The advanced time-frequency spectrum analysis reveals varied non-stationary vibrations with timevarying frequencies, which are correlated with certain system natural modes characterized by finite element analysis. Under the effects of strong wind load, the wind turbine system exhibits certain resonances due to blade passing excitations. The system also exhibits certain instabilities due to the coupling of the tower bending modes and blade flapwise mode with blade passing excitations under the variation of wind speed. An analytical model is used to elaborate the non-stationary and instability phenomena observed in experimental results. The properties of the nonlinear instabilities are evaluated by using Lyapunov exponent estimation.展开更多

In the present paper, the Orr-Sommerfeld equation combined with measured velocity profiles is used to investigate the type of instability behind stationary cylinders, which determines the mechanism of vortex formation. The numerical calculations for Reynolds numbers of 56-140 000 imply that there is a range around the end of the dead water region in cylinder wakes where the instability belongs to the absolute type. Beyond the range, the flows show to be of the convective type. On the other hand, the flows tend to be of the convective instability when Reynolds number is below the subcritical value of forming vortex streets. All of the correspondent Strouhal numbers agree with experimental data very well. The formation of vortex streets behind stationary cylinders is proposed to be caused by an absolute instability in the near wake. There is always an absolute instability region for the Reynolds numbers from 56-140,000. Further, the experimental manipulation of vortex streets according to the stability analysis mentioned above is proved to be very effective.展开更多

The non-associated Drucker-Prager criterion to describe nonlinear constitutive behavior of pressure dependent elasto-plasticity for the media is particularly considered. With no consideration of compressibility of solid grains and the pore fluid, the discontinuity and instability of the wave propagation in saturated porous media axe analyzed for the plane strain problems in detail. The critical conditions of stationary discontinuity and flutter instability in the wave propagation are given. The results and conclusions obtained by the present work will provide some bases or clues for overcoming the difficulties in numerical modeling of wave propagation in the media subjected to dynamic loading.展开更多

The instability at a bifurcation point can be analyzed with the theory of nonlinear dynamics, and that at a limit point can be discussed with the theory of elastoplasticity. In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic instability of structures was treated with mathematical and mechanical theories. The research methods for the problems of structural nonlinear dynamic stability were discussed first, and then the criterion of stability or instability of structures, the method to obtain the bifurcation point and the limit point, and the formulae of the directions of the branch solutions at a bifurcation point were elucidated. These methods can be applied to the problems of nonlinear dynamic instability of structures such as reticulated shells, space grid structures, and so on.
