Attracting theater practitioners and audiences are the main targets. Successful narrator communication is one of the biggest challenges even when theatres facilitate communication with scenery, lighting and costumes etc., as the performance depends primarily on the text and narrator for successful expression. This study views the most important techniques to create a well-made story at both text and performance levels. The researcher begins differentiating storytelling, imitation and characterization, as this understanding assists the objective of this study, which is to determine specific techniques to achieve successful communication with an audience. This research highlights elements which distort story structure; including immersion in narrative without incident description, identified as the most dangerous element due to description being essential to create suspense.1 Text condensation is also crucial. A good writer uses his pen more for deletion than addition. Repeated reading and deletion to condense the story to its optimal is vital. Also included are techniques for good text rhythm in addition to production of captivating beginnings. Further techniques to raise audience attention in text and event building, as well as to determine conflict and types, narrator language use and the structure of the diagnostic viewer, finally, mastering story ending techniques are provided. At performance level, this research provides techniques in creativity prologue, good story rhythm, body language and eye contact together with prop (object) use; all of which enable the narrator to capture and retain audience attention throughout. This research concludes with recommendations on how to achieve a good storytelling performance.展开更多

Language and literacy teachers of primary education are called upon daily to bridge these contradictions through pedagogical and textual choices they make in classroom teaching. This paper reports an experimental study with children of the fifth grade at public Greek schools to apply modernist literacy approaches involving digital storytelling and online communication in improving language skills. The paper analytically presents the didactic examples of a thematic union within the framework of the Greek curriculum and the alternative assessment for the experimental teaching on digital technologies among mother tongue learners. The findings have implications for teacher's and student's education and also for the integration of a pedagogical-technological content of curriculum within the continuing debate of being culturally and equally literate in today's education.展开更多

The Yangzhou pinghua repertoire of Pi Wu lazi 皮五辣子(Rogue Pi Wu) initially created in Yangzhou around the Qianlong 乾隆(1735-1796) era has been passed down to the present times and performed by Yang Mingkun 楊明坤(1949-). In this paper, the author will examine some historical aspects of Yangzhou city that is reflected in the narrative of Rogue Pi Wu recited by Yang Mingkun and the basics of the repertoire of Rogue Pi Wu by referring to the historical documents related to Yangzhou pinghua and the modern studies on the history of Yangzhou city, aiming to point out that Yang’s repertoire of Rogue Pi Wu is of great research value to the study on Yangzhou storytelling. In addition, the origins and values of this thesis and the methodology adopted in conducting the present research are introduced.展开更多

This evidence includes different designs, as a result an integrative review is needed that can determine the impact and value of storytelling interventions for people with cancer. Aims: To undertake an integrative review of evidence identifying the impact and outcomes from storytelling interventions for people with cancer. Methods: An integrative review of group based storytelling interventions using a qualitative led-synthesis. Results: Eleven studies were identified with a total of 493 (49 female, 16 male, 428 not disclosed) people included. Two major themes were identified: 1) content of interaction and 2) outcomes from the interventions. Six sub-themes were identified. The results provided a unique insight into the psycho-emotional impact of storytelling interventions. Conclusions: It is essential that health care professionals understand the core benefits of storytelling for people with cancer. Further interventions are needed to identify an approach which could be applied within clinical settings.展开更多

More specifically, she concentrates on the presence of an inspired woman folk storyteller who, also a patient visited in the same period the hospital for personal treatment. Having the ability to tell a story skillfully, the specific storyteller ultimately tried with her narrations to ease the pain, both physical and spiritual, of patients that suffered from heavy or light forms of cancer, regardless of the fact that she herself was facing similar health problems. This essay sheds light on the persistence and function of tradition in our days and examines how illness and misfortune are ascribed and how the storyteller and listeners are connected. Her purpose is to find out what and how people learn and teach each other under special circumstances. This question has not been absent from the work of folklorists. The fieldwork was based on qualitative research, and the ethnographic method and collecting were used.展开更多

The remarkable revolutions in interactivity and multimedia materials together with countless emerging technologies have also enabled the conception of digital storytelling. However, it has not been widely used in many developing countries such as Vietnam. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to conduct an investigation into the history of digital storytelling, the necessary facilities and how it is being used educationally in the classroom so that teachers in developing countries can widely apply digital storytelling in teaching. This paper also raises students' awareness towards using technology in their study, which will make an important breakthrough in teaching and learning English in Vietnam.展开更多

As a creative sharing form of multimedia, the digital storytelling is being concerned by more and more educators because of its discipline applicability and media technology enhancing ability. In this study, the information visualization software, i.e. CiteSpace was applied to visualize and analyze the researches on digital storytelling from the aspects of key articles and citation hotspots, and make a review on the research status of the digital storytelling in the education fields, such as promoting language learning, and helping students develop the 21 st century skills.展开更多

In 2018, Mocnik and Fairbairn argued that maps are good for representing a geographic space but texts have a better benefit than maps for telling a story [1]. A framework is presented on how a landscape change can be retrieved out of textual descriptions. A prototype of a 3D model with a projection on top of it was developed. The case study tells the story of the landscape change in the city of Pristina. The key element of the visualization is a timeline. Several media like cadastral maps, orthophotos, texts, graphics, and background sound are used and combined in an animated light show and the visualization was evaluated within a user study.展开更多

The integration of digital storytelling into lan-guage classroom is reported to attain great effectiveness to develop learners'language proficiency as well as multiple skills. While international educators think highly of the new teaching method, research on this field in China still remains few at present. There-fore, this paper discusses how digital storytelling can be used to enhance language teaching and moreover proposes an action plan to apply it into EFL classroom in China at the secondary level.展开更多

In addition to audiovisual mediation, this study demonstrates the idea that museum architecture itself can also be re,larded as a medium of spatial storytelling, specifically of historical time, which is manifested spatially and cognitively for museum visitors. The Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum (YVHHM) in Jerusalem is considered a spatial storytelling tool that successfully establishes an architectural dimension and thus displays, reveals, and interprets historical time during the Holocaust. The research method of this study is drawn from a case study of YVHHM and consists of a Literature review of schotarship in museum studies about artifacts and exhibition techniques of storytelling. The study concludes that the architectural space and landscape of YVHHM create a primary example of Jewish space and its specific engaeements with historical time by use of spatial layout and circulation, spatial form and symbolization, and spatial qualities of lighting and material. These components construct a tangjble, sacred, and cultural artifact; such artifact inherits, preserves, and records Yad Vashem, Modern Jerusalem, and the Nation of Israel and is an ideal physical and spiritual "home" for Jewish people worldwide.展开更多
