A study was initiated in Wolong Nature Reserve, Sichuan Province, China to elucidate the soil quality changes of natural secondary succession, forest planting and agricultural practices after deforestation in the humid mountainous region. The soil qualities of six land use types (natural forestland, grassland, shrub land, secondary forestland, cultivated land and reforested land) were compared using two quantitative methods: the integrated soil quality index(QI) and soil deterioration index(DI). The QI values of natural forestland, grassland, shrub land, secondary forestland, cultivated land, reforested land were 0.8039, 0.3277, 0.9127, 0.6881, 0.0285 and 0.3183, respectively. The DI values were 0%, -14%, 12%, 1%, -26% and -18% respectively. Both indexes suggested that shrub land can restore soil properties. To compare the two methods more directly, a deduced index QI′ based on QI value was developed. The results showed that DI and QI′had a very high linear correlation coefficient (r=0.9775) despite the values were different. Both methods were efficient in evaluating the soil quality levels and DI was a more simple way in soil quality assessment, while QI could show more ecological meanings.展开更多

Parameters of the model were selected and determined according to the comprehensive analysis of model evaluation indexes. The first simulation of forest reconstruction scenario, namely a coniferous forest covering 59.35km^2 is replaced by a broad-leaved forest showed no significant impact on the flood reduction in the URTR. The second simulation was added with 61.75km^2 bamboo forest replaced by broad-leaved forest, the reduction of flood peak discharge and flood volume could be improved significantly. Specifically, flood peak discharge of 10-year return period event was reduced to 7-year event, and the reduction rate of small flood was 21%-28%. Moreover, the flood volume was reduced by 9%-14% and 18%-35% for moderate floods and small floods, respectively. The resultssuggest that the bamboo forest reconstruction is an effective control solution for small to moderate flood in the URTR,the effect of forest conversion on flood volume is increasingly reduced as the rainfall amount increases to more extreme magnitude. Using a hydrological model with scenarios analysis is an effective simulation approach in investigating the relationship between forest type change and flood control. This method would provide reliable support for flood control and disaster mitigation in mountainous cities.展开更多

By applying axisymmetric finite element method (FEM),an expression relating the surface settlement and the reaction of the layered soil can be obtained. We model the heat transfer coefficient and specific heat capacity as spatially random fields instead of traditional random variables. An analysis for calculating the random temperature field of seasonal frozen soil is suggested by the Neumann stochastic finite element method, and here we provide the computational formulae of mathematical expectation, variance and variable coefficient. As shown in the calculation flow chart, the stochastic finite element calculation program for solving the random temperature field, as compiled by Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) sottware, can directly output the statistical results of the temperature field of frozen soil. An example is presented to demonstrate the random effects from random field parameters, and the feasibility of the proposed approach is proven by compar- ing these results with the results derived when the random parameters are only modeled as random variables. The results show that the Neumann stochastic finite element method can efficiently solve the problem of random temperature fields of frozen soil based on random field theory, and it can reduce the variability of calculation results when the random parameters are modeled as spatial- ly random fields.展开更多

The main objective of this study was to compare between a soil core sampling method (core) and the CPN MC-3 Elite<span style="white-space:nowrap;">TM</span> nuclear gauge method (radiation) for measuring bulk density (<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span>) and volumetric moisture content (<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>θ<span style="font-size:10.9091px;">v</span></i></span></span></i></span>) in a clay loam soil. Soil <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> and <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>θ<span style="font-size:10.9091px;">v</span></i></span></span></i></span> measurements were determined using the core and radiation methods at 0 - 10 and 10 - 20 cm soil depths. The mean values of soil <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> obtained using the core method (1.454, 1.492 g<span style="color:#4F4F4F;font-family:" font-size:14px;white-space:normal;background-color:#f7f7f7;"="">·</span>cm<span style="white-space:nowrap;">−3</span>) were greater than those obtained using the radiation method (1.343, 1.476 g<span style="color:#4F4F4F;font-family:" font-size:14px;white-space:normal;background-color:#f7f7f7;"="">·</span>cm<span style="white-space:nowrap;">−3</span>) at the 0 - 10 and 10 - 20 cm depths, respectively. Mean <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> and <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>θ<span style="font-size:10.9091px;">v</span></i></span></span></i></span> values averaged across both depths (referred to as the 0 - 20 cm depth) measured by the core method were 4.47% and 22.74% greater, respectively, than those obtained by the radiation method. The coefficients of variation (CV) of soil <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> values measured by the core method were lower than the CV values of those measured by the radiation method at both depths;however, the CV’s of <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> values for both methods were larger at the 0 - 10 cm depth than those measured at the 10 - 20 cm depth. Similarly, the CV values of soil <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>θv</i></span></span></i></span> values measured by the core method were lower than the CV values of those measured by the radiation method at both depths. There were significant differences between two methods in terms of <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> and <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>θv</i></span></span></i></span>, with the core method generating greater values than the radiation method at the 0 - 20 cm depth. These discrepancies between the two methods could have resulted from soil compaction and soil disturbance caused by the core and radiation techniques, respectively, as well as by other sources of error. Nevertheless, the core sampling method is considered the most common one for measuring <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> for many agricultural, hydrological and environmental studies in most soils.</span>展开更多
In order to further optimize the cultivation and agronomic technology of Guilin Maojian tea gardens, the effects, efficiencies and costs of different farming methods and their effects on the physiochemical properties ...In order to further optimize the cultivation and agronomic technology of Guilin Maojian tea gardens, the effects, efficiencies and costs of different farming methods and their effects on the physiochemical properties of tea garden soil were studied through the modification of the test sites with the non-farming land as the control. The results showed that human farming, mini-tiller farming and crawler tractor farming could improve the physical and chemical properties of soil. After farming, the soil had good water retention but low moisture content compared to the control group, while the soil bulk density and hardness value were significantly lower than those of the control, and the porosity of soil was significantly higher than that of contrast. With the passage of time, soil bulk density and hardness value gradually increased after farming, while the porosity of soil decreased gradually. There were great differences in the effects, efficiencies and costs of different farming methods. Crawler tractor had the best and most stable farming effect, and the operation efficiency was 10 times that of human farming while the cost was only 0.39 times of human farming. Therefore, it was feasible to adopt mini-tiller or crawler tractor to carry out mechanical farming of Guilin Maojian tea garden, which provided theoretical references for the soil property improvement using mechanical farming and was favorable for promoting the popularization of farming machines and the acceleration of mechanization of tea gardens. But for tea plantations that are intended to be mechanized, apart from the mechanical and technical personnel to be configured in place, the site conditions, planting modes and mechanical way reservation of tea garden should be planned accordingly. It is recommended to select flat or gentle slope for reclamation, and preference is given to non-sexual tea tree varieties with big line spacing over 180 cm long. Moreover, the main road construction should be more than 3.0 m, and trunk road 2.0 m or above. And isolation ditch and drain should be set between the tea garden and the surrounding mountain forests and farmland.展开更多

In this study,Cd bioavailability in soils was systemically investigated by comparing this technique with seven traditional methods, including soil solution concentration and six commonly used extraction methods( HAc,EDTA,Na c,NH4Ac,CaCl2 and MgCl2). Two typical plants( wheat and maize) were examined for Cd uptake. Maize was more sensitive to increasing exposure to Cd in soils than wheat when the added amounts of Cd ranged from 3. 5 to 5. 0 mg · kg-1,accompanied by the significant decreases of shoot and root biomasses. Cd concentrations in shoots and roots of two plants increased continuously with increasing levels of Cd in soils. Cd uptake was higher in wheat than that in maize. The bioavailable concentrations of Cd measured by all methods increased nearly linearly with increasing addition of Cd in soils. Positive correlations were observed between various bioavailable indicators of Cd in soils and Cd concentrations in two plants. The extractable Cd by six chemical extractants was considerably higher for maize than for wheat, while the DGT-measured and soil solution concentrations of Cd were lower for maize than for wheat, following the same trend as plant Cd uptake. The results imply that DGT measurement can effectively predict the bioavailable levels of Cd in soil solutions and that it is an ideal tool for prediction of Cd bioavailability in soils.展开更多

Therefore, it is not clear about which biologic incubation method is better for calcareous soil. In this study, pot experiments were performed by using 25 different calcareous surface soil samples on the Loess Plateau and taking the N uptake of wheat and corn with leaching soil initial nitrate and without leaching in pot experiments as the control to investigate the difference of eight biological incubation methods for reflecting soil nitrogen supply capacity. The eight biological methods are waterlogged incubation, aerobic incubation for 2 weeks and for 4 weeks, dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation for 2 weeks, long-term alternate leaching aerobic incubation (and N mineralization potential, No), short-term leaching aerobic incubation, microbial biomass carbon (Bc), and microbial biomass nitrogen (BN) method, respectively. Among these methods, the dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation and aerobic incubation for 4 weeks were the modification of the method of aerobic incubation for 2 weeks according to the actual farmland moisture. The results showed that the correlation coefficients between these methods and crop uptake N with leaching soil initial nitrate were 0.530, 0.700, 0.777, 0.768, 0.764 (and 0.790, No), 0.650, 0.555, and 0.465, respectively (r0.05 = 0.369, r0.0l = 0.505). While without leaching soil initial nitrate, their coefficients were 0.351, 0.963, 0.962, 0.959, 0.825 (and0.812, No), 0.963, 0.289, and 0.095, respectively (r0.05 = 0.369, r0.01 = 0.505). In conclusion, excluding the soil initial nitrate, the correlation coefficients between the eight methods and crop uptake N were, from high to low, N0, aerobic incubation for 4 weeks, dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation for 2 weeks, and long-term alternate leaching aerobic incubation, while including the soil initial nitrate the correlation coefficients between them increased significantly and the values were all beyond 0.950 for these four methods, including aerobic incubation for 2 weeks and for 4 weeks, dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation for 2 weeks and short-term leaching aerobic incubation. The waterlogged incubation method, Bc and BN in the calcareous soil, had lower correlation coefficient with crop uptake nitrogen compared with other methods. Thus, dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation for 2 weeks was a better index for evaluating calcareous soil N supply capacity due to some other methods having disadvantages and not suitable for the actual farmland characteristics.展开更多

This paper explores the relationship between surface radiant temperature and fractional vegetation cover derived from satellite imagery to estimate soil surface wetness (triangle method) in Allahabad district. The pixel distributions create triangular shapes because the range of surface radiant temperature decreases as the amount of vegetation cover increases and sufficient number of pixels exists. A very weak correlation is found between the simulated soil surface wetness and ground measured soil moisture at deeper soil layers (R2 < 0.15) on all the dates under investigation. This is because the drying rates at the surface discontinue to be linearly correlated to that at lower levels (depths). The standing water pixels distort the shape of the triangle especially at lower left edge of the triangle. This distortion is removable. The spatial and temporal inhomogeneity of soil surface wetness is examined.展开更多

As an example, soil structure collapse caused by moisture increment or rising underground water level results in huge settlements. This type of problematic soil, named collapsible soil, can cause dramatic problems and should be amended where exists. Today, the use of different techniques for soil reinforcement and soil improvement is widely used to treat soil properties. One of these methods is Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) method. This method becomes more important in the cases of studying and examining collapsible soils. In this research, the settlement of amended collapsible soils, applying deep soil mixing method, is examined. The experiments show that soil amendment using this method, well prevents the settlement of collapsible soils giving rise to bearing capacity.展开更多

文摘This paper is an attempt to solve the soil-pile interaction problems using the boundary element method(BEM).A computer package called PGroupN,which deals mainly with the analysis of the pile group problem,is employed in this study.Parametric studies are carried out to assess the impacts of the pile diameter, pile length, ratio of spacing to diameter and the thickness of soil stratum. The external load is applied incrementally and,at each increment,a check is made that the stress state at the pile-soil interfaces does not violate the yield criteria. This is achieved by specifying the limited stresses of the soil for the axial pile shaft capacity and end-bearing resistance. The elements of the pile-soil interface yielded can take no additional load, and any increase in load is therefore redistributed between the remaining elements until all elements have failed. Thus,by successive application of loading increments, the entire load-displacement relationship for the pile group is determined. It is found that as the applied load reaches the ultimate bearing capacity of the pile group, all the piles will share the same amount of load.An exception to this case is for the center pile in a group of 9 piles embedded in clay, which is not consistent with the behaviors of the other piles in the group even if the load reaches the ultimate state. For the 4 piles group embedded in clay, the maximum load carried by the base does not exceed 8% of the load carried by each pile with different diameters. This low percentage ascertains that the piles embedded in cohesive soils carry most of the load throughout their shafts.

文摘A novel method isolated microorganisms in soil granule was built. The key steps included: repeated elutriation of soil by sterilized water, inoculation on the plates with the elutriated sediments, incubation of the plates and isolation of the actinomycetes by using selected culture medium. We formulated that most microflora included the dominant actinomycetes in the soil were carried away with the sterilized water in the elutriation procedure, some rare actinomycetes and few other microflora included bacteria were remained in the elutriated sediments, the other microflora were excluded to grew into colonies on the plates by using selective culture medium for actinomycetes in the elutriated sediments. Results showed the supposition. Non-streptomycete actinomycetes were isolated both from black soil samples from Chinese northeast area and compost samples from Chinese central area. Soil fungi in granule were isolated by using the selective conditions to favor fungi. The results showed that the method was effective

文摘To study the effect of uncertain factors on the temperature field of frozen soil, we propose a method to calculate the spatial average variance from just the point variance based on the local average theory of random fields. The results show that the Neumann stochastic finite element method can efficiently solve the problem of random temperature fields of frozen soil based on random field theory, and it can reduce the variability of calculation results when the random parameters are modeled as spatial- ly random fields.
文摘The ideal reducing reagent in testing available nitrogen of soil by Conway Methodis Devard‘s alloy. The optimum ratio of soil:Devard’s alloy:1.0N NaOH solution is 5.0g:0.2g:5ml.When reaction goes on at 30℃ for 4 hours, the rate of soil NO3-N reduction is about 90%,and the recovery rate of soil NH4-N is about 95%.Some organic nitrogen can be measured at thesame time. This method is defined as the Modified Conway Method and the soil N-min is r=0.982(n=10).In predicting soil nitrogen supplying power, the Modified Conway Method takesonly 1/6 of time needed by Conway Method. The Modified Conway Method can also be used forthe measure of soil N-min.
文摘<span style="font-family:Verdana;">Soil bulk density and moisture content are dynamic properties that vary with changes in soil and field conditions and have many agricultural, hydrological and environmental implications. Nevertheless, the core sampling method is considered the most common one for measuring <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;white-space:normal;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>ρB</i></span></span></i></span> for many agricultural, hydrological and environmental studies in most soils.</span>

文摘In order to further optimize the cultivation and agronomic technology of Guilin Maojian tea gardens, the effects, efficiencies and costs of different farming methods and their effects on the physiochemical properties of tea garden soil were studied through the modification of the test sites with the non-farming land as the control. And isolation ditch and drain should be set between the tea garden and the surrounding mountain forests and farmland.

文摘The developed technique of diffusive gradients in thin film( DGT) has been suggested as a promising tool for evaluation of cadmium( Cd) availability in soils, but there exists considerable debate on its suitability. The results imply that DGT measurement can effectively predict the bioavailable levels of Cd in soil solutions and that it is an ideal tool for prediction of Cd bioavailability in soils.

文摘Although many biological methods are used to determine soil nitrogen supplying capacity, there are certain differences in the results for different types of soils and various ways of measurement due to the complexity of soil N conformation, the high variance of soil and microorganism, and the difference of environment. Thus, dry-wet alternation aerobic incubation for 2 weeks was a better index for evaluating calcareous soil N supply capacity due to some other methods having disadvantages and not suitable for the actual farmland characteristics.
文摘Soil surface wetness is indispensable land surface parameter in agriculture, hydrology and environmental engineering. The spatial and temporal inhomogeneity of soil surface wetness is examined.
文摘Problematic soils usually cause considerable problems to engineering projects. The experiments show that soil amendment using this method, well prevents the settlement of collapsible soils giving rise to bearing capacity.

文摘Different criteria and factors are used in different methods of soft soil foundation settlement calculation and engineering geological zoning. The methods used are not universally suitable for complex geological environments. The post-construction settlement of soft soil foundations are especially large and difficult to calculate. In addition, there are many deficiencies in the current methods used for engineering geological zoning.Focusing on the need of establishing engineering geological zoning for areas with soft soil foundations in the Tianjin Marine Economic Area, combination weighting and extension methods were introduced. An evaluation model for the settlement of soft soil foundations was established using multiple factors and large amounts of data. This evaluation model is accurate and objective for delineating engineering geological zoning. These methods eliminate deficiencies by considering both objective and subjective factors, and help obtain an objective and accurate result.

文摘Rare earth elements (REEs) have been proved ideal tracers for soil erosion and aggregation. REE tracer method (REETM) used to study soil erosion, as a new technique, has been developed in recent 20 yr. It is able to quantitatively monitor the temporal and spatial variation of erosion intensity, compared with traditional approaches. The applications of REETM in studying of sediment differentiation law, erosion process evolution, determination of sediment sources and sedimentation investigations, and determination of prediction parameters, were reviewed. Some application limitations were summarized.
