The space-time DG method developed in [29] is applied to solve the un-derlying problem. Unconditional L2-stability and error estimate of order O?τr+1+hk+1/2? are obtained when polynomials of degree at most r and k are used for the temporal dis-cretization and spatial discretization respectively. 2-D and 3-D numerical examples are given to validate the theoretical results. The existence and uniqueness of the weak solution are proved without any assumptions on choice of the spacetime meshes. Basic error estimates in L-infinity (L-2) norm, that is maximum-norm in time, L-2-norm in space are obtained. The purpose of this work is to implement a discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method with a one-sided flux for a singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equation(VIDE)with a smooth kernel.First,the regularity property and a decomposition of the exact solution of the singularly perturbed VIDE with the initial condition are provided.Then the existence and uniqueness of the DG solution are proven.Then some appropriate projection-type interpolation operators and their corresponding approximation properties are established.Based on the decomposition of the exact solution and the approximation properties of the projection type interpolants,the DG method achieves the uniform convergence in the L2 norm with respect to the singular perturbation parameter e when the space of polynomials with degree p is used.A numerical experiment validates the theoretical results.Furthermore,an ultra-convergence order 2p+1 at the nodes for the one-sided flux,uniform with respect to the singular perturbation parameter e,is observed numerically. 展开更多

In this article,we consider to solve the inverse initial value problem for an inhomogeneous space-time fractional diffusion equation.This problem is ill-posed and the quasi-boundary value method is proposed to deal with this inverse problem and obtain the series expression of the regularized solution for the inverse initial value problem.We prove the error estimates between the regularization solution and the exact solution by using an a priori regularization parameter and an a posteriori regularization parameter choice rule.Some numerical results in one-dimensional case and two-dimensional case show that our method is efficient and stable. 展开更多

In this paper,we develop bound-preserving discontinuous Galerkin(DG)methods for chemical reactive flows.There are several difficulties in constructing suitable numerical schemes.First of all,the density and internal energy are positive,and the mass fraction of each species is between 0 and 1.Second,due to the rapid reaction rate,the system may contain stiff sources,and the strong-stability-preserving explicit Runge-Kutta method may result in limited time-step sizes.To obtain physically relevant numerical approximations,we apply the bound-preserving technique to the DG methods.Though traditional positivity-preserving techniques can successfully yield positive density,internal energy,and mass fractions,they may not enforce the upper bound 1 of the mass fractions.To solve this problem,we need to(i)make sure the numerical fluxes in the equations of the mass fractions are consistent with that in the equation of the density;(ii)choose conservative time integrations,such that the summation of the mass fractions is preserved.With the above two conditions,the positive mass fractions have summation 1,and then,they are all between 0 and 1.For time discretization,we apply the modified Runge-Kutta/multi-step Patankar methods,which are explicit for the flux while implicit for the source.Such methods can handle stiff sources with relatively large time steps,preserve the positivity of the target variables,and keep the summation of the mass fractions to be 1.Finally,it is not straightforward to combine the bound-preserving DG methods and the Patankar time integrations.The positivity-preserving technique for DG methods requires positive numerical approximations at the cell interfaces,while Patankar methods can keep the positivity of the pre-selected point values of the target variables.To match the degree of freedom,we use polynomials on rectangular meshes for problems in two space dimensions.To evolve in time,we first read the polynomials at the Gaussian points.Then,suitable slope limiters can be applied to enforce the positivity of the solutions at those points,which can be preserved by the Patankar methods,leading to positive updated numerical cell averages.In addition,we use another slope limiter to get positive solutions used for the bound-preserving technique for the flux.Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

In this paper,numerical experiments are carried out to investigate the impact of penalty parameters in the numerical traces on the resonance errors of high-order multiscale discontinuous Galerkin(DG)methods(Dong et al.in J Sci Comput 66:321–345,2016;Dong and Wang in J Comput Appl Math 380:1–11,2020)for a one-dimensional stationary Schrödinger equation.Previous work showed that penalty parameters were required to be positive in error analysis,but the methods with zero penalty parameters worked fine in numerical simulations on coarse meshes.In this work,by performing extensive numerical experiments,we discover that zero penalty parameters lead to resonance errors in the multiscale DG methods,and taking positive penalty parameters can effectively reduce resonance errors and make the matrix in the global linear system have better condition numbers. 展开更多

In this paper,we construct a high-order discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method which can preserve the positivity of the density and the pressure for the viscous and resistive magnetohydrodynamics(VRMHD).To control the divergence error in the magnetic field,both the local divergence-free basis and the Godunov source term would be employed for the multi-dimensional VRMHD.Rigorous theoretical analyses are presented for one-dimensional and multi-dimensional DG schemes,respectively,showing that the scheme can maintain the positivity-preserving(PP)property under some CFL conditions when combined with the strong-stability-preserving time discretization.Then,general frameworks are established to construct the PP limiter for arbitrary order of accuracy DG schemes.Numerical tests demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose a novel Local Macroscopic Conservative(LoMaC)low rank tensor method with discontinuous Galerkin(DG)discretization for the physical and phase spaces for simulating the Vlasov-Poisson(VP)system.The LoMaC property refers to the exact local conservation of macroscopic mass,momentum,and energy at the discrete level.The recently developed LoMaC low rank tensor algorithm(arXiv:2207.00518)simultaneously evolves the macroscopic conservation laws of mass,momentum,and energy using the kinetic flux vector splitting;then the LoMaC property is realized by projecting the low rank kinetic solution onto a subspace that shares the same macroscopic observables.This paper is a generalization of our previous work,but with DG discretization to take advantage of its compactness and flexibility in handling boundary conditions and its superior accuracy in the long term.The algorithm is developed in a similar fashion as that for a finite difference scheme,by observing that the DG method can be viewed equivalently in a nodal fashion.With the nodal DG method,assuming a tensorized computational grid,one will be able to(i)derive differentiation matrices for different nodal points based on a DG upwind discretization of transport terms,and(ii)define a weighted inner product space based on the nodal DG grid points.The algorithm can be extended to the high dimensional problems by hierarchical Tucker(HT)decomposition of solution tensors and a corresponding conservative projection algorithm.In a similar spirit,the algorithm can be extended to DG methods on nodal points of an unstructured mesh,or to other types of discretization,e.g.,the spectral method in velocity direction.Extensive numerical results are performed to showcase the efficacy of the method. 展开更多

This paper provides a study on the stability and time-step constraints of solving the linearized Korteweg-de Vries(KdV)equation,using implicit-explicit(IMEX)Runge-Kutta(RK)time integration methods combined with either finite difference(FD)or local discontinuous Galerkin(DG)spatial discretization.We analyze the stability of the fully discrete scheme,on a uniform mesh with periodic boundary conditions,using the Fourier method.For the linearized KdV equation,the IMEX schemes are stable under the standard Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy(CFL)conditionτ≤λh.Here,λis the CFL number,τis the time-step size,and h is the spatial mesh size.We study several IMEX schemes and characterize their CFL number as a function ofθ=d/h^(2)with d being the dispersion coefficient,which leads to several interesting observations.We also investigate the asymptotic behaviors of the CFL number for sufficiently refined meshes and derive the necessary conditions for the asymptotic stability of the IMEX-RK methods.Some numerical experiments are provided in the paper to illustrate the performance of IMEX methods under different time-step constraints. 展开更多

Space-time disease cluster detection assists in conducting disease surveillance and implementing control strategies.The state-of-the-art method for this kind of problem is the Space-time Scan Statistics(SaTScan)which has limitations for non-traditional/non-clinical data sources due to its parametric model assumptions such as Poisson orGaussian counts.Addressing this problem,an Eigenspace-based method called Multi-EigenSpot has recently been proposed as a nonparametric solution.However,it is based on the population counts data which are not always available in the least developed countries.In addition,the population counts are difficult to approximate for some surveillance data such as emergency department visits and over-the-counter drug sales,where the catchment area for each hospital/pharmacy is undefined.We extend the population-based Multi-EigenSpot method to approximate the potential disease clusters from the observed/reported disease counts only with no need for the population counts.The proposed adaptation uses an estimator of expected disease count that does not depend on the population counts.The proposed method was evaluated on the real-world dataset and the results were compared with the population-based methods:Multi-EigenSpot and SaTScan.The result shows that the proposed adaptation is effective in approximating the important outputs of the population-based methods. 展开更多

A Space-Time Interior Penalty Discontinuous Galerkin Method for the Wave Equation

A new higher-order accurate space-time discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method using the interior penalty flux and discontinuous basis functions,both in space and in time,is pre-sented and fully analyzed for the second-order scalar wave equation.Special attention is given to the definition of the numerical fluxes since they are crucial for the stability and accuracy of the space-time DG method.The theoretical analysis shows that the DG discre-tization is stable and converges in a DG-norm on general unstructured and locally refined meshes,including local refinement in time.The space-time interior penalty DG discre-tization does not have a CFL-type restriction for stability.Optimal order of accuracy is obtained in the DG-norm if the mesh size h and the time stepΔt satisfy h≅CΔt,with C a positive constant.The optimal order of accuracy of the space-time DG discretization in the DG-norm is confirmed by calculations on several model problems.These calculations also show that for pth-order tensor product basis functions the convergence rate in the L∞and L2-norms is order p+1 for polynomial orders p=1 and p=3 and order p for polynomial order p=2. 展开更多

A new high-order accurate staggered semi-implicit space-time discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method is presented for the simulation of viscous incompressible flows on unstructured triangular grids in two space dimensions.The staggered DG scheme defines the discrete pressure on the primal triangular mesh,while the discrete velocity is defined on a staggered edge-based dual quadrilateral mesh.In this paper,a new pair of equal-order-interpolation velocity-pressure finite elements is proposed.On the primary triangular mesh(the pressure elements),the basis functions are piecewise polynomials of degree N and are allowed to jump on the boundaries of each triangle.On the dual mesh instead(the velocity elements),the basis functions consist in the union of piecewise polynomials of degree N on the two subtriangles that compose each quadrilateral and are allowed to jump only on the dual element boundaries,while they are continuous inside.In other words,the basis functions on the dual mesh arc built by continuous finite elements on the subtriangles.This choice allows the construction of an efficient,quadrature-free and memory saving algorithm.In our coupled space-time pressure correction formulation for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations,the arbitrary high order of accuracy in time is achieved through tire use of time-dependent test and basis functions,in combination with simple and efficient Picard iterations.Several numerical tests on classical benchmarks confirm that the proposed method outperforms existing staggered semi-implicit space-time DG schemes,not only from a computer memory point of view,but also concerning the computational time. 展开更多

This method introduces a promising tool for solving many space-time fractional partial differential equations. In this paper,we propose and analyze a uniformly robust staggered DG method for the unsteady Darcy-Forchheimer-Brinkman problem.Our formulation is based on velocity gradient-velocity-pressure and the resulting scheme can be flexibly applied to fairly general polygonal meshes.We relax the tangential continuity for velocity,which is the key ingredi-ent in achieving the uniform robustness.We present well-posedness and error analysis for both the semi-discrete scheme and the fully discrete scheme,and the theories indicate that the error estimates for velocity are independent of pressure.Several numerical experiments are presented to confirm the theoretical findings. 展开更多

西藏DG水电站工区边坡植被修复效果及生态因子分析

[目的]探究西藏DG水电站工区内边坡植被修复效果及主导生态因子,为提高工区植被修复成功率,治理水土流失,改善生态环境等提供理论依据和技术支撑。[方法]以工区内5种不同类型边坡(渣土堆积体、土质、土石混合、岩质、混凝土)为研究对象,选取土壤相对湿度、气温、坡度、坡向为生态因子,通过实地监测和取样分析,采用熵权法计算植被特征(物种多样性、物种丰富度、植被盖度)和土壤肥力(有机质、速效磷、速效氮、速效钾)权重分值,再由综合评价法计算综合得分,并结合极差分析甄选主导生态因子。[结果]西藏DG水电站工区内渣土堆积体边坡、土质边坡植被修复综合得分最高,均为10.0000,现场植被修复效果最好,而混凝土边坡植被修复综合得分仅为5.3690,现场植被修复效果较差;边坡类型不同,各生态因子对其植被修复影响的强弱不同,即土石混合边坡表现为:土壤相对湿度>坡度>气温>坡向,岩质边坡表现为:土壤相对湿度>气温>坡度>坡向,而土质边坡、混凝土边坡、渣土堆积体边坡均表现为:土壤相对湿度>坡向>坡度>气温,但主导生态因子却均为土壤相对湿度。[结论]影响西藏DG水电站工区内边坡植被修复主导生态因子为土壤相对湿度。不同类型边坡植被修复最优生态因子组合存在较大差异,其中土石混合边坡、岩质边坡、土质边坡、混凝土边坡和渣土堆积体边坡相对湿度和坡度均相同,差异主要体现在坡向和温度两方面。 展开更多
