Meta-cognitive Strategy Training and the Development of Learners＇ Autonomy in Language Learning

As the ultimate goal of education, autonomy in language learning has aroused a lot of attention from scholars at home and abroad. While in universities of China, students do not have strong autonomy in English language learning. The author tries to adopt specific meta-cognitive strategies to facilitate students＇ autonomy in learning by improving learners＇ capacities in study planning or management, monitoring and evaluating in learning to raise their consciousness and ability in autonomy, and lay a foundation for life-long learning.

A framework of the suggested Meta-cognitive Strategy Training model

It is of great significance to carry out Meta-cognitive Strategy Training （MST） in current college English teaching context. After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of some sequences and models for strategy training, the authors suggest the Meta-cognitive Strategy Training model which consists of 6 steps with Strategies-Based Instruction （SBI） employed to conduct the concrete strategy training.

The Effects of Web-Based Listening Strategy Training on Thai High School EFL Students＇ Listening Comprehension

This study investigated the effects of a CLSTS （Computer-Assisted Listening Strategy Training Software） program on the development of students＇ ability to use four target listening strategies to enhance their listening comprehension. This study covered an experimental group and a control group. The participants were Grade 10 Thai EFL （English as a Foreign Language） students in a Thai high school in Bangkok, Thailand. Experimental group performance was compared to that of a control group on the five research instruments. Regarding the effect of the CLSTS on the students＇ ability to use the target listening strategies to enhance their listening comprehension, it was found that the CLSTS was significantly effective. The results that made CLSTS effective were categorized into six main aspects.

An Empirical Study on the Effectiveness of Language Learning Strategy Training for Chinese Adult English Learners

This paper explores how to implement effective strategy training for part-time Chinese adult English learners in a tertiary FLT （Foreign Language Teaching） classroom. Through a study of threx~ semesters during which six sessions of learner training workshops and constant, integrated task-based instruction were carried out, empirical evidence was collected via the instrument of questionnaires, interviews, learners＇ regular written reports, and the findings indicate that： （1） The students reported a statistically significant increase of the overaU average frequency of language strategy use over all SILL （The Strategy Inventory for Language Learning） items with 2.95 at the beginning and 3.61 at the end; and （2） Well-organized, explicit, and discrete leaner training workshops combined with frequent, explicit, and integrated task-based strategy instruction are an effective and helpful way to improve learners＇ awareness, selection, and frequency of strategy use, which can further foster learner autonomy.

Improving non-English majors' listening comprehension through strategy training

Listening is an important part in the second language learning process,so how to improve students’ listening comprehension especially for non-English majors becomes a main concern to teachers.For this purpose,a targeted listening strategy training was conducted in listening classes.Test results manifest that sixty participants get more or less improvement in their listening comprehension after receiving a strategy training every two hours over ten weeks.Low and middle achievers make relatively more progress than high-achievers.Interviews also indicate that high achievers use top-down strategies more than low achievers in listening process,while low achievers employ more bottom-up strategies than high achievers.This indicates that effective strategy training in listening class could enhance students’ listening performance.It is hoped that this study could give some insights to the future listening teaching.

Learning Strategy Training in Foreign Language Teaching

A great many recent studies have shown that making good use of learning strategies can contribute much to students' foreign language learning. This paper deals with some important issues about strategy training based on O'Malley and Chamot's theory, including the concept, value and goals of strategy training and approaches to such training.

MONITORING OF METACOGNITIVE STRATEGY TRAINING

The goal of education is to cultivate learner autonomy. Studies in metacognition suggest that the ideal way to accomplish this is through metacognitive strategy training. Research also indicates that effective training programs depend on monitoring. To cultivate self-regulation or learner autonomy, it is necessary to exert external monitoring at the beginning, and gradually reduce external supervision as the students become more autonomous. The present study argues for cooperative group learning and regular evaluation as the main monitoring strategies. A semester long study indicates that cooperative group learning, besides being valuable in cultivating social relationship, and fostering cooperation and learner autonomy, can also serve as a good monitoring strategy in metacognitive strategy training. Regular evaluation, when it is progress- oriented and learner-centered, and conducted at proper times, will also provide valuable information for students to check, evaluate and adjust their learning. Self-questioning sheets and learner portfolios are also useful techniques in monitoring students' learning.

The Docking of Talent Training Strategies and Job Market in Higher Vocational Colleges Under the Background of Slow and Difficult Employment

Students in higher vocational colleges are faced with difficult problems such as slow employment,which highlights the dislocation between education and the market.This study surveyed thousands of students and hundreds of enterprises,and put forward docking strategies.The analysis shows that the mismatch between skills adaptation and literacy is the main cause of slow employment.To this end,research and design training programs,including curriculum restructuring,school-enterprise cooperation practice platforms,and employment-oriented quality improvement plans are imperative.At the same time,we will develop teaching modules for career planning to enhance competitiveness and ensure that the content is synchronized with industry standards.After the implementation,the employment rate of students increased by 15%within six months,the degree of interconnection increased by 20%,and the degree of enterprise recognition increased by 25%.The research effectively promotes the docking of higher vocational education with the market,and has far-reaching significance for easing slow employment.

LEARNING STRATEGY TRAINING——A CRUTCH FOR LANGUAGE LEARNERS

Successful FL learners are characterized by knowing how to use language learning strategies effectively. This pilot study demonstrates the procedure to cultivate the effectiveness of the strategy training to the learners of low language proficiency. It begins with a questionnaire surveying the learners' use of strategy in language acquisition, and then a strategy training integrated with the class teaching and learners' learning diary are introduced. The analysis proves that strategy training to learners of low proficiency can become a crutch for their further study.The role of teachers in the process of the training is also discussed. The author proposes that teachers should be ready for the shift of the role to be an organizer, facilitator, councilor or cooperator, even a negotiator in the road of promoting autonomous learners.

LEARNING STRATEGY TRAINING AND LISTENING PROFICIENCY:AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF NON-ENGLISH MAJOR UNDERGRADUATES

笔者就语言学习策略培训对学生听力理解的影响进行了实证研究,旨在探求学习策略培训的有效性。研究随机选取大学二年级两个实验班的同学作为研究对象,运用Oxford(1996)学习策略问卷和大学英语四级考试听力部分试题作为研究工具,对经历了15周策略培训的实验班和对照班进行了测试和评估。研究结果表明:学习策略培训对学生听力理解有促进作用,可使学生听力成绩明显提高。文末提出了研究的启示,即教师应充分认识策略培训的重要性,把策略教学融入正常的听力教学中,鼓励学生在听力理解过程中运用学习策略,从而帮助其成为更有效的听力学习者。

Learning strategies training in classroom teaching

Training Strategies for Applied German-speaking Talents in the"One Belt One Road"Initiative

Study on reading strategies in college English teaching： Top-down or bottom-up？

Reading comprehension ability is one of the key abilities trained in College English teaching in China. This paper first examines the theories behind top-down and bottom-up reading strategies, and then suggests top-down reading strategies are more effective than the bottom-up ones in training EFL learners to be efficient readers in English. In particular, taking into account the English proficiency and the cognitive ability of the Chinese university students （non-English major）, the author argues that more priorities should be given to the top-down reading strategies training in EFL reading class.

The Role of Lexis in Developing EFL Learners＇ Speaking Skill

EFL （English as a Foreign Language） speaking is a very demanding skill that requires learners＇ socio-pragmatic as well as strategic competence in any interactional situation, and lexis proves to play a crucial role in this process. However, few studies have investigated how both EFL teachers and learners view and analyze situations in which learners are not producing enough spoken language in class, and the reasons behind them. The present study will pinpoint the significant role of lexis in Moroccan learners＇ speaking production. To this end, 40 EFL teachers and 200 Moroccan high school students are surveyed and interviewed to reveal their perceptions of the speaking skill and the corresponding high significance of lexis in this instance. Results show that both teachers and learners identify vocabulary deficiency as the main factor behind students＇ inability to speak English. In the present paper, among the many suggestions that could be proposed to deal with this situation, it is argued that one efficient way would be to assist the students during the process of L2 （second language） vocabulary learning through vocabulary learning strategy instruction. Pedagogical and research implication will be given in response to the difficulties encountered in this area as have been identified by the EFL teachers and learners surveyed.

Algorithm of Helmet Wearing Detection Based on AT-YOLO Deep Mode

The existing safety helmet detection methods are mainly based on one-stage object detection algorithms with high detection speed to reach the real-time detection requirements,but they can’t accurately detect small objects and objects with obstructions.Therefore,we propose a helmet detection algorithm based on the attention mechanism(AT-YOLO).First of all,a channel attention module is added to the YOLOv3 backbone network,which can adaptively calibrate the channel features of the direction to improve the feature utilization,and a spatial attention module is added to the neck of the YOLOv3 network to capture the correlation between any positions in the feature map so that to increase the receptive field of the network.Secondly,we use DIoU(Distance Intersection over Union)bounding box regression loss function,it not only improving the measurement of bounding box regression loss but also increases the normalized distance loss between the prediction boxes and the target boxes,which makes the network more accurate in detecting small objects and faster in convergence.Finally,we explore the training strategy of the network model,which improves network performance without increasing the inference cost.Experiments show that the mAP of the proposed method reaches 96.5%,and the detection speed can reach 27 fps.Compared with other existing methods,it has better performance in detection accuracy and speed.

Seismic velocity inversion based on CNN-LSTM fusion deep neural network

Based on the CNN-LSTM fusion deep neural network,this paper proposes a seismic velocity model building method that can simultaneously estimate the root mean square(RMS)velocity and interval velocity from the common-midpoint(CMP)gather.In the proposed method,a convolutional neural network(CNN)Encoder and two long short-term memory networks(LSTMs)are used to extract spatial and temporal features from seismic signals,respectively,and a CNN Decoder is used to recover RMS velocity and interval velocity of underground media from various feature vectors.To address the problems of unstable gradients and easily fall into a local minimum in the deep neural network training process,we propose to use Kaiming normal initialization with zero negative slopes of rectifi ed units and to adjust the network learning process by optimizing the mean square error(MSE)loss function with the introduction of a freezing factor.The experiments on testing dataset show that CNN-LSTM fusion deep neural network can predict RMS velocity as well as interval velocity more accurately,and its inversion accuracy is superior to that of single neural network models.The predictions on the complex structures and Marmousi model are consistent with the true velocity variation trends,and the predictions on fi eld data can eff ectively correct the phase axis,improve the lateral continuity of phase axis and quality of stack section,indicating the eff ectiveness and decent generalization capability of the proposed method.
