Numerical calculations by means of nonlinear dynamic software ANSYS/LS-DYNA are conducted on the finite element models constructed with different scaling factors. The influence of strain rate on the model similarity law is found to be dependent on the strain rate sensitivity of materials and scale factors. Specifically, materials that are not sensitive to strain rate obey the model similarity law in the bird impact process. The conclusions obtained are supposed to provide a theoretical basis for the experimental work of bird impact on aircraft structure.展开更多

The usefulness of the similarity laws derived in this study was verified by comparing the bed forms from the distroted model experiments with the bed forms from the 1/50-scale undistorted model experiments, which were performed by the Hokkaido Development Bureau (H. D. B.), Japan, to examine the tentative plan for the improvement of a low-flow channel in the Chubetsu River, which is a tributary of the Ishikari River. It is considered that the distorted model experiments to be valid with either sand or lightweight bed material. [WT5”HZ]展开更多

In order to apply these similarity laws for the prediction of the characteristics of the collection efficiency, ηc, geometrically similar types of uni-flow cyclones were used. The body diameters of the cyclones were D_1=30, 50, 69 and 99 mm, respectively. The feed particle concentration of the fly-ash particles was up to C_o = 60g/m^3. From the experimental results: (1) the pressure drop, △pc, in the cyclones was a function of not only the Reynods number, Re_c, but also the body diameter, D_1; (2) the collection efficiency, η_c, did not always increase with decreasing body diameter but there existed an optimal body size; (3) application of the mechanical similarity laws to the collection efficiency was not always sufficient for estimating the collection efficiency, since the feed particle concentration was an additional important factor; (4) a new parameter which was the ratio, E_(pf), of the apparent separation energy, W_p, of the solid particles to the energy loss, E_c, of the gas flow in the cyclone was introduced for discussing the collection efficiency; (5) Fuchs theory, used to estimate the collection efficiency, was examined. Fuchs theory may be applied for high feed particle concentration.展开更多

Then, the dynamic characteristics and the process of vortex and flutter generation of the segment models under different rain intensities and angles of attack are tested by considering several typical main girder sections as examples. The test results indicate that the start and end wind speeds, interval length and number of vortex vibrations remain unchanged when it is raining, rainfall will reduce the windinduced vortex response. When test rain intensity is large, the decrease of amplitude is obvious. However, after considering the rain intensity similarity in this study, all of actual maximum rain intensities after conversion approach the domestic extreme rain intensity of approximately 709 mm/h. It can be observed that rainfall has a limited influence on the dynamic characteristics of the structure and vortex vibration response. When the test rain intensity is 120 mm/h, the critical wind speed of the model flutter increases by 20%-30%. However, after considering the rain intensity similarity ratio, the influence of rainfall on the wind-induced flutter instability of the bridge girder may be ignored.展开更多
