The effects of seamounts on sound propagation are analyzed by using the broadband signals. It is observed that the transmission loss (TL) decreases up to 7 dB for the signals in the first shadow zone due to the seamount reflection. Moreover, the TL might increase more than 30 dB in the converge zone due to the shadowing by seamounts. Abnormal TLs and pulse arrival structures at different ranges are explained by using the ray and wave theory. The experimental TLs and arrival pulses are compared with the numerical results and found to be in good agreement.展开更多

Results show that ( αλ), not only increases with pH but also increases approximately linearly with pressure and temperature, and is nearly proportional to the 1. 35 power of salinity. However, pressure, pH and salinity have negligible effect on ∫r; therefore, ∫r, can be approximately expressed as a function of temperature only. Comparisons of the predicted with the measured ( αλ)r and ∫r in different ocean areas are given.展开更多

Finite element equations regarding generalized magneto-thermoelasticity problems with two relaxation times (i.e., the G-L theory) are derived using the principle of virtual work. For avoiding numerical complication involved in inverse Laplace and Fourier transformation and low precision thereof, the equations are solved directly in time-domain. As a numerical example, the derived equation is used to investigate the generalized magneto-thermoelastic behavior of a semi-infinite plate under magnetic field and subjecting to a thermal shock loading. The results demonstrate that FEM can faithfully predict the deformation of the plate and the induced magnetic field, and most importantly can reveal the sophisticated second sound effect of heat conduction in two-dimensional generalized thermoelastic solids, which is usually difficult to model by routine transformation methods. A peak can be observed in the distribution of stress and induced front and the magnitude of magnetic field at the heat wave the peak decreases with time, which can not be obtained by transformation methods. The new method can also be used to study generalized piezo-thermoelastic problems.展开更多

Without sound, the impact of storytelling is reduced or the story is even not under- standable. Despite the importance of sound, most animators are unfamiliar with sound editing software. Limited budget projects such as independent or student works have difficulty hiring sound professionals to create tailor-made soundtrack. Therefore, we need a suitable sound tool to express their individual ideas. In this paper, we propose an approach using schematic for both computer animation and sound. Our approach provides (1) physical simulation on sound through animation parameters and (2) a new channel for animators to add aesthetic values in sound through their experience of using schematics in existing animation software. We demonstrate our idea through several examples, such as Doppler shift, obstacle effect, importance, energetic, and sputtering effect.展开更多

The function of noise shielding is justified by both the far-field and near-field full-wave simulations based on the finite element method. The enlargement of equivalent acoustic scattering cross sections is revealed to be the physical mechanism for this function. This work makes it possible to design a window with both noise shielding and air flow.展开更多

The effects of duct geometry , the flow Mach number at the throat, the sound source intensity at the inlet and the anti- sound intensity on the nonlinear sound propagation are discussed through several examples. It is also shown from the examples that there is an optimal anti-sound intensity at which a remarkable sound attenuation can be obtained at the exit.展开更多

To this end, the present study is twofold. Firstly, the StraightForward impedance eduction Method(SFM) is evaluated by the strategy that the impedance of a liner specimen is firstly experimentally educed on a flow duct using the SFM, and then its accuracy is checked by comparing the numerical prediction with the measured wall sound pressure of the flow duct. Secondly, the effects of grazing flow and high-intensity sound on the impedance behavior of two single-layer liners are investigated based on comparisons between educed impedance and predictions by three impedance models. The performance of the SFM is validated by showing that the educed impedance leads to excellent agreement between the simulation and the measured wall sound pressure for different grazing flow Mach numbers and Sound Pressure Levels(SPLs) and over a frequency range from 3000 Hz down to 500 Hz. The grazing flow effect generally has the tendency that the acoustic resistance exhibits a slight decrease before it increases linearly with an increase in Mach, predicted successfully by the sound-vortex interaction theoretical model and the Kooi semi-empirical impedance model. However, the Goodrich semi-empirical impedance model gives only a simple linear relation of acoustic resistance starting from Mach zero. Additionally, when the SPL increases from 110 to 140 d B in the present investigation, the acoustic resistance exhibits a significant increase at all frequencies in the absence of flow; however, the resistance decreases slightly under a grazing flow of Mach 0.117. It indicates that the SPL effect can be greatly inhibited when flow is present, and the grazing flow effect can be reduced partly as well at a relatively high SPL.展开更多
