In this paper, the nonlinear analysis of stability of functionally graded ma- terial (FGM) sandwich doubly curved shallow shells is studied under thermo-mechanical loads with material properties obeying the general sigmoid law and power law of four ma- terial models. Shells are reinforced by the FGM stiffeners and rest on elastic foundations. Theoretical formulations are derived by the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) with the von Karman-type nonlinearity taking into account the initial geometrical im- perfection and smeared stiffener technique. The explicit expressions for determining the critical buckling load and the post-buckling mechanical and thermal load-deflection curves are obtained by the Galerkin method. Two iterative algorithms are presented. The effects of the stiffeners, the thermal element, the distribution law of material, the initial imper- fection, the foundation, and the geometrical parameters on buckling and post-buckling of shells are investigated. 展开更多

Based on the nonlinear Barton–Bandis(B–B)failure criterion, this study considers the system reliability of rock wedge stability under the pseudo-static seismic load. The failure probability(Pf)of the system is calculated based on the Monte−Carlo method when considering parameter correlation and variability.Parameter analysis and sensitivity analysis are carried out to explore the influence of parameters on reliability. The relationships among the failure probability, safety factor(Fs),and variation coefficient are explored, and then stability probability curves of the rock wedge under the pseudo-static seismic load are drawn. The results show that the parameter correlation of the B–B failure criterion has a significant influence on the failure probability, but correlation increases system reliability or decreases system reliability affected by other parameters.Under the pseudo-static seismic action, sliding on both planes is the main failure mode of wedge system. In addition, the parameters with relatively high sensitivity are two angles related to the joint dip. When the coefficient of variation is consistent, the probability of system failure is a function of the safety factor. 展开更多

To improve maneuverability and stability of articulated vehicles, we design an active steering controller, including tractor and trailer controllers, based on linear quadratic regulator(LQR) theory. First, a three-degree-of-freedom(3-DOF) model of the tractor-trailer with steered trailer axles is built. The simulated annealing particle swarm optimization(SAPSO) algorithm is applied to identify the key parameters of the model under specified vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. Thus, the key parameters of the simplified model can be obtained according to the vehicle conditions using an online look-up table and interpolation. Simulation results show that vehicle parameter outputs of the simplified model and Truck Sim agree well, thus providing the ideal reference yaw rate for the controller. Then the active steering controller of the tractor and trailer based on LQR is designed to follow the desired yaw rate and minimize their side-slip angle of the center of gravity(CG) at the same time. Finally, simulation tests at both low speed and high speed are conducted based on the Truck Sim-Simulink program. The results show significant effects on the active steering controller on improving maneuverability at low speed and lateral stability at high speed for the articulated vehicle. The control strategy is applicable for steering not only along gentle curves but also along sharp curves. 展开更多
