Due to their reproducibility, social interaction, and involvement, these rustic videos adhere to the fundamental logic of the propagation of online memes. Rustic videos are widely disseminated as online memes on TikTok (the Chinese version), are often reproduced and used by young people in social contact, and have become a unique linguistic symbol in modern internet culture. As a symbolic carrier that transports the consciousness of the video creator and viewer, it is widely employed in the communication and engagement of young people on a regular basis, progressively altering their linguistic expression. This specific semiotic interaction has deconstructed and recreated the conventional media culture spectacle. This research examines the influence of rustic videos on TikTok on the linguistic expressions of modern youth from the perspectives of meme theory and semiotics, as well as the impact of rustic videos on the media spectacle from the standpoint of media spectacle theory. It also examines in depth the effects of the popularity of rustic videos on China’s economy and culture.展开更多

The emergence of forensic semiotics as part of this interdisciplinary amalgam is relatively unknown among both criminologists and semioticians. This paper provides an overview of the main objectives of forensic semiotics and its importance to the study of crime. One of the premises of forensic semiotics is that there is a thematic and interpretive continuity between actual crimes and their fictional representations. Actually, contemporary semiotics itself can be seen to start with Peirce's interest in detective fiction, from which he developed several of his key ideas, including the theory of abduction. This paper also discusses some case studies that have been carried out under the rubric of forensic semiotics, which indicate the relevance of semiotic analysis to the study of crime.展开更多

文摘Marx’s profound analysis of such social signs as commodity, money, and capital shows that inversion and negation are universal and rule-governed social signs and that social signs attain historical characteristics in certain social formations. The basic contradiction arising from human practice,i.e.,their contradictory movement of objectification and nonobjectification,is determined by the dialectical nature of practice, that is,by the relationship of negativity as a medium, and is the concrete expression of the dialectics of negativity in signs. The critique of social semiotics from the perspective of historical materialism is based on practice and reality, and points to the future;it is revolutionary and constructive. At present, the scientific construction of social semiotics can not only promote the development of semiotics, but can also be an important step in deepening historical materialism.
文摘Ecological semiotics belongs to the field of culture, and biological semiotics refers to biology. There are both similarities and differences between ecological semiotics(ecosemiotics)and biological semiotics(biosemiotics)."Co-existence and co-prosperity"are the highest true meaning of human beings and nature.Faced with the increasingly serious ecological crisis, human beings,as the only semiotic animal that can reflect on sign activities, are ultimately responsible for other species and the entire ecological community.
文摘Semiotics is one of the core concepts in contemporary philosophy, linguistics and many other ideological fields.Although it is a new discipline founded in the 20th century, researchers from both the East and the West have studied the phenomena of symbols for a long time.Western semiotics came into existence as a new discipline during the 1960s,whose origin could be traced back to ancient Greek philosophy. In ancient China, there was no concept of semiotics, but Chinese ancestors practiced divination by some special symbols, which might be considered the sprouts of semiotics. Those methods in divination were called Lianshanyi in the Xia Dynasty and Guizangyi in the Shang Dynasty. In the Zhou Dynasty, the forms of divinations and their explanations were more plentiful, which were collectively called Zhouyi, posing as"the leading classics and the source of‘Tao’".The study on Zhouyi found that its symbolic concepts possessed explainable relevance to those in Western semiotics represented by Saussure,Peirce and Morris, especially between the three key elements:"hexagram image","hexagram judgment"and"hexagram meaning"in Zhouyi corresponding to the three core formulas:"Sign=Signifier+Signified","Sign=Relation(Medium,Object,Interpret)"and"M=ME+MP+MF"of Western semiotics. The study suggested that exploration into the symbolic concepts of ancient Chinese philosophical classics might provide new perspectives for the interpretation of Western semiotics.
文摘Semiotics, mostly as a theory of meaning, has a long history both in China and in the West.Although there had been little interaction between these two independent traditions before the 20th century,we can fi nd some interesting similarities and differences in their semiotic thoughts that continue to influence how we conceptualize things today.Contemporary China, for example,is widely seen as being characterized by a Marxist epistemology which was imported from the West, but a close examination shows that this dominant theory of knowledge is as much a product of its own native tradition of ontological realism propounded by Ouyang Jian 17 centuries ago. With the advent of globalization of semiotics in the 20th century,Chinese and Western scholars are now able to take direct advantage of each other’s theoretical resources which often result in new insights critical to the advancement of human knowledge. Two examples of such East-West interaction are Peirce’s trichotomy of signs being appropriated for the classification of Chinese characters and Qian Zhongshu’s"sides-andhandles theory of metaphor"serving as a critique of the bewildered and bewildering cognitive science championed by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. It is in this sense that semiotics is becoming increasingly global or cross-cultural on top of its interdisciplinary trademark.
文摘The scientific study of crime comes under the general categories of forensic science and criminology, which include a large set of related branches, from forensic psychology to computer forensics. This paper also discusses some case studies that have been carried out under the rubric of forensic semiotics, which indicate the relevance of semiotic analysis to the study of crime.
文摘Charles Morris constructs his semiotics on the basis of scientific empiricism. The latter is the combination of three schools of thought, namely, formalism, empiricism and pragmatism. The former similarly consists of three parts, i.e., syntactics, semantics and pragmatics. The three philosophical schools of thought contribute to the three major components of Morris' s semiotics.
