This paper presents the concept of a Dielectric-lined Multiwave Cerenkov Generator producing high power millimeter waves, which has been investigated with a two and onehalf dimensional electromagnetic relativistic Particle-in-Cell (PIC) plasma simulation code. Themodified device can operate in a lower diode-voltage regime with much higher radiation efficiencyand slight downshift of operation frequency. There exist the optima for the permittivity of thedielectric liner and for the magnitude of the guiding magnetic field. The required intensity of theguiding field is reduced by the introduction of the liner. The enhanced propagation of the electronbeam is studied in the presence of the liner. 展开更多

Based on analyzing various factors influencing milled surface topography, firstly, a generalized model for milled surface topography is proposed. Secondly, using the principles of transformation matrix and vector operation, the trajectory equation of cutting edge relative to workpiece is derived. Then, a three dimensional topography simulation algorithm is constructed through dividing the workpiece into regular grids. Finally, taking the peripheral milling process as an example, the generalized model is simplified, and the corresponding simulation examples are given. The results indicate that it is very efficient for the generalized model to be used to analyze and simulate the peripherally milled surface topography. 展开更多

A global optimum location algorithm called Variable Step-Size Generalized Simulated Annealing(VSGSA) was applied to treating the data obtained by using an array of ion-electrodes in solutions containing mixtures of Na+, K+, Ca2+. Unlike traditional optimization algorithms such as simplex procedure, VSGSA can be used to determine the model parameters without any priori information about the analytical system under investigation and overcome the disadvantage of simplex method which might converge to local extrema depending on the starting positions. This paper presents a development of a novel path planning algorithm, called Generalized Laser simulator (GLS), for solving the mobilerobot path planning problem in a two-dimensional map with the presence ofconstraints. This approach gives the possibility to find the path for a wheelmobile robot considering some constraints during the robot movement inboth known and unknown environments. The feasible path is determinedbetween the start and goal positions by generating wave of points in alldirection towards the goal point with adhering to constraints. In simulation,the proposed method has been tested in several working environments withdifferent degrees of complexity. The results demonstrated that the proposedmethod is able to generate efficiently an optimal collision-free path. Moreover,the performance of the proposed method was compared with the A-star andlaser simulator (LS) algorithms in terms of path length, computational timeand path smoothness. The results revealed that the proposed method hasshortest path length, less computational time and the best smooth path. Asan average, GLS is faster than A∗ and LS by 7.8 and 5.5 times, respectivelyand presents a path shorter than A∗ and LS by 1.2 and 1.5 times. In orderto verify the performance of the developed method in dealing with constraints, an experimental study was carried out using a Wheeled Mobile Robot(WMR) platform in labs and roads. The experimental work investigates acomplete autonomous WMR path planning in the lab and road environmentsusing a live video streaming. Local maps were built using data from a live video streaming with real-time image processing to detect segments of theanalogous-road in lab or real-road environments. The study shows that theproposed method is able to generate shortest path and best smooth trajectoryfrom start to goal points in comparison with laser simulator. 展开更多

In an extraction turbine, pressure of the extracted steam and rotate speed of the rotor are two important controlled quantities. The traditional linear state feedback control method is not perfect enough to control the two quantities accurately because of existence of nonlinearity and coupling. A generalized minimum variance control method is studied for an extraction turbine. Firstly, a nonlinear mathematical model of the control system about the two quantities is transformed into a linear system with two white noises. Secondly, a generalized minimum variance control law is applied to the system. A comparative simulation is done. The simulation results indicate that precision and dynamic quality of the regulating system under the new control law are both better than those under the state feedback control law. 展开更多

This work presents a procedure to optimize the molecular geometry at the Hartree-Fock level, based on a global opti-mization method—the Generalized Simulated Annealing. The main characteristic of this methodology is that, at least in principle, it enables the mapping of the energy hypersurface as to guarantee the achievement of the absolute minimum. This method does not use expansions of the energy, nor of its derivates, in terms of the conformation variables. Distinctly, it performs a direct optimization of the total Hartree-Fock energy through a stochastic strategy. The algorithm was tested by determining the Hartree-Fock ground state and optimum geometries of the H2, LiH, BH, Li2, CH+, OH?, FH, CO, CH, NH, OH and O2 systems. The convergence of our algorithm is totally independent of the initial point and do not require any previous specification of the orbital occupancies. 展开更多

The hydraulic force on the reversible pump turbine might cause serious problems(e.g., the abnormal stops due to large vibrations of the machine), affecting the safe operations of the pumped energy storage power plants. In the present paper, the hydraulic force on the impeller of a model reversible pump turbine is quantitatively investigated through numerical simulations. It is found that both the amplitude of the force and its dominant components strongly depend on the operating conditions(e.g., the turbine mode, the runaway mode and the turbine brake mode) and the guide vane openings. For example, the axial force parallel with the shaft is prominent in the turbine mode while the force perpendicular to the shaft is the dominant near the runaway and the turbine brake modes. The physical origins of the hydraulic force are further revealed by the analysis of the fluid states inside the impeller. 展开更多

In this paper,a high-accuracy numerical scheme is developed for long-time dynamic simulations of 2D and 3D wave propagation phenomena.In the derivation of the present approach,the second order time derivative of the physical quantity in the wave equation is treated as a substitution variable.Based on the temporal discretization with the Krylov deferred correction(KDC)technique,the original wave problem is then converted into the modified Helmholtz equation.The transformed boundary value problem(BVP)in space is efficiently simulated by using the meshless generalized finite difference method(GFDM)with Taylor series after truncating the second and fourth order approximations.The developed scheme is finally verified by four numerical experiments including cases with complicated domains or the temporally piecewise defined source function.Numerical results match with the analytical solutions and results by the COMSOL software,which demonstrates that the developed KDC-GFDM can allow large time-step sizes for wave propagation problems in longtime intervals. 展开更多

The last few years have seen a paradigm shift in the financial sector with the development of cryptocurrencies as an alternative mode of payment as well as an investment scheme.The aim of this study is two-fold.The first is to quantify the volatility of cryptocurrencies in terms of the dynamics of tail-end behavior using different approaches and choose the one with the lowest value-at-risk.The second is to investigate the effect of its inclusion in a portfolio with and without gold,to see if Bitcoin is indeed the“digital gold”.This paper uses the generalized simulated annealing optimization technique to compare portfolios for ten countries across the world.The data provide convincing evidence in favor of the inclusion of Bitcoin in the optimized portfolios.Rolling-window analyses(three-year and five-year)confirm the same.However,for some countries,the empirical pattern suggests that instead of replacing gold from the portfolio,both should be comprised.Our results are robust in terms of the inclusion of non-linear constraints. 展开更多
