Based on the relationship, this paper deduced a modified formula of velocity correction for SIMPLE algorithm. Combinatorial Optimization of Physics Parameterization Schemes for Typhoon Simulation Based on a Simple Genetic Algorithm(SGA)

Each physical process in a numerical weather prediction(NWP)system may have many different parameterization schemes.Early studies have shown that the performance of different physical parameterization schemes varies with the weather situation to be simulated.Thus,it is necessary to select a suitable combination of physical parameterization schemes according to the variation of weather systems.However,it is rather difficult to identify an optimal combination among millions of possible parameterization scheme combinations.This study applied a simple genetic algorithm(SGA)to optimizing the combination of parameterization schemes in NWP models for typhoon forecasting.The feasibility of SGA was verified with the simulation of Typhoon Mujigae(2015)by using the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model and Typhoon Higos(2020)by using the Coupled Ocean–Atmosphere–Wave–Sediment Transport(COAWST)modeling system.The results show that SGA can efficiently obtain the optimal combination of schemes.For Typhoon Mujigae(2015),the optimal combination can be found from the 1,304,576 possible combinations by running only 488 trials.Similar results can be obtained for Typhoon Higos(2020).Compared to the default combination proposed by the COAWST model system,the optimal combination scheme significantly improves the simulation of typhoon track and intensity.This study provides a feasible way to search for the optimal combinations of physical parameterization schemes in WRF and COAWST for more accurate typhoon simulation.This can help provide references for future development of NWP models,and for analyzing the coordination and adaptability of different physical process parameterization schemes under specific weather backgrounds. 展开更多

The combination of structural health monitoring and vibration control is of great importance to provide components of smart structures.While synthetic algorithms have been proposed,adaptive control that is compatible with changing conditions still needs to be used,and time-varying systems are required to be simultaneously estimated with the application of adaptive control.In this research,the identification of structural time-varying dynamic characteristics and optimized simple adaptive control are integrated.First,reduced variations of physical parameters are estimated online using the multiple forgetting factor recursive least squares(MFRLS)method.Then,the energy from the structural vibration is simultaneously specified to optimize the control force with the identified parameters to be operational.Optimization is also performed based on the probability density function of the energy under the seismic excitation at any time.Finally,the optimal control force is obtained by the simple adaptive control(SAC)algorithm and energy coefficient.A numerical example and benchmark structure are employed to investigate the efficiency of the proposed approach.The simulation results revealed the effectiveness of the integrated online identification and optimal adaptive control in systems. 展开更多

We investigate heat and mass transfer in an isosceles trapezoidal cavity, filled with charcoal considered as a granular porous medium. The Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer flow model is coupled to the energy and mass equations with the assumption of non-thermal equilibrium. These equations are discretized by the finite volume method with an offset mesh and then solved by the line-by-line method of Thomas. The coupling between pressure and velocity is obtained by Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations. (SIMPLE) algorithm. The results show that the temperature in the cavity increases when the inclination angle of the sides walls decreases. The 15° inclination is selected as being able to offer better thermal performance in the cookstove combustion chamber. 展开更多

Then it is verified by an anti gravity mold filling of thin wall plate. In this paper, the shallow water equations are transformed under the generalized curvilinear coordinate system and the elliptic differential equations are used to generate curvilinear grids, so a model in generalized curviline ar coordinate is presented to simulate 2D horizontal cooling water, Governing equations of the model are discretized by finite volume method, and non-staggered grids and SIMPLE algorithm are introduced to simplify the program during the discretization. This model is used to simulate the movement of cooling water in a simplified meandering channel and a natural channel, calculating results indicate this model can correctly reflect the movement rules of cooling water, which verifies the model can be applied in engineering practice. 展开更多

The 2-D depth-averaged mathematical model for sediment-laden flows has been widely used in river control and other related engineering problems, and now it is usually solved on structured grids. Since the natural river is usually very complicated in plane boundary, and unstructured grids are more attractive in solving the problems with complicated domains, the following questions about solving 2-D depth-averaged model were discussed in this article: (1) a modified Bowyer algorithm was suggested to generate unstructured grids for natural rivers, (2) the Finite Volume Method (FVM) is employed to discretize the governing equations of the 2-D depth-averaged model and an implicit scheme was suggested with unstructured collocated grids, (3) the observed hydrological data of the Chenglingji Reach in the Yangtze River are used for verification of the presented method It seems that the suggested numerical scheme works very well, and the simulation results of both hydraulic characteristics and river bed deformation are in good agreement with the observed ones. 展开更多

A numerical model is proposed to simulate the internal wave propagation in a continuously density-stratified ocean, and in the model, the momentum equations are derived from the Euler equations on the basis of the Boussinesq approximation. The governing equations, including the continuity equation and the momentum equations, are discretized with the finite volume method. The advection terms are treated with the total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme, and the SIMPLE algorithm is employed to solve the discretized governing equations. After the modeling test, the suitable TVD scheme is selected. The SIMPLE algorithm is modified to simplify the calculation process, and it is easily made to adapt to the TVD scheme. The Sommerfeld's radiation condition combined with a sponge layer is adopted at the outflow boundary. In the water flume with a constant water depth, the numerical results are compared to the analytical solutions with a good agreement. The numerical simulations are carried out for a wave flume with a submerged dike, and the model results are analyzed in detail. The results show that the present numerical model can effectively simulate the propagation of the internal wave. 展开更多
