Noise generated by merchant ships elevates natural occurring ambient noise level by 20-30 dB in many areas of the world's ocean. In order to model the contributions of the noise generated by merchant ships to underwater ambient noise level correctly, a database that consists of the source levels as a function of frequency for different types of ships is essential. This paper describes the conceptual design, with an emphasis on the characteristics of shipping noise as sound sources, of a marine noise database. It was developed for providing necessary parameters for underwater ambient noise modelling. The parameters relevant to shipping noise modelling are organized in two catalogues: (l) source-receiver geometry related parameters, namely the coordinates of the ships at a given time period, as well as the sizes/types of the ships from which the noise source depths may be derived, and (2) acoustically relevant parameters, i.e., the acoustic SLs (source levels) at given frequencies. An example is presented here to demonstrate the efficacy of this database. The study area is a 117 × 55 km2 region off the coast of La Spezia, Italy, in the Mediterranean Sea.展开更多

Providing solutions to reduce thermal IR intensity radiation is one of the appropriate actions in passive defense for identifying power and targeting enemy. Therefore, questions are brought up: How much is the thermal IR intensity radiation of surface of the hall’s vessel? How much is the effect of each parameter? This thesis tries to provide the software to answer these questions. The provided software measures thermal IR intensity radiation of the surface of the hall’s vessel by the material substance, the temperature of the surface of the hall’s vessel, the situation and characteristic of the thermal detector, noticing the coefficient of environment atmospheric transmittal. This software by changing the effective parameters on thermal IR radiation calculates the thermal radiation on thermal detector in different situations.展开更多

The chaotic trajectory of Duffing oscillator is analyzed and the state equation of the system is improved to detect weak periodic signals in different frequencies. According to the simulation results, the phase transforms of Duffing oscillator are sensitive to periodic signals and immune to the random noise and the periodic interference signals which have larger angular frequency difference from the referential signal. By employing Lyapunov exponents in the field of detection as the criteria for chaos, the phase transforms of dynamic behaviors in quantity are successfully determined. Meanwhile, the threshold value in critical state has been evaluated more accurately. Based on the phase transforms of Duffing oscillator, a new method for detecting line spectrum of ship-radiated noise is given. Three types of ship-radiated noise signals are analyzed and the values of line spectrum are acquired successfully by this method. The experimental results show that this method has high sensitivity and high resolution.展开更多
