Numerical Simulation of the Settling Flux of Biodeposition in a Bay with Cage Culture Through Similarity Theory and a Simplified Pollution Source

The settling flux of biodeposition affects the environmental quality of cage culture areas and determines their environmental carrying capacity.Simple and effective simulation of the settling flux of biodeposition is extremely important for determining the spatial distribution of biodeposition.Theoretically,biodeposition in cage culture areas without specific emission rules can be simplified as point source pollution.Fluent is a fluid simulation software that can simulate the dispersion of particulate matter simply and efficiently.Based on the simplification of pollution sources and bays,the settling flux of biodeposition can be easily and effectively simulated by Fluent fluid software.In the present work,the feasibility of this method was evaluated by simulation of the settling flux of biodeposition in Maniao Bay,Hainan Province,China,and 20 sampling sites were selected for determining the settling fluxes.At sampling sites P1,P2,P3,P4,P5,Z1,Z2,Z3,Z4,A1,A2,A3,A4,B1,B2,C1,C2,C3 and C4,the measured settling fluxes of biodeposition were 26.02,15.78,10.77,58.16,6.57,72.17,12.37,12.11,106.64,150.96,22.59,11.41,18.03,7.90,19.23,7.06,11.84,5.19 and 2.57 g d^(−1)m^(−2),respectively.The simulated settling fluxes of biodeposition at the corresponding sites were 16.03,23.98,8.87,46.90,4.52,104.77,16.03,8.35,180.83,213.06,39.10,17.47,20.98,9.78,23.25,7.84,15.90,6.06 and 1.65 g d^(−1)m^(−2),respectively.There was a positive correlation between the simulated settling fluxes and measured ones(R=0.94,P=2.22×10^(−9)<0.05),which implies that the spatial differentiation of biodeposition flux was well simulated.Moreover,the posterior difference ratio of the simulation was 0.38,and the small error probability was 0.94,which means that the simulated results reached an acceptable level from the perspective of relative error.Thus,if nonpoint source pollution is simplified to point source pollution and open waters are simplified based on similarity theory,the setting flux of biodeposition in the open waters can be simply and effectively simulated by the fluid simulation software Fluent.

Responsiveness and minimal clinically important difference of the Chinese version of the Low Vision Quality of Life Questionnaire after cataract surgery

AIM: To investigate the Chinese version of the Low Vision Quality of Life Questionnaire(CLVQOL) as an instrument for obtaining clinically important changes after cataract surgery.METHODS: Patients underwent cataract surgery in Shanghai General Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, who fit the inclusion criteria were recruited. Two CLVQOLs were administered, including a preoperative CLVQOL and a CLVQOL at the end of the 3 mo follow-up period, and were completed using face-to-face interviews or phone interviews conducted by trained investigators. The minimal clinically important difference(MCID) was calculated using an anchor-based method and a distribution method. In addition, the responsiveness of the questionnaire was measured.RESULTS: A total of 155 residents were enrolled. The average visual acuity(VA) preoperatively was 0.08(SD=0.05), and it increased to 0.47(SD=0.28) at the end of followup. Statistically significant positive changes in the CLVQOL scores indicated significant improvement of vision related quality of life after cataract surgery. With the larger value between the two results as the final value, the MCID values of the CLVQOL(scores of the four scales as well as the total score) were 8.94, 2.61, 4.34, 3.10 and 17.63, respectively. The CLVQOL has both good internal and external responsiveness.CONCLUSION: CLVQOL scores are appropriate instruments for obtaining clinically important changes after cataract surgery. This study is an effective exploration for establishingcataract surgery efficacy standards, which helps clinical and scientific research workers in ophthalmology to gain a more in-depth understanding when using CLVQOL.

A Tentative Study of the Relationship between Metaphor and Metonymy

Morphological Difference and DNA Diversity Between Flower-colour Sport and Original Cultivar of Chrysanthemum with Small Flowers

A total of 58 morphological characteristics were measured on flower-colour sport and original cultivar according to Disticness, Uniformity, Stability＇ （DUS） Test for New Plant Cultivar of Chrysanthemum published by Ministry of Agriculture of China The results showed that five characteristics such as the surface colour, the back color of ray floret among them were siginificantly different, their MS （mo by AFLP showed that rphological s GS （genetic imilarity） was 91.4%, and MD （morphological difference） was 8.62%. DNA polymorphic analysis similarity） was 98.6%, and GD （genetic polymorphic diversity） was 2.81%. Five distinct bands which may include the flower-colour sport genes or be the molecular marker linkaged flower-color characteristics were amplified.

Since the end of the war in Afghanistan, the United States has been intensely making preparations for military actions to overthrow the "Saddam regime. " Though there existed big differences between the pro-war factions and pro-peace factions in the United Nations, U. S. President George W. Bush vowed that his country "would take military actions against lraq as planned even if the UN Security Council fails to pass U. S. motion to topple the Saddam regime by force." This tells us that the second Persian Gulf War was inevitable. And people would naturally connect in mind this war with the first Persian Gulf War in 1991. What is the difference between the two Gulf wars? What follow-up move would Washington take after the second Gulf war? What impact would the war exert on the political structure of the Middle East? And what’s the prospect of relations among the big powers, especially among the United States, the European nations, Russia and China? To find answers to these questions, we invited Professor Wang Zaibang and six of his colleagues to have a panel discussion in early March. It should be mentioned that Contemporary International Relations held a discussion of similar kind in the No. 10 issue, 2002. This discussion can be seen as a follow-up to the last one. We hope it would better our readers’ understanding of how the Chinese view this issue of public attention.

Socio-pragmatic Analysis of Polite Phatic Invitations: On the Material of English and Georgian Prose

The Application of Continuous Spatial Scaling Model of NDVI in Validation and Its Sensibility Analysis to Various Image Characteristics

Based on the fractal theory, this study establishes a Continuous Spatial Scaling Model （CSSM） of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index （NDVI） to address issues arising with spatial up-scaling in quantitative remote sensing. This model is able to quantitatively describe transformation relationships of the NDVI on continuous scales. Then the following experiments are accomplished： （1） the validation of ETM＋ NDVI imagery is implemented based on the GEOEYE-1 image and its NDVI CSSM, and the following conclusion is obtained： because of bad stripes in the ETM＋ image and the limited effect of destriping, the ETM＋ NDVI image had a rather large error, and the error for the entire experimental imagery is about 25%, so the ETM＋ NDVI product is not suitable for direct practical application; （2） Shatian Byland （Beihai City, China） is taken as the experimental area, and four images （two ETM＋ images with wider and smaller coverage, respectively, a GEOEYE-1 image, and an HJ-1B CCD1 image） are studied. The most suitable scale levels are computed and compared for the four images, and a better understanding is obtained of the impact of various image characteristics （area of coverage, spatial resolution, and imaging quality） on determining the scale level for the NDVI CSSM.
