The tool of choice is the transfer matrix method, which is both versatile and easy to implement. In both cases, we find that the stop-bands widen. The explicit dispersion relations are derived for the two cases when the propagation directions of SH waves are normal to the interface and parallel to the interface, respectively. The asymptotic expressions for dispersion relations are also given when the wave number is extremely small. Numerical results for stop band effect and phase velocity are presented for a periodic system of alternating BaTiO3 and Terfenol-D layers. The influence of volume fraction on stop band effect and dispersion behaviors is discussed and revealed.展开更多

From the analysis, we deduce the operating frequency region of the single-mode propagation. Based on this property, a spoof SPPs lowpass filter is then constituted in the microwave frequency. By introducing a transmission zero at the lower frequency band using a pair of stepped-impedance stubs, a wide passband filter is further realized. The proposed filter is fed by.a transducer composed of a microstrip line with a flaring ground. The simulated results show that the presented filter has an extremely wide upper stopband in addition to excellent passband filtering characteristics such as low loss, wide band, and high square ratio. A prototype passband filter is also fabricated to validate the predicted performances. The proposed spoof-SPPs filter is believed to be very promising for other surface waveguide components in microwave and terahertz bands.展开更多

By using the super cell method based on the plane-wave expansion method (PWE), we study the three configurations formed by water objects (either a sphere of different sizes or a cube) located at the vertices of simple cubic (SC) lattice and surrounded by mercury background. The numerical results show that ABGs larger than the original SC structure for all the three configurations can be obtained by adjusting the length-diameter ratio of adjacent objects but keeping the filling fraction (f = 0.25) of the unit cell unchanged. We also compare our results with that of 3D solid composites and find that the ABGs in liquid composites are insensitive to the shapes as that in the solid composites. We further prove that the decrease of the translation group symmetry is more efficient in creating the ABGs in 3D water-mercury systems.展开更多

As a result, wave can propagate along the periodic structures only within specific frequency bands called the pass bands and wave propagation is completely blocked within other frequency bands called the “stop bands”. A theoretical method based on the transfer matrix formulation is developed in order to effectively investigate the influence of periodicity, variable geometry and material properties on the wave propagation characteristics of one-dimensional periodic rod. Several numerical examples are presented in order to illustrate their unique tunable filtering and localization characteristics. The experiments are conducted to verify the numerical predictions and to demonstrate the capability of the wavelet transform as a very powerful tool to uniquely identify and compare the energy distribution both in the time and frequency domain. The flexibility that the spectral width and location of the pass and stop bands can be tuned by introducing intentional variation in geometric and material properties for the individual substructure or cell is identified completely by both numerical predictions and experimental results. The results demonstrate the potential of such one-dimensional periodic structure in controlling the dynamics of wave propagation as a mechanical filter such as engine mount, gearbox support strut and other applications.展开更多

Quinacrine dihydrochloride molecules doped highly ordered SiO2 inverse opal is successfully synthesized by co-assembly combined with double-substrate vertical infiltrate method. The quinacrine dihydrochloride-doped and-undoped SiO2 inverse opals each exhibit an apparent photonic band gap (PBG) in the visible light region. Significant suppression of the emission is observed when the PBG is overlapped with the quinacrine dihydrochloride emission bands. The mechanism of suppression effect of PBG in inverse opal on the fluorescence intensity of quinacrine dihydrochloride molecules is studied.展开更多

The technique uses signal flow graph and converts the existing LC ladder based filter into band pass & band stop configurations. The design of band pass and band stop filter has been realized using the proposed technique. The proposed configuration is implemented using CFOA as an active device and all the capacitors are grounded. CFOA based circuits have greater linearity, high dynamic rate, high slew rate and high signal bandwidth. Simulation has been carried out using simulation software P Spice (v10.1). The simulation results have been demonstrated and discussed.展开更多

It is impossible to measure the stop band characteristics of the HOM coupler with the cavity. A measurement device for the coaxial transmission line type for the HOM coupler has been designed at Peking University. Experimentally it was shown that the average voltage standing wave ratio of the coaxial transmission line is smaller than 1.08. The experimental results of the stop band characteristics of the TTF-type HOM coupler have been fitted for the simulation. This paper describes the design of the measurement device and discusses the experimental and simulation results of stop band characteristics of the HOM coupler.展开更多
