As a new ionic polymer-metal composite(IPMC) for artificial muscle, the mechanical performance parameters and the relationship between the deformation and the electrical parameters of the IPMC were studied. With the digital speckle correlation method, the constitutive relationship of the IPMC was confirmed. With non-contact photography measurement,a cantilever setup was designed to confirm the relationship between the deformation of the IPMC film and the applied voltage. The relationship curve of tip displacement of the IPMC cantilever setup vs the voltage was achieved. The results indicate that the IPMC is isotropic, its elastic modulus is 232 MPa and Poisson ratio is 0.163. The curve achieved from the test of the tip displacement of the IPMC cantilever setup shows that the tip displacement reaches the maximum when the stimulated voltage is 5 V. And the tip displacement descends largely when the frequency of the applied voltage is between 30 mHz and 100 mHz. 展开更多

In this paper, based on the second-order Taylor series expansion and the difference of convex functions algo- rithm for quadratic problems with box constraints (the DCA for QB), a new method is proposed to solve the static response problem of structures with fairly large uncertainties in interval parameters. Although current methods are effective for solving the static response problem of structures with interval parameters with small uncertainties, these methods may fail to estimate the region of the static response of uncertain structures if the uncertainties in the parameters are fairly large. To resolve this problem, first, the general expression of the static response of structures in terms of structural parameters is derived based on the second-order Taylor series expansion. Then the problem of determining the bounds of the static response of uncertain structures is transformed into a series of quadratic problems with box constraints. These quadratic problems with box constraints can be solved using the DCA approach effectively. The numerical examples are given to illustrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the proposed method when comparing with other existing methods. 展开更多

The feasibility of longer spans relies on the successful implementation of new high-strength light weight materials such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP). First, a dimensionless equilibrium equation and the corresponding compatibility equation are established to develop the cable force equation and cable displacement governing equation for suspension cables, respectively. Subsequently, the inextensible cable case is introduced. The formula of the Irvine parameter is considered and its physical interpretation as well as its relationship with the chord gravity stiffness is presented. The influences on the increment of cable force and displacement by λ2 and load ratio p′ are analyzed, respectively. Based on these assumptions and the analytical formulations, a 2000 m span suspension cable is utilized as an example to verify the proposed formulation and the responses of the relative increment of cable force and cable displacement under symmetrical and asymmetrical loads are studied and presented. In each case, the deflections resulting from elastic elongation or solely due to geometrical displacement are analyzed for the lower elastic modulus CFRP. Finally, in comparison with steel cables, the influences on the cable force equation and the governing displacement equation by span and rise span ratio are analyzed. Moreover, the influences on the static performance of suspension bridge by span and sag ratios are also analyzed. The substantive characteristics of the static performance of super span CFRP suspension bridges are clarified and the superiority and the characteristics of CFRP cable structure are demonstrated analytically. 展开更多

The unusual properties of quasicrystals(QCs)have attracted tremendous attention from researchers. In this paper,a semi-analytical solution is presented for the static response of a functionally graded(FG)multilayered two-dimensional(2 D)decagonal QC rectangular plate with mixed boundary conditions.Based on the elastic theory of FG 2 D QCs,the state-space method is used to derive the state equations composed of partial differential along the thickness direction.Besides, the Fourier series expansion and the differential quadrature technique are utilized to simulate the simply supported boundary conditions and the mixed boundary conditions, respectively. Then, the propagator matrix which connects the field variables at the upper interface to those at the lower interface of any homogeneous layer can be derived based on the state equations.Combined with the interface continuity condition, the static response can be obtained by imposing the sinusoidal load on the top surfaces of laminates. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to verify the effectiveness of this method, and the results are very useful for the design and understanding of the characterization of FG QC materials in their applications to multilayered systems. 展开更多

Temperature is a significant load on bridges, particularly for long-span steel box girder bridges. This study investigates the temperature-induced static responses of a long-span suspension bridge under real service environmental conditions using numerical simulations and field measurements.Detailed 2 D finite element(FE)models of a typical section for the box girder, main cable, hanger, tower column, and crossbeam are constructed. The thermal boundary conditions are determined strictly according to the surrounding environments of a typical sunny day and applied to the FE models.A transient heat-transfer analysis is performed and the time-dependent temperature and its distribution on the bridge are obtained. In addition,a fine,3 D FE model of the bridge is developed for a structural analysis. The calculated temperatures are applied to the 3 D model and the temperature-induced structural responses are simulated. The simulated temperatures and the associated static responses have good agreement with the measured counterparts and support the numerical simulation method. The main cable and bridge deck make the greatest contributions to the temperature effects on the suspension bridge. The static responses of bridge caused by the design vehicle load are also calculated. The daily variation of the temperature-induced static responses is comparable with, even higher than, that of the design vehicle load. 展开更多

A quadratic coupling enabled parametric oscillation in an optomechanical system is used to modify the nonlinear static responses of a mechanical oscillator with a normal linear coupling. The mean value study showed that the modification of the static response on a mechanical oscillator is extremely sensitive and useful, which can readily enhance or suppress the nonlinear displacement response from a bistability case to singlet or triplet well case, freely bifurcating the equilibrium position from one to two or three. The static equilibria structure and the stability regions for mean-value controls on nano-oscillator were analyzed trader the possible modification parameters. 展开更多

In this paper, we consider a MUSIC algorithm for locating point-like scatterers contained in a sample on flat substrate. Based on an asymptotic expansion of the scattering amplitude proposed by Ammari et al., the reconstruction problem can be reduced to a calculation of Green function corresponding to the background medium. In addition, we use an explicit formulation of Green function in the MUSIC algorithm to simplify the calculation when the cross-section of sample is a half-disc. Numerical experiments are included to demonstrate the feasibility of this method. 展开更多

The response of random plate and shell construction is analyzed with the stochastic finite element method (SFEM). Random material properties and geometric dimensions of construction are involved in this paper. A simplified isoparametric local average model is used to describe the random field. Numerical results of the examples indicate that the approach presented herein is an economical and efficient solution for such an analysis compared with Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). 展开更多
