The aim of this study was investigate the effects of heat treatment on the contact angle of Chinese fir, and the indicators affecting the change of contact an-gle change. It was determined that the duration of treatment had significant effect on the change curves of contact angle of Chinese fir wood due to the change curves of contact angle became more centralized and orderly after the specimens heat treated at 180 ℃. Compared with the untreated wood, the contact angle in-creased from 51° to 124° after 4 h treatment, and hydroxyl absorbance of hy-drophilic functional groups decreased from 2.08 to 1.63, while carbonyl absorbance from 0.92 to 0.62. The surface roughness has not significant influence on the con-tact angle. Heat treatment of the Chinese fir caused surface morphological change, which produced hol owed-out phenomenon. The increased surface contact angle caused by heat treatment can be used for outdoor and sauna facilities. 展开更多

Suitable methods for enhancing the volume stability of steel slag utilized as fine aggregate were determined. The effects of steam treatment at 100 ℃ and autoclave treatment under 2.0 MPa on the soundness of steel slag sand were investigated by means of powder ratio, linear expansion, compressive and flexural strength. DTA, EDX, XRD and ethylene glycol methods were employed to analyze both the treated slags and susceptible expansion grains. Experimental results indicate that powder ratio, content of free lime and rate of linear expansion can express the improvement in volume stability of different treated methods. Steam treatment process cannot ultimately prevent specimens from cracking and decrease of strength, but mortar made from autoclave treated slag keeps integration subjected to hot water of 80℃ until 28 d and its strength do not show significant decrement. The hydration of over-burn free lime and periclase phase are the main cause for the disintegration or crack of untreated and steam treated steel slag's specimens. Autoclave treatment process is more effective than steam treatment process on enhancement of volume stability of steel slag. 展开更多

This work aimed to help the bamboo industry develop methodology for producing imperfection-free bamboo boards that can serve either decorative or structural benefit to consumers seeking to engage with the bioeconomy.Specifically, softened and slotted bamboo tubes were handled by a roller device with nails to render crack-free flattened bamboo board.Softening temperature and time were optimized herein according to findings regarding chemical composition and board mechanical properties. The optimal softening parameters for saturated steam heat treatment is proved to be 160°C for 8 min.The flattened bamboo board possesses an increased bending strength of 101.5 MPa and a decreased bending modulus of 7.7 GPa,being compared with only-softened bamboo. The corresponding changing mechanism is determined in-depth by the micro-morphological and mechanical results based on in-situ SEM and AFM technologies.Under the action of nails and rolling processes, the bamboo texture becomes compact with crushed and fragmented conduit walls. The resulting cell cavity then becomes stretched and compressed, taking on a morphology which allows for the mechanical penalties associated with flattening to be avoided.According to the micro-mechanical results obtained by AFM,compared with unflatten bamboo, the Young’s modulus of the cell membrane in transverse direction(YT)decreases to 1.00 GPa while the corresponding Young’s modulus in radial direction(YR)increases to 7.29 GPa. 展开更多

Their colors are relatively light, thus easily discolored due to drying and UV irradiation. In this study, they were dried with five different drying methods, steam treated and exposed to weathering. Their colors were measured using a spectrophotometer and comparisons made both among species and drying methods. For Japanese and Korean pines, high temperature dried and steam-dried specimens showed distinct color differences compared with the controls. Steam treatment discolored the dried specimens of Japanese and Korean pines but did not discolor those of larch. After weathering for 144 days the specimens of Japanese pine showed slight color differences among drying methods. 展开更多

Physicochemical and catalytic properties of phosphorus and boron modified HZSM-5 zeolites treated with 100% steam at 673 K were investigated. The acidity and distribution of acidic sites were studied by infrared spectroscopy using pyridine as probe molecule and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) of ammonia. The structure of the samples was characterized by XRD, and the textural properties of the catalysts were determined by nitrogen isothermal adsorption-desorption measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD results show that the modified samples have no novel crystalline phase, indicating a high dispersion of phosphorus and boron species. After treatment, the microporous volume and surface area of the samples markedly decrease, implying the blockage of the channel. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements suggest that the isothermal type of all samples is a combination of isothermal type I and IV, and all hysteresis loops resemble the H4-type in the IUPAC classification. The total acidity of the modified samples, determined by pyridine adsorption IR and TPD of ammonia, decreases in contrast to that of the parent HZSM-5. The conversion of n-heptane over P and B steam-modified HZSM-5 is higher than that of P and B-modified HZSM-5 zeolites but lower than that of the parent HZSM-5. 展开更多

Results show that 1% phosphorus and steam modified HZSM-5 has the highest catalytic activity for n-heptane. Physicochemical and catalytic properties of 1% phosphorus and steam modified HZSM-5 zeolites have been investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results exhibit that there is considerable variation in the relative intensity of the individual diffraction peaks. The acidity of the samples decreases with an increase in the steaming temperature, which is determined by the IR of adsorbed pyridine and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) of ammonia. The oxidation state of phosphorus shown by XPS is +5, and a model for surface structure modification is proposed. The nitrogen adsorption isotherm for all samples is a combination of type I and type IV, all hysteresis loops resemble the H4-type. The density functional and cluster model methods have been invoked to select the phosphorus grafting model, and it was found that the phosphorus grafting model were more probable in the form of the terminal oxygen coordinating with aluminum. 展开更多

Sample Particleboards were made from wood chip of Birch (Platyphylla). The component changes of steam treated wood chip were analysed by infrared. Infrared spectra demonstrated that the hemicelluloses in steam treated chip were less than those in untreated chip. This is one of the main reasons why steam treatment could improve particlcboard stability. The free radical concentration of steam treated chip surfaces was analysed by ESR spcctroscopy. The results showed that free radical concentration of treated chip surface was higher than that of untreated chip surface. The glueyncss of chip increased and particlcboard resin content decreased. 展开更多

XRD ... For investigating the effect of dealumination on the pore structure and catalytic performance, ZSM-5/Y composite zeolites synthesized in situ from NaY gel were dealuminated by steaming at different temperatures. XRD (X-ray diffraction) characterization indicates that the relative crystallinity of the composite zeolites decreases with the increase in Si/Al ratio after steaming. N2 adsorption-desorption suggests that more mesopores are formed while the BET (Brunauer, Emmett and Teller) specific surface area and the micropore specific surface area decrease as the temperature of steaming rises. Daqing heavy oil was used as feedstock to test the catalytic cracking activity of ZSM-5/Y composite zeolites. The experimental results of the catalytic cracking performance reveal that the distribution of products differs due to the different conditions of hydrothermal treatment. Further hydrothermal treatment leads to an increase in the yield of light oil, and a decrease in the yield of gas products and coke. 展开更多

Bamboo vascular bundle fiber and parenchyma(BP)are separated by high-temperature treatment with saturated steam.Bamboo vascular bundle fiber is widely used in the market, but how to develop and utilize parenchyma tissue is a difficult problem. The sulfated cellulose nanofibers(ANFs)were obtained by sulfating BP with a deep eutectic solvent(DES),which provided a theoretical basis for the value-added utilization of BP.Using DES as the reaction medium and reagent, the BP was grafted with a sulfonic acid group to form a gel substance in water,ANFs and nanocellulose gel were obtained by ultrasonic cell crusher. The highest yield of ANFS was 75%.The width of the ANFs was about 3 nm,and a small number of nanofiber aggregates existed at the same time.A high aspect ratio of ANFs,due to their high viscosity, has potential applications as enhancers at low concen-trations.Lewis acid(ZnCl 2)added based on binary(DES)greatly improved the thermal stability of the ANFs and maintained the crystal form of cellulose I. 展开更多

In the transformation of methanol to gasoline (MTG), the selectivity to gasoline and the aromatic content in the produced gasoline are important factors. The catalytic activities of steam-treated and non-steam-treated nano-scale H-ZSM-5 (NHZ5) catalysts impregnated with Ag(I), Zn(II) or P(V) have been investigated in a continuous flow fixed bed reactor. The NH3-TPD results showed that after impregnation, the Ag/NHZ5, Zn/NHZ5 and P/NHZ5 catalysts contained comparatively more strong, medium-strong and weak acid sites, respectively. Treatment with steam decreased the number of acid sites in all the catalysts, but the pore volumes in the catalysts were larger which improved carbon deposition resistance resulting in prolonged lifetimes. After 6 h of MTG reaction, the selectivity to gasoline for the steam-treated catalysts, Agrho/NHZ5, ZnH2o/NHZ5 and PH2o/NHZ5 were 70.5, 68.4 and 68.7 wt-%, respectively, whereas their respective aromatic contents in the produced gasoline were 61.9, 55.4 and 39.0 wt-%. Thus Pn2o/NHZ5 is the most promising catalyst for MTG applications which can meet the China IV gasoline standard that the amount of aromatics in gasoline should be less than 48 wt-%. 展开更多
