In November 25,the awards ceremony for the 2023 Panda Cup Foreign Student Essay Contest took place at the Zhejiang University of Media and Communications(ZUMC)in Hangzhou,capital of east China’s Zhejiang Province.Attending the ceremony were Gao Anming,vice president and editor-in-chief of China International Communications Group(CICG),Luo Lili,a leading member of the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Government Information Office,Zhao Jun,editor-in-chief of the CICG Center for the Asia-Pacific(CICG Asia-Pacific),Xu Rong,editor-in-chief of the Foreign Languages Press(FLP),and Yang Liping,secretary of the Party Committee of the ZUMC.Also attending were representatives of the award-winning foreign students,their teachers,and the media.

National Image Construction from the Perspective of Multimodal Metaphor-A Case Study of the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics

The national image is a comprehensive concept with a distinct political feature,including the international image presented to the outside world,and also encompassing the national identity of the people.With the development of globalization,international cultural communication has become a crucial part of shaping the national image,and the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics has become an important opportunity for China to showcase its national image to the world in the post-pandemic era.Based on Forceville’s multimodal metaphor theory,this paper examines the metaphorical phenomena contained in the performance and their functions,effects,and purposes in the construction of the national image.It is found that there are many scenes,images,and narratives in the opening ceremony,including war metaphor,competition metaphor,personification metaphor,and other conceptual metaphors.The focus of this paper is on multimodal metaphor in a broad sense,mainly encompassing auditory and visual modes.Through the use of these multimodal metaphors,the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics builds an image of a vibrant,peace-loving,and responsible country,which not only demonstrates China’s cultural self-confidence,but also expresses the Chinese people’s beautiful vision for the early reunification of the motherland.

Changes in Japanese Nurses’ Awareness of Patient Interactions Following a Japanese Tea Ceremony

This study provided foundational data for use in nursing interventional methods for improving nurse-patient relationships. This was a descriptive study on the effectiveness of a Japanese tea ceremony (in Japanese: chado) intervention for improving nurse-patient relationships. I conducted a Japanese tea ceremony and examined changes in nurses’ awareness regarding interactions with patients after this intervention. The tea ceremonies were conducted with the cooperation of an Urasenke tea ceremony lecturer. A quiet environment with chairs and tables was provided for all participants while they provided written answers to a descriptive survey, which was administered before and after the intervention;they required approximately 20 min to complete the survey. The mean length of each nurse’s description was 800 characters. The tea ceremony was effective in bringing about definite changes in nurses’ awareness concerning interactions with patients. This study is useful in that it suggests how nurses can maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients.

Philosophical and Aesthetic Significance of Ceremonial and Anniversary Cloth Designs of Three Ghanaian Universities

The study concemed itself with the philosophical and aesthetic evaluation of selected ceremonial and anniversary designed cloths of three Ghanaian universities. The study, which was qualitative in nature, specifically sought to identify, describe, examine and analyse the design patterns of ceremonial and anniversary cloths, appraise their aesthetic values and significance in relation to the ideals, and philosophies of the institutions. The sampled cloth designs were discussed and analysed in descriptive form. The research revealed that there are several symbolic meanings attached to the corporate identities that sum up the objectives, ideals, values and philosophies of the institutions and corporate cloth design, whether for anniversary, ceremony or otherwise serves as an element of social cohesion.

THE Wanshou Zen Temple in Jingshan Mountains,Hangzhou City,east China’s Zhejiang Province,is known for its distinctive tea ceremony.It is a tea drinking ceremony combining Zen philosophy and tea culture to honor distinguished guests.The ceremony originated in the middle of the Tang Dynasty (618-907),flourished in the Song (960-1279)and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties,and was later introduced to Japan where it became the origin of the Japanese tea ceremony.The beautiful Jingshan District has always been renowned for tea.The "Sage of Tea" Lu Yu of the Tang Dynasty used to stay here,and the place was also the inspiration of his monumental work,The Classic of Tea,the first known book in the world featuring the cultivation,preparation,and drinking of tea.

A Contrastive Pragmatic Study on Chinese and American MCs' Prologues at Film Awards Ceremonies

This essay, picking two typical cases and applying several pragmatic principles, makes a contrastive study on the similarities and differences between Chinese and American MCs'prologues, especially conversations at film awards ceremonies. Based upon a summary of the features of the MCs'prologues, then follow some possible reasons for the similarities and differences, which further arouse thoughts on practical implications and suggestions.

Post-occupancy Evaluation for Ceremonial and Public Buildings： A Case Study of Amman City Hall, Jordan

POE （post-occupancy evaluation） of buildings is one of the most important mechanisms which ensures that ceremonial and public building performance including its facilities is sustained. POE studies concerned with efficiency of building performance after using and implementing with the end-user. It provides feedback on the current status of the building and proposes solutions to existing problems in addition to guidelines and design criteria for the best solutions in the future. Despite precedent research which have been undertaken in the context of building performance, aspects of evaluating building performance have not been specified and used widely in Jordan. At the commencement of this research, the concept of POE is still new in Jordan, and the local building practitioners are still unfamiliar with this approach for the evaluation of a building performance in Amman. Accordingly, there is a need to undertake this kind of research in Jordan to identify the main guidelines of POE to be applied effectively in ceremonial and public buildings. This study therefore applies POE of indoor environment of the public buildings by exploring the guidelines that can constitute a successful and effective framework for the public buildings in Amman. This was achieved using the learnt lessons from Amman City Hall building which was used as a case study and reflecting them on these where needed. Analytical and descriptive approach basis was applied, adopting a mixed method approach （qualitative and quantitative method） by using observation tool and a questionnaire survey with occupants. Context-derived data and statistics analyzed together were used to explore the guidelines of POE to be applied effectively in public buildings. A field visit and observation tool was adopted for gathering information leading to the findings and recommendations. A questionnaire was also used to extrapolate core findings of this research. This research provides a significant contribution of POE result towards improving indoor environment to ceremonial and public buildings in Jordan.
