Corrosion behaviors of steel in different solutions were studied by means of corrosion potential (Ecorr), linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP). A field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) was used for observing the microstructures and morphology of corrosion products of steel. The results indicate that, compared with the commonly used nitrite-based inhibitors, Na3PO4 is not a good inhibitor, while BTA may be a potentially effective inhibitor to prevent steel from corrosion in simulated concrete pore solutions.展开更多

The experimental results indicate that DMEA is not a good inhibitor but the composite of DMEA with caprylic acid exhibits excellent inhibiting efficiency. The synergic mechanism of the organic corrosion inhibitors(OCIs) was studied with quantum chemical calculations. It is found that the DMEA forms a quaternary ammonium salt with the proton in carboxylic acid, and a cyclic complex formed between the salt and Fe may be responsible for the enhancement of inhibiting efficiency. The possible hydrogen bond formed between DMEA and carboxylic acid is not enough for the inhibiting effect. This work is helpful to proposing theoretical interpretation as well as developing a functional organic inhibitor to improve the durability of reinforced concrete contaminated with chloride.展开更多

It was observed that during secondary recrystallization of the tested steel, the key inhibition effect was produced by Cu2S and AlN, but not MnS. With the increase of temperature, the size distributions of AlN and Cu2S were changed to some extent. However, signifi-cant changes in particle size were not observed. The initial temperature of abnormal growth was determined by measuring the evolution of particle sizes and their distribution density during heat treatment. AlN and Cu2S are the dominant inhibitors and both are necessary, which is verified by calculating the Zener factor.展开更多

The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of mild steel was studied in the range of 308 to 328 K. The inhibition efficiency was observed to increase with increasing concentration of the extract. Polarization curves revealed that the Kleinia grandiflora leaf extract is a mixed inhibitor. Impedance diagrams revealed that an increase of Kleinia grandiflora leaf extract concentration increased the charge transfer resistance and decreased the double-layer capacitance. The adsorption process obeys Langmuir's model, with a standard free energy of adsorption(ΔGads) of-18.62 k J/mol. The obtained results indicate that the Kleinia grandiflora leaf extract can serve as an effective inhibitor for the corrosion of mild steel in a sulfuric acid medium.展开更多

The influences of immersion time, temperature, and chitosan concentration on the corrosion inhibition performance of chitosan were investigated. The optimum parameters of water-soluble chitosan on the corrosion inhibition performance of 2205 duplex stainless steel were also determined. The water-soluble chitosan showed excellent corrosion inhibition performance on the 2205 duplex stainless steel. Polarization curves demonstrated that chitosan acted as a mixed-type inhibitor. When the stainless steel specimen was immersed in the 0.2 g/L chitosan solution for 4 h, a dense and uniform adsorption film covered the sample surface and the inhibition efficiency(IE) reached its maximum value. Moreover, temperature was found to strongly influence the corrosion inhibition of chitosan; the inhibition efficiency gradually decreased with increasing temperature. The 2205 duplex stainless steel specimen immersed in 0.4 g/L water-soluble chitosan at 30°C displayed the best corrosion inhibition among the investigated specimens. Moreover, chitosan decreased the corrosion rate of the 2205 duplex stainless steel in an FeCl_3 solution.展开更多

In 55 %LiBr+PMA/SbBr3 solution, corrosion rates of carbon steel at 145 ℃, 175℃, 190℃ and 240℃ are 18.32μm·a^-1 , 27.68μm·a^-1, 53.58μm·a^-1 and 73. 78μm·a^-1 , respectively. PMA/SbBr3 inhibitor may inhibit the corrosion of carbon steel in 55% LiBr solution effectively. Especially, it shows an excellent corrosion inhibition performance at high temperature. Both anodic and cathodic reactions of carbon steel may be inhibited by PMA/SbBr3 inhibitor, so it may be classified as mixed inhibitor. In 55%LiBr+PMA/SbBr3 solution, the apparent activation energy of the corrosion reaction of carbon steel is 29. 61 kJ·mol^-1. The corrosion inhibition mechanism of PMA/SbBr3 is suggested as follows: PMA has the effect of inhibiting hydrogen evolution and a strong oxidizing property; Sb^3+ also exhibits oxidizing properties, and can exist stably with PMA in LiBr solutions; the passive film comprising Fe2O3 and antimony formed on carbon steel surface may prevent Brfrom diffusing into the metal surface due to the synergistic effect of PMA and Sb^3+ ; As a result, the anticorrosion performance of carbon steel may be improved by PMA/SbBr3 inhibitor in 55% LiBr solution.展开更多

The results show that RTZ acts as an effective inhibitor for the corrosion of CRS in 7.0 mol·L^(-1) H_2SO_4, and the maximum inhibition efficiency is higher than 95% with a RTZ concentration of 2.0 mmol·L^(-1). The adsorption of RTZ on CRS surface follows Langmuir isotherm. RTZ effectively retards both cathodic and anodic reactions, and acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. EIS exhibits two capacitive loops, and their resistances increase drastically in the presence of RTZ. SEM and AFM confirm that the addition of RTZ could significantly retard the corrosion of CRS surface. A series of characterizations like FTIR, RS, XRD and XPS reveal that the corrosion CRS surface is composed of the corrosion products of iron sulfates, iron oxides and iron hydroxide, as well as inhibitor. Theoretical results of quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamics(MD) indicate that the adsorption center of RTZ+(organic cationic part of RTZ) mainly relies on its tetrazole ring, and the adsorption of RTZ+on Fe(001) surface is in a nearly flat orientation mode.展开更多

The performance of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid inhibitor (HEDP) was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and weight loss measurements in a dissolution of AISI 304 stainless steel immersed in a solution containing chloride and sulfide ions. The protection of the stainless was increased with the addition of divalent cations (Ca2+, Zn2+, and Mg2+). Potentiodynamic polarization studies have shown that the inhibitor alone has anodic protection, but the addition of Ca2+ (10 mg<span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;">·</span>L-1) favors the cathodic protection, and the addition of Zn2+ (20 mg<span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;">·</span>L-1) and Mg2+ (10 mg<span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;">·</span>L-1) mixed-type is observed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was performed at three distinct potentials: -0.3 [V <i>vs.</i> SCE], <i>E</i>corr [V <i>vs.</i> SCE], and 0.1 [V <i>vs.</i> SCE]. This revealed that calcium is responsible for favoring the formation of the film and the other elements (zinc and magnesium) favor the stabilization of the protective film. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed that the addition of cations provided the adsorption of HEDP on the metal surface. Weight loss results showed that the presence of zinc in a solution containing HEDP favored greater inhibitor efficiency (Zn2+ <i>η</i>m = 85.2% and for Mg2+ <i>η</i>m = 70.4%).展开更多

The effect of addition of citrate to the binary system, BPMG-Zn2+, is quite significant and is well explored through various studies. The surface protective nature is maintained in the pH range 5 - 9. Potentiodynamic polarization studies inferred that the ternary inhibitor is a mixed inhibitor. Impedance studies of the metal/solution interface indicated that the surface film is highly protective against the corrosion of carbon steel in the chosen environment. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis of the surface film showed the presence of the elements namely iron, phosphorus, nitrogen, carbon, oxygen and zinc. Deconvolution spectra of these elements in the surface film inferred the presence of oxides/hydroxides of iron(III), Zn(OH)2 and [Fe(III), Zn(II)-BPMG-citrate] heteropolynuclear multiligand complex. This inference is further supported by the reflection absorption Fourier transform infrared spectrum of the surface film. Analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is presented for both the corroded and protected metal surfaces. Based on all these results, a plausible mechanism of corrosion inhibition is proposed.展开更多

Three types of corrosion inhibitors, calcium nitrite (Ca(NO2)2), zinc oxide (ZnO), and N,N'-dimethylaminoethanol (DMEA), which respectively represented the anodic inhibitor, cathodic inhibitor, and mixed inhibitor, were chosen. The experiment was carried out in a saturated calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) solution to simulate the electrolytic environment of concrete. The inhibitors were initially mixed at different levels, and then chloride ions were gradually added into the solution in several steps. The open-circuit potential (Ecorr) and corrosion current density (lcorr) determined by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) were used to identify the initiation of active corrosion, thereby determining the chloride threshold value. It was found that although all the inhibitors were effective in decreasing the corrosion rate of steel reinforcement, they had a marginal effect on increasing the chloride threshold value.展开更多

Regarding to GON and GOS by reaction GO with 2-amino ethanol and 2-marcapto ethanol respectively, the GO, GON, GOS were characterized by FTIR, XRD and FSEM. Evaluation prepared compound to inhibitors corrosion for Carbon steel in acidic media at (1 - 6 ppm) concentration and different temperature 298, 308, 318, 328 K. The electrochemical technique used Tafel plot to measure the efficiency of inhibitor. It was observed that the corrosion rate and charge transfer of the carbon steel for the inhibitor increase with increase of temperature and decrease with increase of the inhibitor concentration in the same temperature. The GON had inhibition efficiency reached 96.96% for the 6 ppm concentration at 298 K.

文摘This investigation was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors in increasing the chloride threshold value for steel corrosion. It was found that although all the inhibitors were effective in decreasing the corrosion rate of steel reinforcement, they had a marginal effect on increasing the chloride threshold value.
文摘Corrsion inhibition of Aloe lateritia gel for Mild steel in 2 M HNO3 and 1 M H2SO4 solutions was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Foutier transform infrared (FT-IR). Inhibition efficiency increased with the increase of the concentration of the gel. The optimal concentration of the gel gives maximum inhibition efficiency of 77.4% and 70.3% in 1 M H2SO4 and 2 M HNO3 respectively. Polarization plots shows that, the gel works as a mixed type inhibitor altering both cathodic and anodic reaction. SEM proves the uniform and pitting corrosion at the surface of Mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 and 2 M HNO3 respectively. Using FT-IR potential function groups from pure gel and some stretch shift was observed from corrosion product and some stretch shift from corrosion products was observed.
文摘The effect of Co complexes with a Schiff base ligand on the electrochemical corrosion behavior of 316 L SS in 0.1 M H2SO4 at 25℃ has been investigated at various inhibitor concentration using electrochemical techniques (impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization curves). Corrosion measurements indicate that Co complex act as moderately inhibitors. Results revealed that increasing the concentration of Co complex increases the corresponding IE% values till 100 ppm. Co complex acts as mixed type inhibitors with predominant effect on the anodic dissolution of iron. Adsorption studies showed that the process follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
文摘An overview of a severe kind of environmentally-assisted cracking-stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of pressure vessel steel (PVS),such as stainless steel 304, alloy 600,690 and other nickel-based alloys in subcritical (~300 ℃) aqueous environment was given. The mechanisms of SCC of metals under this inclement surrounding were briefly generalized. Herein, some pragmatic solutions to mitigate the SCC susceptibility and retard its propagation were presented. The titanium and cerium-based inhibitors addition countermeasure was highlighted.
