The Dandy on the City Stage： Social Roles, Social Spaces and Commodity Consumption

Dandyism is a very important and significant social phenomenon in 19th century Europe, and also a means of aesthetic revolt in an urban environment. The paper focuses on how Charles Baudelaire presents his dandy＇s rebellion, based on aestheticism, on the city stage. Only the city produces dandies and dandies cannot breathe without the city. On ＂stage＂, Baudelaire played different dandy roles, such as the flameur, the ragpicker, and man of letters. Walking the streets, the dandy is a member of the crowd but also isolated from it; his main duty is to observe the city and mass silently, and seek the flowers of evil.

With great power comes great responsibility:inquiry into the social roles and the power dynamics in human-AI interactions

As machines are becoming more interactive,such as Artificial Intelligence(AI)agents,the importance of interactions between humans and AI increases as a new type of communication.However,unlike most studies have examined the influence of AI on individuals,fewer studies about how human-AI interactions will impact society have been conducted.It should be acknowledged that we attribute social roles to AI when assigning social tasks,and there are power dynamics within an interaction between humans and AI because of it.Also,we should ask whether the current society is ready for AI to take responsibility for its actions.Finally,limitations on existing human-machine communication(HMC)studies,an unclear definition of AI as an interlocutor and a lack of theoretical frameworks,were pointed out with suggestions.It is expected that considering a machine’s social roles and powers in human-AI interactions will broaden the theoretical realm of HMC.

Corporate Social Responsibility in the Thinking of Paolo Emilio Cassandro

This paper, which is to be collocated with international research studies of the historical origins of corporate social responsibility （CSR）, deals with both the theme of CSR itself and the topics related to it through an examination of the key characteristics of the theories of the master in the field of Italian Economia Aziendale, Paolo Emilio Cassandro （1910-2004）, who wrote an impressive number of works on numerous subjects that are of notable current relevance, including the social role of business, the concept of added value, and the role of the social report in the process of providing information for external purposes. Through an analytical-descriptive approach, our work will focus in particular on certain aspects of his life and works, which show beyond doubt the great value of his contribution to the advancement, at both national and international levels, of research into CSR. The main aim of what follows is to highlight not only the innovative nature of Cassandro＇s studies of the subject when compared with other research carried out in Italy in the second half of the 20th century but also how strikingly relevant they are to CSR as a topic for international scholars today.

A Study on the Differentiation Phenomenon of Cultural Identity and Social Role of Chinese Qin Musicians in Modern Social Context

With the social change,the role behavior of Qin culture’s producers and inheritors have changed from traditional to modern,among which the significant symbol is the differentiation of cultural identity and social role.Starting with the historical perspective,social-cultural perspective,etc.,and analyzing the role differentiation phenomenon of Qin musicians,this thesis considers that the changes in the role of the Qin musician are influenced by various external strong discourses in different periods.How to maintain the cultural creation and role responsibility of the Qin musicians’self-consciousness under the interaction of various external forces becomes the key to the successful protection and inheritance of the Qin cultural heritage.

Expanding Older Adults’ Care Choices Utilizing the Proceeds of Reciprocated Volunteerism: Capitalizing on Ghana’s Digitalization Artillery

Ghana has been a collectivistic society. However, due to social change, this value is fast being replaced by individualistic tendencies with implications for age-oriented care provision and receipt. This paper investigates the participation in the socially productive strategy of using ageing-oriented volunteerism to leverage the receipt of care in later life utilizing a quantitative dataset. The results show that volunteering may be undertaken with old age in sight. This needs to take place under circumstances of good communication skills among others. The accumulated time needs to be recorded in a time bank and redeemed with a time bank card in later life. Two-dimensional leveraging points pertain in this context: first, leveraging volunteerism for short or long-term care in the nearest future;second, technological innovation’s facilitation of the same. Volunteerism in this context has the attribute of low levels of depression, with implications for quality of life. These are discussed in the light of the social care pillar of ageing social policy. The paper argues that adopting volunteerism with reciprocation as the ultimate goal constitutes a kickback model for care receipt in later life. It served as a choice of care in later life which is a shock absorber to inadequate formal support infrastructure and individualistic social tendencies in Ghana. It is reminiscent of resistance to the shrinkage of older persons’ social integration in their social world.

Winesburg, Ohio from the feminist perspective

In Winesburg, Ohio, Sherwood Anderson vividly presented a group of lonely people, deformed in spirit and depressed in life, and longing for love but lack of communication. Such ＂grotesques＂ became considerable images in the research of American literature history. Their life reveals the social role that women play and the change of the man-woman relationship in the United States when it was in its transition to industrialism at the beginning of the 20th century. From the perspective of feminism, this paper conducts a systematical analysis on the social life, social role and family role of the female ＂grotesques＂, and tentatively talks about man-woman relationship.

Factors associated with hopelessness in epileptic patients

AIM: To investigate factors related to hopelessness in a sample of epileptic patients, including measures of depression and quality of life(QOL). METHODS: Sixty-nine participants were administered the following psychometric instruments: Beck Depression Inventory-Ⅱ, Beck Hopelessness Scale(BHS), and QOLin Epilepsy(QOLIE)-89. Patients were dichotomized into two categories: those affected by epilepsy with generalized tonic-clonic seizures vs those having epilepsy with partial seizures. RESULTS: The groups differed on the QOLIE Role Limitation/Emotional dimension. Patients with generalized seizures reported more limitations in common social/role activities related to emotional problems than patients with other types of epilepsy(89.57 ± 25.49 vs 72.86 ± 36.38; t 63 =-2.16; P < 0.05). All of the respondents reported moderate to severe depression, and 21.7% of patients with generalized seizures and 28.6% of patients with other diagnoses had BHS total scores ≥ 9 indicating a higher suicidal risk. The study did not control for years of the illness. CONCLUSION: Patients with generalized seizures reported more limitations in common social/role activities related to emotional problems compared to patients with other types of seizures. Patients at increased suicide risk as evaluated by the BHS were older than those who had a lower suicidal risk. Future studies are required to further investigate the impact of hopelessness on the outcome of epileptic patients.

Language and Social Institutions: The Conversation Analytic View

This paper considers some of the main lines of development in the application of conversation analysis(CA)to interactions in work settings such as medicine,education,law enforcement,courts,mass media etc.The paper describes some basic differences between ordinary conversational interaction and work-based institutional talk,that center on the range of language practices deployed in the two types of environment,and the forms of social change to which each is subject.Subsequently,six basic dimensions of organization are identified as sites of research on institutional talk:(1)Turn-taking organization;(2)Overall structural organization of the interaction;(3)Sequence organization;(4)Turn design;(5)Lexical choice;(6)Epistemic and other forms of asymmetry.Finally research on the causes of change in institutional language practices,and on the consequences of language practices for the outcomes of interactions is described.

Reflections on the Social Role of Contemporary Chinese Universities in the Reform Era

The Role of Women in Social Development

WOMEN, a powerful force accounting for some 50 percent of world’s total population, are deeply involved in social development and are actively joining their male counterparts in promoting the progress of mankind. Nonetheless, people seem to be paying increasingly less attention to the aforementioned facts. Therefore, the following question is meant to call people’s attention to the matter. What would happen if women withdraw from economic, political, cultural and family activities? In terms of the economy, it would mean that about one billion people would go on strike due to the fact that some 897 million women across the world are engaged in paid economic activities. The worldwide grain
