It does not abate there, as Jamaicans are reporting more health conditions in a 4-week period (15.5% in 2007) and at the same time this corresponds to a decline in the percentage of people seeking medical care. Older people’s health status is of increasing concern, given the high rates of prostate cancer, genitourinary disorders, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and the presence of risk factors such as smoking. Yet, there is a dearth of studies on the health status of older people in the two poor quintiles. This study examined 1) the health status of those elderly Jamaicans who were in the two poor quintiles and 2) factors that are associated with their health status. A sample of 1,149 elderly respondents, with an average age of 72.6 years (SD = 8.7 years) were extracted from a total survey of 25,018 Jamaicans. The initial survey sample was selected from a stratified probability sampling frame of Jamaicans. An administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. Descriptive statistics were used to examine background information on the sample, and stepwise logistic regression was used to ascertain the factors which are associated with health status. The health status of older poor people was influenced by 6 factors, and those factors accounted for 26.6% of the variability in health status: Health insurance coverage (OR = 13.90;95% CI: 7.98-24.19), age of respondents (OR = 7.98;95% CI: 1.02-1.06), and secondary level education (OR=1.82;95% CI: 1.35-2.45). Males are less likely to report good health status than females (OR = 0.56;95% CI: 0.42-0.75). Older people in Jamaica do not purchase health insurance coverage as a preventative measure but as a curative measure. Health insurance coverage in this study does not indicate good health but is a proxy of poor health status. The demand of the health services in Jamaica in the future must be geared towards a particular age cohort and certain health conditions, and not only to the general population, as the social determinants which give rise to inequities are not the same, even among the same age cohort.展开更多

It further examines the relationship between power distance orientation, core self-evaluation (CSE) and leadership preferences. The study finds that contemporary Chinese employees most prefer moral leadership, but are also highly receptive to transformational leadership. They prefer authoritarian leadership least. Moreover, preferences for authoritarian leadership are predicated on followers' power distance orientation. However, the opposite is true for moral leadership. CSE is positively related to followers' preference for authoritarian leadership, benevolent leadership and transformational leadership, but not except for moral leadership. A positive interaction effect is found between power distance orientation and CSE with regard to authoritarian leadership preference. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.展开更多

Based on self-determination theory, we argue that such a relationship is sequentially mediated by psychological empowerment and core self-evaluations. In addition, political skill plays a moderating role in the third stage. These hypotheses are validated by a sample of 65 leaders and 275 subordinates from two private enterprises in China's Mainland. Results show that authentic leadership Clime I) influences employees' proactive behavior Clime 3) through the psychological empowerment (Time I) and core self-evaluations of employees (Time 2), and the relationship between core self-evaluations and proactive behavior is positively moderated by employees' political skill. In addition, bootstrapping results also verify the moderating role played by employees' political skill in the indirect relationship between authentic leadership and proactive behavior through core self-evaluations. Theoretical and managerial implications are further discussed in the light of these findings.展开更多

Methods After randomization half the face of twenty volunteers was treated twice daily for two months with the oligopeptide-20 cream (0.003% w/w, 300 ppm) and the other half with the vehicle. Skin bioengineering was used to estimate the effects on human skin. Results The average number and width of wrinkles (Sew, 11.7%, p < 0.05) and cyclic average roughness (cR3, 12.2%, p < 0.005) were improved. Sesc parameter, indicative of stratum corneum dehydration was affected almost equally by the oligopeptide and the vehicle cream (p < 0.1). Volunteers noted statistically significant improvement regarding fine wrinkles and skin brightness on the peptide treated side, whereas the skin smoothness was improved on both sides. No significant changes in pigmentation measured by Mexameter were recorded. No significant changes in transepidermal water loss values were demonstrated, indicating oligopeptide-20 does not affect the skin barrier. No serious adverse or side effects were observed. Additionally, the oligopeptide cream was not irritant according to 48 hr semi-occluded patch test. Conclusion Oligopeptide-20 could be a useful and safe ingredient of anti-aging cosmetics.展开更多

In our university, hearing or visually impaired students are studying to be technicians after they graduate, toward social independence. From previous experience of higher education for students with disabilities, effects are increased when modeling is used by the teachers involved in professional education. In the Mechanical Engineering Course, we are using modeling, to match the drawing and shape for beginning students. It includes support for enhancing one's view, and how to draw out the ability of mechanical engineering students for the basics. For students to study Mechanical Design and Drawing, Modeling of Gear Pump, Jack and Globe Valve are easily shown through drawings and the operation of each mechanism through sample drawings in the textbook. It is possible to make an opportunity to think about the machine mechanism. It will be shown by students' works. The assembling of the model triggers the need for form accuracy by making a function, and improves the quality of learning. It is possible that a three-dimensional molding machine can be produced through experiential learning by the model, and modeling with the dimension numerical data. Moreover, it is also embodied in a three-dimensional modeling which results in the image processing programming created. Confirming the improvement of the program through the shape with the quality. In the Department of Synthetic Design, students have chances to realize and self-evaluate from the design of the lamp shade with a complicated shape. In the Faculty of Health Science from Department of Health, high quality teaching of visually-impaired students through the use of bone model teaching materials has become possible in the medical-related courses.展开更多

Theoretical and managerial implications are further discussed in the light of these findings.
文摘Nowadays, there are a lot of challenges for global processing in countries economic companies. One of the important reasons is lack of changes that must be with world-class technology for making a competition in industry, and another important reason is lack of organized distinction for managers. Most of high rank managers don't have good points for charging and worry about it. In this essay, there have been excellence organized model of EFQM and Iran national quality award which are compared by a case study, and finally, it has suggested using a native model.
文摘Background Oligopeptide-20 acts as positive regulator of cell proliferation and increases collagen and hyaluronic acid levels in keratinocyte and fibroblast cultures. Conclusion Oligopeptide-20 could be a useful and safe ingredient of anti-aging cosmetics.
文摘The National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology(NTUT) is the only institute of higher education for the hearing and the visually impaired in Japan. In the Faculty of Health Science from Department of Health, high quality teaching of visually-impaired students through the use of bone model teaching materials has become possible in the medical-related courses.

文摘Although upconversion nanoparticle(UCNP)-based luminescence resonance energy transfer(LRET)has attracted intensive attention, its application in sensing strategies for biomacromolecule detection is still limited due to the low energy-transfer efficiency. Here,we develop an energy pumping strategy to enhance the upconversion LRET efficiency of UCNP from 3.6% to 70.3%.Surface collector dye cyanine-3(Cy3)is modified on the UCNP surface to concentrate the scattered emission energy from interior UCNP to particle surface and then further pumped to the surface extended acceptor.Using caspase-3 as a target, its recognition and cleavage of QSY7-labeled peptide co-assembled on UCNP-Cy3 leads to the release of QSY7 to recover Cy3 fluorescence.Owing to the multiple emissions of UCNP,this system can be integrated with another surface collector to enhance reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation for photodynamic therapy(PDT).Caspase-3,as a PDT product,is imaged in situ with an internal standard to self-evaluate the PDT effect.
文摘Along with the“massification”of higher education in China since the late 1990s,the issue of quality and excellence appeared at the top of China's higher education agenda.Since faculty evaluation of teaching is one of the major approaches adopted by China's higher education sector to pursue quality and excellence,it is valuable to examine the effectiveness of faculty evaluation of teaching practices adopted by the Chinese higher education institutions(HEIs).Study of current literature reveals some similarities and differences between the faculty evaluation of teaching policies and practices between Chinese and American higher education sectors. This paper examines the specific practices adopted by some top-tier Chinese HEIs and American elite colleges and universities, summarizes and analyzes the major differences and similarities of faculty evaluation of teaching practices between these two countries'top-tier HEIs,and discusses the applicability of the American models to the Chinese setting of higher education. Finally,a set of best practices regarding faculty evaluation of teaching are proposed for Chinese HEIs.
