Numerical study of plasmas start-up by electron cyclotron waves in NCST spherical tokamak and CN-H1 stellarator

According to the physics of tokamak start-up,this study constructs a zero-dimensional(0D)model applicable to electron cyclotron(EC)wave assisted start-up in NCST spherical torus(spherical tokamak)and CN-H1 stellarators.Using the constructed 0D model,the results obtained in this study under the same conditions are compared and validated against reference results for pure hydrogen plasma start-up in tokamak.The results are in good agreement,especially regarding electron temperature,ion temperature and plasma current.In the presence of finite Ohmic electric field in the spherical tokamak,a study on the EC wave assisted start-up of the NCST plasma at frequency of 28 GHz is conducted.The impact of the vertical magnetic field B_(v)on EC wave assisted start-up,the relationship between EC wave injection power P_(inj),Ohmic electric field E,and initial hydrogen atom density n_(H0)are explored separately.It is found that under conditions of Ohmic electric field lower than ITER(~0.3 V m^(-1)),EC wave can expand the operational space to achieve better plasma parameters.Simulating the process of28 GHz EC wave start-up in the CN-H1 stellarator plasma,the plasma current in the zerodimensional model is replaced with the current in the poloidal coil of the stellarator.Plasma startup can be successfully achieved at injection powers in the hundreds of kilowatts range,resulting in electron densities on the order of 10^(17)-10^(18)m^(-3).

Training Low-Achiever EFL Learners with Metacognitive Strategy Training for Effective Vocabulary Retention

There is ample research on the vocabulary learning strategies used by EFL and ESL learners.Moreover,many researchers have attempted to discern the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary learning strategies instruction.However,the impact of using metacognitive strategies along with vocabulary learning strategies on weak language learners has not been researched.The aim of this paper is to report on the effects of training low-achiever English as a foreign language learners with vocabulary learning strategies along with metacognitive strategies on vocabulary acquisition.Two B1 level groups of students were assigned as treatment and control groups at a university in Istanbul,Turkey.A Vocabulary Strategy Use Survey was given to identify the vocabulary strategy use of the subjects at the outset of the study.The treatment group was trained on vocabulary learning strategies combined with metacognitive strategy training.The control group studied the same words without any training.A vocabulary test was administered to both groups as a post-test and the results were compared.The findings of the Post-Test demonstrated that training weak language learners with vocabulary learning strategies along with metacognitive strategies has a positive impact on helping these learners increase their lexical knowledge,as the experimental group scored higher on the post-test compared to the control group.

通用学术词表Academic Vocabulary List(AVL)修订述略

学术英语词汇是学术英语教学的重点和难点,不同时代和学科曾编写过各类学术词表。加德纳和戴维斯(2014)基于学术语料容量达1.2亿的COCA语料库推出学术词表Academic Vocabulary List(AVL),该词表在学术英语教学和研究中得到广泛应用。然而实践表明,AVL词表收录的3015个词元存在词汇重复、以词元为单位排列的词表和以词族为单位排列的词表不相吻合等问题。本研究尝试以科学性原则、适切性原则、时效性原则为指导,基于AVL词表原有的比率、分布、离散度、学科指数四条选词标准,增加最低频次和经验判断两条新标准对AVL词表予以完善和修订。完善修订后的AVL词表由先前的1991个词族、3015个词元缩减至709个词族1715个词元,较修订前更具简洁性和高效性。希望依据3项原则和6项标准所做的修订为学术英语教与学以及学术英语教材编写和选用带来新的参考。

A Study of the Use and Translation of Archaic Functional Vocabulary in the Berne Convention

The archaic functional vocabulary is highly with the legal features of formality and conservativeness and still holding a place in legal English.The Berne Convention is a good example to study the use and translation of the archaic functional vocabulary.By studying what archaic functional words or phrases are used in the Berne Convention,their meanings and the different use frequencies of them between the Berne Convention and the Copy Right Law of PRC,it has been found that arhcaic adverbs are used of low frequency,while some adjectives or adjectival groups as well as some prepositions or prepositional phrases are used of high frequencies.The use frequencies of the archaic functional vocabulary is higher in the Berne Convention than those in the Copy Right law of PRC.Some suggestions can be put forward to help improve translating Chinese legal documents into English or writing English legal documents.

Numerical Simulation of a Two-Phase Flow with Low Permeability anda Start-Up Pressure Gradient

A new numerical model for low-permeability reservoirs is developed.The model incorporates the nonlinear characteristics of oil-water two-phase flows while taking into account the initiation pressure gradient.Related numerical solutions are obtained using a finite difference method.The correctness of the method is demonstrated using a two-dimensional inhomogeneous low permeability example.Then,the differences in the cumulative oil and water production are investigated for different starting water saturations.It is shown that when the initial water saturation grows,the water content of the block continues to rise and the cumulative oil production gradually decreases.

Dynamic evaluation of a scaled-down heat pipe-cooled system during start-up/shut-down processes using a hardware-in-the-loop test approach

Micro-mobile heat pipe-cooled nuclear power plants are promising candidates for distributed energy resource power genera-tors and can be flexibly deployed in remote places to meet increasing electric power demands.However,previous steady-state simulations and experiments have deviated significantly from actual micronuclear system operations.Hence,a transient analysis is required for performance optimization and safety assessment.In this study,a hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)approach was used to investigate the dynamic behavior of scaled-down heat pipe-cooled systems.The real-time features of the HIL architecture were interpreted and validated,and an optimal time step of 500 ms was selected for the thermal transient.The power transient was modeled using point kinetic equations,and a scaled-down thermal prototype was set up to avoid mod-eling unpredictable heat transfer behaviors and feeding temperature samples into the main program running on a desktop PC.A series of dynamic test results showed significant power and temperature oscillations during the transient process,owing to the inconsistency of the rapid nuclear reaction rate and large thermal inertia.The proposed HIL approach is stable and effective for further studying of the dynamic characteristics and control optimization of solid-state small nuclear-powered systems at an early prototyping stage.

A Quasi-Experimental Study of English Vocabulary Teaching Based on Incidental Acquisition

Recent years have witnessed a phenomenon that major English teachers in China have adopted the traditional teaching pattern, mechanically linking English pronunciations directly with the meaning of Chinese, which gradually dampens learners’ enthusiasm. The chief purpose of this paper was to design one English vocabulary teaching lesson based on incidental acquisition. More specifically, the questions raised are, on the one hand, whether incidental vocabulary teaching imprints differences on the learning outcomes for middle school students, and, on the other hand, whether incidental acquisition results in positive feedback between teachers and students. The technique we applied was referred to as questionnaires and interviews addressed to a sample of 68 students. Focusing on the effect of incidental vocabulary acquisition, the analysis demonstrated that it could enhance students’ vocabulary capacity. In addition, it was interesting to note that excellent students and average students tended to embrace the new teaching style while underachievers were on the opposite side. On this basis, it is recommended for English teachers to design English vocabulary lessons, adopting visual, auditory, oral, reading or writing training. More precisely, they should use phonics rules and patterns, holistic learning, classified vocabulary teaching, visual illustration or multimedia teaching to give lessons effectively and expand learners’ vocabulary.

The Effectiveness of Explicit Vocabulary Instruction on Productive Vocabulary Learning in Writing Among Intermediate School Learners in Saudi Arabia

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of explicit vocabulary instruction on productive vocabulary learning in writing among intermediate school learners in Saudi Arabia,verify the existence of any statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the post-test of the control group and the experimental group in the vocabulary test,and verify the existence of any statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the pre-and post-test of the experimental group in the vocabulary test in favor of the post-test.The study community consisted of all intermediate school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,while the study sample included 30 students.The experimental method was adopted to identify the effectiveness of explicit vocabulary instruction on productive vocabulary learning in writing and the achievement test was used as the study tool.The study reached many results including there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the post-test of the control group and the experimental group in the vocabulary test and there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the pre-and post-test of the experimental group in the vocabulary test in favor of the post-test.According to these results,some recommendations and proposals were made including training English teachers at the intermediate school level in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,on explicit vocabulary instruction and conducting future researches on the trends of English teachers at the intermediate school level,in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,regarding the adoption of explicit vocabulary instruction while teaching the English language.

Research on Vocabulary Learning in English Classroom Teaching Based on Corpus

The difficulty of learning English is not only related to interest,but also related to the correctness of learning methods.Especially in English teaching,a comprehensive and in-depth mastery of vocabulary can improve the level of English language,learn English knowledge better,and improve the level of cross-cultural communication.The application of corpus in English classroom vocabulary teaching can provide more educational space for vocabulary teaching,enrich teaching methods,and at the same time,facilitate students to learn vocabulary and lay a foundation for learning English language.To this end,this article first describes the important role of corpus application in vocabulary learning in English classroom teaching.Secondly,it discusses the difficulties of vocabulary learning and the factors that affect the quality of learning.Finally,in order to enhance the learning effect of students and improve the teaching level,several learning strategies have been formulated to continuously highlight the practicality of the corpus.

Ecological Classroom Model for Vocabulary Teaching Based on Markov Chain

This paper explores the current English vocabulary teaching classroom based on an eco-linguistic perspective and the Markov chain,points out the ecological imbalance in the English vocabulary classroom,and proposes measures to solve the problem and strategies to build an ecological English vocabulary learning classroom,in order to provide some reference for future English vocabulary curriculum reform and curriculum design.In this paper,a random sample of 20 students from each class was taken from an advanced arts class and an advanced science class.The results show that after a semester of teaching process,the overall English scores of the arts and science classes improved,and since,the arts classes improved more and the teachers’teaching quality was better.

English Translation of Chinese Traditional Cultural Vocabulary Under the Context of Cultural Dissemination

The influence of Chinese culture in English-speaking countries is still not as significant as that of Japan and other East Asian countries.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the English translation of vocabulary with Chinese elements.Based on the main purpose of cultural dissemination,this article briefly classifies vocabulary with Chinese elements,explores translation strategies for Chinese traditional cultural vocabulary,and summarizes the actual cultural propaganda effects.The article also provides insights and suggestions for subsequent strategy applications.

A Study on Mobile Terminal-Based Deep Learning of English Vocabulary from a Multimodal Perspective

Within the cognitive theory of multimedia learning framework,this study explores the practical path to realize the deep learning of mobile terminal-based English vocabulary.It also discusses how to stimulate learners’positive emotions to learn actively,construct a mental lexicon,and encourage learners to use high-order thinking to realize the transfer and innovation of knowledge.

象似性手势和指示性手势对自闭症儿童动作相关词汇学习的影响

本研究考察了自闭症儿童在象似性手势、指示性手势和无手势条件下的动作相关词汇的学习情况。选取三组语言水平匹配的高功能自闭症儿童,分别在象似性手势、指示性手势和无手势条件下进行动作相关词汇的学习。在第一次学习结束(T1)和最后一次学习结束2~3天后(T2)分别进行词汇理解和词汇命名测试。结果发现:(1)与其他手势类型相比,象似性手势对自闭症儿童的词汇理解有明显的促进作用;(2)无论哪个组别,学习次数的增加均有助于词汇学习成绩的提高;(3)对词汇命名,所有组别在短期学习条件下的表现都较差,但随着学习次数的增加,象似性手势对词汇命名的促进作用逐渐凸显。研究表明,象似性手势对自闭症儿童动作相关词汇的学习有一定的促进作用;命名任务下象似性手势的促进作用受到学习次数的调节,当学习次数足够多时,象似性手势的优势才得以体现;指示性手势对自闭症儿童动作相关词汇的学习并未表现出促进作用。

A Study on Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition Under the Categorization Theory

In cognitive linguistics,debates on the status and functions of categorization have been a heated issue.In semantics and second language acquisition,scholars have discussed and achieved vocabulary acquisition from different perspectives and academic levels.Vocabulary learning exerts a fundamental role in second language vocabulary acquisition(SLVA),and it is closely related to learners’cognitive competence.However,studies on second language vocabulary acquisition under the categorization theory in cognitive linguistics have received less attention from linguists when compared with other studies.This paper employs two representative dimensions,the basic-level effect and the prototype effect,under the categorization theory to further delve into the implications on second language vocabulary acquisition.This article first provides a comprehensive introduction to the nature and the approaches of the categorization theory,and then analyzes the relations and implications for second language vocabulary acquisition under the categorization theory from the perspective of the basic-level and the prototype effects.The research results showed that the basic-level effect on SLVA is mainly on the classification of word categories distinguished from the superordinate and subordinate categories,while the prototype effect is more on understanding the complexity and use of word meaning.

Unveiling the Pedagogical Potency of Quizlet:Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition and Academic Performance Among Business English Major Students in China

The effectiveness of Quizlet,an online vocabulary learning tool,in enhancing vocabulary acquisition and academic performance among Business English major students in China was investigated in this study.With emphasis on the importance of vocabulary proficiency for English learners,especially those in English-related majors,this research aimed to understand the impact of Quizlet on vocabulary mastery and its connection to overall academic success.A one-academic-year longitudinal experiment was carried out involving two classes,utilizing quantitative methods for assessing vocabulary retention and academic progress.Improvement was seen in the final exam rankings and vocabulary retention rates in Quizlet-engaged classes.Hopefully,this study could provide valuable insights for educators,curriculum designers,and researchers,guiding the optimization of language acquisition strategies in the digital age.

词汇推理是学习者获取词汇词义的一种认知加工过程。本文主要研究词汇推理策略训练对接受性词汇和产出性词汇习得的影响。结果表明,词汇推理策略训练对接受性词汇和产出性词汇的习得均有积极影响,经过语义认知加工的产出性词汇习得效果更好。

语言符号与知觉符号表征对外语词汇习得的影响比较:来自行为与脑电的实验证据

通过行为与脑电实验技术,比较外语词汇学习过程中,语言符号与知觉符号表征对词汇记忆编码与再认的影响过程,从而考察语义表征对词汇习得的影响机制。行为结果表明,语言符号与知觉符号表征条件下被试对词汇学习效果的主观判断无显著差异,但后者比前者有更高的词汇再认正确率。脑电结果表明,对于词汇编码阶段,相较语言符号表征,知觉符号表征在编码晚期诱发更正的LPC成分;对于词汇再认阶段,知觉符号表征条件诱发更大N400成分,且脑电时频分析表明该条件下出现更为明显的μ波抑制及θ波功率增强现象。研究结果综合表明,与语言符号表征便捷但非模态化的语义加工相比,知觉符号表征加深了词汇晚期编码的深度,并通过知觉模拟,利用多模态信息提高了词汇的形象化再认,从而推动了再认阶段的语义检索,最终内隐性地提高了词汇学习效果。

新颖词语义韵的发生机制:“双枣树”效应的证据

以中文母语者为被试开展词汇学习实验,既操控新颖词出现的语境情感(积极、消极、中性),又操控语境的变异性(重复、变化),检验语境情感是否可通过阅读接触,从语境迁移到新颖词以及这种迁移是否影响新颖词习得的效果,从而探索新颖词语义韵的发生机制。196名被试参加了实验,他们在不同的语境情感和语境的变异性条件下一共阅读了45个篇章,然后对9个新颖词进行情感效价评分并参加了三种不同的词汇知识测试。结果显示,只有在重复阅读相同材料的条件下,语境的情感才顺利地迁移到新颖词,表现出明显的“双枣树”效应,而与此相反的是,只有在变化语境下,语境情感才对新颖词词形及词义的学习具有显著的预测作用,在越积极的情感语境里,词形和词义的习得效果也越好。“双枣树”效应有效地解释了新颖词语义韵的发生机制,也为新词学习提供了重要启示。

“中文+”背景下职业中文词汇特征的分析与教学——基于工程机械运用技术中文分级词表

专业词汇是职业中文教学的重点和难点,专业词汇系统的构成与规律,是提高职业中文教学质量的有效抓手。文章基于前期研制的工程机械运用技术中文分级词表,考察其中的词素类型、构词法以及词义结构组织。研究发现,在该词表中,单纯词素占有绝对数量优势,且构词能力比合成词素高;复合词有偏正、联合、动宾、补充和主谓等五种构词法,其中偏正式复合词的数量最多,并存在大量“修饰语+中心概念词”形式;主要存在同词素组、同义组、反义组、分割对象组、配伍搭配组等多种类型结构。以上发现,揭示了工程机械运用技术中文词汇的构成特点和聚合性规律,为职业中文专业词汇教学提供依据。
