it serves both as the load bearing and structural sensing components.
