A launching system with a filter cartridge structure was proposed to improve the muzzle velocity of the projectile.The combustion chamber of the launching system is divided into two fixed chambers,one is located in the breech chamber,and the other is arranged in the barrel.The breech chamber charge was ignited first,and the charges in the auxiliary chambers were ignited by the high-temperature,highpressure combustible gas trailing the projectile.In this way,the combustible gas in the auxiliary chambers could compensate for the pressure drop caused by the movement of the projectile.The proposed device features the advantage of launching a projectile with high muzzle velocity without exceeding the maximum pressure in the chamber.In order to obtain some internal ballistic characteristics of the launch system,some critical structure,such as the length of the filter cartridge auxiliary charge,the combustion degree of the propellant in the chamber,and the length of the barrel,are discussed.The experimental results show that with the increased auxiliary charge length,a pressure plateau or even a secondary peak pressure can be formed,which is less than the peak pressure.The projectile velocity increased by 23.57%,14.64%,and 7.65%when the diaphragm thickness was 0 mm,1 mm,and2 mm,respectively.The muzzle velocity of the projectile can be increased by 13.42%by increasing the length of the barrel.Under the same charge condition,with the increase of barrel length,the energy utilization rate of propellant increases by 28.64%. 展开更多

The controllable transfer of droplets on the surface of objects has a wide application prospect in the fields of microfluidic devices,fog collection and so on.The Leidenfrost effect can be utilized to significantly reduce motion resistance.However,the use of 3D structures limits the widespread application of self-propulsion based on Leidenfrost droplets in microelectromechanical system.To manipulate Leidenfrost droplets,it is necessary to create 2D or quasi-2D geometries.In this study,femtosecond laser is applied to fabricate a surface with periodic hydrophobicity gradient(SPHG),enabling directional self-propulsion of Leidenfrost droplets.Flow field analysis within the Leidenfrost droplets reveals that the vapor layer between the droplets and the hot surface can be modulated by the SPHG,resulting in directional propulsion of the inner gas.The viscous force between the gas and liquid then drives the droplet to move. 展开更多

This work focuses on numerically studying hydrodynamic interaction between a passive particle and a self-propelled particle,termed a squirmer,by using a two-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method(LBM).It is found that the squirmer can capture a passive particle and propel it simultaneously,provided the passive particle is situated within the squirmer's wake.Our research shows that the critical capture distance,which determines whether the particle is captured,primarily depends on the intensity of the squirmer's dipolarity.The stronger dipolarity of squirmer results in an increased critical capture distance.Conversely,the Reynolds number is found to have minimal influence on this interaction.Interestingly,the passive particle,when driven by the squirmer's wake,contributes to a reduction in the squirmer's drag.This results in a mutual acceleration for both particles.Our findings can provide valuable perspectives for formulating the principles of reducing the drag of micro-swimmers and help to achieve the goal of using micro-swimmers to transport goods without physical tethers. 展开更多

A CombustionModel for Explosive Charge Affected by a Bottom Gap in the Launch Environment

Launch safety of explosive charges has become an urgent problem to be solved by all countries in the world aslaunch situation of ammunition becomes consistentlyworse.However, the existing numericalmodels have differentdefects. This paper formulates an efficient computational model of the combustion of an explosive charge affectedby a bottom gap in the launch environment in the context of the material point method. The current temperatureis computed accurately from the heat balance equation, and different physical states of the explosive charges areconsidered through various equations of state. Microcracks in the explosive charges are described with respectto the viscoelastic statistical crackmechanics (Visco–SCRAM) model. Themethod for calculating the temperatureat the bottomof the explosive charge with respect to the bottomgap is described. Based on this combustionmodel,the temperature history of a Composition B (COMB) explosive charge in the presence of a bottom gap is obtainedduring the launch process of a 155-mm artillery. The simulation results show that the bottom gap thickness shouldbe no greater than 0.039 cm to ensure the safety of the COM B explosive charge in the launch environment. Thisconclusion is consistent with previous results and verifies the correctness of the proposed model. Ultimately, thispaper derives amathematical expression for themaximumtemperature of the COMB explosive chargewith respectto the bottomgap thickness (over the range of 0.00–0.039 cm), and establishes a quantitative evaluationmethod forthe launch safety of explosive charges.The research results provide some guidance for the assessment and detectionof explosive charge safety in complex launch environments. 展开更多

How to effectively evaluate the firing precision of weapon equipment at low cost is one of the core contents of improving the test level of weapon system.A new method to evaluate the firing precision of the MLRS considering the credibility of simulation system based on Bayesian theory is proposed in this paper.First of all,a comprehensive index system for the credibility of the simulation system of the firing precision of the MLRS is constructed combined with the group analytic hierarchy process.A modified method for determining the comprehensive weight of the index is established to improve the rationality of the index weight coefficients.The Bayesian posterior estimation formula of firing precision considering prior information is derived in the form of mixed prior distribution,and the rationality of prior information used in estimation model is discussed quantitatively.With the simulation tests,the different evaluation methods are compared to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.Finally,the experimental results show that the effectiveness of estimation method for firing precision is improved by more than 25%. 展开更多

Research of capture mechanisms with strong capture adaptability and stable grasp is important to solve the problem of launch and recovery of torpedo-shaped autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs).A multi-loop coupling capture mechanism with strong adaptability and high retraction rate has been proposed for the launch and recovery of torpedo-shaped AUVs with different morphological features.Firstly,the principle of capturing motion retraction is described based on the appearance characteristics of torpedo-shaped AUVs,and the configuration synthesis of the capture mechanism is carried out using the method of constrained chain synthesis.Secondly,the screw theory is employed to analyze the degree of freedom(DoF)of the capture mechanism.Then,the 3D model of the capture mechanism is established,and the kinematics and dynamics simulations are carried out.Combined with the capture orientation requirements of the capture mechanism,the statics and vibration characteristics analyses are carried out.Furthermore,considering the capture process and the underwater working environment,the motion characteristics and hydraulics characteristics of the capture mechanism are analyzed.Finally,a principle prototype is developed and the torpedo-shaped AUVs capture experiment is completed.The work provides technical reserves for the research and development of AUV capture special equipment. 展开更多

This paper begins with a discussion on the significance of multi-physical fields in the research of railgun launching mechanism, followed by an introduction of research work about dynamic measurements and numerical simulations. The application of some measurement methods including the atomic emission spectrum, fiber-optic strain, optical level, pulsed X-ray, and high-speed video in observing the launching process was introduced. The models about the electromechanical dynamic processes and multi-physical fields in a railgun were developed. The mechanisms of the grooving, arc transition, and gouging were analyzed. These work provided a deeper understanding of launching mechanism of electromagnetic railgun. Some issues about the tactical railgun, such as the fiber composite overwrapped barrel, recoil,loading modes and eddy current loss were also discussed. For characterizing a series augmented railgun launching process,the simulation and experiment were done.In the experiment,only observation of muzzle voltage,current and armature position were insufficient to analyze launching process deeply since armature velocity,resistance force and voltage drop of armature were also important to the launching process.In the present work,based on MATLAB/SIMULINK software platform,the simulation model was built,and the dynamic characteristics of system were simulated.Furthermore,the variations of armature velocity,total resistance force and voltage drop of armature against time were investigated based on the data of B-dot probes(to measure position of armature),Rogowsky coil(to monitor current) and high voltage probes(to observe muzzle voltage).The results indicated that,the voltage drop of armature and the total resistance force showed roughly regulartendency.There were obvious stages observed in the two-turn series augmented railgun launching process. 展开更多

We consider the classification of wake structures produced by self-propelled fish-like swimmers based on local measurements of flow variables.This problem is inspired by the extraordinary capability of animal swimmers in perceiving their hydrodynamic environments under dark condition.We train different neural networks to classify wake structures by using the streamwise velocity component,the crosswise velocity component,the vorticity and the combination of three flow variables,respectively.It is found that the neural networks trained using the two velocity components perform well in identifying the wake types,whereas the neural network trained using the vorticity suffers from a high rate of misclassification.When the neural network is trained using the combination of all three flow variables,a remarkably high accuracy in wake classification can be achieved.The results of this study can be helpful to the design of flow sensory systems in robotic underwater vehicles. 展开更多

Numerical simulation and control of self- propelled swimming of two- and three-dimensional biomimetic fish school in a viscous flow are investigated. With a parallel computational fluid dynamics package for the two- and three-dimensional moving boundary problem, which combines the adaptive multi-grid finite volume method and the methods of immersed boundary and volume of fluid, it is found that due to the interactions of vortices in the wakes, without proper control, a fish school swim with a given flap- ping rule can not keep the fixed shape of a queue. In order to understand the secret of fish swimming, a new feedback con- trol strategy of fish motion is proposed for the first time, i,e., the locomotion speed is adjusted by the flapping frequency of the caudal, and the direction of swimming is controlled by the swinging of the head of a fish. Results show that with this feedback control strategy, a fish school can keep the good order of a queue in cruising, turning or swimming around circles. This new control strategy, which separates the speed control and direction control, is important in the construction of biomimetic robot fish, with which it greatly simplifies the control devices of a biomimetic robot fish. 展开更多

Ship resistance issues are related to fuel economy,speed,and cost efficiency.Air lubrication is a promising technique for lowering hull frictional resistance as it is supposed to modify the energy in the turbulent boundary layer and thereby reduce hull friction.In this paper,the objective is to identify the optimum type of air lubrication using microbubble drag reduction(MBDR)and air layer drag reduction(ALDR)techniques to reduce the resistance of a 56-m Indonesian self-propelled barge(SPB).A model with the following dimensions was constructed:length L=2000 mm,breadth B=521.60 mm,and draft T=52.50 mm.The ship model was towed using standard towing tank experimental parameters.The speed was varied over the Froude number range 0.11–0.31.The air layer flow rate was varied at 80,85,and 90 standard liters per minute(SLPM)and the microbubble injection coefficient over the range 0.20–0.60.The results show that the ship model using the air layer had the highest drag reduction up to a maximum of 90%.Based on the characteristics of the SPB,which operates at low speed,the optimum air lubrication type to reduce resistance in this instance is ALDR. 展开更多

Understanding the mechanism of coalescence-induced self-propelled jumping behavior provides distinct insights in designing and optimizing functional coatings with self-cleaning and anti-icing properties.However,to date self-propelled jumping phenomenon has only been observed and studied on superhydrophobic surfaces,other than those hydrophobic surfaces with weaker but fairish water-repellency,for instance,vulcanized silicon rubber(RTV) coatings.In this work,from the perspective of thermodynamic-based energy balance aspect,the reason that self-propelled jumping phenomenon does not happen on RTV coatings is studied.The apparent contact angles of droplets on RTV coatings can be less than the theoretical critical values therefore cannot promise energy surplus for the coalesced droplets onside.Besides,on RTV and superhydrophobic surfaces,the droplet-size dependent variation characteristics of the energy leftover from the coalescence process are opposite.For the droplets coalescing on RTV coatings,the magnitudes of energy dissipations are more sensitive to the increase in droplet size,compared to that of released surface energy.While for superhydrophobic coatings,the energy generated during the coalescence process can be more sensitive than the dissipations to the change in droplet size. 展开更多

The aim of this investigation is to research the initial ignition of the underwater-launching solid rocket motor.The MIXTURE multiple-phase model was set to simulate the initial ignition.The water vaporization was researched and the energy transfer was added to the energy equations.The flow field and the vaporization were calculated coupled.The initial ignition process of the underwater solid rocket motor is obtained and the vaporization influence to the underwater launching is analyzed.The "neck","inverted jet" and "eruption" phenomenon of the bubble are observed.The bubble increases more rapidly because the steam mass added to the fuel.The temperature is lower considering the vaporization because the steam enthalpy is lower than the fuel enthalpy and the flow field of the initial ignition of the underwater-launching solid rocket motor is accordant well to the reference. 展开更多

To study the properties of a new surface-type infrared decoy,the numerical dispersion model and the infrared radiance model of the plates are established. In addition,the temperature of a single plate was measured during combustion experiment,and the spatial position and infrared radiance of each plate are calculated in plate cloud by the two models respectively. Furthermore,the radar images of the plate cloud are simulated and analyzed in dependence of time and direction for single and multiple launching. The result shows that the surface-type infrared decoy can be a point source of interference when the missile is remote tracking. In the meanwhile,the plates cloud shelters the infrared characteristics of the plume and jets of aircraft when the missile is on IR imaging guidance mode. Moreover,With the analysis of the plate cloud dispersion at different intervals and the infrared radiation intensity in the case of different launching number,it can be concluded that a comfortable launching interval can maintain a continuous plate cloud,launching the decoys simultaneously increase the increment of the radiation intensity obviously,the multiple launching is an effective way to enhance the interference property of the decoy. 展开更多

For calculating the wave and current loads on upright small-long-size pipe, the Morrison equation is practical and applied. Jacket platform is a kind of offshore space frame structure comprised of lots of poles that are circular cylinders with small diameter and in the oblique status relative to seabed. In this paper, based on Morrison equation, the specific method and procedure calculating the wave and current loads on launching jacket are given and applied on a typical launching jacket. The instance shows that the method and procedure are convenient and make the calculation and analysis in good agreement with actual launching. 展开更多

The common methods for functional impor- tant product determination, failure modes and effect analysis ( FMEA ) and logic decision analysis were illustrated and the basic methods for maintenance interval calculation models were studied based on availability.
