A classical action which describes the motion of a system of small-point massive charged particles including the existence of the electromagnetic and gravitational self-forces, Maxwell equations and Einstein field equations is presented. The action possesses the particularity of being a functional of the variables zi (τi), the trajectory of the i-particle, Aα (x), the electromagnetic 4-potential, and gαβ(x), the metric tensor. It is also considered that the metric tensor gαβ (x) and the potential Aα (x) are not functions of the trajectory of each particle when the variations with respect to the trajectories of the particles are done. That is, the action is complete. The electromagnetic and the gravitational self-forces are analyzed. 展开更多

Taking a small pressure change in the gas film of self-acting gas-lubricated journal bearings into account, the corresponding nonlinear Reynolds equation is linearized through appropriate approximation and a modified Reynolds equation is derived and solved by means of the finite difference method (FDM). The gas film pressure distribution of a self-acting gas-lubricated journal bearing is attained and the load capacity is calculated. The numerical solution has a better agreement with experimental data than a direct numerical solution for different values of the bearing number. It is of interest to note that the eccentricity ratio, at which the new numerical solution is in better agreement with experimental data, is different when the bearing number is changing. The new numerical solution is slightly larger when the eccentricity ratio is smaller, and becomes slightly smaller when the eccentricity ratio is larger. 展开更多

In DC micro grids and networks,DC-DC power converters having a large number of semiconductor-based power electronic devices are usually adopted to interconnect the renewable sources and flexible loads. Most of the semiconductor-based devices suffer from poor fault withstanding abilities, but conventional power electronic protection schemes have the bottlenecks of the time-delay,self-malfunction and mis-judgement.This paper presents a novel solution using the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL)to protect a power electronic device and extend the usage to a micro grid. This SFCL is actually a self-triggering,recoverable,and passive current limiter, which does not involve any additional circuit hardware and software.Experimental investigations and simulation analyses clarify the feasibility of using this superconductor-based protection scheme to implement the self-acting fail-safe protection of DC-DC converters.Further system-level simulations explore the SFCL to suppress the over-current and stabilize the bus voltage of a photovoltaic based DC micro grid, particularly facing millisecond-level transients and faults. Our experimental and theoretical investigations lay some technical bases to establish a superconductor-semiconductor-coupled interdisciplinary application from the view from the applied superconductivity,to power electronics, and to micro grids. 展开更多
