More than five hundred and fifty questionnaires were distributed, highlighting workers’ preferred digital channels and platforms. The results indicate that the majority use social media through their mobile phones, with WhatsApp being the most popular app, followed by Facebook and LinkedIn. The study reveals that workers use social media for entertainment purposes and to develop professional and social relationships, with 55% unable to live without social media at work for recreational activities. In addition, 35% spend on average 1 to 2 hours on social networks, mainly between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. It also appears that 46% believe that social networks moderately improve their productivity. These findings can guide marketing strategies, training, technology development and government policies related to the use of social media in the workplace.展开更多

However, the sheer quantity of data generated by the events as well as the data collection restrictions that researchers encounter, leads to a series of challenges for researchers who want to analyze dynamic public discourse and opinion in response to and in the creation of world events. In this paper we present gatherTweet, a Python package that helps researchers efficiently collect social media data for events that are composed of many decentralized actions (across both space and time). The package is useful for studies that require analysis of the organizational or baseline messaging before an action, the action itself, and the effects of the action on subsequent public discourse. By capturing these aspects of world events gatherTweet enables the study of events and actions like protests, natural disasters, and elections.展开更多

The aim was to access the security risk on the network, the speed of the network, and the data consumption of those platforms on the network. Network Mapper (Nmap Zenmap) Graphical User Interface 7.80 application was used to scan the various social media platforms to identify the protocols, ports, services, etc. to enable in accessing the vulnerability of the network. Data consumption of users’ mobile devices was collected and analyzed. Device Accounting (DA) based on the various social media applications was used. The results of the analysis revealed that the network is prone to attacks due to the nature of the protocols, ports, and services on social media applications. The numerous users with average monthly data consumption per user of 4 gigabytes, 300 megabytes on social media alone are a clear indication of high traffic as well as the cost of maintaining the network. A URL filtering of the social media websites was proposed on Rockus Outdoor AP to help curb the nuisance.展开更多

Nevertheless, education can generate hope in the face of the epidemic using different methods, including social networks. This article investigates the positive and negative impacts of social networks on the spread of HIV at the University of Zambia (UNZA). The research study included survey-based oral interviews with 280 UNZA students. During the course of the study, we realized that efforts have been and are being put in place at UNZA to use online social networks to spread news about HIV and AIDS and how to stop its transmission. Findings showed that most participants felt that social networks hastened the spread of the virus among social media users. Despite social networks having a few positive effects, the results of our study indicate that the negative effects far outweigh the positive effects.展开更多

This study aims to highlight the highly used SNSs across the Arab Gulf States comprising Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The database of Stat Counter (http://gs.statcounter.com) was selected for tracing the use and growth of SNSs in this region. The findings show that the three most used SNSs in the Arab Gulf region are: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. It is observed that Facebook is the leading social networking site used in the region until now, but Twitter is fast gaining market. Twitter is becoming popular among users and giving a tough competition to Facebook in almost all countries of the region except Iraq. In 2013, it has moved to 1st position in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, replacing Facebook. However, in some countries like the UAE and Qatar, Facebook is still going strong. The paper concludes that the intensive use of social media among citizens’ of the Arab Gulf countries indicates that the internet has the potential to be a multivocal platform through which every segment of the society can have their voices heard. With limited availability of published literature in the field pertaining to the usage of social media by the people of the Arab Gulf countries, the paper aims to understand the practice, implication and importance of social media networks in this Muslim dominated region.展开更多

We focus on a descriptive or quantitative analysis to understand the motivations and how students make use of internet and social networks. More than six hundred forms were distributed to persons we have deemed as students. In return, we received more than 93% of the forms that have been processed. The study highlights the materials and the digital platforms that students used the most. The majority of the respondents reported to have access to the social networks in their mobile phones, with WhatsApp leading this application ranking, followed by Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Tik Tok. The survey shows that two third of our respondents are aged from 19 to 25 years old and almost half of the respondents spend daily 2 to 5 hours on digital platforms. The investigation also reveals that the main online activities are the e-commerce, chatting, information, and entertainment. The paper addresses also the online harassment of the students and it shows that more than one tenth of them have been victims of cyber-bullying. This study might be useful for governments, institutions, academia, individuals and professionals in order to communicate efficiently with a given population for a better use of social networks and to prevent students from harassment.展开更多

However, identifying a specific type of data requires processing, which involves machine learning classifying techniques. To facilitate this, we propose a general framework that can be applied to any social media content to develop an intelligent system. The framework consists of three main parts: an interface, classifier and ana-lyzer. The analyzer uses media recognition to identify specific features. Then, the classifier uses these features and involves them in the classification process. The interface organizes the interaction between the system compo-nents. We tested the framework and developed a system to be applied to im-age-based social media networks (Instagram). The system was implemented as a mobile application (My Interests) that works as a recommendation and filtering system for Instagram users and reduces the time they spend on irre-levant information. It analyzes the images, categorizes them, identifies the in-teresting ones, and finally, reports the results. We used the Cloud Vision API as a tool to analyze the images and extract their features. Furthermore, we adapted support vector machine (SVM), a machine learning method, to classify images and to predict the preferred ones.展开更多

The research was done by interviews;50 people were interviewed, mostly from China's Mainland, Hong Kong, and Finland. This paper presents the included 12 questions and discusses the collected answers. It was discovered, e.g., that 38 out of the 50 answerers use social media every day and share versatile personal information on the Internet. Half of the answerers also share information about other people on the Internet. It was also discovered that compared to male answerers, the female answerers were more active in sharing information about other people. There was a significant variety in opinions: what should be the age limit for sharing personal information online, while 22 out of the 50 answerers felt that there is no need for an age limit at all. According to the answers, only a few people use social media for making new friends. Instead, an important reason for using social media is that their existing friends are using. An interesting finding was that the answerers see the Internet as a part of the real world;the privacy that you have on the Internet is the privacy that you have in the real world.展开更多
