An online TL (transmission line) impedance TPIS (transmission line parameter identification system) using PMU (phasor measurement unit) was recently developed and implemented at CSG (china southern power grid company), Traditional approaches for TL impedance calculation only approximate the effect of conductor sags and ignore the dependence of impedances on temperature variation. Utilizing PMU measurements may improve the accuracy of TL parameters calculation. The challenge is that the parameters identified are very sensitive to noise and errors in PMU measurements, which are difficult to quantify and can be uncertain under different system operating/loading condition, TPIS provides an innovative yet practical problem formulation for TL sequence parameter estimation based on least-squares with linear constraints. A bootstrapping-based resampling technique is developed and a new metric is proposed to determine the credibility of the estimated sequence impedances. This paper discusses the proposed methodologies, challenges, as well as implementation issues identified during the development of TPIS. 展开更多

Grid-forming control(GFC)is promising for power electronics based power systems with high renewable energy penetration.Naturally, the impedance modeling for GFC is necessary and has gained significant attention recently. However, most of the impedance analyses for GFC are based on a twolevel converter(TLC)rather than a modular multilevel converter(MMC).MMC differs from TLC with respect to its dominant multi-frequency response. It is necessary to analyze the impedance of GFC-based MMC owing to its superiority in highvoltage direct current(HVDC)transmission to interlink two weak AC systems with high renewable energy penetration. As the main contribution, this paper presents the AC-and DC-side impedance analyses for the GFC-based MMC with both power and DC voltage control using the harmonic transfer function(HTF),and compares the impedances of GFC-based MMC and TLC.It is inferred that although the impedance is mainly influenced within 200 Hz,the instability still could occur owing to negative resistance triggered by relatively larger parameters. The difference in AC-side impedance with power and DC voltage control is not apparent with proper parameters, while the DC-side impedance differs significantly. The generalized Nyquist criterion is necessary for AC-side stability owing to the relatively large coupling terms under GFC.Moreover, the coupling between AC-and DC-side impedances is noneligible, especially considering the DC-side resonance around the system resonant peak. The effects of parameters, system strength, and virtual impedance on the impedance shaping are analyzed and verified through simulations. 展开更多

The coordinated control of parallel three-phase fourwire converters in autonomous AC microgrids is investigated in this paper.First, based on droop control, virtual impedance is inserted in positive-,negative-and zero-sequences to enhance system damping and imbalance power sharing. Then,to facilitate virtual impedance design, small signal models of the three-sequence equivalent circuits are established respectively.Corresponding indexes are proposed to comprehensively evaluate the impact of sequence virtual impedance on current sharing accuracy, voltage quality at the point of common coupling(PCC)and system stability. In addition, constraint of DClink voltage is also considered to avoid over modulation when subjected to unbalanced loads.Furthermore,to address the PCC voltage degradation resulting from virtual impedance,a voltage imbalance compensation method, based on low-bandwidth communication,is proposed. Finally, simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the correctness of the theory model, indicating that the proposed method can achieve PCC voltage restoration while guaranteeing the current sharing accuracy with desirable dynamics. 展开更多

In recent years,sub/super-synchronous oscillations occur frequently in large-scale wind power bases throughout China.Since the oscillation frequencies are close to the fundamental frequency, the current components can spread over a large area, and may destroy the shafting of rotating devices in the power grid.Improving the control strategy and parameters of wind turbines can prevent this problem to some extent, however, due to complex operational conditions and continuous development of wind power, the off-line improvement measures on wind turbines cannot eliminate the potential oscillation risks. This paper proposes an oscillation risk screening and stability assessment method, and develops a coordination control method for large-scale wind farm systems to prevent sub/supersynchronous oscillations. The Nyquist criterion and the modal analysis method are combined to generate quantitative factors for the stability assessment and the control strategy design. The coordination control method consists of minute-level power coordinated allocation and second-level fast power control to prevent and eliminate the oscillations.A detailed simulation model of a multiple wind farms system originated from an actual wind power base in China is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多
