In order to study their relationship, we selected 56 BL Lacertae objects (33 X-ray-selected, 23 radio-selected) and 45 flat spectrum radio quasars, analyzed their radio luminosities and core-dominance parameters. We found that the radio luminosities of the radio selected BL Lac objects located in between the X-ray selected BL Lac objects and the flat spectrum radio quasars. However, this intermediate position does not hold for the core-dominance parameter; the RBLs have the largest core-dominance parameters. This suggests that the core-dominance parameter can not be taken as a sequencing criterion. We also investigated the correlation between the luminosity and the core-dominance parameter for the three subclasses. We concluded that, here, the sequence XBL-RBL FSRQ still exists.展开更多

In order to observe geomagnetic fluctuations, geomagnetic measurements were carded out in a limited time frame during the partial solar eclipse that occurred on 2011 January 4 and was observed in Canakkale and Ankara, Turkey. Additionally, records of the geomagnetic field spanning 24 hours, obtained from another observatory (in Iznik, Turkey), were also analyzed to check for any peculiar variations. In the data processing stage, a polynomial fit, following the application of a running average routine, was applied to the geomagnetic field data sets. Geomagnetic field data sets indicated there was a characteristic decrease at the beginning of the solar eclipse and this decrease can be well-correlated with previous geomagnetic field measurements that were taken during the total solar eclipse that was observed in Turkey on 2006 March 29. The behavior of the geomagnetic field is also consistent with previous observations in the literature. As a result of these analyses, it can be suggested that eclipses can cause a shielding effect on the geomagnetic field of the Earth.展开更多

We find that the BMR parameters(e.g., latitude, separation, fragment number and strength) are similar to those of ARs. Moreover, based on the maximum likelihood estimation(MLE) method, the frequency distributions representing the occurrence of these BMRs as functions of area and magnetic flux exhibit a power-law behavior, i.e.,dN/dx ∝ x^(-αx), with indices of α_A = 1.98 ± 0.06 and α_F = 1.93 ± 0.05 respectively. We also find that their orientation angles(θ) follow "Hale's Polarity Law" and deviate slightly toward the direction of the solar equator. Consistent with previous findings, we obtain the dependence of orientation angles on latitudes for normal BMRs during the 23 rd solar cycle. The north-south asymmetry of these BMRs is also detected here.展开更多

The Kunming station successfully joined the VLBI tracking of China's first lunar probe "Chang'E-1" together with the other Chinese telescopes: the Beijing Miyun 50-meter radio telescope, Urumqi Nanshan 25-meter radio telescope, and Shanghai Sheshan 25-meter radio telescope, and received the downlinked scientific data together with the Miyun station from October of 2007 to March of 2009. We give an introduction to the new Chinese VLBI facility and investigate its potential applications. Due to its location, the Kunming station can significantly improve the u - v coverage of the European VLBI Network (EVN), in particular, in long baseline observations. The main goals of NVST are high resolution imaging and spectral observations, including measurements of the solar magnetic field. NVST is the primary ground-based facility used by the Chinese solar research community in this solar cycle. It is located by Fuxian Lake in southwest China, where the seeing is good enough to perform high resolution observations. We present a systematic test and analysis of the photometric performance of this telescope. Based on the calibration observations taken on 12 pho- tometric nights, spanning the period from 2004 to 2012, we derived an accurate trans- formation equation between the instrumental ubvri magnitudes and standard Johnson UBV and Cousins RI magnitudes. In particular, the color terms and the extinction coefficients of different passbands are well determined. With these data, we also ob- tained the limiting magnitudes and the photometric precision of TNT. It is worthwhile to point out that the sky background at the Xinglong Observatory became gradually worse over the period from 2005 to 2012 (e.g., -21.4 mag vs. ,-20.1 mag in the V band).展开更多

Telescope systems usually suffer some uncertain disturbances, such as wind load, nonlinear friction and other unknown disturbances. To ensure tracking precision, an acceleration feedback loop which can in- crease the stiffness of such a system is introduced. Moreover, to further improve the tracking precision, we introduce the DOC method which can accurately estimate the disturbance and compensate it. Furthermore, the analysis of tracking accuracy used by this method is proposed. Finally, a few comparative experimental results show that the proposed control method has excellent performance for reducing the tracking error of a telescope system.展开更多

It was fabricated at the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology, and the oper- ation is jointly administered with Yunnan Astronomical Observatory. ONSET is able to observe the Sun in three wavelength windows: He I 10830 A, Ha and white-light at 3600 A and 4250 A, which are selected in order to simultaneously record the dynam- ics of the corona, chromosphere and photosphere respectively. Full-disk or partial-disk solar images with a field of 10~ at three wavelengths can be obtained nearly simultane- ously. It is designed to trace solar eruptions with high spatial and temporal resolutions. This telescope was installed at a new solar observing site near Fuxian Lake in Yunnan Province, southwest China. The site is located at E102N24, with an altitude of 1722 m. The seeing is stable and has high quality. We give a brief description of the scientific objectives and the basic structure of ONSET. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be used to estimate the mirror seeing and the effects of ventilation. In this paper, we present a simplified approach to simulation of mirror seeing for the Chinese Future Giant Telescope (CFGT, 30 m in diameter) with the CFD software ANSYS Icepak. We get the FWHM of the image and the distribution of refractive index structure function (CN2) above the mirror. We demonstrate that thermal control and ventilation are effective ways to improve the image quality. Our simulation results agree with those of other authors for the ELT. To reduce the mirror seeing to a level of 0.5", the suggested temperature excess of the primary mirror above the ambient air for thermal control of the CFGT is 0 - 2 K according to the present results of weakly forced convection. The limitations of the method are also discussed.展开更多

Three sets of filters are installed in a dual layer filterwheel that use Johnson-Cousins UBVRI, Sloan Digital Sky Survey u′g′r′i′z′ and Stomgren uvby. The photometric system and the CCD camera are introduced, followed by detailed analysis of their performances, and determination of the relevant parameters, including gain, readout noise, dark current and linearity of the CCD cam- era. In addition, the parameters describing the site's astro-climate, including typical seeing, statistics on the number of clear nights and average sky brightness, based on data gathered from Sep. 2007 to Aug. 2013, are systematically studied and reported in this work. Photometric calibrations were done using Landolt standard star obser- vations spanning eight nights, which yielded transformation coefficients, photometric precision and system throughput. The limiting magnitudes are simulated using the derived calibration parameters and classic observation conditions at WHO.展开更多

Because of the advantages of having no at- mospheric disturbances and the slow rotation of the Moon, we can make long-term continuous observations of a series of important celestial objects in the near ultra- violet band (245-340 nm), and perform a sky survey of selected areas, which can- not be completed on Earth. We can find characteristic changes in celestial brightness with time by analyzing image data from the MUVT, and deduce the radiation mech- anism and physical properties of these celestial objects after comparing with a phys- ical model. In order to explain the scientific purposes of MUVT, this article analyzes the preprocessing of MUVT image data and makes a preliminary evaluation of data quality. The results demonstrate that the methods used for data collection and prepro- cessing are effective, and the Level 2A and 2B image data satisfy the requirements of follow-up scientific researches.展开更多

The position and attitude of the subreflector are variable in order to improve the efficiency at different elevations. The subreflector model has the goal of improving the antenna's performance. A new fitting formulation which is different from the traditional formulation is proposed to reduce the fitting error in the Y direction. The only difference in the subreflector models of the 65 m radio telescope is the bias of a constant term in the Z direction. We have investigated the effect of movements of the subreflector on the pointing of the antenna. The results of these performance measure- ments made by moving the antenna in elevation show that the subreflector model can effectively improve the efficiency of the 65 m radio telescope at each elevation. An antenna efficiency of about 60% at the Ku band is reached in the whole angular range of elevation.展开更多

Two spectral datasets(set A and B) from near-ultraviolet(NUV) to the optical band were constructed with 44 International Ultraviolet Explorer(IUE) standards, because of the LUT's relatively wide wavelength coverage. Set A was obtained by extrapolating the IUE NUV spectra(λ 〈 3200 ) to the optical band based upon the theoretical spectra of stellar atmosphere models. Set B was composed of theoretical spectra from 2000 to 8000 extracted from the same model grid. In total, seven standards have been observed in15 observational runs until May 2014. The calibration results show that the photometric performance of LUT is highly stable in its first six months of operation. The magnitude zero points obtained from the two spectral datasets are also consistent with each other, i.e., zp = 17.54 ± 0.09 mag(set A) and zp = 17.52 ± 0.07 mag(set B).展开更多

It is located by Fuxian Lake in southwest China, where the seeing is good enough to perform high resolution observations. We first introduce the general conditions at the Fuxian Solar Observatory and the primary science cases of NVST. Then, the basic structures of this telescope and instruments are described in detail. Finally, some typical high resolution data of the solar photosphere and chromosphere are also shown.

文摘The Tsinghua-NAOC (National Astronomical Observatories of China) Telescope (hereafter, TNT) is an 80-cm Cassegrain reflecting telescope located at the Xinglong Observatory of NAOC, with the main scientific goals of monitoring various transients in the universe such as supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, novae, variable stars, and active galactic nuclei. It is worthwhile to point out that the sky background at the Xinglong Observatory became gradually worse over the period from 2005 to 2012 (e.g., -21.4 mag vs. ,-20.1 mag in the V band).

文摘Abstract In this paper, a cascade acceleration feedback control (AFC) enhanced by a disturbance observa- tion and compensation (DOC) method is proposed to improve the tracking precision of telescope systems. Finally, a few comparative experimental results show that the proposed control method has excellent performance for reducing the tracking error of a telescope system.

文摘A new multi-wavelength solar telescope, the Optical and Near-infrared Solar Eruption Tracer (ONSET) of Nanjing University, has been constructed. Some preliminary results are also pre- sented.

文摘In radio astronomy, radio frequency interference(RFI)becomes more and more serious for radio observational facilities. The RFI always influences the search and study of the interesting astronomical objects.Mitigating the RFI becomes an essential procedure in any survey data processing. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST)is an extremely sensitive radio telescope. It is necessary to find out an effective and precise RFI mitigation method for FAST data processing. In this work,we introduce a method to mitigate the RFI in FAST spectral observation and make a statistic for the RFI using~300 h FAST data. The details are as follows.First, according to the characteristics of FAST spectra,we propose to use the Asymmetrically Reweighted Penalized Least Squares algorithm for baseline fitting. Our test results show that it has a good performance.Second,we flag the RFI with four strategies, which are to flag extremely strong RFI,flag long-lasting RFI,flag polarized RFI,and flag beam-combined RFI,respectively. The test results show that all the RFI above a preset threshold could be flagged.Third,we make a statistic for the probabilities of polarized XX and YY RFI in FAST observations. The statistical results could tell us which frequencies are relatively quiescent. With such statistical data,we are able to avoid using such frequencies in our spectral observations. Finally, based on the~300 h FAST data,we obtained an RFI table, which is the most complete database currently for FAST.

文摘Mirror seeing will be one of the key factors influencing image quality of an extremely large ground-based optical telescope (ELT). The limitations of the method are also discussed.

文摘The one-meter telescope at Weihai Observatory (WHO) of Shandong University is an f/8 Cassegrain telescope. The limiting magnitudes are simulated using the derived calibration parameters and classic observation conditions at WHO.
文摘The Moon-based Ultraviolet Telescope (MUVT) is one of the payloads on the Chang'e-3 (CE-3) lunar lander. The results demonstrate that the methods used for data collection and prepro- cessing are effective, and the Level 2A and 2B image data satisfy the requirements of follow-up scientific researches.

文摘A subreflector adjustment system for the Tianma 65 m radio telescope, administered by Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, has been installed to compensate for gravitational deformation of the main re- flector and the structure supporting the subreflector. An antenna efficiency of about 60% at the Ku band is reached in the whole angular range of elevation.

文摘We describe the photometric calibration of the Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope(LUT), the first robotic astronomical telescope working on the lunar surface, for its first six months of operation on the lunar surface. The magnitude zero points obtained from the two spectral datasets are also consistent with each other, i.e., zp = 17.54 ± 0.09 mag(set A) and zp = 17.52 ± 0.07 mag(set B).
