We compare the predictive power of multiple discriminant analysis (MDA), logistic regression, and n...This paper presents an in-depth analysis of financially distressed listed companies in China between 1998 and 2002. We compare the predictive power of multiple discriminant analysis (MDA), logistic regression, and neural network models. We design and implement 126 different forecasting models using different predictive methods, different sample proportions, and different initial independent variables. The aim is to determine which model(s) and variables are best applicable for the short-term prediction of financial distress in China. We find that logistic regression models are superior to multiple discriminant analysis models in terms of prediction accuracy rate, restriction of sample distribution or prediction cost, but the neural network models show promise in their low Type I and Type II errors. The paper also inherently tests the applicability of variables traditionally used for bankruptcy prediction to the purpose of financial distress prediction in China.展开更多

A special Chinese herbal medicine(SCHM)harvester was designed to address the problems such as the highly labor-intensive process,low harvesting efficiency,and lack of suitable machinery.The designed machine was compri...A special Chinese herbal medicine(SCHM)harvester was designed to address the problems such as the highly labor-intensive process,low harvesting efficiency,and lack of suitable machinery.The designed machine was comprised of three main components,including a reciprocating cutter,a clamping chain,and a counter roller.In addition,a mechanical model of a plant stalk during harvester operation is established to analyze the parameters affecting SCHM harvesting:sprocket rotation speed,counter roller gap,and header inclination angle.Considering the operating mode of the harvester,all three parameters were taken as test factors,and the proportion of lost fruit,the proportion of broken capsules,and the length of the retained stem are the test indicators.According to the test results,the fruit lost was 1.14%,the broken fruit was 1.02%,the stalks with an acceptable length was 82.45%at a sprocket rotation speed of 110 r/min,a roller gap of 9 mm,and a header inclination angle of 5°.The research can provide an effective solution to solve the SCHM harvest problem.Further studies need to do for making this machine more automated and intelligent.展开更多

In this paper, we apply a novel model feature structure to represent Chinese semantic relations, which is formalized as "recursive directed graph". We focus on Chinese special sentence patterns, including the complex noun phrase, verb-complement structure, pivotal sentences, serial verb sentence and subject-predicate predicate sentence. Feature structure facilitates a richer Chinese semantic information extraction when compared with dependency structure. The results show that using recursive directed graph is more suitable for extracting Chinese complex semantic relations.展开更多
